• How to call a new thread from button click

  Hi, I'm trying to call a thread on a button click (btn_more) but i cant get it right. The thread is to get some data and update the images. The problem i have is if i only update 4 or 5 images then it works fine. But if i load more than 5 images i will get a force close. At times when the internet is slow I will face the same problem too. Can please help me to solve this problem or provide me some guidance? • Resize a UITableView to accomodate a translucent header before it becomes visible

  I have a UITableView inside a UINavigationController. The navigation controller uses a translucent navigation bar--as a result, my table view is displayed behind the navigation bar and it's height includes the height of the navigation bar. However, I want the table view to appear below the navigation bar (as it would if it were not translucent). I'm working in MonoTouch, but I think the principles are language independent. Here's the code I'm using to resize the UITableView frame: RectangleF rect = tableView.Frame; tableView.Frame = new RectangleF (rect.Left, rect.Top + 44, rect.Width, rect.Height - 44); tableView.ContentInset = new UIEdgeInsets (0, 0, 0, 0); This works fine if I place it in the viewDidAppear method, but will not work in the viewWillAppear method. In the viewDidAppear method, however I can see the resize occurring briefly in the form of a flicker. I want to do the resize before the frame appears. But if I put this code in viewWillAppear or viewDidLoad, it has no effect. Thanks in advance for any help!

• Non RBAC User Roles and Permissions System: checking the user's City

  We are currently designing a User Roles and Permissions System in our web application (ASP.NET), and it seems that we have several cases that do no fit within the classical Role-Based Access Control (RBAC). I will post several questions, each devoted to a particular case, this being the first post. We have the following case: not to allow a user view a certain page if the user lives in a particular city. This is a simple case that is coded in the following way: if (User.City == “Moscow”) // Allow the user to view the page. else // Do not allow the user to view this page. Though this case is very simple and straightforward, it has nothing to do with the RBAC. On StackOverflow, someone called this an Attribute-based Access Control. Under the classical RBAC, it seems that this case should be designed like this: introduce a permission “City where the person lives”, this permission will have a property City. Then create a role, add a permission of type “City = Moscow” to it and the assign the role to the user. Looks extremely cumbersome. The question is whether it is acceptable to introduce such non-RBAC approaches to our permissions system – does that break the design or not? This might seem a primitive question, but we found that most applications use pure RBAC, and we started to think that we might be doing something wrong. Thank you.

• CodeIgniter's Scaffolding and Helper Functions Not Working

  Hi, I'm following CodeIgniter's tutorial "Create a blog in 20 minutes" and I am having trouble getting the helper, anchor and Scaffolding functions to work. I can't seem to create links on my HTML page using the helper and anchor functions. I put $this->load->helper('url'); $this->load->helper('form'); in the constructor under parent::Controller(); and <p>&lt;?php anchor('blog/comments','Comments'); ?&gt;</p> within the foreach loop as specified in the tutorial. But Im not getting the links to appear. Secondly, I keep getting a 404 Page Not Found error whenever I try to access CodeIgniter's Scaffolding page in my browser, like so: localhost/codeignitor/index.php/blog/scaffolding/mysecretword I can access localhost/codeignitor/index.php/blog just fine. I followed CodeIgnitor's instructions in their "Create a blog in 20 minutes" by storing my database settings in the database.php file; and automatically connecting to the database by inserting "database" in the core array of the autoload.php; and I've added both parent::Controller(); and $this->load->scaffolding('myTableName') to blog's constructor. It still gives me this 404. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks in advance?

• SQL deadlock on delete then bulk insert

  I have an issue with a deadlock in SQL Server that I haven't been able to resolve. Basically I have a large number of concurrent connections (from many machines) that are executing transactions where they first delete a range of entries and then re-insert entries within the same range with a bulk insert. Essentially, the transaction looks like this BEGIN TRANSACTION T1 DELETE FROM [TableName] WITH( XLOCK HOLDLOCK ) WHERE [Id]=@Id AND [SubId]=@SubId INSERT BULK [TableName] ( [Id] Int , [SubId] Int , [Text] VarChar(max) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS ) WITH(CHECK_CONSTRAINTS, FIRE_TRIGGERS) COMMIT TRANSACTION T1 The bulk insert only inserts items matching the Id and SubId of the deletion in the same transaction. Furthermore, these Id and SubId entries should never overlap. When I have enough concurrent transaction of this form, I start to see a significant number of deadlocks between these statements. I added the locking hints XLOCK HOLDLOCK to attempt to deal with the issue, but they don't seem to be helpling. The canonical deadlock graph for this error shows: Connection 1: Holds RangeX-X on PK_TableName Holds IX Page lock on the table Requesting X Page lock on the table Connection 2: Holds IX Page lock on the table Requests RangeX-X lock on the table What do I need to do in order to ensure that these deadlocks don't occur. I have been doing some reading on the RangeX-X locks and I'm not sure I fully understand what is going on with these. Do I have any options short of locking the entire table here?

