  Hello. Can 'Entity Framework' be used for the purpose of entity definition at application runtime? Ok, to make it simple, here is what I want to achieve: My application is a product. I should be able to define entities at runtime on the basis of inputs gathered from an 'authoring' user (in effect this means 'model first' approach). These entities are of course persistable. Further, after having defined the entities and their relationships, I should be able to make complex queries across them for many reasons, including reports. Is the above possible and how? So far what I have realized is that there is a dependency on Visual Studio.

  LastInput.time is an Integer and m_idleTime is an Integer too. This line sometimes generates an Overflow exception, I think that this happens when both values are big negative values. (Environment.TickCount - lastInput.time) > m_idleTime How can I avoid that? With casting? (CType(Environment.TickCount,Long) - CType(lastInput.time,Long)) > m_idleTime Or maybe with this cast? And since Web Deployment Projects (WDP) tool is only used for manipulation the output created by aspnet_compiler.exe, I don’t understand how VS 2008 also has an option for using WDP with web application projects?! • CompareValidator issue on Firefox

  Hi, I need to validate a date in a web forms application. For this I use a CompareValidator with Operator="DataTypeCheck" Type="Date" The problem is that this Validator doesn't work properly on Firefox with 2 digit years. ( javascript error: m[2] is undefined) With a 4 digits year it's working properly.   Hi, i have a question about unit testing. say i have a controller with one create method which puts a new customer in the database: //code a bit shortened public actionresult Create(Formcollection formcollection){ client c = nwe client(); c.Name = formcollection["name"]; ClientService.Save(c); { Clientservice would call a datalayer object and save it in the database. What i do now is create a database testscript and set my database in a know condition before testing. So when i test this method in the unit test, i know that there must be one more client in the database, and what it's name is. In short: ClientController cc = new ClientController(); cc.Create(new FormCollection (){name="John"}); //i know i had 10 clients before assert.areEqual(11, ClientService.GetNumberOfClients()); //the last inserted one is John assert.areEqual("John", ClientService.GetAllClients()[10].Name); So i've read that unit testing should not be hitting the database, i've setup an IOC for the database classes, but then what? I can create a fake database class, and make it do nothing. But then ofcourse my assertions will not work because if i say GetNumberOfClients() it will alwasy return X because it has no interaction with the fake database class used in the Create Method. I can also create a List of Clients in the fake database class, but as there will be two different instance created (one in the controller action and one in the unit test), they will have no interaction. What is the way to make this unit test work without a database?

I know that I could put the info into the viewdata dictionary, which is probably the best, but I don't want to have to write ViewData["User"] = myUser; before I return from EVERY action method. • Onclick not firing

  I have a set of buttons on my master page (I have attached the code below) but no onclick event is being raised. I pulled the final page source and no onclick event was present. As you can see I tried a few different approaches to solve the problem. I am looking for a normal postback to the server but I am getting nothing when I click any of these buttons. So I created one MVC application in visual studio and everything is working fine on localhost as a separate application. Now I want to host this MVC app also inside the website I have already deployed. I created a virtual directory(MVCDir) inside the default website in IIS 6.0. • Getting table schema from a query

  As per MSDN, SqlDataReader.GetSchemaTable returns column metadata for the query executed. I am wondering is there a similar method that will give table metadata for the given query? I mean what tables are involved and what aliases it has got. In my application, I get the query and I need to append the where clause programically. Using GetSchemaTable(), I can get the column metadata and the table it belongs to. But even though table has aliases, it still return the real table name. Is there a way to get the aliase name for that table?   I'm currently writing a library where I wish to allow the user to be able to specify spreadsheet cell(s) under four possible alternatives: A single cell: "A1"; Multiple contiguous cells: "A1:B10" Multiple separate cells: "A1,B6,I60,AA2" A mix of 2 and 3: "B2:B12,C13:C18,D4,E11000" Then, to validate whether the input respects these formats, I intended to use a regular expression to match against. I have consulted this article on Wikipedia: Regular Expression (Wikipedia) And I also found this related SO question: regex matching alpha character followed by 4 alphanumerics. • Display Pdf Stream on page load with Binary Write

  I have a pdf file being generated on the fly which I want to display inline on pageload, as below Response.Clear() Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=_Bulk_Print.pdf") Response.ContentType = "application/pdf" Response.BinaryWrite(docData) Response.End() If I put this in a click event it works perfectly but when on page load I Just get a blank aspx page despite the fact it's stepping through that code and the generation of the DocData no problem. That time problem was resolved himself (without any actions from my side, with Visual Studio restart). At the moment, I had the same problem on another PC (Vista x64, VS2008, Silverlight 3.0, RIA Services Toolkit): ThomasDomainContext class that inherits DomainContext was not visible from the page's codebehind file. Again, it was resolved after VS restart and after that I got another problem: Error 1 'VfmElita.Web.ClientBin.ThomasDomainContext' does not contain a definition for 'employee' and no extension method 'employee' accepting a first argument of type 'VfmElita.Web.ClientBin.ThomasDomainContext' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) D:\Project\Budda\VFMElita\VfmElitaSilverlightClient\MainPage.xaml.cs for the following lines of code (error is noticed for the 31st line): 30: var context = new ThomasDomainContext(); 31: grid1.ItemsSource = context.employee; 32: context.Load(context.GetEmployeeQuery()); Any help is welcome.   At first I was using this as an extension method to update my detached entities... Correct me if I am wrong but that is because "ApplyCurrentValues" only supports scalars. To get around this I was just saving the FK_ID field instead of the entity object relation. Now I am faced with a many to many relationship so its not that simple. I would like to do something like this... Dim Resource = RelatedResource.GetByID(item.Value) Condition.RelatedResources.Add(Resource) But when I call SaveChanges the added Resources aren't saved. I started to play around with self-tracking entities (not sure if they will help solve my prob) but it seems they cannot be serialized to ViewState and this is a requirement for me. I guess one solution would be to add the xRef table as an entity and add the fks myself but I would rather it just work how I expect it too. I am open to any suggestions on how to either save my many to many relationships or serialize self-tracking entities (if self-trackingwould even solve my problem). Thanks!

I create a class in which I declare all the columns of the table.
