  • Need unicode characters in UITableView from SQLlite database

    - by Lee Armstrong
    I have some NSString varibales that incude items like Ð and Õ and if I do cell.textLabel.text = person.name; and if it contains one of those characters the cell.textlabel is blank! I have discovered that if I use NSString *col1 = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatement, 0)]; To pull my data back it pulls back null, however using the deprectared method NSString *col1 = [NSString stringWithCString:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatement, 0)]; Shows the characters! Any ideas?

  • Strange behaviour with mediaplayer and seekTo

    - by Mathias Lin
    I'm implementing a custom video player because I need custom video controls. I have an app with only one activity, which on startup shall start playing a video right away. Now, the problem I have is: I don't want the video to start from the beginning, but from a later position. Therefore I do a seekTo(16867). Since seekTo is asynchronous, I place the start call of the mediaplayer (player.start()) in the onSeekComplete of the onSeekCompleteListener. The strange behaviour I experience though is that I can see/hear the video playing from the beginning for a few millisecs before it actually plays from/jumps to the position I seeked to. But - on the other hand - the Log output I call before the player.start returns the correct position 16867, where I seeked to. Below is the relevant code section, the complete class is at http://pastebin.com/jqAAFsuX (I'm on Nexus One / 2.2 StageFright) private void playVideo(String url) { try { btnVideoPause.setEnabled(false); if (player==null) { player=new MediaPlayer(); player.setScreenOnWhilePlaying(true); } else { player.stop(); player.reset(); } url = "/sdcard/myapp/main/videos/main.mp4"; // <--- just for test purposes hardcoded here now player.setDataSource(url); player.setDisplay(holder); player.setAudioStreamType(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC); player.setOnCompletionListener(this); player.setOnPreparedListener(this); player.setOnSeekCompleteListener(new MediaPlayer.OnSeekCompleteListener() { public void onSeekComplete(MediaPlayer mediaPlayer) { Log.d("APP", "current pos... "+ player.getCurrentPosition() ); player.start(); // <------------------ start video on seek completed player.setOnSeekCompleteListener(null); } }); player.prepareAsync(); } catch (Throwable t) { Log.e(TAG, "Exception in btnVideoPause prep", t); } } public void onPrepared(MediaPlayer mediaplayer) { width=player.getVideoWidth(); height=player.getVideoHeight(); if (width!=0 && height!=0) { holder.setFixedSize(width, height); progressBar.setProgress(0); progressBar.setMax(player.getDuration()); player.seekTo(16867); // <------------------ seeking to position } btnVideoPause.setEnabled(true); }

  • transforming from 'Y' or 'N' to bit

    - by rap-uvic
    Hello, I have a table which has a column called Direct of type char(1). It's values are either 'Y' or 'N' or NULL. I am creating a view and I want the value to be transformed to either 0 or 1 of type bit. Right now it's of type INT. How do I go about doing this? Following is the code: CASE WHEN Direct = 'Y' THEN (SELECT 1) WHEN Direct <> 'Y' THEN (SELECT 0) END AS DirectDebit

  • Delete last line in txt file

    - by user3658127
    I wrote a foreach loop for my datagridview to write all rows to txt file. I have a problem as it adds 2 empty lines at the end, as 1 row is full of empty cells after adding/reading to datagrid view. Is there any way to omit the last line or delete it in txt? foreach (DataGridViewRow item in this.DB.Rows) { foreach (DataGridViewCell item2 in item.Cells) { if(item2.Value != null) filewrite.Write(item2.Value.ToString() + " "); } filewrite.WriteLine(""); }

  • Can nullptr be emulated in gcc?

    - by nuzz
    I saw that nullptr was implemented in Visual Studio 2010. I like the concept and want to start using it as soon as possible; however GCC does not support it yet. My code needs to run on both (but doesn't have to compile with other compilers). Is there a way to "emulate" it? Something like: #define nullptr NULL (but obviously that wouldn't work well at all, I was simply showing what I meant).

