• Install multiple PHP environments on OS X Snow Leopard

  I just upgraded my MBP to Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6), which took PHP to 5.3 This is great, except I use my MBP as my development machine and I use a lot of PHP libs and frameworks (namely CakePHP 1.2) which are not compatible at the moment with PHP 5.3. CakePHP in particular does not have a stable version for PHP 5.3 so its not a matter of upgrading the framework (and the production servers are under PHP 5.2 anyway.) Is there a way to install PHP 5.2.9 alongside PHP 5.3 and then using httpd.conf or .htaccess tell Apache which version of PHP to use for a particular directory? Alternatively is there a way to do this with MacPorts? Thanks!

• Windows 7 has trouble installing software with Visual C++ 2005 & 2008

  I have been reinstalling Windows 7 over and over again on an ASUS P5lD2 2Gb Ram 3Ghz P4 because it ultimately loses the contents of "Turn Windows Features On or Off" after I install software like Autocad 2010 & Microsoft Office 2007. I get install errors like 1935 and 1704 on the way tried different fixes at different times (install software in different order to try and isolate problem too). Ultimately I force the software to install after much buggering and end up losing the contents of "TWFOOO" Should I be installing some older items like .net framework 1.1, 2.0 and Visual Studio items like vcredist_x86.exe? getting a bit lost because of compounded problems...

• "Turn Windows Features on or off" when installing .NET 3.5 SP1?

  I am trying to install a program on my Win7 machine and it says that I need to have .NET 2.0 or later installed. Since Win7 comes with .NET pre-installed, I called support and they told me to just re-install .NET since my .NET install is probably corrupted. The program I am trying to install is SNGWiz (http://www.sngwiz.com/). I do not think its installer is borked. However, when I install .NET 3.5 SP1 using the download from the Microsoft .NET web site, I get the following error: "You must use 'Turn Windows features on or off' in the Control Panel to install or configure Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1." I have gone to the Windows Features on/off panel and have turned 3.5 both on and off and have tried to re-install .NET 3.5 SP1 under both situations. But it has failed with the same error. What to do?

  One of our web-projects was hacked. Malefactor changed some template files in project and 1 core file of the web-framework (it's one of the famous php-frameworks). We found all corrupted files by git and reverted them. So now I need to find the weak point. With high probability we can say, that it's not the ftp or ssh password abduction. The support specialist of hosting provider (after logs analysis) said that it was the security hole in our code. My questions: 1) What tools should I use, to review access and error logs of Apache? (Our server distro is Debian). 2) Can you write tips of suspicious lines detection in logs? Maybe tutorials or primers of some useful regexps or techniques? 3) How to separate "normal user behavior" from suspicious in logs. 4) Is there any way to preventing attacks in Apache?   Hi there, Got a heads up from stackoverflow.com to ask the question here. I'm going through the matplotlib documentation and prepared to use the iPython interactive Python shell with ipython -pylab. However I get this: MBP:~ Me$ ipython -pylab -bash: ipython: command not found Did I fail to install iPython? I used easy_install as advised. Any ideas? Update Thought I'd just say that I found the iPython "executable" in /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin after doing a Spotlight search. Still a little confused as to what to do.

• XNA Music mixing real-time

  I've created a "format" to store segments of music (prelude part, repeated part, ending part) and time information for these segments (offset, scored length) so I can mix it up in real-time as if it were one piece of music, while repeating the repeated part (optionally) indefinitely. This way, the segments can store decay where the next segment is played, while the previous one is finished. (I've created a player for this in Java, and used the Clip class.) I wanted this format, so I can provide a finite length music (for a jukebox feature), while I play infinite length music in-games. However, when I wanted to code a class in XNA that manages this "format" I've noticed, that there is no obvious way to play "Songs" simultaneously/overlapped. How can I do this/what is the best practice, not leaving the XNA framework? (I don't want to create infinite play-lists.)

