• How to convert .NET WPF application to Windows Forms?

  Hello, We have created a beautifully designed .NET WPF desktop application. We are installing the application with InnoSetup , and if .NET 3.5 is not present, it automatically installs it. However, the package to download .NET 3.5 is huge and we found out that about 30% of users do not finish instalation due to this. The obvious solution is to recode everything into .NET 1.1 with Windows Forms but its a major development which would take few weeks. Also, we would then face dilemma if to support both versions (and use innosetup to choose the right one) or just ditch WPF all together. Is there any easy way how to convert WPF to Windows Forms? Or do we have any alternative options to consider? Thank you!

  I created one desktop project in c#. i want to know about how it could be use for different languages. i created resx file for all the forms like that: select particular form goes to the property window set localiztion true select language in which i want to show in particular language. convert all labels text and other functionality in selected language and build it. after building one another resx file created other than default resx. This process is did for all the form. so now each form having to resx file first is hi.resx for hindi and another is default resx. now my qus is that : how to give language selection option at installation time. and when user choose any language then my application is converted in that language that means particular language resx file set life time whenever user uninstall that application.

• How to implement "drag n drop" user interface on website?

  Hello, I was wondering what would be the best way to implement some kind of "drag n drop" user interface? What i mean is that there would be one main page and every link click (eg. other sections like about, gallery, contact form) would open a new drag n drop element on top of that main page. Something like windows desktop where you can move your application windows around the screen. Would it be best to call different functions with AJAX when a link is clicked? Like "gallery" link would call gallery-function and retrieve dynamically generated contents of that "window" with AJAX call and then just load that stuff on some div? Or would some other type of approach suit better for this? I hope I was able to explain this clearly enough. I'm looking for a proper "design pattern" to implement this. All suggestions are wellcome! :)

• model (3ds) stats & snapshot in linux

  I want to write an app that takes in a model filename via cmd line, create a list of stats (poly count, scaling, as much as possible or maybe the stats that i would like) and to load the model with its textures (with anything else) and draw it from multiple position to save the images as pngs. How would i do this? are there utils i can use to extract data from models? how about drawing the models? my server does not have a desktop or video card, would no video HW be a problem?

• how to make components visible in a transparent JFrame

  I have some JButtons in a JFrame (its layout is null). The background Color of the buttons are set Black. I have made the JFrame Transparent by using this code. AWTUtilities.setWindowOpacity(this, 0); But the problem is it also makes all the buttons transparent as well. I don't want that. I want to see the buttons remaining black but the other portions of the JFrame becoming transparent (so that I can see the desktop background). Please someone help me. Thanks in advance.

• Microsoft MyPhone - .NET access possible?

  I've searched this as much as I can in the time available, but haven't turned anything up. Does anyone know if it is possible to access data backed up from a WinMo device to Microsoft's MyPhone service programatically, without having to restore all the data back to the device? I'm looking at a way of also keeping a local backup of contacts and SMS messages on my desktop machine, but it seems that if there is an API for doing so, Microsoft haven't advertised it at all. I'm hoping that my inability to find any reference on Google is due to my incompetence rather than it not being supported by Microsoft.

• Facebook photo additions showing as separate / individual posts

  When posting additional photos to an existing Facebook album, each individual photo is being displayed on the mobile Facebook view as a separate post. Desktop display still groups them (correctly) into 1 album and shows as a single post. For instance, if I add 20 photos to an album, the people who have liked my page will see 20 individual posts in their feed from my account on their mobile devices. This has been happening for about 2 weeks now as far as I've noticed. My upload process has not changed. I should note that I've noticed this behavior by uploading via Lightroom as well as through the direct Facebook interface. Has anyone else experienced this? Did something change that I am not aware of? Thanks.

• Are there some good and modern alternatives to Javadoc?

