• Is there any framework for rich web clients on top of html/css?

  Some RAD tools like openobject use rich web clients. I.e. their client side code reside inside the browser and they talk to the server via xml-rpc or json-rpc only and change the view accordingly, all the javascript and css are transferred only once. Such rich web clients would increase the productivity in enterprise class web application that have lots of processes and forms etc. I would like to use such a rich web client inside my own application. I tried to search but found only openerp-web, which is tightly integrated to its server. Is there any other rich web client framework available? if not, is there any design detail I can look into to create my own? Thanks. Edit: Browser is a client which uses http and similar protocols to talks to web server which serve pages that the client displays. Rich web client is a client which sits on top of Browser which talks to the server, send data, receive data and information about How to update the view etc and do it. Similar to Vaadin, such rich web client will eliminate any code requirement on client side and and all the coding will be done on server side. Belows are such thin clients. pjax ( jquery ) vaadin ( java ) openobject web client ( python ) nagare ( python ) seaside ( smalltalk ) p4a ( php ) this are all such clients that once properly setup will allow to code on only on sever and still provide great ajax like experience.

• jquery GET and POST confusion

  Hi, I am not quiet sure how jquery works. I want to know few things about the GET and POST in terms of jQuery. I am using a button to call the example_ajax_request to process the request and get the results. Sometimes I see code like this: $.ajax({ url: 'loader.php', data: 'somedata', method: 'GET', success: function(data){ $('#er').text(data); } }); My doubt is, is it required or not that we use a method to post the data? (either GET or POST) while send and getting the data in PHP webapps? The code that I use first works fine even though I do not use any POST or GET methods. Any inputs? Thanks.

• Selenium RC throws sessionsid should not be null exception, phpunit 3.4 bug only?

  I am looking to migrate my selenium RC tests to using PHPUnit 3.4.12 from PHPUnit 3.3.2 The selenium test will fail with an exception of the following when I use assertTextPresent() PHPUnit_Framework_Exception: Response from Selenium RC server for getLocation(). ERROR Server Exception: sessionId should not be null; has this session been started yet?. I have tried the same test with PHPUnit 3.3.2 which did not produce this problem - the test would happily end without the getLocation(). Any ideas? thanks

• cocoa - making a class like UIButton

  For some reason that will take too much time to explain, I have to create a UIImageView based class that has some properties of a button. Imagine a class like the UISwitch (no I cannot base my class on the UISwitch) with two states, on and off. WHen the user selects one state, it runs a method like a button that was clicked and the method receives the sender id. I have already the class more or less working. The class is based on UIImageView. I am having difficulties to understand the following. WHen I create a new button I have a line that is like [myButton addTarget:self action:NSSelectorFromString(myMethod) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; This line defines a target and an action to run when the button is triggered. I my case I would need something like [myObject addTarget:self action:myMethod ifState:1] //or another thing ifState:2 I have no idea what kind of code I should put on the class to make this work. Remember that as a button the class should send the "sender" information to identify the object which triggered the action... Can you guys, transcendental gurus help? thanks.

• Strage character encoding problem with Eclipse / Spring / Tomcat 6

  Hi, I have been trying things all da but can't get a proper solution. My problem is: I am developing a Spring MVC based app in my local Tomcat. My MYSQl database has UTF-8 encoding set, all content in there displays properly when using phpMyAdmin. Also the output in LOG files using log4j in catalina.out works fine. My JSP pages are configured by <!-- encoding --> <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" %> <%@ page pageEncoding="UTF-8" %> Also showing data on my JSP works fine. I can also send data from my Controller without any DB intereference using special chars, e.g. String str = "UTF-8 Test: Ä Ö Ü ß è é â"; logger.debug(str); mav.addObject("utftest", str); That displays correctly in log and on jsp page in browser. BUT: When having special chars directly in my JSP file, e.g. for text in headers, this does not work. FF and Google Chrome display strange chars but report the page to be UTF-8. When switching to Latin, the chars just get more and more strange. Same problem when showing text tokens from my messages.properties file, although Eclipse says when right-clicking that UTF-8 will be used. I am a little it lost and don't know where to check now. Summary: DB storage is fine DB output on JSP is fine Output on JSP directly form controller is fine even reading in form forms is fine .properties files and JSP text is not fine !!! Any ideas? I really appreciate and tips.

