• help setting up an IPSEC vpn from my linux box

  I have an office with a router and a remote server (Linux - Ubuntu 10.10). Both locations need to connect to a data supplier through a VPN. The VPN is an IPSEC gateway. I was able to configure my Linksys rv42 router to create a VPN connection successfully and now I need to do the same for Linux server. I have been messing around with this for too long. First I tried OpenVPN, but that is SSL and not IPSEC. Then I tried Shrew. I think I have the settings correct but I haven't been able to create the connection. It maybe that I have to use something else like a direct IPSEC config or something like that. If someone knows of a way to turn the following settings that I have been given below into a working IPSEC VPN connection I would be very grateful. • Robocopy with local catalog of remote data for incremental backup

  I am currently using robocopy to an extremely slow destination. The compare between source and destination files can take a while to run through. Since the destination will never change (apart from the robocopy changes), is there any program that will work similarly to robocopy, but have a local list of what files (attributes and timestamps) the destination has, to compare with? I know there are expensive solutions which may do this, but I'm looking for something free if possible. Hopefully this makes sense.

• Django admin interface upload failing on request data read error

  Hi All, This is an updated version of an old question I asked. I've now done a lot more testing, plus the old question got hijacked. I'm getting a request data read error when trying to upload files to the Django admin interface. Files under about 150k work, but bigger files always fail and almost always at around 192k (that's 3 chunks) completed, sometimes at around 160k. The Exception I get is below. File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/django/http/multipartparser.py", line 405, in read return self._file.read(num_bytes) IOError: request data read error I've tried Chrome and Firefox on Windows and Firefox on Mac - Same results. I can upload to other sites so I don't think it's my connection. I'm running python 2.4, django 1.1, mod_wsgi, on CentOS (a media temple DV server) Locally it's fine (Django development server) Everything I've found on this issue says it's a mod_python issue and that changing to mod_wsgi will fix it, but I am running mod_wsgi. Can anyone help?

When I try to create a "Self Extracting Installer" option, at the end of the install it runs my batch file and it appears to be extracting all the files just before it does that, but after extraction, the files are nowhere to be found (except within the .7z archive).   We are creating a modular Web Site Project and all the UI is based on simple html pages with javascript widgets. These widgets obtain the data from a WCF class located in the app_code folder. Each widget has 3 files [ js, css , cs] and an image directory: , and we want all these files to be located under the same directory, say: /widgets/mywidget/ The problem is that the .cs file needs to be in the app_code folder to be compiled dynamically and that would break our widget modularity forcing the installator to distribute the widget code in two places. One of the options is use compiled assemblies instead of .cs files and use Assembly.Load() or smthg similar to load them when needed. What other options do you see?

• Embedding an existing exe file into another C++ program

  Is there a way to link an existing .exe file with other C++ source files during compilation? What I'm actually trying to do is to compress and decompress some files in my console program using LZMA(7zip) SDK but unfortunately it's very difficult to use for a newbie. There is a command line version of LZMA called 7za.exe and I am wondering if I can somehow embed it into my program and use it like a function. It can be easily used with system() function (which seems to be a very dangerous thing to use) but then if I send my program to someone who doesn't have 7za.exe in the right folder it won't work. I came across CreateProcess() function in windows.h header files but it seems to achieve what system() does in a more proper and advanced way. I don't know if it can actually link the exe file like an object file during compilation

  I have two config files located in: /etc/svnauth and var/www/svnauth I have given read, write access to for both files like shown below chown -R apache:apache /etc/svnauth chmod -R 770 /etc/svnauth chown -R apache:apache /var/www/svnauth chmod -R 770 /var/www/svnauth When I try to read these two files using pear/Config_Lite, /etc/svnauth always fails. • Code changes in the Dtsx file in an SSIS package not reflecting after deploying and running on the server

  I have some folder called Test-Deploy in which I keep all the dtsx files, manifest and configuration files. Whenever I want to deploy the ssis package, I run manifest file in this folder and deploy. My problem is I have to change one of the dtsx files out of it. So, I opened only that particular dtsx file BI studio, updated and built. After the build, I copied the dtsx file from bin folder and copied to my Test-Deploy folder. When I deployed and run this new package in the Test-Deploy folder, the changes I made are not reflecting in the result. I could not find any difference in the results before and after changing. My doubt is has it saved my previous dtsx file somewhere on the server and executing the same dtsx file instead of the new one?