  I have an HTML page like so: <html> <body> <div id='something'> ... <script> var x = 'hello world'; </script> ... </div> </body> </html> On another page, I am doing this: $.ajax({ url: 'example.html', type: 'GET', success: function(data) { $('#mydiv').html($(data).find('#something').html()); alert(x); } }); jQuery, however, is not executing the javascript in the first file, even though the documentation says it does. How can I make it do that? EDIT: Unfortunately in the real world application I am working on I don't have control over what the "included" page has. We are on the same domain, but I can't modify the code that it outputs as it is a packaged product our IT department will not let us modify.

  I'm trying to make a web scraper that will parse a web-page of publications and extract the authors. The skeletal structure of the web-page is the following: <html> <body> <div id="container"> <div id="contents"> <table> <tbody> <tr> <td class="author">####I want whatever is located here ###</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </div> </div> </body> </html> I've been trying to use BeautifulSoup and lxml thus far to accomplish this task, but I'm not sure how to handle the two div tags and td tag because they have attributes. In addition to this, I'm not sure whether I should rely more on BeautifulSoup or lxml or a combination of both. What should I do? • jQuery1.4.2 $.ajax crashes IE6/7

  Hello there! I'm having a really hard time debugging one of our latest reported bugs. The problem occurs "randomly", not on every page load, sometimes I can "click" around for a minute or two before IE6/7 crashes. By crash I mean that the IE-window shuts down and I get the option to send the crash info to Microsoft. In FF, Chrome, Safari, IE8 everything is working perfectly. What the page does is issuing 2 AJAX Jsonp calls and building some menus with the data returned. The data brought back can be from ~500b to approx. 35kb. The JSON is valid (else it wouldn't have loaded at all in FF etc), and as i told previous, it works for when navigating around the site soemtimes in IE6/7. I've tested to comment out the callbacks, still crashes. If I remove the $.ajax calls the page will work again. Whats strange is that if I downgrade to jQuery 1.3.2 everything works in all browsers including IE6/7. I've taken the crash-logs and looked at them in WinDbg and what happens seems to be a NULL POINTER reference. The last entries of the stack trace is as follows mshtml!CTreePos::SourceIndex+0x9 mshtml!CMarkup::InsertElementInternal+0x3a8 mshtml!CDoc::InsertElement+0x98 mshtml!CDocument::get_implementation+0x144 Anyone having a clue what could cause this?

• Sending wordpress title-value across PHP-pages

  I recently made this wordpress blog, where you can sign up a team for an event, when clicking a link under the event post. This link takes you to a sign-up form on another php-page. All I need now is to somehow send the specific event-post-title along to the sign-page, so that the following form-submit action will contain that title aswell. But since I'm not very good at php it seems like a mystery, altho I bet it's very simple! • How can I get browser to prompt to save password?

  Hey, I'm working on a web app that has a login dialog that works like this: User clicks "login" Login form HTML is loaded with AJAX and displayed in DIV on page User enters user/pass in fields and clicks submit. It's NOT a <form> -- user/pass are submitted via AJAX If user/pass are okay, page reloads with user logged in. If user/pass are bad, page does NOT reload but error message appears in DIV and user gets to try again. Here's the problem: the browser never offers the usual "Save this password? Yes / Never / Not Now" prompt that it does for other sites. I tried wrapping the <div> in <form> tags with "autocomplete='on'" but that made no difference. Is it possible to get the browser to offer to store the password without a major rework of my login flow? thanks Eric p.s. to add to my question, I'm definitely working with browers that store passwords, and I've never clicked "never for this site" ...this is a technical issue with the browser not detecting that it's a login form, not operator error :-)

