• Intermittent freeze of Windows 7 x64 on laptop

  I have Lenovo W500, 8GB RAM, 250GB Crucial SSD running Windows 7 x64 using boot-to-vhd. Lately I started to experience some random freezes for 5-30 seconds. And when I say "freeze" I mean it; it's like a time machine - no input taken, nothing is written anywhere, no log, no disk activity. And then suddenly machine would wake up and continue as if nothing happened. I do suspect that it's one of the drivers but I don't see any updates in the log lately except for .NET 4 framework and Adobe Reader. Out of new or updated software I can only recall Skype and IE9 but freezes started to occur definitely before IE install. Regular software includes but not limited to: Office 2010, VMWare Workstation, IE9, Chrome, Skype, Seesmic/TweeterDeck, Live Writer. How should I approach the "hunting season" to find our the culprit? Any tools or packages that could help me to identify the component, program, driver that causes the freeze? Cheers

  I'm writing a small C# application that will use Internet Explorer to interact with a couple a websites, with help from WatiN. However, it will also require from time to time to use a proxy. I've came across Programmatically Set Browser Proxy Settings in C#, but this only enables me to enter a proxy address, and I also need to enter a Proxy username and password. How can I do that? Note: It doesn't matter if a solution changes the entire system Internet settings. However, I would prefer to change only IE proxy settings (for any connection). The solution has to work with IE8 and Windows XP SP3 or higher. I'd like to have the possibility to read the Proxy settings first, so that later I can undo my changes. EDIT With the help of the Windows Registry accessible through Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey, i was able to apply a proxy something like this: RegistryKey registry = Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey("Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Internet Settings", true); registry.SetValue("ProxyEnable", 1); registry.SetValue("ProxyServer", "127.0.0.1:8080"); But how can i specify a username and a password to login at the proxy server?   In our office we have many PCs, all of them have static IP addresses. We had a problem with one server with ip 192.168.1.10 dropping off the network occasionally. I unplugged the network cable from the server and from pinged 192.168.1.10 from another host and there was a response. I searched all PCs to see if any has such ip but i didn't found a one. I changed the server ip to fix the problem, but I still find this rogue device using 192.168.1.10 on the network -- how can I figure out what it is? Could it be the ip of virtual machine on someone's PC?

• Meetings Disappearing from Outlook 2010 Public Calendar

  We are experiencing a frustrating issue with our Public Calendars in Outlook 2010. Meetings that have been scheduled months in advance are missing, but will then reappear. If user A logs in @ 9:30 and goes to the calendar, certain meetings will be missing. 15 Minutes later, when user B logs in, the meetings are there. It is not tied to the actual user- I have seen this issue occur with the order of logging in reversed. These are with meetings that were posted to the calender months ago, so it should not be an issue of an item being updated. We have not upgraded our Exchange environment (still running on 2003), but this is a new machine, running Windows 7 Professional, on a domain, running office 2010. Are there any quirks or settings that I am missing or not aware of?

  I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro with HyperV. I have several VMs for development, all of them connected with host via Internal adapter using network addresses: 192.168.10.0/24 Where: 192.168.10.1 is my host's Hyper-V internal NIC address. When I'm not in my office I use 3G usb dongle an dialup VPN connection. I would like to route traffic from all existing and future VMs through the VPN. In best scenario traffic would be routed only partially to the local company network addresses 10.1.1.0/24 I don't want to use sharing because I'm switching between WiFi, USB 3G dongle and VPN. Moving to other virtualization is also not an option for me.

As far as I can tell, the paging is working, but I can't get the data to be certain. The database is a Microsoft Access database. • What's the strategy to implement a "knowledge base" in my company. [closed]

  In my current work we think we can get benefit from having a knowledge base, so the next time someone has a question/problem etc, that base can be consulted and an answer will show up. Also, it will reduce the risk from having people leaving the company with the knowledge and we would have to start all over again. My question is, what strategy can we follow to implement/buy/get/build/etc this knowledge base? Are there software ready for this? Would it be better to have something build by ourselves ( we have some programmers ) This is an small company ( < 30 ) and the base should be accessible from outside the office ( when the employees are with the customer etc.) so I guess a webapp is in order.

