  Hi all! I have a page that contains dynamically generated Dropdown List controls and I want thant the dynamic dropdown list perform an AutoPostback to fill some other field using the value selected. This is the code I'm using to create dynamically the control: If (Not IsPostBack) Then Dim newDDL As DropDownList = New DropDownList() AddHandler newDDL.SelectedIndexChanged, AddressOf ChangeValue newDDL.ID = "Level1" [fill the DropDownList] newDDL.Items.Insert(results.Count, New ListItem("", -1)) newDDL.Width = "300" newDDL.AutoPostBack = True newDDL.SelectedIndex = results.Count LevelDDLs.Controls.Add(newDDL) LevelDDLs.Controls.Add(New LiteralControl("<br /><br />")) End If Control is correctly filled and rendered on ASP page but, after selecting a value, the page is reloaded (AutoPostBack is called) but the control is not diplayed and the sub is not called. I put a breakpoint into the ChangeValue sub but anything happens. I read on some post that handler for the first DropDownList is not necessary but, how is it possible to tell DropDownList to call my sub after changevalue? • How can I block based on URL (from address bar) in a safari extension

  I'm trying to write an extension that will block access to (configurable) list of URLs if they are accessed more than N times per hour. From what I understand, I need to have a start script pass a "should I load this" message to a global HTML page (who can access the settings object to get the list of URLs), who will give a thumbs up/thumbs down message back to the start script to deny/allow loading. That works out fine for me, but when I use the usual beforeLoad/canLoad handlers, I get messages for all the sub-items that need to be loaded (images/etc..), which screws up the #accesses/hour limit I'm trying to make. Is there a way to synchronously pass messages back and forth between the two sandboxes so I can tell the global HTML page, "this is the URL in the window bar and the timestamp for when this request came in", so I can limit duplicate requests? • Facebook canvas app ASP.NET MVC HttpException: Invalid Model

  I am working on a Facebook tab application. I am using asp.net MVC 2 with the "official" Microsoft Facebook SDK. Most of my views are working just fine. However, I have one that is causing a huge mess. I am simply returning a List<Tags> to the view and as my ViewModel. This problematic view is simply displaying the list in a foreach loop. Whenever navigate to this view I get a "System.Web.HttpException: Invalid Model" exception. The most puzzling part of all this is that the same code is running without fail on our regular(non-Facebook) app that works just fine with the same code. Any insight into why Facebook and asp.net MVC 2 would be causing this behavior would be much appreciated.

  I work in a shop that is a mix of mostly Java and .NET technologists. When discussing new solutions and architectures we often encounter impedance in trying to compare the various technologies, frameworks, APIs etc. in use between the two camps. It seems that each camp knows little about the other and we end up comparing apples to oranges and forgetting about the bushels. While researching the topic I found this: Java -- .Net rough equivalents It's a nice list but it's not quite exhaustive and is missing the key .NET 3.0 technologies and a few other tidbits. To complete that list: what are the near/rough equivalents (or a combination of technologies) in Java to the following in .NET? WCF WPF Silverlight WF Generics Lambda expressions Linq (not Linq-to-SQL) ...have i missed anything else? Note that I omitted technologies that are already covered in the linked article. • calling a function or communicating from one browser window to another using Jquery / javascript

  Hello, I am designing a web site that plays music. The music player itself will be in a separate window along with the now playing list. I want to be able to refresh the now playing list when a new song is added to it from the main window. Essentially I need to figure out how to communicate between the two windows. I was only able to find one plugin on line that defines the player page as a child of the main page but then this reference would be lost after the parent page i.e my main page was refreshed. So this was not very useful to me and I'm kinda lost atm. • Am I using EJBs properly?