  Let's face it: You don't need to be a designer to see that default Javadoc looks ugly. There are some resources on the web which offer re-styled Javadoc. But the default behaviour represents the product and should be as reasonably good-looking. Another problem is the fact that the usability of Javadoc is not up-to-date compared to other similar resources. Especially huge projects are hard to navigate using Firefox's quick search. Practical question: Are there any standalone (desktop) applications which are able to browse existing Javadoc in a more usable way than a browser would? I'm thinking about something like Mono's documentation browser. Theoretical question: Does anyone know, if there some plans to evolve Javadoc, in a somehow-standardized way? • What are my options for streaming for silverlight?

  I would like to implement limited scope streaming (LAN, multicast, even broadcast) where the client is implemented in silverlight. More importantly, I would like to stream from a desktop OS, not a server OS. As a result, I can't use the MS media server, which I believe requires WS2003 or WS2008. Ideally the solution would have some sort of API so I can plug in or provide a custom frame source. If I need to encode my own video, how can I encode using H.264 or another Silverlight supported codec? if I need to implement my own server, where can I find information about how a client starts to receive a stream? thank you! I know, it's a lot of questions, but it basically boils down to "how do I stream from a non-server OS?"

• Why does this VBS scheduled task (to call a URL) not work in Windows Server 2008?

  This same script worked in older server OS environments, and even on my desktop; and allows me to kick off a nightly process on my website's URL. It simply will not execute the URL in my Windows Server 2008 environment. It does not generate any errors, claiming task completion I can pull the same URL up just fine in the server's web browser I have the script running with "highest privileges" I even tried to create a batch file which executes it, so I can explicitly "Run as Administrator" and it still will not execute the URL (but will not generate any errors either). • CSS cross browser compatibility on Ubuntu

  Hello, I'm currently working in web development and my default desktop is Ubuntu and I'm kind of happy with the setup and applications I got going. But I need to test web pages for cross browser compatibility while still being on Ubuntu. I have gone through hell trying to get IE7 or IE8 (with wine) to run on ubuntu and when they finally worked they were very buggy and the graphics/scrolling was insanely slow. Of course there is the option of virtual box but again, too much GBytes just to run a small application! So to all the CSS gurus out there, how can I continue with my beloved Ubuntu and still deliver a good quality (tested) page. Thank you.

  Hi, I'm a desktop application developer, and I plan learning html5, but as it's not released, there is no (almost) published books and no too much infomation from beginners on the web... I fell I should start with html4 and the current web development skills. I think, I should start with html4, css and javascript... but there are so many technologies related that I get lost :D So, what current technologies will be sill used when html5 be released? I mean, what about "jquery" and "ajax"? I know they are javascript under the hood, but will they still make sense in the future? What would you recommend me considering that I have just a little bit of html knowlegde, almost null CSS and completely null in javascript? Thanks in advance.

• Installing Skype on Amazon EC2 instance

  For my application, I need to have Skype working on my Amazon EC2 Windows instance. I got the application installed and am able to log in, however, I can't make a phone call, since I am getting an 'Can't detect your sound card' error. Since I'm trying to inject audio from an audio file into the phone call, I don't need the sound card on the server. Thus, I need a way to bypass this error message. I have tried installing Virtual Audio Cable, which unfortunately didn't work (even though it worked on my desktop machine).

  Hi All I am trying to implement a feature. But I've never had anything to do with "Web Services" before, other than using them. I have a desktop application, and I want that application to be able to sort of "post" some information (i.e. email address, username, user-selected options (just plain text) etc) to an application or "web service" on my ASP.NET web server. • Problem with running a program from flashdrive

  I have a USB drive with two partitions in it, one hidden and one normal. I have an application which swaps the memory and runs the flash application in hidden zone. The problem is that the application works fine on Windows 7 and when run on Win XP, it swaps the partitions but doesn't run the flash applications but just keeps running in the background. I can see it in task manager. But, when I copy the application to desktop and run, it runs with no glitch. I was facing the same problem on Win 7 too, but it was running as required when I ran it using "Run in XP mode" and then I applied a SHIM and is running since then as required. The application is built using VC++ 2008. does anyone know the solution?

• Can a proxy server cache SSL GETs? If not, would response body encryption suffice?

