I am new at Amazon Cloud technologies. I ve set up an Amazon Linux instance created my keys and assigned elastic IP. Also, I opened all TCP, UDP, ICMP ports(ok, it's very dangerous, but I am using it for test purposes). I ve also installed Apache server and enabled it. But still cant ping or access my instance via IP. Any ideas?
EDIT:
Please see a screenshot of the security groups settings. All ports are open...

If, for example, Windows Explorer is in the first position of the taskbar and there are multiple explorer windows open, holding START and pressing 1 will cycle through the available windows and display an x on the top-right of the selected item that can be clicked to close the window.
Is there a keyboard shortcut to close the selected window while still keeping the window list around (moving to the next item)?
If I can't ssh as root to each of my servers how can I make modifications in an efficient way?
I am not allowed to setup ssh keys or open the sudoers file with NOPASSWD. I can't install puppet or spacewalk.
Sometimes when I try to include a sudo command in a script I get the error "no tty present." Has anyone worked in an environment like this?
Access to shared calendar's is extremelly slow.
(It takes upwards of 30 seconds to open some.)
What are some methods of optimizing or improving this situation?
(The sharing of calendar's is required so secretaries and others can do their jobs.)
We run Outlook 2003/Exchange 2003.
I need to open a specific port on my mac client (because when I try to connect from server it says "target machine actively refused it ").My problem though is I cannot find a way to add a specific port on my latest Mac OS.
I go to system pref-securtiy &privacy-firewall- turn it on (FWIW
connection didnt work when I had turned it off)-Firewall options-"+"
This gives me an option to add some application but not a port .Can someone point me to the right place to add the port?
Givens:
disk is cheap, and there's plenty lying around on various computers around the corporate intranet
redundant contiguous large storage volumes are expensive
Problem:
It would be fantastic to have a single entry point (drive letter, network path) that presents all this space as one contiguous filesystem, effectively abstracting the disk and network architecture from the paths presented to users.
Does anyone know how to implement such a solution? I'm open to Windows and non-windows solutions, free and proprietary.
Whenever I open a message in Outlook 2010 I have the following bar at the bottom:
How can I turn this off? I've search through help and everything and it's entirely unclear. I am running on Windows Server 2008 in case that makes any kind of difference.
If i have, say, youtube tab opened and if a click on some of the related videos (while it's still playing) firefox terminates. The same if I open youtube on one tab and myspace on another - firefox just shuts down.
I want to know why this happens, is it a bug and how can i fix it ?
Thank you in advance.
I installed oracle in my own machine from about two years, but I stopped some oracle services from about seven months. Now I tried to start them again and open the oracle db but I couldn't make a connection, the OracleDBConsoleORCL service cannot be started although it was not one of the services that I stopped, it was starting automatically!
I tried to make it manually started and start it again but the problem didn't be solved. Could someone help me?
I'm trying to learn how to use screen, in unix so that I don't have to open up several ssh connections and terminal windows just because I want to do more than one thing at the same time on a machine. I have found the split command quite useful, but I have a problem I can't seem to figure out of... how do I unsplit??
I can split split using ^A S and switch between them using ^A ^I, but can't figure out how to remove a split...
When adding a new bookmark with Ctrl+D in Firefox, it used to ask me where to put it in terms of bookmark directory structure.
However, recently it's not even bothering to ask me and put the bookmark under the bookmark menu by default.
Then I always need to open the bookmark menu and drag & drop to the right sub folder, which is quite tedious.
Is there any way to make Firefox ask me where to put the bookmark everytime I add one?
Is it possible to add a send/receive action to the Outlook 2007 system tray right-click context menu? It's a little annoying to have to open the whole interface just to run this simple action manually. I have searched for an answer, but could only find two other unanswered questions.
If there's no particular answer as of yet, would it make more sense to explore making a plug-in like this one to keep running in the systray when closed, or to look for a registry hack, or something else entirely?
I read that somewhere but i dont know to which edition it belongs and how it works.