  I am using a JEE6 stack including JPA 2.0, JSF 2.0, EJB 3.1 etc. The way my architecture is setup is the following: I have JPA annotated DAOs using hibernate as my JPA provider. I have JSF Managed beans which correspond to my facelet/xhtml pages. I have EJBs that handle all of my database requests. My XHTML pages have JSF EL which make calls to my Managed beans. My managed beans contain references to my DAO entities which are managed by EJBs. For example, I have a user entity which is mapped to a db table. I have a user EJB which handles all CRUD operations that return Users. I have a page that edits a user. The highlevel workflow would be: navigate to user edit page - EL calls a method located in the managed bean that loads a user. The method calls userEJB.loadUser(user) from the EJB to get the user from the database. The user is edited and submit - a function is called in the managed bean which calls a function in the EJB to save the user. etc. I am running into issues accessing my data within my JSF pages using EJBs. I am having a lot of problems with lazy initialization errors, which I believe is due to how I have set things up. For example, I have a Client entity that has a List of users which are lazily loaded. In order to get a client I call a method in my EJB which goes to the database, finds a client and returns it. Later on i wish to access this clients list of users, in order to do so i have to go back to the EJB by calling some sort of method in order to load those users (since they are lazily loaded). This means that I have to create a method such as public List<User> getUserListByClient(Client c) { c = em.merge(c); return c.getUserList(); } The only purpose of this method is to load the users (and I'm not even positive this approach is good or works). If i was doing session management myself, I would like just leave the session open for the entire request and access the property directly, this would be fine as the session would be open anyway, there seems to be this one extra layer of indirection in EJBs which is making things difficult for me. I do like EJBs as I like the fact that they are controlled by the container, pooled, offer transaction management for free etc. However, I get the feeling that I am using them incorrectly, or I have set up my JSF app incorrectly.   I have an object of type list from which I wish to use to populate a treeview in asp.net c#. Each object item has: id | Name | ParentId so for example: id | Name | ParentId 1 | Alice | 0 2 | Bob | 1 3 | Charlie | 1 4 | David | 2 In the above example, the parent would be Alice having two children Bob and Charlie. David is the child of Bob. I have had many problems trying to dynamically populate the treeview recursively in c# ASP.NET Does any one have a simple solution? Btw: you can use People.Id, People.Name and People.ParentId to access the members since it is an object belonging to list. I can post you my code so far (many attempts made) but not sure how useful it will be.

• Bind a users role to dropdown?

  Hi... I'm trying to bind a selected user's role to a dropdown-list. The purpose of this is to be able to change said user's role. I'm attempting this inside a formview hooked up to a linqdatasource which contains a row from the aspnet_User table. The dropdown list is hooked up to a linqdatasource of all the roles in the aspnet_Roles table (with DataValueField="RoleID", DataTextField="RoleName"). I figured it would be possible with something like: SelectedValue='<%# Bind("aspnet_UsersInRole[0].aspnet_Role.RoleID") %>' But this throws a parser exception, about the bind call not being correctly formatted. The roles are there, they show up when I remove the "SelectedValue" Can anyone point me in the right direction?

• ManyToMany Relation does not create the primary key

  Hello, I have a ManyToMany relationship between two classes: ClassA and ClassB, but when the table for this relationship (table called objectA_objectB) there is no primary key on it. In my ClassA I have the following: @ManyToMany(fetch=FetchType.LAZY) @OrderBy(value="name") @JoinTable(name="objectA_objectB", joinColumns= @JoinColumn(name="idObjectA", referencedColumnName="id"), inverseJoinColumns= @JoinColumn(name="idObjectB", referencedColumnName="id") ) private List<ClassB> objectsB; and in my ClassB I have the reversed relation @ManyToMany List<ClassA> objectsA; I just want to make a primary key of both id's but I need to change the name of the columns as I do. Why is the PK missing? How can I define it? I use JPA 2.0 Hibernate implementation, if this helps. Thanks.

  Hi, I have this XML file, from which I'd like to count the number of users referenced in it. But they can appear in more than one category, and I'd like these duplicates not to be taken into account. In the example below, the query should return 3 and not 4. Is there a way in XPath to do so? • Looking to capture PageIndex on a gridview

  Hey, So I have a gridview which lists a bunch of jobs. On this gridview I have paging enabled, which works fine. When I hover over the Page Numbers i.e 1,2,3,4,.... the following is displayed javascript_DoPostBack('C100PlaceHolderGrievew','Page$1') Now my problem is as follows. When I click on one of the hyperlinks in this list i go to an edit details page. Once the user clicks on save I redirect the user back to the List page with gridview. What I would like to implement is that the gridview remembers what page they came from i.e Page 2. I know i can Use PageIndex to set this but Im not sure how to send across the value of "page" of the gridview so i can this.

