  • Is there a way to make NoScript always allow .pdf files?

    I'm using Firefox with NoScript to stop the bad stuff. I've also told Acrobat Reader to load .pdf files in it's own window instead of inside the browser (because sometimes it locks up, and then I would have to restart the browser). However, whenever I come across a .pdf file, I always get a new tab completely covered by the NoScript box. Then, I can click anywhere in that page, and NoScript asks me if I'm sure I want to allow it. Then, Acrobat Reader is launched in its own window, but the Firefox tab remains, and I have to close it. It seems like NoScript is getting in the way of Acrobat's attempt to just open the file without making a new tab. Is there a way to tell NoScript to always allow .pdf files (Or any other suggestion to make that annoying blank tab go away by itself)?

    I have a number of secure emails sent to my outlook 2007 client. most arrive fine and display the prompt with regards to granting access to the certificate and then open. today i received two that when i try and open them they crash outlook. i have tried restarting outlook and my computer. please can you give me some ideas of what it could be or how i can troubleshoot this issue. i am working on Vista Utlimate x64. thanks.   • DD-WRT (WRT54G) and (THOMSON TG782) how to put them togather?

    Ok so let me explain, i bought WRT54G and successfully installed DD-WRT v24-sp1 (07/26/08) mini-special - build 9994. That's all ok no problems with it all normal functioning. And just to add (i don't need wireless, wireless is turned off always) What i want: ISP's router (TG782) from it's INTERNET port(out) cable "which was before in my pc" is connected to WRT54G's INTERNET port and then from WRT54G LAN port 1 to my pc. The problem: How do i connect and setup all? I have tried many times on many different ways but cant get it to work IF THE CABLE FROM TG782 IS CONNECTED TO WRT54G ON INTERNET PORT. If i connect the TG782 to Lan port 1 on WRT54G and my pc to lan port 2 then all works fine after i setup gateway and all. But i want to connect TG782 to Internet port of WRT54G because i need "Access Restrictions" and this only goes through WAN right? please correct me if i am wrong. What i have tried: This is how i have tried to setup all. The TG782 router ip is 192.168.1.1 And WRT54G ip is 192.168.1.30 so in WRT54G control panel i have setup like this: ----WAN Connection Type---- Connection Type: Automatic Configuration - DHCP STP: Disabled ----Router IP---- Local IP Address: 192.168.1.30 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (the TG782) ----Network Address Server Settings (DHCP)---- DHCP Type: DHCP Server Start IP Address: 192.168.1.100 Maximum DHCP Users: 6 And this wont work i probably miss something more, if anyone can help i would be thankfull. Also i have to note that i have tried to set my network adapter on pc to use the gateway of WRT54G and ip 192.168.1.102 In short: i cant get it to work normal only as a switch!     I have an Airport Express that I have plugged into a speaker system. I can change the music in my house with my iPhone through Apple's Remote app. Great. Now is my Airport Express compatible with Air Sharing? Can I 'push' music or sound to my Airport Express and out the speakers that are plugged into it? Or is this only possible with an Apple TV? And if I get an Apple TV can I do what I'm trying to do? 'Push' music from someone's iPhone that is on the same WIFI network as mine to a speaker system?

  • Very strange networking problem in all computers in my house

    I have three computers in my house: One desktop (wired), and two laptops (wireless). I'm using Cox Communications (yes they suck), and yesterday they had a major outage. I know it was them because I called them up when I started losing connection to the internet. All the computers can connect just fine, but they don't have internet access. It just says "local only". The weird thing is, some of them work occasionally. For the first day my laptop was working perfectly, while all the other computers couldn't connect. Later on in the day it got reversed, and the desktop was the one with internet access. By the second day the problem on Cox's end was fixed, but we still had no access. I called them up and they reset my modem, and did the usual troubleshooting stuff. It never fixed the problem, but we found out that the problem had to do with conflicting IP addresses. My router was a Linksys WRT54G and it was about 5 years old. I figured it might have gotten damaged from the outage since it was so old, and now it's having trouble "fixing itself" and giving out the proper IP addresses. So I bought a new router, a Cisco Linksys E1000. I set everything up, and still the same problem. My computer has access right now (that's how I'm writing this), but no other computers seem to be able to get access. Is there possible damage to the modem? Can someone help me please? Sorry for this being so long.

    Hi, Let's say I have a chat window open in a web browser, and I'm waiting for a message from my partner, trying to do something else in the meantime. The chat window (not an installed program) will not alert me of an incoming message, nor will the task bar flash or anything. Is there any utility that can help me? In search of a solution, I came across AutoHotKey. There is a script called livewindows.ahk, which will show a piece of the window anywhere on the screen, but it won't alert me on a change. I'm not skilled enough to know how to store and compare e.g. every second's content of some window area. Maybe someone has invented this wheel? Thanks in advance for any hint or advice. Leonardo

Also I made sure add remote admin rule to Windows Firewall via command line without success!: netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="windows management instrumentation (wmi)" new enable=yes netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="remote administration" new enable=yes NOTE: If I use the GUI to create the print server port then add the printer via command line: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "Xerox WorkCenter 7535" /F C:\Windows\Inf\WC7545-7556_PCL6_x64_Driver\x2DNORX.inf /r "Xerox_192.168.113.253" /m "Xerox WorkCentre 7535 PCL6" THE PRINTER IS SUCCESSFULLY ADDED.   • graphics performance better on battery?

