• Call AsyncTask methods from another class/service (callbacks?)

  Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to call specific methods defined within the AsynTask class from another class and/or service ? In my specific case I have a Service playing some sounds, but the sound is selected from a List with available sounds... When a sounds is selected it is downloaded from my home server, this takes some time (not much, let's say around the 3-4 seconds, the sounds/effects aren't big in size)... So my problem at the moment is that I have a service to play those sounds, and when I select one I wanted to show a progressdialog... The way (if I understood correctly) is to use an AsyncTask, but the only thing the AsyncTask will do is telling my Service to play a specific sound from my server... So there is no "callback" from the service to the Asynctask... How can I achieve that ? How can I call a running AsyncTask, which sits in another class, and tell him all work is done and thus he can stop showing the ProgressDialog ? Or am I over-engineering it and there are other ways ? • "javascript: void(0)" links sometimes break event handlers in internet explorer

  A while back I ran in to a problem where after clicking an anchor with "javascript: void(0)" events just stopped firing. I read that following a link puts the page in a different state and in that different state events don't fire. Even though the link is not real, it sometimes confuses IE. Anyway, I removed the "javascript: void(0)"'s and the problem has not been seen again. Now, in a different application I am seeing the same thing... kinda. Clicking the "javascript: void(0)" sometimes has no ill effect. But then for some reason or another after clicking the bad link the page will stop working. Once this happens it will continue to happen consistently until the client machine is rebooted. After reboot, you are back to it sometimes happening. Crazy right? Reboot fixing a web page!?!?! So, my question is has anyone seen this before? Can anyone give an explanation for this issue? Any documentation on this issue? I can't seem to find anything on it again. Does this even make sense? I already know "javascript: void(0)" is bad practice... I am just looking to understand the issue. Specifically, this is IE7. Thanks for reading!

• What is the "un-tab" sequence in (g)Vim?

  This is an annoyance I've had for a long time. (Nitpicky section: I prefer 4 space characters to tab characters. It's a lot easier to type "tab" instead of explaining that. When I say "tab", I mean "the action that happens when you press the tab key" which is probably more simply stated as "increase indentation".) I'm using smartindent while editing a document where indentation has some significance. In "dumb" windows text editors I can press Shift+Tab to remove a tab or, more appropriately, decrease the indentation level of the current line. I can't figure out how to do this from edit mode in Vim; Shift+Tab seems to count just the same as Tab. I know in Command mode << will decrease indentation. I want the equivalent in edit mode. These are the solutions I've found so far and why I don't like them, one in particular may be the key to the answer. Use Notepad++ or some other dumb editor. I've done this for a couple of years but I really miss Vim. Exit edit mode, use <<, enter edit mode. This just puts the cursor at column 0; if I wanted this I wouldn't have tried smartindent. Stop using smartindent. I don't decrease indent as often as I need to keep the same indent level; this would be a loss of productivity. The left arrow key seems to decrease the indent by one level. I'd rather something I can do without leaving the home row. This is the most promising choice. Maybe there's an option I can set? Maybe I can rebind left arrow to something? (If it requires rebinding please explain in detail; I've never delved into reconfiguring (g)Vim.

  I am trying to create a function which maps a recurring pattern of integers using an array. As an example if I have a starting array of (0,1,3) and I know that I want to stop the pattern when I hit 15. The pattern gets incremented by a fixed integer each time (lets say 4) so my final pattern should be.. 0 1 3 4 (0 + 4) 5 (1 + 4) 7 (2 + 4) 8 (4 + 4) 9 (5 + 4) 11(7 + 4) 12(8 + 4) 13(9 + 4) 15(11+ 4) Does anyone have any pointers on how this can be achieved? • Mysql dropping inserts with triggers

  Using mysql 5.5. I have two tables. One has a whitelist of hashes. When I insert a new row into the other table, I want to first compare the hash in the insert statement to the whitelist. If it's in the whitelist, I don't want to do the insert (less data to plow through later). The inserts are generated from another program and are text files with sql statements. I've been playing with triggers, and almost have it working: BEGIN IF (select count(md5hash) from whitelist where md5hash=new.md5hash) 0 THEN SIGNAL SQLSTATE '45000' SET MESSAGE_TEXT = 'Already Whitelisted'; END IF; END But there's a problem. The Signal throwing up the error stops the import. I want to skip that line, not stop the whole import. Some searching didn't find any way to silently skip the import. My next idea was to create a duplicate table definition, and redirect the insert to that dup table. But the old and new don't seem to apply to table names. Other then adding an ignore column to my table then doing a mass drop based on that column after the import, is there any way to achieve my goal?

