• ArgumentNullException when accessing a FormView instance

  Background: I have an ASP.NET page which has a numebr of user controls within it. There are 2 user controls which are of interest. I need to display either one of them or neither of them, depending on the record selected previously. In the user controls I need to set properties of some controls which are in a FormView. So in my user control code-behind I have a number of properties which look something like this: Private ReadOnly Property phSectionReports() As PlaceHolder Get Return fvConfirmationReport.FindControl("phSectionReports") End Get End Property The problem: I am having problems with this Property. Sometimes it is returning Nothing/Null and sometimes it is throwing a NullArgumentException with the message "Value cannot be null. Parameter name: container". The exception is coming from trying to reference the fvConfirmationReport variable. fvConfirmationReport is the ID of my FormView in the page itself. So I am really after things to look for and if any ideas what sort of conditions (e.g stage in page cycle, etc.) might lead to this? An example stack trace is included below. • User defined datatypes CANNOT be returned in web service in Jboss 5.0.1

  I am using Jboss 5.0.1, jdk 1.6.0 update 31 and implementing an EJB as a web service and my method in web service module returns an Array of JavaBean objects in my example BenefitLevel array object. • Apple Push Notifications With Foreign Accent Characters Not Receiving

  I'm sending push notifications and when the message contains foreign characters (Turkish in my case) like I, s, ç, g... The message does not arrive to devices. And other ways like iconv() didn't work for me, some of them cropped Turkish characters, some didn't receive at all. I also have header('content-type: text/html; charset: utf-8'); and <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> in my page. I don't think the problem appears while I set the value but maybe with pack() function. Any ideas to solve this without replacing characters with English?

• DOM memory issue with IE8 (inserting lots of JSON data)

  i am developing a small web-utility that displays some data from some database tables. i have the utility running fine on FF, Safari, Chrome..., but the memory management on IE8 is horrendous. the largest JSON request I do will return information to create around 5,000 or so rows in a table within the browser (3 columns in the table). i'm using jquery to get the data (via getJSON). to remove the old/existing table, i'm just doing a $('#my_table_tbody').empty(). to add the new info to the table, within the getJSON callback, i am just appending each table row that i am creating to a variable, and then once i have them all, i am using $('#my_table_tbody').append(myVar) to add it to the existing tbody. i don't add the table rows as they are created because that seems to be a lot slower than just adding them all at once. does anyone have any recommendation on what someone should do who is trying to add thousands of rows of data to the DOM? i would like to stay away from pagination, but i'm wondering if i don't have a choice. • Copy android.R.layout to my project

  Good advice from CommonWare and Steve H but it's not as easy to me as I first thought. Based on their advice I'm trying to copy android.R.layout to my project to ensure consistency. How do you do this? I looked in Eclipse's Package Explorer and under Android 1.5android.jarandroidR.classRlayout and find R$layout.class. Do I copy the code out of there into my own class? • .htaccess mod_rewrite issue

  Almost in any project I work on, some issues with .htaccess occur. I usually just find the easiest solution and leave it because I don't have any knowledge or understanding for Apache, servers etc. But this time I thought I would ask you guys. This is the files and folders in my (simplified) setup: /modrewrite-test .htaccess /config /inc /lib /public_html .htaccess /cms /navigation index.php edit.php /pages index.php edit.php login.php page.php The "config", "inc" and "lib" folders are meant to be "hidden" from the root of the website. I try to accomplish this by making a .htaccess-file in the root that redirects the user to "public_html". The .htacess-file contains this: RewriteEngine On RewriteRule (.*) public_html/$1 This works perfect. If I type "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/login.php" in my browser, I end up in public_html/login.php which is my intention. So this works fine. The .htaccess-file in "public_html" contains this: RewriteEngine On # Root RewriteRule ^$ page.php [L] # Login RewriteRule ^(admin)|(login)\/?$ login.php [L] # Page (if not a file/directory) RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ page.php?url=$1 [L] The first rewrite just redirects me to public_html/page.php if I try to reach "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/". The third and last rewrite handles the rest of the requests. If I try to reach "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/bla/bla/bla" it will just redirect me to public_html/page.php (with the 'url' GET-variable set) instead of finding a folder called "la", containing a folder named "bla" and etc. All of these things work perfect but a minor issues occurs when I for instance try to reach "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/cms/navigation" without a slash at the end of the URL. When I try to reach that page the browser is somehow redirected to "http://localhost/modrewrite-test/public_html/cms/navigation/". The correct page is shown but why does it get redirected and add the "public_html" part in the URL? The desired behavior is that the URL stays intact and that the page public_html/cms/navigation/index.php is shown. • Optimizing spacing of mesh containing a given set of points