    Anyone have any idea why my laptop would perform (considerably) better while on battery than while plugged in? It's a Dell Latitude E6420 with Windows 8 Pro. I tried mirroring all the settings in the selected power plan from "On battery" to "Plugged In" and that didn't help. I then just restored the defaults for all power plans (balanced and high performance). I'm still seeing the same results. The best example where it is most noticeable (don't laugh) is Sim City Social in Chrome. I'm probably seeing a performance increase of 5x on battery versus plugged in. This is easily reproducible too. I'm very confused. Could it be caused by dust? The laptop isn't that old and there is no visible dust. I'm not going to take it apart to check the insides as it's a corporate laptop. Could it be overheating? Battery Sim City Social: 68 degrees max Civ V: 77 degrees max Charger Sim City Social: 68 Civ V: did not test See answer below... I'm retarded

  • Keyboard shortcuts to control WinAmp

    Some keyboards have a play/pause button built into the keyboard. I don't have one of those, but I'd like to set up a keyboard shortcut to do the same thing. I'd like the shortcut to work no matter what application has the focus. Is there a way to configure this in WinXP? Also, I'm using an old version of WinAmp (2.95). I'm not sure if that matters, as I thought these keyboard buttons worked universally somehow (but maybe I'm wrong?).

    Why would BitDefender Bootable Rescue CD (and loads of other Rescue CDs too) be able to identify but unable to fix or delete malware? It can however put it into quarintine. And what happens when the viruses are put into quarintine? It dosn't really mean anything if it can successfully put the malware into quarintine if it's a CD-bootable OS. It's only quarintined in the context of the memory it exists in. When I restart windows, I'm still infected with loads of viruses. Thanks Dave

    After a windows crash, I bought a new computer. I would like to recover the mails stored in the old install. I can access the old drive as a data disk, but windows won't boot anymore from it. I've reinstalled everything on the new computer, but can't find my old emails. Where are they stored ? Since I can't boot from the old drive, I cannot use Outlook's .pst export :(

  • Is there a quick way to remove browser decorations

    I'm finding that more and more applications use browsers as their user interface and I am caught in a dilemma. When browsing I want a browser window to have browser buttons, navigation icons, etc. When I'm using the browser for an application like twitter or yammer then I don't need those and having them just reduces the application area. I would rather save the vertical space and have a very sparse undecorated window. The problem is it does not seem easy to do this. My initial thought was to just install two different browsers. For example use Firefox with all the toolbars and then set IE to show no toolbars. I think this is ok but I would like a cleaner solution. Maybe a plugin in Firefox that turns everything off easily or something.

    It's unclear to me exactly how secure Remote Desktop access from Mac OS X to a Windows Server 2003 machine is. Is the communication encrypted by default? What level of encryption? Are there best practices for making this as secure as possible? I found http://www.mobydisk.com/techres/securing_remote_desktop.html but it's unclear how much of that is still relevant for current versions of RDP and Windows Server. I know I can tunnel RDP over ssh, but is that overkill or redundant?

    If I run grep -ir "somethingtomatch" . from the current directory, I typically get results like this: ./some/path/file1.html: filecontent filecontent keyword filecontent ./some/path/file2.html: filecontent filecontent filecontent keyword ./some/path/file3.html: filecontent keyword filecontent filecontent ./some/path/file4.html: keyword filecontent filecontent filecontent I used grep --color=auto -ir 'somethingtomatch" . but it only highlights the keywords in white on a red highlight. I'm trying to get file names on the left color-coded too. How do I do that? I'm using Terminal.app in OS X with bash and xterm (and I tried xterm-color too).

  • Why doesn't the monitor output anything in Linux console mode?

    I install Linux without graphics support. Previously I used a monitor with 720p support. And it can display normally. Now I change to a monitor with 1080p support. I can see BIOS and GRUB info on monitor, and kernel messages in early stages. However, the monitor says that there is no input immediately, and then I can't see anything again. It seems that it happens after something initializes.   • Surface (Pro) Soft Keyboard + Hardware Keyboard Issue

    When I got my Surface Pro 2, I loved it, and everything seemed to work flawlessly, until, wait for it, windows updates... The issue that I am having is the following, I primarily use the TC (TypeCover), as the Pro is an out-of-office laptop replacement for me, that I can still use to do whatever I need, but there are times when I will flip the cover, and use the system in tablet mode. The problem is that even when the TC is attached, any text field I click on, causes the OSK (on screen keyboard) to appear, as if I was running the system in tablet mode. As soon as I press a single button on the TC, the OSK is dismissed. When I first got the system, this was NOT the case, and it functioned as it should, where the OSK will only appear if the TC was not present. The biggest problem that I am having is the fact that the OSK causes the windows to be resized. Maximized windows will be shrunk, and stretched to their previous state, however a window that is not maximized will stay in its shrunken state, after the OSK has been dismissed. Below are pictures that show what is happening. Has anyone else experienced this issue? And is there any way to fix it? As you might imagine, having spent a pretty penny on a device like this, it it quite an annoying bug that needs fixing. I have been dealing with this issue for about 3 months now.

  • Password-protected sharing allows access to users who have no account?

    Running Win7 on two computers in my LAN. Computer A has password-protected sharing enabled, and shares a folder. It has a single user account "Bob", and the Guest account is turned off. The network is workgroup-based. According to the descriptions of the "password-protected sharing" I could find, the only people who can access the shared folder via the LAN are those who know the username+password for the "Bob" account. However a second computer on the LAN is able to view this shared folder by simply browsing to Computer A. They don't need to enter any passwords or anything. The only user account registered on that PC is called "Jim", and has a different password from "Bob". How on earth is computer B able to view this shared folder? Is the popular description of the "password-protected sharing" feature inaccurate / did I misunderstand it big time? P.S. There is a possibility that the password for "Bob" has been entered on that PC once, and possibly the "remember password" box was checked. I've looked in the "Credential Manager" on both computers and there is nothing saved anywhere.