• Run Logstalgia on Remote Global Apache Log On a WHM System

  I work for a small web development shop. We have a dedicated Linux server running WHM. For fun we want to run Logstalgia on a machine in our office. We'd really like it to display information about all the traffic on our server. Logstalgia use Apache's access logs to generate its visuals, the problem I have is that by default WHM does not have an access log for all sites combined. How can I safely configure our server to output a combined/global Apache access log in a place accessible by a non-root SSH user? I am also concerned that this file could get quite large so I think I'd also need to know how to have it automatically shed old information. To make things more interesting I'm a programmer not a sys admin so not everything is immediately obvious to me.

  Would like to have connectivity between azure virtual machines and on LAN users. My current network has a Cisco ISA550 connected to the WAN (one Ethernet cable into the office the fiber transceiver is on a different floor)and any public servers can be one-to one NAT-ed to have a public and private IP. What is the best way to get a reliable connection. Between end users and the cloud? I want to know the preferred on site endpoint. Do the azure vm's have to have a local ip in the LAN subnet? (Right now 10.10.0.0/20 or 255.255.240.0 to give room if this is the case). If in purchased an asa550 would I put it behind or in front of the isa550. Would it be ahead or peer with the users switches? What is the best way to get a reliable connection. Between end users and the cloud servers?

  i have a patch panel and hardwiring already setup in my office. The patch panel is 24-port and all the ports are engaged. All my switch ports are engaged. Now, I have a printer connected to a wall point (RJ45) which I want to shift to a new room where there is no LAN setup. I want to have two RJ45 wall plugs in the new room so that I can connect one RJ45 port to have my LAN in the new room and the other RJ45 wall port I want to use for my printer. There is no option other than LAN (no wireless). Please help me and tell me how do I get the two RJ45 wall plate plugs in the new room up and keep my LAN running. It is a little urgent for me. Please help.

• Two identical fiber optic broadband lines working as one

  I have been trying to find an answer to this, but all I can find is hobbyists trying to connect their Linksys devices to get some magic out of them. I am looking for a way I could combine two 100Mbit fiber optic lines into a single connection for our office. I assume it involves some Cisco learning or something similar. Do I need to configure some big router to load-balance the NATing in some way? I assume that many of you have done something similar and hope someone could share their knowledge or at least provide me some tips on how to do this.

  The company recently upgraded to Exchange 2007. Since the upgrade users who are still on Outlook 2003 (SP3) get the following error for some meeting requests: You cannot respond to a meeting without an organizer. You must add an Organizer field to the item. The item has an organizer field filled in. Exchange is 2007 with SP1 MS Office (incl Outlook) is 2003 with SP3 Some users are using iPhones to accept / reject meetings. The iPhones never get an error like this. There are no delegates for the user attempting to accept or reject the meeting. Sometimes the meeting was previously accepted, sometimes not. We have not detected a pattern in the meeting requests that trigger the issue. I've found a few people asking the same question on other websites but no answers. Experts Exchange claims to have an answer but from looking at the discussion at the bottom of the page I'm pretty sure they don't.

• Automation Error upon running VBA script in Excel

  Hi guys, I'm getting an Automation error upon running VBA code in Excel 2007. I'm attempting to connect to a remote SQL Server DB and load data to from Excel to SQL Server. The error I get is, "Run-time error '-2147217843(80040e4d)': Automation error". I checked out the MSDN site and it suggested that this may be due to a bug associated with the sqloledb provider and one way to mitigate this is to use ODBC. Well I changed the connection string to reflect ODBC provider and associated parameters and I'm still getting the same error. • Using Directives, Namespace and Assembly Reference - all jumbled up with StyleCop!

  I like to adhere to StyleCop's formatting rules to make code nice and clear, but I've recently had a problem with one of its warnings: All using directives must be placed inside of the namespace. My problem is that I have using directives, an assembly reference (for mocking file deletion), and a namespace to juggle in one of my test classes: using System; using System.IO; using Microsoft.Moles.Framework; using Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting; [assembly: MoledType(typeof(System.IO.File))] namespace MyNamespace { //Some Code } The above allows tests to be run fine - but StyleCop complains about the using directives not being inside the namespace. Putting the usings inside the namespace gives the error that "MoledType" is not recognised. Putting both the usings and the assembly reference inside the namespace gives the error 'assembly' is not a valid attribute location for this declaration. Valid attribute locations for this declaration are 'type'. All attributes in this block will be ignored. It seems I've tried every layout I can but to no avail - either the solution won't build, the mocking won't work or StyleCop complains! Does anyone know a way to set these out so that everything's happy? Or am I going to have to ignore the StyleCop warning in this case?