  I want to use rsync to backup a directory from a local location to a remote location, and store changed files in another remote location. I did use: rsync -rcvhL --progress --backup [email protected]:/home/user/Changes/`date +%Y.%m.%d` . [email protected]:/home/user/Files/ The --backup-dir stays empty, while it should be filled. • VS2008 Express no longer opens projects after VS2010 express Phone

  So I installed the new april release of the VS2010 express for windows phone 7 and now VS2008 express C# no longer opens .csproj files. I'm at a loss as to why this is as I've not changed anything in the files themselves. I'm currently uninstalling windows phone 7 in the hopes that I will be able to open my files again. I have a feeling though I'm going to need to uninstall 2008 as well and the reinstall it to get everything to work. In the future how should I install 2010 express for win 7 phone to prevent it from interfering with 2008 express?

• Dynamically loading CSS and JavaScript using Prototype

  I have a classic ASP application that I've been constantly trying to modularize. Currently, almost all pages are divided in to two pages: an outer page that contains the layout, header, sidebar, footer an inner page that contains ASP code The outer pages use dreamweaver templates so updating layout and replicating changes is easy. The inner pages are managed by me. Now here is the problem: I had to add a lightbox to one page, I chose Lightbox 2 which requires Prototype. I ended up adding Prototype on every page, assuming that sooner or later I'll upgrade all pages, forms, ajax requests and other javascript to use Prototype. I've now added two other plugins -- Modalbox and Protofade; each with a pair of .JS and .CSS files. Since I'll be using these three plugins on specific set of pages I am wondering if I can load the required CSS and JS files dynamically. I do not want to access the document head and add include files there, I'll have to do this from inside a DIV where all ASP code is supposed to go.

  I'm using wxWidgets to write cross-plafrom applications. In one of applications I need to be able to load data from Microsoft Excel (.xls) files, but I need this to work on Linux as well, so I assume I cannot use OLE or whatever technology is available on Windows. I see that there are many open source programs that can read excel files (OpenOffice, KOffice, etc.), so I wonder if there is some library that I could use? Excel files it needs to support are very simple, straight tabular data. I don't need to extract any formatting except column/row position and the data itself.

• Windows 2003 GPO Software Restrictions

  We're running a Terminal Server farm in a Windows 2003 Domain, and I found a problem with the Software Restrictions GPO settings that are being applied to our TS servers. Here are the details of our configuration and the problem: All of our servers (Domain Controllers and Terminal Servers) are running Windows Server 2003 SP2 and both the domain and forest are at Windows 2003 level. Our TS servers are in an OU where we have specific GPO's linked and have inheritance blocked, so only the TS specific GPO's are applied to these TS servers. Our users are all remote and do not have workstations joined to our domain, so we don't use loopback policy processing. We take a "whitelist" approach to allowing users to run applications, so only applications that we approve and add as path or hash rules are able to run. We have the Security Level in Software Restrictions set to Disallowed and Enforcement is set to "All software files except libraries". What I've found is that if I give a user a shortcut to an application, they're able to launch the application even if it's not in the Additional Rules list of "whitelisted" applications. If I give a user a copy of the main executable for the application and they attempt to launch it, they get the expected "this program has been restricted..." message. It appears that the Software Restrictions are indeed working, except for when the user launches an application using a shortcut as opposed to launching the application from the main executable itself, which seems to contradict the purpose of using Software Restrictions. My questions are: Has anyone else seen this behavior? Can anyone else reproduce this behavior? Am I missing something in my understanding of Software Restrictions? Is it likely that I have something misconfigured in Software Restrictions? EDIT To clarify the problem a little bit: No higher level GPO's are being enforced. Running gpresults shows that in fact, only the TS level GPO's are being applied and I can indeed see my Software Restictions being applied. No path wildcards are in use. I'm testing with an application that is at "C:\Program Files\Application\executable.exe" and the application executable is not in any path or hash rule. If the user launches the main application executable directly from the application's folder, the Software Restrictions are enforced. If I give the user a shortcut that points to the application executable at "C:\Program Files\Application\executable.exe" then they are able to launch the program. EDIT Also, LNK files are listed in the Designated File Types, so they should be treated as executable, which should mean that they are bound by the same Software Restrictions settings and rules.

• MS-Access nested DIR - check if a file exists elsewhere whilst looping through a folder

  I have used the DIR() command in Microsoft Access 2003 to loop through the files in folder A. This works fine, but I need to check if each file also exists in another location (folder B), and only process the file if it doesn't exist in folder B. The problem is that checking for the file existing in folder B also uses the DIR() function and this then resets or confuses the original one, with the result that no further files are found in folder A. Is there a way to check if a file exists without using DIR? Or, is there a way to have a separate instance of DIR? I suppose I could build a list of the files in folder A into an array and then process the entries in the array, but this seems rather 'clunky' Any suggestions for a better solution? Thanks

  I just did an audit of one of my web application page (built using ASP.Net and running on development server) using Google chrome's developer tool. One particular warning caught my eyes: Serve static content from a cookieless domain (5)! Here is my screen shot (http://yfrog.com/7eauditresultp) as well. I would like to know is it possible to avoid cookies for these kind of requests. I see that there is no cookie requests for javascript files as well. I it possible to avoid cookies in the header for these files as well? and why didn't the browser attach cookies for javascript files and attach for CSS and image? • Maven test failure xml FileNotFoundException

  My Maven build is failing on Hudson with a FileNotFoundException, I do not get the same failure through NetBeans. The FileNotFoundException is for some xml files in the same packages as my test classes themselves. It would appear these are not getting copied as part of the build in the same way the class files are. Do I have to add something to my POM for the xml files to be copied? If any more information is required please let me know, I wanted to keep the question short incase it was something simple.

