  • What is the difference between Windows RT and Windows Phone 8?

    From what I have read it seems there are more or less three versions(?) of Windows 8: Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Phone 8. While the difference between Windows 8 and Windows RT is clear, I don't understand the difference between Windows RT and Windows Phone 8. The Android parallel, Jelly Bean that runs on Tablets and on Phones doesn't have any differences. Are there any differences between Windows RT and Windows Phone 8 except for the fact that one is for Tablets (Windows RT) and the other is for Phones (Windows Phone 8)?

  • WAMP vhost issues with all vhost pointing to the first vhost statement

    I am trying to setup vhosts in WAMPSERVER and I am running into an issue where all sites are pointing to the first vhosts and not delegating properly. Has anyone had this issue? Here is my setup.     I am looking for a (linux) command line tool to parse HTML files and extract some elements, ideally with some XPath-like syntax. I have the following requirements: It must be able to parse arbitrary HTML files (which may contain errors) in a robust manner It must be able to extract text of elements and attributes What I have tried so far: xmlstarlet: would be perfect, but mostly reports errors in files (e.g. entity not defined), even xml fo or htmltidy does not help. xmllint: the best I have found so far, but is not able to extract attribute texts. Something like //a/@href reports <a href="foo">, what I need is just foo. string(//a/@href) works, but queries only the first entry. data is not supported. hxextract: works, but cannot extract attributes. XQilla: would support XPath 2.0 and thus data. It also support xqilla:parse-html, but I have had no luck making this work. Can you recommend me another tool?

  • How to get my external IP address(over NAT) from Windows command-line?

    Windows "ipconfig" command can only show me the parameters from the ethernet interfaces from my machine(even with the "ipconfig /all" argument), it can show detailed information about the interface, but will never show me my external IP address over a NAT network. However, there are several websites, such as "What is my IP" that can get and show my external IP addres. So I'm wondering, if is possible to get this value externally, should I expect that there is some way to get this information from a command line at my local machine... I need to get this value to log on an application that I'm doing with VB Script. There is some way to do this, from a "cmd" on Windows?

    Protocol: SFTP (port 22) I've tested CuteFtp, FileZilla, SecureCRT and several others. Looks like CuteFTP has the best throughput, usually 200%-400% than others. I've read something about SecureFtp may have slower rate from here. Can anyone explain why CuteFtp has better throughput? And, is there any other FTP client even faster than CuteFtp? Thanks a lot!

  • BSOD trying to migrate Windows XP from a physical to a virtual machine

    I am attempting to migrate a Windows XP Home installation from a physical machine to a virtual machine. The physical machine has two hard disks; the first is 250GB containing the "C:", the second is 1TB containing "D:". I'd like to create a new virtual machine stored on the D:, which is a copy of the Windows XP Home installation that is currently on the C:. (This will leave the 250GB drive clear for me to install a fresh copy of Windows 7, and still be able to access the old XP installation if necessary.) The first method I tried was to follow the instructions here: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Migrate_Windows I booted up from an Ubuntu Live CD in order to execute the Linux commands whilst the Windows system wasn't running. With this method the virtual machine would always blue screen on startup with a "STOP 0x0000007B" message. The instructions above say to try a "repair install" using the Windows XP disc. Unfortunately for me my XP disc is scratched and will not boot so I was unable to try a repair install. The second method I tried was to use "VMWare Converter Standalone Client". This tool executed without any errors, but again produced a virtual machine that blue screens on startup with the same "STOP" message. Are there any other methods to move the Windows XP installation into a virtual machine? I think next I will try some more manual process to create the cloned virtual machine. I think I will try installing a fresh copy of Windows XP to a virtual machine, then once that is booting OK I will ntfsclone the source C: partition over the top. Perhaps this will fix the booting problems if the issue is related to the MBR or partition table in some way.

    Hi folks, i'm trying to rip a CD using Windows Media Player 11 on XP ... and the destination folder is in the ALBUM NAME. Now, i can't see HOW it can rip to a new folder, named after the album. As far as I can tell, it's named by the Artist Name .. which sorta sucks for me. So, is there a way I can rip a CD with WMP11 that puts the songs into a new/existing folder which is the name of the Album? cheers :)

  • win7 amd64 guest in kvm does not have sound

    hi, my host system is gentoo amd64, guest system is win 7 amd64. the guest system can work, except it does not have sound. i start kvm with -soundhw ac97, QEMU_AUDIO_DRV='alsa', and after i get into the guest system, i can see a 'Multimedia Audio Controller' in the device manager. but win7 cannot find the driver for it. i searched the network for a long time, and i cannot find a driver for intel ac97 for win7 amd64. i also tried -soundhw sb16, es1370, none of them work. please help me fix this.