  I tried to summarize the this as best as possible in the title. I am writing an initial value problem solver in the most general way possible. I start with an arbitrary number of initial values at arbitrary locations (inside a boundary.) The first part of my program creates a mesh/grid (I am not sure which is the correct nuance), with N points total, that contains all the initial values. My goal is to optimize the mesh such that the spacing is as uniform as possible. My solver seems to work half decently (it needs some more obscure debugging that is not relevant here.) I am starting with one dimension. I intend to generalize the algorithm to an arbitrary number of dimensions once I get it working consistently. I am writing my code in fortran, but feel free to reply with pseudocode or the language of your choice. Allow me to elaborate with an example: Say I am working on a closed interval [1,10] xmin=1 xmax=10 Say I have 3 initial points: xmin, 5 and xmax num_ivc=3 known(num_ivc)=[xmin,5,xmax] //my arrays start at 1. Assume "known" starts sorted I store my mesh/grid points in an array called coord. Say I want 10 points total in my mesh/grid. N=10 coord(10) Remember, all this is arbitrary--except the variable names of course. The algorithm should set coord to {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10} Now for a less trivial example: num_ivc=3 known(num_ivc)=[xmin,5.5,xmax or just num_ivc=1 known(num_ivc)=[5.5] Now, would you have 5 evenly spaced points on the interval [1, 5.5] and 5 evenly spaced points on the interval (5.5, 10]? But there is more space between 1 and 5.5 than between 5.5 and 10. So would you have 6 points on [1, 5.5] followed by 4 on (5.5 to 10]. The key is to minimize the difference in spacing. I have been working on this for 2 days straight and I can assure you it is a lot trickier than it sounds. I have written code that only works if N is large only works if N is small only works if it the known points are close together only works if it the known points are far apart only works if at least one of the known points is near a boundary only works if none of the known points are near a boundary So as you can see, I have coded the gamut of almost-solutions. I cannot figure out a way to get it to perform equally well in all possible scenarios (that is, create the optimum spacing.)

• Problem with return 2 libc method

  Hi, I'am trying to understand the return2libc method. I'am using an ubuntu linux 9.10, 32 bit with ASLR disabled. In theory, it sounds quite easy, overwrite the saved eip with the address of system() (or whatever function you want), then put the address to which system() should return and after that, the parameter for system, the "/bin/bash"-string. But what happens is that my exploit keeps segfaulting the vulnerable program. I assume something with the system()-address went wrong. This is what I did so far: Determined the address of system(): (gdb) print system $1 = {<text variable, no debug info>} 0x167020 <system> (gdb) x/x system 0x167020 <system>: 0x890cec83 I used the subsequent x/x system because those 3 bytes returned by print system looks like an index in some sort of jumptable (PLT?), so I assume 0x890cec83 is the right address which is used to overwrite the saved eip. After that I determined the address of the /bin/bash string in memory, using a small C program which basically consists of this line: printf("Address of string /bin/bash: %p\n", getenv("SHELL")); Then I looked a little bit around in the memory and fount /bin/bash: (gdb) x/s 0xbffff6ca 0xbffff6ca: "/bin/bash" After I gathered this information, I filled the buffer: (gdb) b 9 Breakpoint 1 at 0x8048407: file victim.c, line 9. When I'am continuing the execution, victim segfaults on some strange address and certainly not in 0x890cec83: (gdb) cont Continuing. Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x0804840d in main (argc=Cannot access memory at address 0x41414149 ) at victim.c:11 11 } Has anyone an explanation or a hint what happens here and why the execution isn't redirected to 0x890cec83? Thanks in advance, any hint, and be it only vague, would be appreciated. I have no idea why this doesn't work.

• Simple database design and LINQ

  I have very little experience designing databases, and now I want to create a very simple database that does the same thing I have previously had in xml. Here's the xml: <services> <service type="writing"> <small>125</small> <medium>100</medium> <large>60</large> <xlarge>30</xlarge> </service> <service type="analysis"> <small>56</small> <medium>104</medium> <large>200</large> <xlarge>250</xlarge> </service> </services> Now, I wanted to create the same thing in a SQL database, and started doing this ( hope this formats ok, but you'll get the gist, four columns and two rows): > ServiceType Small Medium Large > > Writing 125 100 60 > > Analysis 56 104 200 This didn't work too well, since I then wanted to use LINQ to select, say, the Large value for Writing (60). But I couldn't use LINQ for this (as far as I know) and use a variable for the size (see parameters in the method below). I could only do that if I had a column like "Size" where Small, Medium, and Large would be the values. But that doesn't feel right either, because then I would get several rows with ServiceType = Writing (3 in this case, one for each size), and the same for Analysis. And if I were to add more servicetypes I would have to do the same. Simply repetitive... Is there any smart way to do this using relationships or something?   I've been working on a computational physics project (plotting related rates of chemical reactants with respect to eachother to show oscillatory behavior) with a fair amount of success. However, one of my simulations involves more than two active oscillating agents (five, in fact) which would obviously be unsuitable for any single visual plot... My scheme was hence to have the user select which two reactants they wanted plotted on the x-axis and y-axis respectively. I tried (foolishly) to convert string input values into the respective variable names, but I guess I need a radically different approach if any exist? • Need to optimize this PHP script for "recent posts". Fatal error when post count is high...