I have worked with computers every day since I was in elementary school (commodore 64, windows 3.1 etc.). I have IT bachelors in administrative management (so basically nothing good). I am getting another bachelor's in server admin, including about 5 certifications. I am the IT go to gal at every position usually because I know more than the IT people and have better people skills. My job history is random: office admin, hair braider, disney ride operator, camp counselor etc. I found a job I want its a entry level specialist (server) position. What do I put on a resume?

• How to keep Flash secured with EMET?

  I use EMET to secure a number of applications on my computer - web browsers, Office suite applications, PDF readers, as well as Adobe Flash. Overall it's working great, except that the Flash executables contain the version number in the file name, so every time there's an update, the file names change and I have to remember to re-add them manually to EMET. Is there a way to streamline this process? EMET does support wildcards, but only in the path itself, not the file name, so something like %windir%\system32\Macromed\Flash\*.exe wouldn't work. Is there any other way to add a whole folder to EMET so that any new executables in that folder are automatically secured?

  Hello all, My priest has 3 computers, Windows 3.1, Windows 98 and Windows XP. Recently his power supply blew out on his Windows 3.1 computer and he needs to get to the data on the hard drive. He's looking into imaging the hard drive and setting it up as a VM, which might be a bit much for him. Ignoring getting the data off the hard drive as a separate problem, are there any programs out there that can read files from PFS First Choice and Word Perfect 5. He already has Microsoft Office so solutions involving that are preferable. If he can install the software on his Windows XP or 98 computer, that would be helpful too. Thank you for your help

• how to print labels from UPS printer on UPS website

  I have several computers, in my office, that have UPS printers attached to them. On most of these computers if you go to ups.com, login, and print a shipping label out, it prints out just fine. The website somehow selects the appropriate printer and prints to it. It doesn't present a prompt, asking you to select the printer, the number of pages, etc - it just prints it. Only problem: there's one computer on which it's not doing this and I don't know why. I can see the printer in Printers and Faxes and can print out test pages from the Properties tab, so the printer clearly works - it just isn't printing out from UPS's website. Any ideas?

• mime-attachment incompatibility on forwarded messages from android to an iphone

  A couple of guys got the evo android in the office. I got an iphone. When I receive a forwarded email from one of those phones, the forwarded piece comes as a mime-attachment that the iphone cannot open. I also tried this with a motorola droid and got the same result. I am not sure if the issue is the android sending the message on the wrong format or the iphone not being able to understand a mime type that it should... Has anyone experienced this, and, most importantly, found a fix/workaround? Thanks.

• Dialog box keeps asking for password

  I am running Windows 7, Outlook 2007 (Office 2007 pro) and I'm connecting to our Exchange Server 2007 which is part of Small Business Server 2008. Outlook 2007 on one client keeps asking for the password to the remote access URL. If I simply click cancel it's OK for a few minutes. Entering the password and clicking the save PW box does no good. Sometimes clicking cancel results in another dilog box asking the same thing and I may have to click cancel several times to get it to go away for a while. Occasionally Outlook may actually go into a mode where it says it needs the password typed so I click the link which brings the dialog back but simply clicking cancel will make Outlook connect again. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

When the interent and html was new, one could find examples of how to build a website on a few trusted web sites. The same web sites might not be the best choice for looking for examples for Silverlight, I guess. What are the best web sites where you can look at examples -- and most importantly -- look at the source code of some examples of Silverlight? Back when MFC existed as a option that programmers might use to develop windows applications, a coder could look at a huge list of sample code and step through that code to find something that somewhat did what he was looking for and use that example code to build his own app. Is there anything like that for Silverlight? I guess that will keep me busy for a while. Are there other sites? There are video instructions on MSDN's Channel9: http://channel9.msdn.com/tags/curso-silverlight-4/ Are there any videos in English? The video instructions look very good. Where is the links to the English versions? I was suggested this site for learning silverlight: http://channel9.msdn.com/learn/courses/Silverlight4/ This online documentation mentions "The Silverlight 4 Tools for Visual Studio 2010" which "is an add-on for Visual Studio 2010 that provides tooling for Microsoft Silverlight 4 and WCF RIA Services. It can be installed on top of either Visual Studio 2010 or Visual Web Developer 2010 Express" where can I find this? Is it shipped with Visual Studio 2010?
