I want to stop user to submit if the city is not selected.

  • ASP.NET Web Application: use 1 or multiple virtual directories

    I am working on a (largish) internal web application which has multiple modules (security, execution, features, reports, etc.). All the pages in the app share navigation, CSS, JS, controls, etc. I want to make a single "Web Application" project, which includes all the pages for the app, then references various projects which will have the database and business logic in them. However, some of the people on the project want to have separate projects for the pages of each module. To make this more clear, this is what I'm advocating to be the projects. /WebInterface* /SecurityLib /ExecutionLib etc... And here is what they are advocating: /SecurityInterface* /SecutiryLib /ExecutionInterface* /ExecutionLib etc... *project will be published to a virtual directory of IIS Basically What I'm looking for is the advantages of both approaches. Here is what I can think of so far: Single Virtual Directory Pros Modules can share a single MasterPage Modules can share UserControls (this will be common) Links to other modules are within the same Virtual directory, and thus don't need to be fully qualified. Less chance of having incompatible module versions together. Multiple Virtual Directories Pros Can publish a new version of a single module without disrupting other modules Module is more compartmentalized. Less likely that changes will break other modules. I don't buy those arguments though. First, using load balanced servers (which we will have) we should be able to publish new versions of the project with zero downtime assuming there are no breaking database changes. Second, If something "breaks" another module, then there is either an improper dependency or the break will show up eventually in the other module, when the developers copy over the latest version of the UserControl, MasterPage or dll. As a point of reference, there are about 10 developers on the project for about 50% of their time. The initial development will be about 9 months.

    Your typical "It doesn't work" freak out going on over here. Any direction would help. I have a login control on my master page and I'm trying to only display it using jquery fancybox and then redirect the user once they are logged in. But any buttons or controls that should do "something" when pressed when I put inside the fancy box are not responding. If I keep the div visible and then use the control not using fancybox I get the expected result. What are my options?

    Hi there, I want to improve the program so it has a proper constructor but also works with the models environment of MVC. I currently have: public void recordDocument(int order_id, string filename, string physical_path, string slug, int bytes) { ArchiveDocument doc = new ArchiveDocument(); doc.order_id = order_id; doc.filename = filename; doc.physical_path = physical_path; doc.slug = slug; doc.bytes = bytes; db.ArchiveDocuments.InsertOnSubmit(doc); } This obviously should be a constructor and should change to the leaner: public void recordDocument(ArchiveDocument doc) { db.ArchiveDocuments.InsertOnSubmit(doc); } with a get & set somewhere else - not sure of the syntax - do I create a partial class? so: creating in the somewhere repository - ArchiveDocument doc = new ArchiveDocument(order_id, idTaggedFilename, physical_path, slug, bytes); and then: namespace ordering.Models { public partial class ArchiveDocument { int order_id, string filename, string physical_path, string slug, int bytes; public archiveDocument(int order_id, string filename, string physical_path, string slug, int bytes){ this.order_id = order_id; etc } } How should I alter the code?

"Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerTimeoutException: The server request timed out."     Hi, Im loading an entity 'Member' from its id in route data. [ListItemsForMembershipType(true)] public ActionResult Edit(Member someMember) {...} The attribute on the action loads the membership type list items for a dropdown box and sticks it in viewdata. This is fine for add forms, and search forms (it gets all active items) but I need the attribute to execute BASED ON THE VALUE someMember.MembershipTypeId, because its current value must always be present when loading the item (i.e. all active items, plus the one from the loaded record). So the question is, what is the standard pattern for this? How can my attribute accept the value or should I be loading the viewdata for the drop down in a controller supertype or during model binding or something else? It is in an attribute now because the code to set the viewdata would otherwise be duplicated in each usage in each action.

Now, I want to convert all this data into columnar database. That is all the columns from this table will be transfer into 3 tables each. Consider below table:- ID Product 1 XYZ 2 ABC 3 ABC Now, I want to convert the Product column i.e. dimension into 3 tables. dim_product_table:- ID Product 1 XYZ 2 ABC dim_product_fmk(fact map by key):- Where we will store key-value pair of Key Row 1 1 1 2 2 3 dim_product_fmr(fact map by row):- The above table will be reversed.   • Combining two .png images into one image using .NET

    I have two (actually many) .png images in my application. Both have transparent areas here and there. I want, in my application, to take both images, combine them, and display the result in a picture box. Later I want to save the result through a button. So far I managed to find the two images and combine them, but it seems the transparency thing won't work. I mean, if you put one image over another, only the top image is visible as the result because, apparently, the image's background is a plain white box. Which is not.     I'm fairly sure this is possible, but what I want to do is have a generic method where I can pass in an object along with a Expression that will tell the method which Property to use in it's logic. Can anyone get me started on the syntax for something like this?     I'm writing an application that uses a SQL Server 2005 database. In the connection string i'm specifying the mdf file like this: connstr = @"Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS; AttachDbFilename=" + fileLocation + "; Integrated Security=True; User Instance=True"; When i execute the code: public static void forceConnection() { try { conn = new SqlConnection(connstr); conn.Open(); } catch (Exception e) { MessageBox.Show(e.Message, "Erro", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error); } finally { if(conn != null) conn.Close(); } } I receive an exception: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) This code works on XP but not in Vista.. I tryed run Visual Studio in admin mode and moved the mdf file to "user data" folders but the error persists.. Any help? Thanks!

  • asp.net mvc route clashing with physical path in IIS7

    I'm messing about with controller organisation and I've hit a problem. If I have the following physical structure /Home/HomeController.cs /Home/Index.aspx /Home/About.aspx and I request the URI: /Home/Index I get a 403 Directory Listing Denied :( (im using a custom IControllerFactory and IViewEngine to look in this non-default path) Why is this happening? (I know the 403 is because its hitting the /Home folder, but why is it hitting the folder?) Why doesn't the UrlRoutingModule rewrite the route and let the controller pick up the request? Application_BeginRequest fires, but then it seems to pass control back to IIS to try and serve from the filesystem. Is it the UrlRoutingModule that defaults to a physical path if it exists before rewriting? Is there a way to make this work? N.B. Please don't suggest relocating my controllers etc. I know this is an obvious option, but that isn't the question ;) Using IIS7 In Integrated Mode Thanks
