I have my development/test system and want to migrate to production.” Users of Oracle R Enterprise Embedded R Execution will often store their R scripts in the R Script Repository in Oracle Database, especially when using the ORE SQL API. From previous blog posts, you may recall that Embedded R Execution enables running R scripts managed by Oracle Database using both R and SQL interfaces. In ORE 1.3.1., the SQL API requires scripts to be stored in the database and referenced by name in SQL queries. The SQL API enables seamless integration with database-based applications and ease of production deployment. Loading R scripts in the repository Before talking about migration, we’ll first introduce how users store R scripts in Oracle Database. Users can add R scripts to the repository in R using the function ore.scriptCreate, or SQL using the function sys.rqScriptCreate. For the sample R script     id <- 1:10     plot(1:100,rnorm(100),pch=21,bg="red",cex =2)     data.frame(id=id, val=id / 100) users wrap this in a function and store it in the R Script Repository with a name. Accessing R scripts once they’ve been loaded If you’re not using a source code control system, it is possible that your R scripts can be misplaced or files modified, making what is stored in Oracle Database to only or best copy of your R code. If you’ve loaded your R scripts to the database, it is straightforward to access these scripts from the database table SYS.RQ_SCRIPTS.     Just had meeting with Fortune 1000 company regarding their private DBaaS or DaaS offering. Interesting to see what DBaaS really means to them: 1. Automated Database provisioning - Being able to 'one button' provision databases and database objects. This includings creating the database instance, creating database objects, network configuration and security provisioning. It is estimated that just being able to provision a new DB table in automated fashion will reduce time required to create a new DB table from 60 hours down to 8 hours. 2.   • Is executing SQL through a WebService a really bad idea?

    Typically when creating a simple tool or something that has to use a database, I go through the fairly long process of first creating a webservice that connects to a database then creating methods on this webservice that do all the type of queries I need.. methods like List<Users> GetUsers() { ... } User GetUserByID(int id) { ... } //More Get/Update/Add/Delete methods Is it terrible design to simply make the webservice as secure as I can (not quite sure the way to do something like this yet) and just make a couple methods like this SqlDataReader RunQuery(string sql) { ... } void RunNonQuery(string sql) { ... } I would sorta be like exposing my database to the internet I suppose, which sounds bad but I'm not sure. I just feel like I waste so much time running everything through this webservice, there has to be a quicker yet safe way that doesn't involve my application connecting directly to the database (the application can't connect directly to database because the database isn't open to any connections but localhost, and where the appliction resides the standard sql ports are blocked anyway) Especially when I just need to run a few simple queries

    I started my Career as core-Java developer 6 years ago and stayed as developer for 6-7 month and then moved to performance testing (actualy pushed into this for short term and later I started liking it). I have done all sort of non-functional testing like performance, load, stress, soak, compatibility, failover etc on many performance test tools accross many industries. I was doing contracting all these years which means I kept moving to new projects after every 3-6 months. Now personal situation has been changed, married man now so looking for something long term. Performance testing generally comes at the end of the development life cycle hence very short term contracts so I was wondering if I can move into functional/test automation side I can earn myself good length of contract. I had some exposure of QTP but I am sure to learn all other tools very quickly as I am quite good in programming and concept of testing. in short I want to move into functional test automation to get long term contract without leaving my love for programming . any thoughts please ?

    How to implement progress bar and backgroundworker for database calls C#? I do have some methods that deal with large amounts of data. They do last a lot, so in my windows application, i wanna do something to tell users that the data are being processed. So i thought of using progress bar or status strip label, but since there is a single ui thread, the thread where the database-dealing methods are executed, ui controls are not updated, so progress bar or status strip label are useless to me. But, as soon as I add in one more from clause that instead of referencing objects, references SQL table, I get an error. So, altering above to something like so where db is defined as a new DataContext (i.e., class deriving from System.Data.Linq.DataContext): var a = new [] { 1, 4, 7 }; var b = new [] { 2, 5, 8 }; var test = from symbol in db.Symbols from i in a from j in b select new { A = i, B = j, AB = string.Format("{0}{1:00}a{2:00}b", symbol.ID, i, j), }; foreach (var t in test) Console.Write("{0}, ", t.AB); The error I get is following: Local sequence cannot be used in LINQ to SQL implementations of query operators except the Contains operator Its related to not using Contains apparently but I'm unsure how Contains would be used when I don't really want to constrict the results - I want the Cartesian product for my situation. Any ideas of how to use Contains above and still yield the Cartesian product when joining database and local sequences?

  • Is it possible to update old database from dbml file ? (C#, .Net 4, Linq, SQL Server)

    Hi all, I began recently a new job, a very interesting project (C#,.Net 4, Linq, VS 2010 and SQL Server). And immediately I got a very exciting challenge: I must implement either a new tool or integrate the logic when program start, or whatever, but what must happen is the following: the customers have previous application and database (full with their specific data). Now a new version is ready and the customer gets the update. In the mean time we made some modification on DB (new table, columns, maybe an old column deleted, or whatever). I’m pretty new in Linq and also SQL databases and my first solution can be: I check the applications/databases version and implement all the changes step by step comparing all tables, columns, keys, constrains, etc. (all this new information I have in my dbml and the old I asked from the existing DB). And I’ll do this each time the version changed. But somehow I feel, this is NOT a smart solution so I look for a general solution of this problem. Is there a way to update customers DB from the dbml file? To create a new one is not a problem (CreateDatabase with DataContext), is there any update/alter database methods? I guess I’m not the only one who search for such a solution (I found nothing in internet – or I looked for bad keywords). How did you solve this problem? I look also for an external tool, but first for a solution with C#, Linq or something similar. For any idea thank you in advance! Best regards, Emil