I'm currently putting together an app that has scripts that get loaded in with an ajax request. An example: var main = _main.get(); main.load( someurl ); Where someurl is a page that contains an inline script element: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function(){ var activities = new activities(); activities.init(); }); </script> jQuery will do a line by line eval of js that lives in inline script tags. The problem is, I get no errors or any information whatsoever in firebug when something goes awry. Does anyone have a good solution for this? Or a better practice for loading pages which contain javascript functionality? Edit: A little progress... so at the top of the page that is being loaded in via ajax, I have another script that was being included like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="javascript/pages/activities.js"></script> When I moved the inline $(document).ready() code in the page to the end of this included file, instead, syntax errors were now properly getting thrown. As an aside, I threw a console.log() into the inline script tag, and it was being logged just fine. I also tried removing the $(document).ready() altogether, and also switching it out for a $(window).load() event. No difference. May have something to do with the inline scripts dependency on the included activities.js, I guess. :: shakes head :: javascript can be a nightmare.

  I'm just starting out in Grails and need some advice on using Ajax. I want to append some html to the bottom of a div inside a form. This is basically what I have: -form- -div id="listOfchildren"- childrow 1 input fields childrow 2 input fields childrow 3 input fields -/div- -form- -a-Add Child 4-/a- When I click on the "Add Child" I want to make an ajax call that results in a new childrow getting inserted into the "listOfchildren" div. So the document would look like this: -form- -div id="listOfchildren"- childrow 1 input fields childrow 2 input fields childrow 3 input fields childrow 4 input fields -/div- -form- -a-Add Child 5-/a- In Rails I would do something simple like this: render :update do |page| page.insert_html :bottom, "list_of_children", :partial = child_partial page.replace "add_link", :partial = 'add_link' end The previous code sends an javascript back to the browser with two commands. The first command tells the browser to append some html to the bottom of a div. The second command updates the "add link" counter. In grails I can only see how to replace an entire div (which would wipe out the user's existing input) and I don't see how I can call multiple functions from the ajax response. • Architecting iPhone Views - seeking help on a specific issue + general advice

  Hi there, I am a web developer (rails, python) that is new to iPhone development. I've done some desktop development in the past within the MS environment (C#). I'm trying to build a really simple iPhone application and I am confused by the way that views work in general. If someone can provide advice for my particular problem, along with some resources where I can learn how to architect iPhone views in the future, that would be awesome. I feel like a lot of the Apple documentation that I've come across is too specific - I am lacking a fundamental understanding of how views work on the iPhone. My particular problem looks like this: I need one view that displays some downloaded text content. This is the view that shows when the app loads, and it is pretty straightforward. Then I need a settings area (I've already decided I don't want to use the iPhone settings area). The settings area main page will have some text fields on it. It will also have a 2-row grouped table. Each cell in that table will take you to another view which also has a grouped table used for multi-select. I suspect that I can reuse the same view for these two final "detailed setting" views. In summary: home page settings main page detailed setting 1 detailed setting 2 Any help and advice appreciated.

• Getting Google results in Java? Need help!

  Hello. Right now, I'm trying to get the results from Google in Java, by searching for a term. I'm using a desktop program, not an applet. That in itself isn't complicated. but then Google gave me a 403 error. Anyways, I added referrer and User Agent and then it worked. Now, my problem is that I don't get the results page from Google. Instead, I get their script which gets the results page. My code right now simply uses a GET request on "http://www.google.com/search?q=" + Dork; Then it outputs each line. Here is what I get when I run my program: <.!doctype html<.head<.titledork - Google Search<./title<.scriptwindow.google={kEI:"9myaS-Date).getTime()}}};try{}catch(u){}window.google.jsrt_kill=1; align:center}#logo{display:block;overflow:hidden;position:relative;width:103px;height:37px; <./ script<./div Lots of stuff like that. I shortened it (A LOT) and put in dots to fit it here. So my big question is: How do I turn this whole mess into the nice results page I get when searching Google with a browser? • Disabling redraw in WinForms app