  I am fairly new to linux and am using fedora 14 (64 bit). I have to install the java media framework for one of my projects. In the installation instructions on their website (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/download-142937.html) they use the % symbol. I have done some research and googling and can't find what the significance of % is. Does anyone know? I have been able to find just about every other symbol meaning (., .., #, and more). I need the following rules to apply: Must catch all URLs that do not end with an extension (www.foo.com -- catch | www.foo.com/catch-me -- catch | www.foo.com/dont-catch.me -- don't catch). Must catch all URLs that end with .php* (.php, .php4...) (thwaw are the exceptions to rule #1). All rules must only apply in some directories and not in their subdirectories (/ and /framework so far). The htaccess must send the typed URL in a GET value so I can work with it in PHP. Any mod-rewrite wizard can help me?

• PHP Script causing high CPU

  I have a website which is causing me a major headache. There is one PHP script which is using far to much CPU, this only seem to happen when bots hit the site, I dont want to block all the bots because we need them. I have the the process manager output: Pid Owner Priority CPU % Memory % Command 16943 (Trace) (Kill) specialone 0 99.4 1.0 /usr/bin/php /var/www/specialone/page.php I ran strace -p 16943 on the process but it comes up with nothing. We have 2GB of RAM and the php memory_limit is set to 128M which should be enough. The trouble I have is the PHP code is a Framework and the culprit page.php pulls in a lot of other PHP files so I cant debug the PHP. Is there any way of finding out what the script is doing when its using so much CPU which will help me solve it?

  Is it possible to install Photomatix under wine? I'm running Ubuntu 9.04, and I've tried both the default download and the embedded .net version. The first attempts to install the .net framework 1.1, and fails, while the 2nd appears to install but won't run. After a bit of googling, er, binging, I tried adding the .net 2.0 runtime via winetricks, and now it appears to install OK, but still won't run - either from the wine menu, or from the command line. Is it possible? What do I need to do?

  Hi, I am running a Java application on Mac Leopard & on Mac Mini. My Mac Mini upgraded, it is using Java Version 1.6.0_17 and Mac Leopard have version 1.5.0_13. To run that application on Mac Mini I have to copy JavaApplicationStub from path -"/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub" to my application "Content/Resources/Java". But this application successfully run on Mac Leopard. If I do not copy stub at Mac Mini then I am unable to launch application using app by double click, it shows icon for few second then disappears, so in that case I have to run application with its jar. I want that without copying explicitly JavaApplicationStub, how can I run app with all versions of java. If this possible then what changes I have to made? The info.plist file contain JVMVersion is 1.4+. Thanks!

  we're managing some web sites for our clients on our servers, some running Windows Server 2003 R2 and others running 2008 R2. In Windows Server 2008 R2, we can disable completely .NET framework usage for some application pools, which is great since most of our websites are still using classic ASP. After some issues with classic ASP applications being configured to run as ASP.NET 4 in a CLR 2.0 pool, we wanted to do the same thing in IIS6 - that is, have application pools without any .NET support. Is this a supported scenario in IIS6? Thanks

• Setting up JDK 7 for IntelliJ on the Mac

  I installed the JDK by downloading the dmg from the Oracle website here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7u9-downloads-1859576.html After installation I tried to setup the JDK in IntelliJ but when I set the location to the JDK in the Project Structure-SDKs screen, only a few libraries were loaded and many (including all libraries from Content/Classes/) were missing. How can I add all of the necessary libraries libraries? The install location for the JDK is /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_07.jdk/Contents/Home I've tried looking in /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/ to no avail.

• Using a AWS EC2 Server to host a busy website and I need to set up a loadbalancing

  My company has one EC2 server running on AWS with a MYSQL-DB and Apache on the same instance. This one instance hosts a website built on PHP Zend Framework. The site runs like crap when it starts to get busy with a lot of traffic so I'm looking for some advice on how to set up something that can handle the load better. My first question is should I move the mysql DB on to a separate EC2 instance or perhaps use AWS's RDS service which looks like a nice option. I'm sort of new to some of this but I'm guessing I'll need at least two EC2 instances for serving the website from and some sort of load balancing mechanism to distribute traffic. But maybe not, I'm not sure. Also what are some best practices for how to replicate the data so that they stay in sync on both instances? Okay I know these are a lot of questions. But I don't know where to start so any advice will help.