    Hi, I'm trying to write an application that has two DataGrids - the first one displays customers and the second one selected customer's records. I have generated the ADO.NET Entity Model and the connection property are set in App.config file. Now I want to populate the datagrids with the data from sql ce 3.5 database which does not support LINQ-TO-SQL. I used this code for the first datagrid in code behind: CompanyDBEntities db; private void Window_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { db = new CompanyDBEntities(); ObjectQuery<Employees> departmentQuery = db.Employees; try { // lpgrid is the name of the first datagrid this.lpgrid.ItemsSource = departmentQuery; } catch (Exception ex) { MessageBox.Show(ex.Message); } However, the datagrid is empty although there are records in a database. It would also be better to use it in MVVM pattern but I'm not sure how does the ado.net and MVVM work together and if it is even possible to use them like that. Could anyone help? Thanks in advance.

    I'm dealing with a legacy database that has date and time fields as char(8) columns (formatted yyyyMMdd and HH:mm:ss, respectively) in some of the tables. How can i map the 2 char columns to a single .NET DateTime property? I have tried the following, but i get a "can't access setter" error of course because DateTime Date and TimeOfDay properties are read-only: public class SweetPocoMannaFromHeaven { public virtual DateTime? FileCreationDateTime { get; set; } } . mapping.Component<DateTime?>(x => x.FileCreationDateTime, dt => { dt.Map(x => x.Value.Date, "file_creation_date"); dt.Map(x => x.Value.TimeOfDay, "file_creation_time"); }); I have also tried defining a IUserType for DateTime, but i can't figure it out. I've done a ton of googling for an answer, but i can't figure it out still. What is my best option to handle this stupid legacy database convention?   • How to restrict text search to a certain subset of the database ?

    I have a large central database of around 1 million heavy records. In my app, for every user I would have a subset of rows from central table, which would be very small (probably 100 records each).When a particular user has logged in , I would want to search on this data set only. Example: Say I have a central database of all cars in the world. I have a user profile for General Motors(GM) , Ferrari etc. When GM is logged in I just want to search(a full text search and not fire a sql query) for those cars which are manufactured by GM. Also GM may launch/withdraw a model in which case central db would be updated & so would be rowset associated with GM. In case of acquisitions, db of certain profiles may change without launch/removal of new car. So central db wont change then , but rowsets may. Whats the best way to implement such a design ? These smaller row sets would need to be dynamic depending on user activities. We are on Rails 2.3.5 and use thinking_sphinx as the connector and Sphinx/MySQL for search and relational associations.

  • How do I store a string longer than 4000 characters in an Oracle Database using Java/JDBC?

    I’m not sure how to use Java/JDBC to insert a very long string into an Oracle database. I have a String which is greater than 4000 characters, lets say it’s 6000. I want to take this string and store it in an Oracle database. The way to do this seems to be with the CLOB datatype. Okay, so I declared the column as description CLOB. Now, when it comes time to actually insert the data, I have a prepared statement pstmt. It looks like pstmt = conn.prepareStatement(“INSERT INTO Table VALUES(?)”). So I want to use the method pstmt.setClob(). However, I don’t know how to create a Clob object with my String in it; there’s no constructor (presumably because it can be potentially much larger than available memory). How do I put my String into a Clob? Keep in mind I’m not a very experienced programmer; please try to keep the explanations as simple as possible. Efficiency, good practices, etc. are not a concern here, I just want the absolute easiest solution. I’d like to avoid downloading other packages if it all possible; right now I’m just using JDK 1.4 and what is labelled “ojdbc14.jar”. I've looked around a bit but I haven't been able to follow any of the explanations I've found. If you have a solution that doesn’t use Clobs, I’d be open to that as well, but it has to be one column.

  • php sessions in database only writing part of information to the table...

    I'm having difficulty figuring out what's going on here, hoping some one can help me out. I have been using php, mysql storing my session information in the database. The app is only running on localhost, vista. In the php.ini file I commented out the "session.save_handler = files" line and am using a php class to handle the session writes/reads, etc. My login process is this: Submit login credentials via login.php. login.php calls loginprocess.php. loginprocess.php verifies user, and if valid starts a new session and adds data to the session vars, then it redirects to index.php. Here's the problem. the loginprocess.php page has a bunch of session vars that get set like $_SESSION['account_id'] = $account_id; etc. but when I go to index.php and do a var_dump($_SESSION) it just says "array() empty". However, if I do a var_dump($_SESSION) in loginprocess.php, just before the redirection line header("Location: ../index.php"); then it shows all the data in the session variable. If I look in the database where the session information is stored, there is data in the session_id field, created_ts field, and expires field, but the session_data field has nothing inside of it and in the past this is the field where all my session data was stored. How could I be able to var_dump the session in loginprocess.php, but the data not exist in the db table, is it using some kind of caching? I cleared my cookies, etc...but no change. Why is the session_id, being written to the table, but the actual session data is not? Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

  • How do I retrieve an automated report and save it to a database?

    I've got a web server that will take scripts in Python, PHP or Perl. I don't know much about any of those languages, but of the three, Python seems the least scary. It has a MySql database set up, and I know enough SQL to manage it and write queries for it. I also have a program that I want to add automated error reporting to. Something goes wrong, it sends a bug report to my server. What I don't know how to do is write a Python script that will sit on the web server and, when my program sends in a bug report, do the following: Receive the bug report. Parse it out into sections. Insert it into the database. Have the server send me an email. From what little I understand, this seems like it shouldn't be too difficult if I only knew what I was doing. Could someone point me to a site that explains the basic principles I'd need to create a script like this?