  Can a (||any) proxy server cache content that is requested by a client over https? As the proxy server can't see the querystring, or the http headers, I reckon they can't. I'm considering a desktop application, run by a number of people behind their companies proxy. This application may access services across the internet and I'd like to take advantage of the in-built internet caching infrastructure for 'reads'. If the caching proxy servers can't cache SSL delivered content, would simply encrypting the content of a response be a viable option? I am considering all GET requests that we wish to be cachable be requested over http with the body encrypted using asymmetric encryption, where each client has the decryption key. Anytime we wish to perform a GET that is not cachable, or a POST operation, it will be performed over SSL.

• Application demands elevated privs to run on win7 but not vista

  I have a simple app that I just tried the installer (Innosetup) on win7(32-bit). After I install it the program icon on the desktop gets that shield on it that notifies the user that the app demands elevated privileges. I thought it was something wrong with the installer and made on using NSIS instead, same problem. Does anyone know why it does that on this computer but not on xp-32, win7-64 bit or Vista 64-bit? If I allow the app to run (Answers yes to the system prompt) it crashes with only the error " has encountered an error. Windows is looking for a solution" and then closes.

• How to shutdown local tomcat server when closing browser window?

  Hi, I hava a web app running on a local tomcat server. When the user starts the app (via desktop shortcut) the server starts and the app is opened in a browser window. But when the user just clicks on the close button to stop the application the server is still running in the background - that's annoying. I tried to utilize the "unonload" and "onbeforeunload" events from javascript but unfortunately these events are also fired on some other requests in the app. So I can't use them, except I do a lot of refactoring. Does anyone have an idea for a possible solution? Btw, what I find interesting is the behaviour of Visual Studio when debugging a web application. When I close the browser window Visual Studio also gets a trigger to stop debug mode. So it seems it somehow notices the close event of the browser window, which would be exactly what I need. • what is a fast way to output h5py dataset to text?

  I am using the h5py python package to read files in HDF5 format. (e.g. somefile.h5) I would like to write the contents of a dataset to a text file. For example, I would like to create a text file with the following contents: 1,20,31,75,142,324,78,12,3,90,8,21,1 I am able to access the dataset in python using this code: import h5py f = h5py.File('/Users/Me/Desktop/thefile.h5', 'r') group = f['/level1/level2/level3'] dset = group['dsetname'] My naive approach is too slow, because my dataset has over 20000 entries: # write all values to file for index in range(len(dset)): # do not add comma after last value if index == len(dset)-1: txtfile.write(repr(dset[index])) else: txtfile.write(repr(dset[index])+',') txtfile.close() return None Is there a faster way to write this to a file? Perhaps I could convert the dataset into a NumPy array or even a Python list, and then use some file-writing tool? • Splitting a string with variable number of spaces VBA

  I have a file with a bunch of number in columns. These numbers are separated by variable number of spaces. I want to skip the first line and get all the other lines and separte each number on the line. Finally, I want to write each number on Excel. I've been able to get the lines and write them on Excel but I can't separate each number (I'm getting the whole line as one string). Does any body know how to split a string that has a variable number of spaces? Here is my code.   I'm trying to create an online application for a python function i have created. in my script, i input the path of my file for the computer (input_path = '/users/user/desktop/input.txt') but i'm not sure how to go about this using Google App Engine . I have the choice between 3 templates: flask, django, and bottle . I really do believe this question is relevant for people transitioning from scripts to web-based applications. Do I need to incorporate GUI stuff from Tkinter or something? There has to be a way to simply select a file to use for the input path in an interactive way using python scripts

  I've decided to get some experience working on some project this summer. Due to local demand on market I would prefer to learn Java (Standard and Enterprise Editions). But I can't even to conjecture what kind of project to do. Recently I had some ideas about C. With C I could to contribute to huge Linux projects. I don't mean that my work will be surely commited. I could get the code and practice with it. But C it's not right thing to get good job in my area. In case of JavaSE there is a chance to develop some desktop applications.