• How to stream authenticated content with MediaPlayer on Android

  I've seen quite a few posts askign this question on SO but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer (or at least an answer I like!) I've got content protected behind basic auth (username/password) -- I can download it fine using the various HTTP download clases but for the life of me I can't sort out how to tell media player to stream it (and provide the authentication). I saw one post that suggested it wasn't possible since the MediaPlayer is all native code and doesn't things like the Authenticator. There are plenty of examples of how to first download to a cached copy and then play that back but....That sort of sucks (and the files maybe 100's of MB's). I saw at least one proposal to download it in smalish chunks and then start & stop the playback (redirecting to the new file) but that sort of sucks also since there would (I presume) be a stutter (I haven't tried it though) The best idea I have at this point is to start downloading to a cache file and then when it's 'full enough' start up playback while I continue to fill the file.... I hope that this works (but again, haven't tried it). Am I missing something obvious? It's so painful to have all the various pieces almost working and I sort of convinced myself that there had to be a way to natively stream protected content (or have it take a already established & qualified InputStream) but it appears no joy. BTW I'm a Mac/iPhone guy and a newb at Android so I'm still fighting a bit of Java learning.... Excuse me if I'm missing somthing obvious. -john

• Debugging Widget causes ANR

  I'm trying to debug an AppWidget but I incurred in a problem :D I placed a breakpoint on the top of the method: public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { Log.v(TAG, "onReceive 1"); // BP on this line super.onReceive(context, intent); String action = intent.getAction(); // Checks on action and computations ... Log.v(TAG, "onReceive 2"); updateWidget(context); Log.v(TAG, "onReceive 3"); } The breakpoint stops the execution as expected but then the process dies. The problem is that the breakpoint ( I guess xD ) cause an ANR and the ActivityManager kills the process. That's the Log: 01-07 14:32:38.886: ERROR/ActivityManager(72): ANR in com.salvo.wifiwidget 01-07 14:32:38.886: INFO/Process(72): Sending signal. PID: 475 SIG: 9 ...... ...... 01-07 14:32:38.906: INFO/ActivityManager(72): Process com.salvo.wifiwidget (pid 475) has died. This cause the debug to stop. So the question is: there's a way to debug the widget without incurring in the ANR?? thanks in advance for the answers

• Looking for PyQt4 embeddable terminal widget

  I wrote an application that, among other things, launches some "backend" processes to do some stuff. These subprocesses are very likely to fail or have unexpected behavior since they have to operate in quite hard conditions, so I prefer to give full control over them to the operator. NOTE: I am running these processes using a subprocess module based class instead of QProcess to have some more control functionality over the running process. At the moment, I'm using a QPlainTextEdit widget to which I append standard output/error from the subprocess, plus some buttons to quickly send some common signals (INT, STOP, CONT, KILL, ..), but: In some cases it would be useful to send some input too. Although it could be done with a text input box, I would prefer using something more "professional" Of course, there is no direct way to interpret special control characters, such as color codes, cursor movement, etc.. I had to implement an auto-scroll management of the console, but it is not guaranteed 100% to work nicely (sometimes the scroll locking doesn't work as expected, etc.) So: does anyone know something I could use to accomplish these needs? I found qtermwidget but it seems more oriented on handling a shell process (and the Python bindings seems to let you run /bin/bash only) by itself than communicating with an already existing process I/O.

  So I have PHP script running on cron daily. It is suppose to check the date and send an email if it is 7 days before any payments as a reminder. • Why won't my code segfault on Windows 7?