  The code below is resulting in an error on a site in which there are ~ 1500 posts. It performs fine when post count is nominal, however, this heavy load is exposing the weakness of the code and I'd like to optimize it. Interestingly, when I disable this menu and instead use the "Recent Posts" widget, the posts are drawn fine. So I'd probably do good to borrow from that code if I knew where to find it, or better yet, If I could call the widget directly in my theme, passing it a post count variable.   I am trying to do this in one query. I asked a similar question a few days ago but my personal requirements have changed. I have a game type website where users can attend "classes". There are three tables in my DB. I am using MySQL. I have four tables: hl_classes (int id, int professor, varchar class, text description) hl_classes_lessons (int id, int class_id, varchar lessonTitle, varchar lexiconLink, text lessonData) hl_classes_answers (int id, int lesson_id, int student, text submit_answer, int percent) hl_classes stores all of the classes on the website. The lessons are the individual lessons for each class. A class can have infinite lessons. Each lesson is available in a specific term. hl_classes_terms stores a list of all the terms and the current term has the field active = '1'. When a user submits their answers to a lesson it is stored in hl_classes_answers. A user can only answer each lesson once. Lessons have to be answered sequentially. All users attend all "classes". What I am trying to do is grab the next lesson for each user to do in each class. When the users start they are in term 1. When they complete all 10 lessons in each class they move on to term 2. When they finish lesson 20 for each class they move on to term 3. Let's say we know the term the user is in by the PHP variable $term. So this is my query I am currently trying to massage out but it doesn't work.   Hi all, I am trying to retrieve information from a web service call. The following is what I have so far. In my text view, it is showing Map {item=anyType{key=TestKey; value=2;}; item=anyType{key=TestField; value=adsfasd; };} When I ran that in the debugger, I can see the information above in the variable, tempvar. But the question is, how do I retrieve the information (i.e. the actual values of "key" and "value" in each of the array positions)?   I'm trying to make a small modification to django lfs project, that will allow me to deactivate products with no stocks. Unfortunatelly I'm just beginning to learn python, so I have big trouble with its syntax. That's what I'm trying to do. I'm using method 'has_variants' which returns true if product has any. Then I'm building a list from variants for this product. Next for every product in this list (I've called it 'set') I check it's stock and set bool variable 'inactive' to true if product has no stocks and to false if there are any.   Working on some .aspx.cs code and decided I would forget how to turn a textbox value into a useable integer or decimal. Be warned I'm pretty new to .asp. Wish I could say the same for c sharp. So the value going into my textbox (strawberryp_textbox) is "1" which I presume I can access with the .text property. Which I then parse into a int. The Error reads Format Exception was unhandled by user code.   Hey guys, I'm not trying to do anything malicious here, I just need to do some homework. I'm a fairly new programmer, I'm using python 3.0, and I having difficulty using recursion for problem-solving. I've been stuck on this question for quite a while. Here's the assignment: Write a recursive method spam(url, n) that takes a url of a web page as input and a non-negative integer n, collects all the email address contained in the web page and adds them to a global dictionary variable spam_dict, and then recursively calls itself on every http hyperlink contained in the web page. You will use a dictionary so only one copy of every email address is save; your dictionary will store (key,value) pairs (email, email). The recursive call should use the parameter n-1 instead of n. If n = 0, you should collect the email addresses but no recursive calls should be made. The parameter n is used to limit the recursion to at most depth n. You will need to use the solutions of the two above problems; you method spam() will call the methods links2() and emails() and possibly other functions as well. Notes: 1. running spam() directly will produce no output on the screen; to find your spam_dict, you will need to read the value of spam_dict, and you will also need to reset it to the empty dictionary before every run of spam. 2. Recall how global variables are used. • Cannot access new product attributes in grid display

  I added a couple new attribute to my products(a boolean "yes/no" fields). They are variables to enable/disable the price from displaying on the product detail page, and grid view. I managed to get it work on the product info page. But on product grid page I cant seem to access those variable. Specifically, the template i am working with is catalog/product/list.phtml. Ive tried adding them in the xml file like this layout/catalog.xml: <block type="catalog/product_list" name="product_list" template="catalog/product/list.phtml"> <action method="addAttribute"><name>DisplayPrice</name></action> <action method="addAttribute"><name>CustomOrder</name></action> </block> and I am trying to access the attributes like so in catalog/product/list.phtml: <?php echo $_product->getDisplayPriceName()? I want to add sunspot_rails to my project to add search functionality (with the hope of deploying the project with Heroku). I'm using Rails 3.   Recursive Solution: Not working! Explanation: An integer, time, is passed into the function. It's then used to provide an end to the FOR statement (counter<time). The IF section (time == 0) provides a base case where the recursion should terminate, returning 0. The ELSE section is where the recursive call occurs: total is a private variable defined in the header file, elsewhere. It's initialized to 0 in a constructor, elsewhere. The function calls itself, recursively, adding productsAndSales[time-1][0] to total, again, and again, until the base call. Then the total is returned, and printed out later. Well, that's what I hoped for anyway. What I imagined would happen is that I would add up all the values in this one column of the array and the value would get returned, and printed out. Instead if returns 0. If I set the IF section to "return 1", I noticed that it returns powers of 2, for whatever value time is. EG: Time = 3, it returns 2*2 + 1. If time = 5, it returns 2*2*2*2 + 1.