• What is the best way to process XML sent to WCF 3.5

  I have to develop a WCF application in 3.5. The input will be sent in the form of XML and the response would be sent in the form of XML as well. A ASP.NET application will be consuming the WCF and sending/receiving data in XML format. Now, as per my understanding, when consuming WCF from an ASP.NET application, we just add a reference to the service, create an object of the service, pack all the necessary data(Data Members in WCF) into the input object (object of the Data Contract) and call the necessary function. It happens that the ASP.NET application is being developed by a separate party and they are hell bent on receiving and sending data in XML format. What I can perceive from this is that the WCF will take the XML string (a single Data Member string type) as input and send out a XML string (again a single Data Member string type) as output. I have created WCF applications earlier where requests and responses were sent out in XML/JSON format when it was consumed by jQuery ajax calls. In those cases, the XML tags were automatically mapped to the different Data Members defined. What approach should I take in this case? Should I just take a string as input (basically the XML string) or is there any way WCF/.NET 3.5 will automatically map the XML tags with the Data Members for requests and responses and I would not need to parse the XML string separately?

• Unable to create website error (NEW)

  I copied my ClickOnce deployment to my C:/Inetpub/ folder on my webserver and I deleted my Virtual directory. I deleted the WpfApplication1 folder beneath wwwroot in Win Explorer. Then I turned on Web Sharing for this folder. Then I viewed my IIS Manager and this new Share name appeared under wwwroot. So now under Inetpub folder on my web server I have the following directory path: C:\Inetpub\WpfApplication1\ with contents: Application Files publish.htm setup.exe WpfApplication1.application Next, I remapped both the publishing and installation URL's for the project to http://myserver/WpfApplication1/ And I clicked Publish Now. But after I performed a Publish Now operation, I got the following error on my development server (D610-M): Error 1 Failed to connect to 'http://myserver/WpfApplication1/' with the following error: Unable to create the Web site 'http://myserver/WpfApplication1/'. The Web server does not appear to have any authentication methods enabled. It asked for user authentication, but did not send a WWW-Authenticate header. 1 1 WpfApplication1 On my webserver, when I click Browse from the IIS Manager on the WpfApplication1 directory, it shows me the Install page. But after I click the Browse button, it returns an error which says: The remote name could not be resolved: 'd610-m' (D610-M is the name of my development server). How do I fix this?

Now here is where I am thinking that it might be a reverse DNS setup thing on my windows server 2008 issue + some company mails, it becomes spam, i had same issue with hotmail but that was solved when I added the plain. I'm following the VendorSpecificType00 and SimpleUserClient examples and http://wagerlabs.com/writing-a-mac-osx-usb-device-driver-that-impl as an example. I built my kernel extension and it loads fine with kextload and it shows up in kextstat. The problem is that I can't locate it in my user space code. • How to limit traffic using multicast over localhost

  I'm using multicast UDP over localhost to implement a loose collection of cooperative programs running on a single machine. The following code works well on Mac OSX, Windows and linux. The flaw is that the code will receive UDP packets outside of the localhost network as well. • How to search inbox using zend mail

  The following is a function from zend_mail_protocol_imap. i read that to search emails, I would want to override it using zend_mail_storage_imap (which is what I'm using now to grab email from gmail). I copy and pasted the following function into zend_mail_storage_imap, but I'm having issues with the params. I can't find documentation on what to use for the array $params. I initially thought it was the search term before reading it more thoroughly. I'm out of ideas. • Endless problems with a very simple python subprocess.Popen task

  I'd like python to send around a half-million integers in the range 0-255 each to an executable written in C++. This executable will then respond with a few thousand integers. Each on one line. This seems like it should be very simple to do with subprocess but i've had endless troubles. Neither has using proc.stdin and proc.stdout worked. This should be so very simple, but I'm getting constant exceptions, and/or no output data returned to me. My Popen is currently: proc = Popen('aux/test_cpp_program', stdin=PIPE, stdout=PIPE, bufsize=1) Advise me before I pull my hair out. ;)