  This is an unusual question to ask but here goes: In my code, I accidentally dereference NULL somewhere. But instead of the application crashing with a segfault, it seems to stop execution of the current function and just return control back to the UI. This makes debugging difficult because I would normally like to be alerted to the crash so I can attach a debugger. What could be causing this? Specifically, my code is an ODBC Driver (ie. a DLL). My test application is ODBC Test (odbct32w.exe) which allows me to explicitly call the ODBC API functions in my DLL. When I call one of the functions which has a known segfault, instead of crashing the application, ODBC Test simply returns control to the UI without printing the result of the function call. I can then call any function in my driver again. I do know that technically the application calls the ODBC driver manager which loads and calls the functions in my driver. But that is beside the point as my segfault (or whatever is happening) causes the driver manager function to not return either (as evidenced by the application not printing a result). One of my co-workers with a similar machine experiences this same problem while another does not but we have not been able to determine any specific differences.

• Simplify my menu animation code

  I've got a bunch of 'project' divs that I want to expand when they're clicked on. If there's already a project open, I want to hide it before I slide out the new one. I also want to stop clicks on an already open project from closing and then opening it again.   I have a search form with inputs and selects, and when any input/select is changed i run some js and then make an ajax query with jquery. I want to stop the user from making further changes to the form while the request is in progress, as at the moment they can initiate several remote searches at once, effectively causing a race between the different searches. It seems like the best solution to this is to prevent the user from interacting with the form while waiting for the request to come back. At the moment i'm doing this in the dumbest way possible by hiding the form before making the ajax query and then showing it again on success/error. This solves the problem but looks horrible and isn't really acceptable. Is there another, better way to prevent interaction with the form? To make things more complicated, to allow nice-looking selects, the user actually interacts with spans which have js hooked up to them to tie them to the actual, hidden, selects. So, even though the spans aren't inputs, they are contained in the form and represent the actual interactive elements of the form. Grateful for any advice - max. • Migrate from Oracle to MySQL

  Hi together. We ran into serious performance problems with our Oracle database and we would like to try to migrate to a MySQL-based database (either MySQL directly or, more preferrable, Infobright). The thing is, we need to let the old and the new system overlap for at least some weeks if not months, before we actually know, if all features of the new database match our needs. So, here is our situation: The Oracle database consists of multiple tables with each millions of rows. During the day, there are literally thousands of statements, which we cannot stop for migration. Every morning, new data is imported into the Oracle database, replacing some thousands of rows. Copying this process is not a problem, so we could, in theory, import in both databases in parallel. But, and here lies the challenge, for this to work, we need to have an export from the Oracle database with a consistent state from one day. (We cannot export some tables on Monday and some others on Tuesday, etc.) This means, that at least the export should be finished in less than one day. Our first thought was to dump the schema, but I wasn't able to find a tool to import an Oracle dump file into mysql. Exporting tables in CSV files might work, but I'm afraid it could take too long. So my question now is: What should I do? Is there any tool to import Oracle dump files into MySQL? Does anybody have any experience with such a large-scale migration? • Why doesn't my <div> float around another floated <div> while other elements do?

  I have a container with background color green. Inside that green <div>, I have a <div> which is black and styled as a box (50px x 50px) - this <div> is floated to the left. Now if I add a <p> to my markup after the grey <div>, I'd expect it to float around the grey <div>. And it does. However, when I substitue with another <div> which is styled as box (set height and width), it doesn't float around anymore, but disappears behind the floating div. Even if I have first paragraphs which are floating around correctly and THEN I add the div (box), the paragraphs stop floating around and appear on another line. • multiple mysql_real_query() in while loop

  It seems that when I have one mysql_real_query() function in a continuous while loop, the query will get executed OK. However, if multiple mysql_real_query() are inside the while loop, one right after the other. Depending on the query, sometimes neither the first query nor second query will execute properly. This seems like a threading issue to me. I'm wondering if the mysql c api has a way of dealing with this? • Trouble installing R-2.15.2 on Fedora 14

  I need to install R-2.15.2, the latest version. I tried using blah> sudo yum install R to install R, but for whatever reason (maybe because it's an old version of Fedora?) my system thinks R version 13 is the most recent. So, I downloaded the .tar.gz file from R's site and used the following: blah> tar -xvf R-2.15.2.tar.gz This successfully unzipped the file. I then ran: blah> ./configure blah/R-2.15.2> ls ChangeLog COPYING Makeconf.in ONEWS src VERSION-NICK config.log doc Makefile.fw OONEWS SVN-REVISION config.site etc Makefile.in po tests configure INSTALL NEWS README tools configure.ac m4 NEWS.pdf share VERSION As you can see, makefiles are present. However, when I run "make" within the R folder, I get the following error: blah/R-2.15.2> make make: No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. Is there any way I can fix this issue? I'm guessing people will recommend updating Fedora, but is there another way?