    I have a few questions, please help: Fist, I can access google search just by typing http://74.125.224.211 because this is the ip address returned by nslookup. However, I could not do so with ip addresses returned from www.yahoo.com. How do I go to yahoo search page by its ip ? Another example, http://www.allaboutcircuits.com will resolve to 68.233.243.63 by DNS server, but if I go to http://68.233.243.63 I got "Hello world!" , lol ! Second, for some reason, there is something wrong with DNS resolvers with my web hosting service (it will not be fixed !!). So command like, get_file_contents("http://www.allaboutcircuits.com"); will return php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known How do I get around this with IP address , 68.233.243.63 I mean somehow attach the HTTP hostname parameter to get_file_contents() ? I would like to solve this on my own side (in my code), no troubleshooting/adjustment will be done by server admin.

  • Macbook Pro suddenly lagging video playback + Flash sites

    I have a Macbook Pro, OSx Lion, Intel Core2 Duo, 4GB Ram, NVidia Geforce 8600M GT 128 MB Ram, Intel x25m SSD. Approximately 4 years old. I've been running Flash sites and playing videos without any problems for years. Then suddenly 3 months ago, a flash site like http://thefwa.com is lagging in all browsers. Even mouseover animations - anything. Also video playback in e.g VLC and Quicktime is now lagging. Same videos I used before, I tried installing an older version of VLC without any luck. Playing back video in VLC utilizes the CPU almost 100%, and Flash sites like thefwa.com easily takes up 50-60%. It's as if the hardware acceleration stopped working, or the GPU lost its magic. UPDATE: Same issues also occurred on Snow Leopard Has anyone experienced something similar, or do you know what might be wrong?

  • Ubuntu and Belkin N150 f6d4050 Wireless USB adapter v2

    I'm new to Ubuntu, and I'm trying to get my Belkin USB adapter to work. There are plenty of discussions out there already about this, but none really helped me out. Here's what I've done - Installed ndiswrapper Installed ndisgtk Installed the driver (rt2870.inf) via ndisgtk ndisgtk reported that the driver was installed and the hardware was present. The green light on the adapter is solid green, which I assume means that Ubuntu is aware of it's presence. However, when I click the little wireless symbol at the navigation bar, there's no option to choose my adapter (assuming that it's supposed to show up there...)   • Does the Win XP/7 dual boot "missing restore points" problem apply to systems with separate hard disks for each O/S?

    I'm in the process of installing Windows 7/64 on a system with Windows XP/32 on it. During my research, I read about a problem that occurs in the dual boot scenario where Windows XP deletes Windows 7's restore points when it accesses the Windows 7 volume: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926185 I found a workaround but it seems pretty painful since it appears to involve using the registry to make the Windows 7 volume appear invisible or "offline" to Windows XP, making sharing disk data between the two O/S annoying since you have to use something like an external storage device to get it done: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/127417-system-restore-points-stop-xp-dual-boot-delete.html I was wondering if this problem only occurs with systems that have both O/S installed on the same physical hard drive (in different partitions)?   • What is this jumper for on my new motherboard?

    I am building a new PC, I just got my motherboard in the mail today. It is a ASRock X58 Extreme 3. I am reading over the manual for it and one of the jumpers says this. There is a 3 pin jumper labeled 1 2 3, with pins 1 and 2 shorted by default it is "+5v" If I manually change it to short jumper pins 2 and 3 instead of 1 and 2 then it will be "+5vSB (standby) for PS/2 or USB wake up events. So I am confused as to exactly what this is for. Can someone explain what it means, why I would want one other the other?

  • I reinstalled OS X and the system was the same as before

    Strange thing happened. I want so sell my old Macbook and therefore used a disk image of the Snow Leopard DVD that I restored onto an external drive. I booted off the drive and went through the installation steps. Now I really would like to perform "archive and install", as there might be some files that I need later, but I didn't see the option. The only options for installation I had, were, including others, optional printer drivers and Rosetta. So I just clicked through and I wasn't given any other option. After about 45 minutes, my system booted again, and voila, there was my old system. Nothing changed. How should I proceed to actually reset the system? All I have is that Snow Leopard DVD image.

    I have a spreadsheet structured as follows: Summary section at the top Detail section on the bottom Summary section summarizes the detail section which is filtered using auto filters There are ten products that all need to be printed individually, but I want the page footer to show the overall page position of all the print jobs and the total number of pages. That is probably not clear. So for example, if I print the two page Product A view it will print page 1 of 2 and 2 of 2. If I print the one page Product B it will show page 1 of 1. What I want is to print both and have Product A show Page 1 of 3, Page 2 of 3, and Product B be Page 3 of 3. Is there any way to accomplish this?

  • Vertical alignment problem in textbox in Microsoft Word 2007

    I pardon as its not a programming question at all. But if anybody can answer this it will be usefull for me. In MS word 2007 I drew a textbox and entered some text. Then I right clicked on textbox and went to format shape Then went to TextBox tab and reduced the top internal margin to 0.1 cm. But still it seems there is too much space at the top inside the textbox. I am not able to position the text exactly at the vertical middle of textbox. If I choose the auto-rezide option in format Shape, the textBox size is increases automatically but the text remains exactly at vertical and horizontal middle of textbox. but anyhow I need the textbox to be small. This is very minor but annoying problem. Can anybody help?