  I want to install PyQt. This seems kind of complicated to install on OS X. I haven't found any precompiled packages of it (are there any? I would really prefer those). So I downloaded PyQt. And SIP, because it depends on that. Tried the same on PyQt -- and failed of course: /Library/Frameworks/QtCore.framework/Headers/qglobal.h:288:2: error: #error "You are building a 64-bit application, but using a 32-bit version of Qt. Check your build configuration." Ok, so I tried with python configure.py --use-arch=i386. Same error. Any idea?

• Plesk Subdomain folder group and permission problem

  I am working on a dedicated server from some web host. In Plesk 9.5, after creating a subdomain sub.domain.com, with login using main account, plesk automatically creates a folder domain.com/subdomain/sub with user and group of root I want to upload some files (the framework api) in domain.com/subdomain/sub itself instead of domain.com/subdomain/sub/httpdocs but I can't. domain.com/subdomain/sub/httpdocs has user and group of [main account_user] and psaserv respectively Is there a way to modify the user/group of domain.com/subdomain/sub from plesk so that I can upload files inside it? Otherwise, what is the next best solution?

  Doing a little research on the two to figure out which one may better suit my purposes (communications amongst different hardware). How do they fare against one another? Im far from being a specialist and have no idea where I would even start looking for data to compare and contrast. If possible can someone please answer the following questions in regards to each of these. Can they be networked amongst each other? Can they be easily networked over ethernet? What speeds do they transfer at? (Min, Max, Etc.) Reliability? Best framework to build on top of to support the above? Any standard communications programs? Debugging capability? • -ssadd is invalid when setting up Sessions on SQL Server 2005

  I have a dev and QA environment with SQL 2005 EE on dev and SQL 2000 on QA. On QA I run aspnet_regsql –ssadd –sstype t -E in command line and it works fine. I run the same command on dev and it returns "'-ssadd' is invalid". The working directory for both is C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727. I found some info on MSDN that said that SQL Express Edit. required a script to run before -ssadd will work, but this script didn't help me. I'm not sure where to go from here.

• MAMP - Unable to turn off PHP E_STRICT error reporting

  For some reason, MAMP won't allow me to turn off E_STRICT warnings. I've tried everything from changing the value explicitly in php.ini to error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_STRICT) in my file... to explicitly saying php_ini('error_reporting', E_ALL & ~E_STRICT). I'm entirely confused as to why this is happening, and from what I can tell its specific to MAMP. The version of PHP I'm running is 5.2.13 - and before you start telling me I shouldn't be ignoring those warnings, lets just be clear that I am using a framework that requires that E_STRICT be ignored. (lame, I know.)

  Our organization is load testing our application using virtual servers via Hyper-V to see what the user load can be using fair equipment on a single box setup. The developer group questioned the validity of the tests given the normal use of the box by the other virtual machines. IT admins answered that it is an acceptable platform to load test on because it has its own CPUs, memory and disks allocated. Is their answer mostly correct? What hardware factors may be considered bottle necks given the other virtual machines when testing our application? For example, would bus speed be a concern or network IO? The application consists of a windows service written using the 4.0 .NET Framework and SQL Server 2008 R2.

  I'm having trouble with Java on a virtual server, it always gives me the following error: # java Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. I first solved this by using the CACAO virtual machine (of OpenJDK, by putting it first in jvm.cfg), but then I run into problems with my web application (Play! framework based, gives me nasty LinkageErrors). So I cannot use that VM. Instead I'd like to just use the normal server VM and set -Xmx128M by default. How can I do that? Related: this question