• How to make a DropDownList control display some items in bold ASP.Net

  I'm working with a custom DropDownList control in ASP.Net and there's been a request to display certain items in the list with a bold typeface (NOTE - the control inherits from CompositeDataBoundControl so it can be data bound... not DropDownListBox). The control is bound to a table and there's a column in the table named IsUsed - if this is set to true, the corresponding item in the list should be rendered bold. (It should be noted here that this will only ever be viewed in FireFox.) My experience is all in the middle \ backend tiers so the presentation layer is very new to me - can someone point me in the right direction? My initial thought was that somewhere in the custom control I would have access to all the rows that are returned from the data source which I could cycle through etc but I'm not sure if that's possible... There's also RenderContents which I can override... looks interesting! Any help appreciated - cheers. James

  Hello all, I'm using LinqToXML to generate a piece of XML. Everything works great except I'm throwing in some empty namespace declarations somehow. Does anyone out there know what I'm doing incorrectly? • Add jar to EAR in Eclipse

  I have several projects in an EAR in Eclipse. These projects themselves have dependency jar's on the build path marked as "do not export, do not contribute to others". Now in Eclipse I add jar's to the EAR via the EAR properties "Java EE Module Dependencies". I browse to the jar (add jar) and click ok. The jar is added to the list. When I click apply, the added jar is gone from the list, it cannot be found in other properties, it is contained in the hidden folder .settings in the file org.eclipse.wst.common.component. This behaviour does not make much sense to me, what am I missing?

• Different url scheme for Zend Framework

  For our CMS we have a site manager that defines the site's tree structure (sitemap if you want to call it that). A possible url is www.example.com/our-team/developers/chris/ which would map in the tree structure to the node chris, child old developers which is in turn a child of out-team. All this is in place and working the the wonderfully implemented Nested Set behavior in doctrine. The only thing is that i'm struggling to get it working in the front end of our website. By default Zend framework's request object expects controller/action/key/value/key/value/... URI scheme but that isn't quite fitting my needs, i would like to skip the whole controller, action and key part and restrict to values. Something like value1/value2/value3/value4/... Anyone has an idea how to accomplish this?

• Continual crashing in MKMapView annotationContainer:viewForAnnotation

  I've looked at other reports on this, and none seems to apply. Our app is being crippled by frequent (but not reliably reproducible) crashes like this: Reports of this turn up a lot on the Web, but many seem to go unsolved. I'm not doing anything crazy, just showing the user position and one marker on the map. I followed the examples I could find, and I've looked at the code for goofs but can't find any. Here's how my MapView delegate handles viewForAnnotation: The crash appears to be associated with a change in the user's location, but once the user-location marker is added, I don't mess with it. When I need to refresh the one other map marker, I skip the user marker when removing the other one: The delegate is the controller for the whole screen, so it's not being deallocated; the crash occurs while the screen is up. Not that it matters, but the map display looks like this: Any guesses or insight would be much appreciated! This is on iOS 5.0.1.

This line works well in Excel 2007, but gives a Object doesn't support this property or method. error in Excel 2002. What is the difference between working with shapes in 2002 vs 2007?

• How can I play compressed sound files in C# in a portable way?

  Is there a portable, not patent-restricted way to play compressed sound files in C# / .Net? I want to play short "jingle" sounds on various events occuring in the program. System.Media.SoundPlayer can handle only WAV, but those are typically to big to embed in a downloadable apllication. MP3 is protected with patents, so even if there was a fully managed decoder/player it wouldn't be free to redistribute. The best format available would seem to be OGG Vorbis, but I had no luck getting any C# Vorbis libraries to work (I managed to extract a raw PCM with csvorbis but I don't know how to play it afterwards). I neither want to distribute any binaries with my application nor depend on P/Invoke, as the project should run at least on Windows and Linux. I'm fine with bundling .Net assemblies as long as they are license-compatible with GPL. [this question is a follow up to a mailing list discussion on mono-dev mailing list a year ago]

  I have a windows form (net 2.0) with controls on it bound to an entity (w/ INotifyPropertyChanged) through a BindingSource..works.