  • Resharper Warnings with MVVM

    - by Dan Bryant
    As I implement the MVVM pattern with WPF, I'm finding that Resharper is often warning me that certain properties are never used in my ViewModels. The problem is that they are being used, but only by the data binding system. Has anyone else encountered this annoyance and is there a way to help Resharper realize that these properties are, indeed, being used? I am glad, at least, that VS 2010 properly realizes that [Import] tagged members won't "always be null", but hopefully I can fix this issue as well.

  • Should I add try/catch around when casting on an attribute of JSP implicit object?

    - by Michael Mao
    Hi all: Basically what I mean is like this: List<String[]> routes = (List<String[]>)application.getAttribute("routes"); For the above code, it tries to get an attribute named "routes" from the JSP implicit object - application. But as everyone knows, after this line of code, routes may very well contains a null - which means this application hasn't got an attribute named "routes". Is this "casting on null" good programming practice in Java or not? Basically I try to avoid exceptions such as java.io.InvalidCastException I reckon things like this are more as "heritage" of Java 1.4 when generic types were not introduced to this language. So I guess everything stored in application attributes as Objects (Similar to traditional ArrayList). And when you do "downcast", there might be invalid casts. What would you do in this case? Update: Just found that although in the implicit object application I did store a List of String arrays, when I do this : List<double[]> routes = (List<double[]>)application.getAttribute("routes"); It doesn't produce any error... And I felt not comfortable already... And even with this code: out.print(routes.get(0)); It does print out something strange : [Ljava.lang.String;@18b352f Am I printing a "pointer to String"? I can finally get an exception like this: out.print(routes.get(0)[1]); with error : java.lang.ClassCastException: [Ljava.lang.String; Because it was me to add the application attribute, I know which type should it be cast to. I feel this is not "good enough", what if I forget the exact type? I know there are still some cases where this sort of thing would happen, such as in JSP/Servlet when you do casting on session attributes. Is there a better way to do this? Before you say:"OMG, why you don't use Servlets???", I should justify my reason as this: - because my uni sucks, its server can only work with Servlets generated by JSP, and I don't really want to learn how to fix issues like that. look at my previous question on this , and this is uni homework, so I've got no other choice, forget all about war, WEB-INF,etc, but "code everything directly into JSP" - because the professors do that too. :)

  • How to read XML parent node tag value

    - by kaibuki
    HI Guys, I have a java code to read XML nodes, I want to add in the addition and want to read the parent node value also. my XML file sample is below: <breakfast_menu><food id=1><name> Belgian Waffles </name><price> $5.95 </price><description> two of our famous Belgian Waffles with plenty of real maple syrup </description><calories> 650 </calories></food><food id=2><name>Strawberry Belgian waffles</name><price>$7.95</price><description>light Belgian waffles covered with strawberries and whipped cream</description><calories>900</calories></food></breakfast_menu> and my code for parsing xml is : public static String getProductItem(String pid, String item) { try { url = new URL(""); urlConnection = url.openConnection(); } catch (MalformedURLException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { } try { dBuilder = dbFactory.newDocumentBuilder(); } catch (ParserConfigurationException e) { } try { doc = dBuilder.parse(urlConnection.getInputStream()); } catch (SAXException e) { } catch (IOException e) { } doc.getDocumentElement().normalize(); NodeList nList = doc.getElementsByTagName("food"); for (int temp = 0; temp < nList.getLength(); temp++) { Node nNode = nList.item(temp); if (nNode.getNodeType() == Node.ELEMENT_NODE) { Element eElement = (Element) nNode; data = getTagValue(item, eElement); } } doc = null; dBuilder = null; return data; } private static String getTagValue(String sTag, Element eElement) { NodeList nlList = eElement.getElementsByTagName(sTag).item(0) .getChildNodes(); Node nValue = (Node) nlList.item(0); return nValue.getNodeValue(); } What I want to do is to read the "id" value of food, so if if I am searching for a food, it only checks those food nodes, whose id matched the food node id. thanks in advance. cheers.. kai