• Jquery Mobile is adding text above my "<input type=submit"> automatically, how do i prevent this?

  I've just begin work on a mobile version for one of my sites. I've set up my sign up form for my users. It worked fine and the CSS styled it correctly. @using (Html.BeginForm("XXX", "Registration", FormMethod.Post, new { @class = "twitter-sign-in-container" })) { <input type="submit" name="twitter-button" value="Sign in with Twitter" id="twitter-button" /> } Once I added Jquery mobile to the project if found that random unstyled text started to show up. On inspection I found that all input submits where being wrapped in new tags and adding un tagged text == to the inputs "Value": <form action="/registration/xxx" class="twitter-sign-in-container" method="post"> <div class="ui-btn ui-input-btn ui-corner-all ui-shadow"> "Sign in with Twitter" <input type="submit" name="twitter-button" value="Sign in with Twitter" id="twitter-button"> </div> </form> Does anyone have any clue as to why the "sign up with twitter" text is being added, and how i stop it? P.S Less important but I'd also like to know why Jquery wraps form contents in the bellow div.

• Why does LogonUser place user profiles in c:\users of the server?

  We have developed a ASP.NET web application and has implemented a custom authentication solution using active directory as the credentials store. Our front end application uses a normal login form to capture the user name and password and leverages the Win32 LogonUser method to authenticate the user’s credentials. When we are calling the LogonUser method, we are using the LOGON32_LOGON_NETWORK as the logon type. The issue we have found is that user profile folders are being created under the C:\Users folder of the web server. The folder seems to be created when a new user who has never logged on before is logging in for the first time. As the number of new users logging into the application grows, disk space is shrinking due to the large number of new user folders getting created. Has anyone seen this behavior with the Win32 LogonUser method? Does anyone know how to disable this behavior? I have tried LOGON32_LOGON_BATCH but it was giving an error 1385 in authentication user. I need either of the solution 1) Is there any way to stop the folder generation. 2) What parameter I need to pass this to work? Thanks

The issue we have found is that user profile folders are being created under the C:\Users folder of the web server. The folder seems to be created when a new user who has never logged on before is logging in for the first time. As the number of new users logging into the application grows, disk space is shrinking due to the large number of new user folders getting created. Has anyone seen this behavior with the Win32 LogonUser method? Does anyone know how to disable this behavior? I have tried LOGON32_LOGON_BATCH but it was giving an error 1385 in authentication user. I need either of the solution 1) Is there any way to stop the folder generation. 2) What parameter I need to pass this to work? Thanks

  is it possible to create a timer where I can manually set the hours each day to a set number of hours but still remains accurate? For example; if I set the countdown for 5 hours at 2pm I want the timer to stop as soon as it hits 7pm. Also, when I set the timer for 5 hours I would like everyone in the world to see it countdown from 5 hours, no matter what the time is in their country. In the format: days hours minutes seconds. The reason I want to do this is for a streamer's website. He needs a flexible timer which can be manually changed and is the same worldwide for his viewers to know when he starts streaming. • Applying jQuery attr value to new DOM elements (result of AJAX query)

  Hello everyone, I have a div on a page whose contents is replaced by an AJAX request when the user selects an option from a select list. When the page loads, I issue a command to disable the autocomplete feature for all of the pages text input elements: //Stop that pesky browser autocomplete $('input[type=text]').attr("autocomplete", "off"); However, when new elements appear in the div after an AJAX call, this line of code does not reference them because they were not part of the original DOM (when the page was loaded). I have tried appending the autocomplete line to the end of the post function: //AJAX Post request that changes the fields in the address div for each different country $("div#address select#country").live("change", function() { $.post("<?php print($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']); ?>", { country: $(this).val() }, function(data) { $('div#address').html(data); }, "text"); $('div#address input[type=text]').attr("autocomplete", "off"); }); But for some reason it does not work and the autocomplete pops up when text is entered into any of the address fields. As far as I am aware I cannot use .live() to select the input elements because changing an attribute is not classed as an event. So can anyone advise me how to modify the attributes of a newly created DOM element?