Is this the meaning that if i open the eleventh Word-document from a Fileserver i get an error-message?
How can i count the used network smb-connections?
Additional question: What about Win-7?
I need IPTables , like everyone else, but I don't use it enough to really keep my knowledge complete and fresh.
The setup utility in centos is too basic (doesn't seem to allow me to open up custom ports, just standard ones).
Suggestions of a tool or utility to simply iptables management?
I looked over APF (http://www.rfxn.com/projects/advanced-policy-firewall/). Is that something that is useful?
thanks!
I currently have the Buttons on other taskbars set so Never combine So I can have multiple Chrome windows open and will see multiple Chromes on the taskbar. Now the problem is that sometimes I don't really know which one I'm currently looking at.
Is there a way to have the active application take on a different color or some other indication that it's the active window.
To clarify I don't need the title bar of the application to be a different color, just the "button" that shows up on the taskbar
This is for windows 8
I've been a fan of enso http://www.humanized.com/enso/ for quite a while, but for the past several years I've had problems with it crashing, I've never been able to get it work reliably with Windows 7. Has anyone had any luck with this? I've tried the open source edition but it hasn't been any better (when I can get it to install at all) and development is moving pretty slowly. Has anyone had any luck getting enso to work reliably on Vista or 7?
XP SP3
I have my system set up so that I do not need to double click on an item to open it. However, I find that items are selected when I move over them swiftly. This is a problem when I want to save a file and inadvertently pass over another file name. It immediately gets selected.
Is there a way to delay this selection for, say, a second so that they are not selected so quickly?
Thanks.
Regards,
Is there a native way to get a simple HTML / XML & XSD output for Apache VHost and Directives?
On console I write:
apachectl -S
If there is no native one, is there an (open) Script / Tool (php, perl, etc.) managing this.
I'm NOT looking for server management but just for a "server config overview" which might be (iframe) included in a wiki page for references on different development machines.
So, let's say I run sudo apt-get upgrade on my Lucid Lynx and it upgrades a couple of packages I'm interested in. Is there a command to run that will open some kind of info or manual that tells me what changes were made in this new version of the package?
For instance, if run the apt-get upgrade and it installs a new version of empathy. Do I have to go over to their site to review the changes made in this version, or is there a quicker command line way?
I have some applications that I open from time to time, and I always get this UAC message with
Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?
Is there a way I can mark a single program so that won't ask me that again? Like, I think it is good that it asks me the first time, but some programs I do launch more often, and I am ok with them making changes and don't want to be asked all the time.
I want to improve security of my Apache webserver.
Open:
/etc/apache2/conf.d/security
Edit:
ServerTokens Prod
ServerSignature Off
Reload/Restart:
/etc/init.d/apache2 reload
/etc/init.d/apache2 restart
The values Prod and Off should be fine, but I get these errors:
ServerTokens takes one argument, Determine tokens displayed in the Server: header - Min(imal), OS or Full
Action 'configtest' failed.
ServerSignature takes one argument, En-/disable server signature (on|off|email)
Action 'configtest' failed.
Where do I find Apache's configtest declaration, so I can tell it to accept Prod and Off?
How do I go about performing a full, bare metal disaster recovery from BRU Server backups?
I have backed up the entire C:\ (including Windows, Program Files etc) of a test machine (using Open File Manager) and want to restore this to a new server.
What is the procedure I need to go through to restore to a clean server using my backup? How does this work with various services such as DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, SQL Server, Windows Registry etc?
Thanks in advance.
On my Windows 7 64bit Pro install, for no apparent reasons, all menus suddenly align with their right side lined up with the menu item, rather than the traditional left side. This happens regardless of what may be crowding the screen or menus. If I maximize the app, all the first sets of menu items will open with their menu slammed against the left side of the screen.
Anyone have any idea what this might be or how I can revert to default behavior?
I have tried quite a few things now. Nothing seems to work. The tutorial I found are outdated. And its hard to actually find out how gnome actually loads this icon. I have a special theme. I changed the icon in the theme package. Did not work. Open for any hints.