• There is no attachment in the sent mail by iPhone

  I'm trying to send a recorded sound file as attachment with MFMailComposeViewController. The sound file is OK. The picker shows the correct file name, shows the audio file icon as attachment, sends the mail, but there is no attachment in the result. I attached below the source of the sent mail. There is a "text/plain" content type part instead of "Content-Disposition: attachment;" as expected. This is my code code to define the path and attach the audio file. • NHibernate + Remoting = ReflectionPermission Exception

  Hi all, We are dealing with a problem when using NHibernate with Remoting in a machine with full trust enviroment (actually that's our dev machine). The problem happens when whe try to send as a parameter an object previously retrieved from the server, that contains a NHibernate Proxy in one of the properties (a lazy one). As we are in the dev machine, there's no restriction in the trust level of the web app (it's set to Full) and, as a plus, we've configured NHibernate's and Castle's assemblies to full trust in CAS (even thinking that it'd not be necessary as the remoting app in IIS has the full trust level). Does anyone have any idea of what can be causing this exception? Stack trace below. • How does MSN filter spam?

  I am trying to create a newsletter for our business. The last few days have been spent testing, and one of things I have noticed is that MSN seemingly randomly filters out some of my test messages. This is super-frustrating. I like the PEAR Mail MIME-package, and have been using that. I may send one email from one of our servers, resulting in the message getting through, and in the next minute, the same message sent from our other server ends up in the junk folder. Then if I add an attachment to the email, and the same message passes though the filter from the server that was previously blocked. I think. What the ####? Is this like throwing a dice, without me having any control over what is trash, and what isn't? I have sent email from several servers, all of which are shared. But I am unsure this is the problem. The problem is that it is seemingly random how MSN filters email. Some emails get through, and some other don't for seemingly irrational reasons. I am running out of ideas, but I am not giving up. Therefore I am writing to you for HARDCORE technical info on how MSN filters spam.

• I/O between AIR client using Native process and executable java .jar

  I am using Adobe AIR 2.0 native process API to launch a java executable jar. I/O is handled by writing to the input stream of the java process and reading from the output stream. The application is event based where several events are fired from the server. • Filtering Wikipedia's XML dump: error on some accents

  I'm trying to index Wikpedia dumps. My SAX parser make Article objects for the XML with only the fields I care about, then send it to my ArticleSink, which produces Lucene Documents. I want to filter special/meta pages like those prefixed with Category: or Wikipedia:, so I made an array of those prefixes and test the title of each page against this array in my ArticleSink, using article.getTitle.startsWith(prefix). In English, everything works fine, I get a Lucene index with all the pages except for the matching prefixes. In French, the prefixes with no accent also work (i.e. filter the corresponding pages), some of the accented prefixes don't work at all (like Catégorie:), and some work most of the time but fail on some pages (like Wikipédia:) but I cannot see any difference between the corresponding lines (in less). I can't really inspect all the differences in the file because of its size (5 GB), but it looks like a correct UTF-8 XML. If I take a portion of the file using grep or head, the accents are correct (even on the incriminated pages, the <title>Catégorie:something</title> is correctly displayed by grep). On the other hand, when I rectreate a wiki XML by tail/head-cutting the original file, the same page (here Catégorie:Rock par ville) gets filtered in the small file, not in the original… Any idea ? • Is there a programming toolkit for converting "any file type" to a TIFF image?

  Hello, I've written several variations of a program. The purpose of the program is to convert "any file type" to a TIFF image represenation of that file, as if it were being printed using a printer. I'm currently using a third party printer driver that I send files to, and it outputs a TIFF image. This is nice, but it requires me to use Office Interop files, and interact with each individual processing application in order to print the files. I had previously tried a toolkit, called Apose .NET, which did not rely on Office Interop, and did not require any printer driver. It did the conversion all on its own and would create a TIFF image. The problem with Aspose .NET was that it did not support a wide variety of input file types. Most notably, it can't do Visio files. My project calls for the ability to create a TIFF image for virtually "any file type". (excluding exes, music files, and stuff) I know that finding something that handles literally any file type is probably not a very feasible task, so I figure if it can at least handle all the Office file types, Adobe types, and other major standard file types, then I can write a custom extension parsing module that uses those processing applications to do the printing of any file type that can be viewed using those applications. So, does anyone know of a toolkit that can do this? Preferably one that does not rely on Office or a printer driver. It does not have to be free, or open source. Or, if you know of an amazing printer driver that does this, I'm open to that too. Thanks in advance, Ryan
