• My Linux desktop sees my HDMI-connected monitor, but my monitor says "No signal"

  I have a Gigabyte H55M-UD2H motherboard and an Acer S271HL monitor. When I connect the monitor to the motherboard via VGA, signal works perfectly. When I connect the monitor via HDMI, the system "sees" the connection, but the monitor receives no signal (the monitor shows a blue box which reads "No Signal" and then the monitor goes into power-saving state). • Detect user logout / shutdown in Python / GTK under Linux - SIGTERM/HUP not received

  OK this is presumably a hard one, I've got an pyGTK application that has random crashes due to X Window errors that I can't catch/control. So I created a wrapper that restarts the app as soon as it detects a crash, now comes the problem, when the user logs out or shuts down the system, the app exits with status 1. But on some X errors it does so too. But not on my System. GDM doesn't care about the script at all, when I relog, it's still running. I've also tried using shopt -s huponexit, with no success. EDIT2: Also here's some more information aboute the real code, the whole thing looks like this: Wrapper Script, that catches errors and restarts the programm -> Main Programm with GTK Mainloop -> Background Updater Thread The flow is like this: Start Wrapper -> enter restart loop while restarts < max: -> start program -> check return code -> write error to file or exit the wrapper on 0 Now on shutdown, start program return 1. That means either it did hanup or the parent process terminated, the main problem is to figure out which of these two did just happen. X Errors result in a 1 too. • Auto showing tips and closing popup when lost focus

  I have two elements: a TextBox, and a Popup, where the popup contains a tree view to show some tips according to text of TextBox. When the textBox got the KeyDown Event, the KeyDown directly executes pup.IsOpen=true to show the popup tips. However, I also want to show the popup tips when the mouse on clicking the TextBox, and auto closing the popups when the mouse click on any place (besides the TextBox and the TreeView in Popup). I have tried some cases but do not works fine. Case1: Add pup.IsOpen=true; in TextBox.PreviewMouseUp, the popup will stay opening, even if I click any other place in the window. Case2: Add pup.IsOpen=true in TextBox.PreviewMouseDown, the popup tips only shows on keep clicking the Mouse. Case3: Using CheckBox with Binding IsChecked to Popup.IsOpen works fine. but the tips is listed according to the content of the TextBox, therefore the checkbox is not editable for user... I need to somehow create an itemHtml object that applies just to the current item in the foreach loop. I'm not sure how to do this, however, because the constructors for HtmlHelper don't take a Model object. How do I solve these two problems?

• Auto populate input based on file name with AngularJS

  I am playing around with AngularJS and have not been able to solve this problem. I have a view that has a form to upload a file to a node server. So far I have manage to do this using some directives and a service. I allow the user to send a custom name to the POST data if they desire. What I wan to accomplish is that when the user selects a file the filename models auto populates. My view looks like: <div> <input file-model="phpFile" type="file"> <input name="filename" type="text" ng-model="filename"> <button ng-click="send()">send</button> </div> file-model is my directive that allows the file to be assigned to a scope. myApp.directive('fileModel', ['$parse', function($parse) { return { restrict: 'A', link: function(scope, element, attrs) { var model = $parse.(attrs.fileModel); var modelSetter = model.assign; element.bind('change', function() { scope.$apply(function() { modelSetter(scope, element[0].files[0]); }); }); } }]); The service: myApp.service('fileUpload', ['$http', function($http){ this.uploadFileToUrl = function(file, uploadUrl, optionals) { var fd = new FormData(); fd.append('file', file); for (var key in file) { fd.append(key, file[key]); } for(var i = 0; i < optionals.length; i++){ fd.append(optionals[i].name, optionals[i].data); } }); }]); Here as you can see I pass the file, append its properties, and append any optional properties. In the controller is where I am having the troubles. So, I'd like to replace var items = (IQueryable<TestProj.ViewModels.TestViewModel>)Model; with var items = (IQueryable<T>)Model; or something to that effect. A property Html is automatically created for me when the view is created, but this HtmlHelper applies to the whole collection. I need to somehow create an itemHtml object that applies just to the current item in the foreach loop. I'm not sure how to do this, however, because the constructors for HtmlHelper don't take a Model object. How do I solve these two problems?

• Ninject 3.0 MVC kernel.bind error Auto Registration

  Getting and error on kernel.Bind(scanner = ... "scanner" has the little error line under it in VS 2010. Cannot convert lambda expression to type 'System.Type[]' because it is not a delegate type Tyring to Auto Register like the old kernel.scan in 2.0. I can not figure out what i am doing wrong. • Div width: auto and IE

  I'm using the jQuery qTip to show individual users and their votes when an average rating is mousedover. qTip calls a PHP file which grabs all the users and votes for the item from the MySQL database and builds a 3 column table, which appears as the tooltip. In Firefox, the tooltip displays properly. In IE7 (haven't tested on IE8 yet), the tooltip is the proper height, but the width is only 2 or 3 characters - not the entire table. If I set the width of the div to a fixed number, say width: 300px; I can coax IE into displaying it properly. However, the length of my users' names varies considerably, and I'd rather not nail down the div to its maximum possible width and then have a crapload of whitespace when you look at an item voted on only by "Joe". Using width: auto; has no effect in IE7. Are there alternatives? Sorry if I've overlooked a similar question. I searched for a bit before posting but didn't find anything suitable. • Problem with incomplete type while trying to detect existence of a member function