• Windows 8 permissions (CHMOD) with XAMPP

  While I know that CHMOD is impossible in Windows, I do have a problem with permissions. I'm running XAMPP on Windows 8 Release Preview and I'm trying to install ModenaCam. However, I get an error message which tells me that two files are not writable (they are 666) and they need to be 777. The permissions for the files are correct (full control for everyone, owner is everyone), but I can't get this thing to work! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  My problem is that a vendor is providing me with a 64bit application (packed in a 64bit installer) but it goes and installs to the x86 (Program Files) Folder and he keeps telling me its OK but I want it to install in the Program Files directory; as the 32 bit version does that and scripts for the app are developed based on this assumption.   I have several DVDs with short documentaries on it. Since the notebook I'm using (a Dell Latitude E6400) has only one DVD drive, and I might play back those short movies very often, I thought of copying them to the HDD and playing them back from there. However, I've run into a problem, namely stuttering audio. Problem description: When I play back these movies directly from DVD (with Windows Media Player 11 under Windows Vista), everything works fine. Smooth video, no significant audio problems (only the occasional click). But as soon as I copy any of these DVDs to the HDD and try to play them back from there (e.g. using the wmpdvd://drive/title/chapter?contentdir=path protocol, I get stuttering audio — audio playback sounds like a machine gun for a third of a second or so, approx. every 8 seconds. I have tried converting the VOB files from the DVD to another format (ie. ripping), but that resulted in a noticeable downgrade of picture quality. Therefore I thought it best to keep the files in their original format, if possible. Still, I suspect that the stuttering audio is due to some (de-)muxing problem, and that changing the file format might help. (After all, video playback is fine; therefore I don't think that the hardware is too slow for playback.) Only thing is, I don't know how to convert the VOB files to another Windows Media Player-compatible format without quality loss. I hope someone can help me, or give me further pointers on things I could try out to get HDD playback to work without the problem described. Some things I've tried so far, without any success: VOB2MPG, in order to convert the .vob file to a .mpg file. But that changes only the A/V container, not the content. No re-encoding takes place at all. Re-encoding with MPlayer/MEncoder. Lots of quality loss there, and I frankly haven't got the time to test all possible settings combinations available. Disabling all plug-ins, equalizers, etc. in Windows Media Player. Disabling all hardware acceleration on the audio playback device. Further info on the VOB files I'm trying to playback: The video format is MPEG ES, PAL 720x576 pixels @ 24/25 frames per second. The sound stream is uncompressed PCM, 16-bit stereo @ 48kHz. (Might it help if I somehow re-encoded the sound stream at a lower resolution, or as an MP3? If so, how would I do this without changing the video stream?) P.S.: I am limited to using Windows Media Player (11). (I previously tried MPlayer btw., but the video playback quality was surprisingly bad.)

• Searching for known Team Development helper tools

  Hello, My team is small, only two programmers.We both share one source ,but we live in different places.The problem is that Meanwhile I make changes on our project,the other team worker makes changes as well.It's very hard to write down every change,at least for us. When we decide we've made an important change,we contact each other sending the whole project's source. This is not good,because: The files sent from one do not contain the changes that the other worker has been working on meanwhile. We host the source on free servers,thus makes it possible for other to see the files.It will be VERY much better if only few(those that are changed) files are being uploaded rather than the whole project. • When does /tmp get cleared?

  I'm taking to putting various files in /tmp, and I wondered what the rules on deleting them are? I'm imagining it's different for different distributions, and I'm particularly interested in Ubuntu and Fedora desktop versions. But a nice general way of finding out would be a great thing. Even better would be a nice general way of controlling it! (Something like 'every day at 3 in the morning, delete any /tmp files older than 60 days, but don't clear the directory on reboot')

• Windows 7 Homegroups not working?

  I've got a homegroup set up, and only the accounts/machines where the user and password is identical can see/share files. I thought the setting to let homegroup control the accounts would make that requirement unnecessary....am I missing something? To be clear: I can see the other machines/user accounts in my homegroup listing, but I can't see any of the files in their shared libraries.