  • JAXB Web Services: Multiple Object Marshalling

    - by Luke Evans
    I can marshal and unmarshal 1 object with no problems (in netbeans); I need to know how to do this with multiple objects? I can't generate anything but null pointer exceptions when trying to unmarshal 3 objects into an array from XML; so I don't even know if I've marshalled the 3 out correctly. I know the basic idea of declaring the object, then using the jaxbu or jaxbm command, but I'd like to see this working for more than one object. **TLDR: How do I marshal/unmarshal multiple objects of a single class into/out of XML?? THANKS Code I have that marshals one object from XML: try { JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance ("myOffers"); Unmarshaller u = jc.createUnmarshaller (); myOffers.Offer flight = (myOffers.Offer) u.unmarshal( new FileInputStream( "offers.xml" )); System.out.println ("Airline is : " + flight.getAirline()); System.out.println ("Origin is : " + flight.getOrigin()); System.out.println ("Destination is : " + flight.getDestination()); System.out.println ("Seats available : " + flight.getSeats()); System.out.println("Proximity to City Centre is : " + flight.getProximity()); System.out.println("Currency : " + flight.fare.getCurrency()); System.out.println("Value : " + flight.fare.getValue()); } catch (JAXBException e) { System.out.println("Error " + e);} ok so the Xml is: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?> <ns2:offer xmlns:ns2="http://simple.example.com/CInfoXmlDoc"> <Origin>Nottingham</Origin> <Destination>Istanbul</Destination> <Airline>Lufthansa</Airline> <Proximity>10</Proximity> <Seats>260</Seats> <Fare> <Currency>GBP</Currency> <Value>300</Value> </Fare> </ns2:offer> <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?> <ns2:offer xmlns:ns2="http://simple.example.com/CInfoXmlDoc"> <Origin>Birmingham</Origin> <Destination>Cairo</Destination> <Airline>Monarch</Airline> <Proximity>15</Proximity> <Seats>350</Seats> <Fare> <Currency>GBP</Currency> <Value>300</Value> </Fare> </ns2:offer> public static void main(String[] args) throws FileNotFoundException { int i = 0; int arraySize = 2; myOffers.Offer offer[] = new myOffers.Offer[arraySize]; offer[i] = new myOffers.Offer(); offer[i].fare = new myOffers.Offer.Fare(); offer[i].setAirline("Lufthansa"); offer[i].setOrigin("Nottingham"); offer[i].setDestination("Istanbul"); offer[i].setSeats(260); offer[i].setProximity(10); offer[i].fare.currency = "GBP"; offer[i].fare.value = 300; i++; offer[i] = new myOffers.Offer(); offer[i].fare = new myOffers.Offer.Fare(); offer[i].setAirline("Monarch"); offer[i].setOrigin("Birmingham"); offer[i].setDestination("Cairo"); offer[i].setSeats(350); offer[i].setProximity(15); offer[i].fare.currency = "GBP"; offer[i].fare.value = 300; try { int n = 0; FileOutputStream f = new FileOutputStream("offers.xml"); javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext jaxbCtx = javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext.newInstance(offer[n].getClass().getPackage().getName()); javax.xml.bind.Marshaller marshaller = jaxbCtx.createMarshaller(); marshaller.setProperty(javax.xml.bind.Marshaller.JAXB_ENCODING, "UTF-8"); //NOI18N marshaller.setProperty(javax.xml.bind.Marshaller.JAXB_FORMATTED_OUTPUT, Boolean.TRUE); while (n < arraySize) { marshaller.marshal(offer[n], f); n++; } } catch (javax.xml.bind.JAXBException ex) { // XXXTODO Handle exception java.util.logging.Logger.getLogger("global").log(java.util.logging.Level.SEVERE, null, ex); //NOI18N } } Which was generated by my marshal code found here: public static void main(String[] args) throws FileNotFoundException { int i = 0; int arraySize = 2; myOffers.Offer offer[] = new myOffers.Offer[arraySize]; offer[i] = new myOffers.Offer(); offer[i].fare = new myOffers.Offer.Fare(); offer[i].setAirline("Lufthansa"); offer[i].setOrigin("Nottingham"); offer[i].setDestination("Istanbul"); offer[i].setSeats(260); offer[i].setProximity(10); offer[i].fare.currency = "GBP"; offer[i].fare.value = 300; i++; offer[i] = new myOffers.Offer(); offer[i].fare = new myOffers.Offer.Fare(); offer[i].setAirline("Monarch"); offer[i].setOrigin("Birmingham"); offer[i].setDestination("Cairo"); offer[i].setSeats(350); offer[i].setProximity(15); offer[i].fare.currency = "GBP"; offer[i].fare.value = 300; try { int n = 0; FileOutputStream f = new FileOutputStream("offers.xml"); javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext jaxbCtx = javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext.newInstance(offer[n].getClass().getPackage().getName()); javax.xml.bind.Marshaller marshaller = jaxbCtx.createMarshaller(); marshaller.setProperty(javax.xml.bind.Marshaller.JAXB_ENCODING, "UTF-8"); //NOI18N marshaller.setProperty(javax.xml.bind.Marshaller.JAXB_FORMATTED_OUTPUT, Boolean.TRUE); while (n < arraySize) { marshaller.marshal(offer[n], f); n++; } } catch (javax.xml.bind.JAXBException ex) { // XXXTODO Handle exception java.util.logging.Logger.getLogger("global").log(java.util.logging.Level.SEVERE, null, ex); //NOI18N } } Apologies, I'm fining this editor quite appalling but thats another matter.   • Use of text() function when using xPath in dom4j