  I was trying to detect existence of a member function for a class where the function tries to use an incomplete type. The typedef is struct foo; typedef std::allocator<foo> foo_alloc; The detection code is struct has_alloc { template<typename U,U x> struct dummy; template<typename U> static char check(dummy<void* (U::*)(std::size_t),&U::allocate>*); template<typename U> static char (&check(...))[2]; const static bool value = (sizeof(check<foo_alloc>(0)) == 1); }; So far I was using incomplete type foo with std::allocator without any error on VS2008. However when I replaced it with nearly an identical implementation as template<typename T> struct allocator { T* allocate(std::size_t n) { return (T*)operator new (sizeof(T)*n); } }; it gives an error saying that as T is incomplete type it has problem instantiating allocator<foo> because allocate uses sizeof. GCC 4.5 with std::allocator also gives the error, so it seems during detection process the class need to be completely instantiated, even when I am not using that function at all. What I was looking for is void* allocate(std::size_t) which is different from T* allocate(std::size_t). My questions are (I have three questions, but as they are correlated , so I thought it is better not to create three separate questions). Why MS std::allocator doesn't check for incomplete type foo while instantiating? Are they following any trick which can be implemented ? Why the compiler need to instantiate allocator<T> to check the existence of the function when sizeof is not used as sfinae mechanism to remove/add allocate in the overload resolutions set? It should be noted that, if I remove the generic implementation of allocate leaving the declaration only, and specialized it for foo afterwards such as struct foo{}; template< struct allocator { foo* allocate(std::size_t n) { return (foo*)operator new (sizeof(foo)*n); } }; after struct has_alloc it compiles in GCC 4.5 while gives error in VS2008 as allocator<T> is already instantiated and explicit specialization for allocator<foo> already defined. Is it legal to use nested types for an std::allocator of incomplete type such as typedef foo_alloc::pointer foo_pointer; ? Though it is practically working for me, I suspect the nested types such as pointer may depend on completeness of type it takes. It will be good to know if there is any possible way to typedef such types as foo_pointer where the type pointer depends on completeness of foo. NOTE : As the code is not copy paste from editor, it may have some syntax error. Will correct it if I find any. Also the codes (such as allocator) are not complete implementation, I simplified and typed only the portion which I think useful for this particular problem.

• How do I get my laptop's screen brightness settings back?

  From when I bought it up until yesterday, my laptop would dim the screen automatically if you let it sit for long enough, and then if you hit a key or moved the mouse, the brightness would jump back to what you had it at. I enjoy that behavior. It works well. Then I booted it up today, and found that now it will dim the screen automatically if you let it sit for long enough, but it doesn't restore the screen brightness. I have to do that manually, every single time, and it's getting really old really fast. It's an Alienware M17 running Windows 7 64-bit, in case that helps.

• Autologin 2 Windows users OR Login another user from the desktop

  I'm using two windows users on my HTPC at the same time. One is just for watching videos and one for administration via remote. This setup is quite ideal for me since windows can handle multiple concurrent logins and the win "rdp concurrent hack" (Google). The problem is, I want both users to be logged in automatically when the pc was started. It shall be possible to watch tv and also the admin user shall be automatically logged in to start my scripts and other tasks, even if I haven't logged in via remote desktop manually. Later, when I want to admin my htpc I can just rdp connect the admin user without interrupting the video playback on the actual HTPC's screen and check my cleanup tasks, downloads, ... witch already executed for this admin user. But right now I found no solution to automatically login user A from a user B desktop and I also found no solution to autologin both users immediately at startup. As a workaround I have to fire up my other notebook machine and login one time with the remote user via rdp. From this time on the remote admin user is running concurrent with the main user in the background of the machine. The other workaround would be... after startup switch user from main user to admin user and then back again. But that also requires manual steps. I'm on a Windows 8 System right now but all infos for Win7 or XP would be also interesting. thanks a lot for all ideas. PS: just to prevent useless posts... don't tell me that only one user can be logged in to windows. ;)

That is because everytime while I logout it will go to gdm(graphical display manager) and there it Again checks for account test. It is available right so it will again login to same account. Here I want add delay, that means it should wait for sometime, If no one login to any other account, then only test account will log. how to add delay?

• Mavericks: Safari does not login in into web services

  Since when I upgraded ML to Mavericks Safari is no longer able to log me into Facebook. When I go to the login page it suggests me the correct credentials, I hit the Login button, the page refreshes but nothing happens, like if the credentials where empty. Firefox works perfectly, I even logged out and back in to make sure the credentials are the same that Safari suggests, and so they are. Needless to say for a different user on the same Mavericks Safari logs in correctly. The same happens with most web pages that need a login, web mails for instances, I have tow accounts on different webmail providers and none of them works. Of course using the same mail services with POP3 works fine. Even on this very site I cannot post a thing with Safari, I'm going to switch to Firefox to be able to post this question. Again, Firefox or a different user are OK. Do you have any idea/suggestion?

• Does a lazy-programmer "document template" with tags exist for Windows?

  I was wondering (if possible) if there was a program/tool/utility that when I create a new file and provide it with an extension that it creates the tags automatically? For example, a new file I create called index.php would have the appropriate tags auto-generated inside: <?php ?> I hope you get the idea. Does one, or could one, exist, preferably Windows based? Any information regarding this would be helpful.