  I'm working on a C#.Net application which has a somewhat annoying bug in it. The main window has a number of tabs, each of which has a grid on it. When switching from one tab to another, or selecting a different row in a grid, it does some background processing, and during this the menu flickers as it's redrawn (File, Help, etc menu items as well as window icon and title). I tried disabling the redraw on the window while switching tabs/rows (WM_SETREDRAW message) at first. In one case, it works perfectly. In the other, it solves the immediate bug (title/menu flicker), but between disabling the redraw and enabling it again, the window is "transparent" to mouse clicks - there's a small window (<1 sec) in which I can click and it will, say, highlight an icon on my desktop, as if the app wasn't there at all. If I have something else running in the background (Firefox, say) it will actually get focus when clicked (and draw part of the browser, say the address bar.)   My site has a library full of games, nations, game scenarios, etc. library.php is given a type=___ & id=___ for example library.php?type=scenario&id=ABCD001 library.php saves the id to a session variable and loads an include appropriate for the type This all works just dandy. Now, I wanted to give my users the option of pulling up a random scenario. To do that, I added a special id to the logic within lib-scenario.php (the include) such that if given library.php?type=scenario&id=random the include knows to run an alternate query for a random record rather than for the actual id This also works just dandy... unless someone hits the Random Scenario button two+ times in a row, and decides that the previous random scenario was way cooler, I want to go back to that. Because the http address is always directory/library.php?type=scenario&id=random no matter how many times you click Random Scenario, as soon as you click back you'll be taken to the last page with an alternate address you visited. So, if you start at the Home page, and hit Random Scenario 35 times, then decide the 34th one was what you wanted and click BACK, you'll be put back onto the Home page. I must admit this was not a problem I had anticipated. One of my testers was the first to have the urge to back-up in the random scenario stream and here we are. How can I add back-up functionality to my script?

• Firefox: Can I use a relative path in the BASE tag?

  I have a little web project where I have many pages and an index/ToC file. The toc file is at the root of my project in toc.html. The pages are spread over a couple of subdirectories and include the toc with an iframe. The project doesn't need a web server, so I can create the HTML in a directory and browse it in my browser. The problem is that I'm running into XSS issues when JavaScript from the toc.html wants to call a function in a page (violation of the same origin policy). So I added base tags in the header with a relative URL to the directory in which toc.html. This works for Konqueror but in Firefox, I have to use absolute paths or the toc won't even display :( Here is an example: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8' ?> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <base href="../" target="_top" /> <title>Project 1</title> </head> <body> <iframe class="toc" frameborder="0" src="toc.html"> </iframe> </body> </html> This is file is in a subdirectory page. Firefox won't even load it, saying that it can't find page/toc.html. Is there a workaround? I would really like to avoid absolute paths in my export to keep it the same everywhere (locally and when I upload it on the web server later).

• CSRF Protection in AJAX Requests using MVC2

  The page I'm building depends heavily on AJAX. Basically, there is just one "page" and every data transfer is handled via AJAX. Since overoptimistic caching on the browser side leads to strange problems (data not reloaded), I have to perform all requests (also reads) using POST - that forces a reload. Now I want to prevent the page against CSRF. With form submission, using Html.AntiForgeryToken() works neatly, but in AJAX-request, I guess I will have to append the token manually? Is there anything out-of-the box available? My current attempt looks like this: I'd love to reuse the existing magic. However, HtmlHelper.GetAntiForgeryTokenAndSetCookie is private and I don't want to hack around in MVC. The other option is to write an extension like public static string PlainAntiForgeryToken(this HtmlHelper helper) { // extract the actual field value from the hidden input return helper.AntiForgeryToken().DoSomeHackyStringActions(); } which is somewhat hacky and leaves the bigger problem unsolved: How to verify that token? The default verification implementation is internal and hard-coded against using form fields. I tried to write a slightly modified ValidateAntiForgeryTokenAttribute, but it uses an AntiForgeryDataSerializer which is private and I really didn't want to copy that, too. At this point it seems to be easier to come up with a homegrown solution, but that is really duplicate code. Any suggestions how to do this the smart way? Am I missing something completely obvious?

• How can I load a Class contained in a website from a DLL referenced by that website???

  Ok so this is alittle bit obscure and I'm not sure its the best way of doing what I'm trying to do but here goes. Basically I have a Presentation Layer Dll in my web site which handles the Model View Presenter classes. The presentation layer also handles login for my website and then calls off to a web service. Currently whenever the presentation layer calls to a model it verifies the users details and if they are invalid it calls to a loginHandler which redirects the user to the login page. However I cannot dynamically load a new istance of the Login Page in my website from within my Presentation layer. I've tried to use reflection to dynamically load the class but Since the method call is in the presentation assembly it is only looking within that assembly while the page I want to load is in the website. heres the reflection code that loads the View: public ILoginView LoadView() { string viewName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["LoginView"].ToString(); Type type = Type.GetType(viewName, true); object newInstance = Activator.CreateInstance(type); return newInstance as ILoginView; } Anyone got any suggestions on how to search within the website assembly? Ideal I don't want to tie this implementation into the website specifically as the presentation layer is also used in a WPF application.