    - by jlawless
    I have inherited an application that parses xml using dom4j and xPath: The xml being parsed is similar to the following: <cache> <content> <transaction> <page> <widget name="PAGE_ID">WRK_REGISTRATION</widget> <widget name="TRANS_DETAIL_ID">77145</widget> <widget name="GRD_ERRORS" /> </page> <page> <widget name="PAGE_ID">WRK_REGISTRATION</widget> <widget name="TRANS_DETAIL_ID">77147</widget> <widget name="GRD_ERRORS" /> </page> <page> <widget name="PAGE_ID">WRK_PROCESSING</widget> <widget name="TRANS_DETAIL_ID">77152</widget> <widget name="GRD_ERRORS" /> </page> </transaction> </content> </cache> Individual Nodes are being searched using the following: String xPathToGridErrorNode = "//cache/content/transaction/page/widget[@name='PAGE_ID'][text()='WRK_DNA_REGISTRATION']/../widget[@name='TRANS_DETAIL_ID'][text()='77147']/../widget[@name='GRD_ERRORS_TEMP']"; org.dom4j.Element root = null; SAXReader reader = new SAXReader(); Document document = reader.read(new BufferedInputStream(new ByteArrayInputStream(xmlToParse.getBytes()))); root = document.getRootElement(); Node gridNode = root.selectSingleNode(xPathToGridErrorNode); where xmlToParse is a String of xml similar to the excerpt provided above. The code is trying to obtain the GRD_ERROR node for the page with the PAGE_ID and TRANS_DETAIL_ID provided in the xPath. I am seeing an intermittent (~1-2%) failure (returned node is null) of this selectSingleNode request even though the requested node is in the xml being searched. I know there are some gotchas associated with using text()= in xPath and was wondering if there was a better way to format the xPath string for this type of search.

This doesn't seem to work correctly. If anyone could help me out that would be amazing. I've been stuck on this for 3 days.
