Hi folks,
I am (was) using an install of Win7 on the C Disk Partition,
I formatted the D Disk Parition, and now Win7 fails to bootup.
I suspect the bootup config files were stored within the D Partition, despite the install residing on the C Partition.
This is the error I'm getting: Reboot and Select proper Boot device
Any ideas on how I can fix this? :)
Here are the specs to put things into context:
ECS P4M800PRO-M478 (V1.0)
Intel P4 "Northwood" 2.8C GHz (HT) Socket 478
2x 512 MB PC2-4200 DDR2-533 RAM
Visiontek Radeon HD 3650 512 MB DDR2 AGP
Maxtor 120 GB SATA HDD
The Best Power 500 W ATX PSU
Anyways, it's not booting Windows XP SP3 properly. Specifically, there is a sound when it fails to boot and the computer automatically restarts. You can listen to the sound here.
What could be the problem?
Hi All
If i have two hard disks with each hard disk having a single Windows XP installed on it. Each hard disk have multiple partitions.
My question is will there be a single boot.ini for all the hard disks and where will it be(first or second hard disk)?
Regards,
When I reboot my machine, it takes around 10-15 minutes to boot. Tried removing unused programs, disk defragmentation, check disk, but I'm not able to identify the issue.
Any ideas to troubleshoot to see whether there is any failure, trying to start a service/program?
my xp sp3 o/s system is alread set to boot from cd rom 1st, but once the bootable cd is found
and i get the "Press any key to Load " (or something like that) my keyboard and mouse will not
work until windows begins to load. Any ideas on why and what the fix may be?
I'm new to this application toucan manager. How do I use it to download mediafire files automatically. By just providing the links.
What link do I have to put in it?
This: http://www.mediafire.com/?yoqygwzsyem
Or this: http://download783.mediafire.com/yerhxuymxd3g/yoqygwzsyem/op-338-muxed.mp4
Because when I put the one with the .mp4, it checks the link endlessly.
And one more thing, I've seen something like: you have to agree first w/ mediafire's bla bla bla. When I try to check the mediafire icon in the toucan manager.
I have memcached (c:\memcached) running on port 11211 and I have a problem configuring IIS manager
I created a site in IIS manager binded to port 11211 and if I have memcached running and try and start the site it says "the process cant access the file because it is being used by another process"
If I stop memcached and start the site in IIS (and enable directory browsing) I can access the directory structure http://localhost:11211 ok, if I then try and start memcached it errors with error 1053 "could not start the memcached server on local computer"
I know I'm doing something fundamentally wrong here! just cannot figure out how I can use IIS and memcached together.
[edit]I should add that I need other servers to be able to access memcached[/edit]
After an update yesterday my Dell X300 will only boot to a screen with an option to perform 2 memory tests. If I perform these tests, it will only go back to this same screen, offering a choice of memory test again, 86+ or 86+ serial console 115200. This screen is headed - GNU Grub version 1.97 beta 4.
This is a full install on my hard drive.
How can I get back to booting normally?
My system doesn't boot at all, upon starting it takes me to the Windows Error Recovery screen saying "Windows failed to start, a recent software or hardware change might be the cause" and gives two options
Launch System Repair (Recommended)
Start Windows normally
But neither options work, upon clicking either of them, some progress bars get displayed and the screen just freezes on "Starting Windows".
I tried booting from the Windows 7 disk but it too freezes on the "Starting Windows" screen.
I even tried booting from ubuntu, slax linux, but they don't work too.
I just noticed this yesterday. I selected different memory columns, none of them worked, and I've tried showing processes from all users.
I'm using Win 7.
It doesn't slow down my computer or does anything else. I just want to know why and how to fix it.
Could anyone help me on this?
Thank you
cannot post pix :( it is like this: only shows K, without actual number

Is it possible to dual boot between Ubuntu and W7.vhd? If anyone knows please tell me how.
if you can answer to [email protected] would be perfect. Thanks
Hey guys,
Wondering if anyone has any ideas on what's causing my pc to lockup at the splash screen on bootup for 1-3minutes. This ONLY happens on the first power up, subsequent reboots run fine.
Running on a Falcon II SSD
I did the customary move of files to another drive when i first formatted the ssd. The slow first boot only started happening recently.
Thanks in advance!
I read somewhere that the ultimate boot cd can diagnos computer problems in this case would this program help me get my windows xp back? When I turn on the screen and hit start windows normal or go to safe mode I get a flash of the win xp logo and then it goes to this error page. Can you tell from this message is it a hardware or software issue
I would like to create an alternative booting possibility in my GRUB menu that does not start some services (listed by chkconfig) like cups.
I would use this boot during travel where I surely does not need these services and shorter bootup time is preferable. Permanent removal of such services is not an option because I could not miss them during normal daily work.
I use Mandriva 2010 with the latest updates.
I currently have a laptop with Windows Vista, and I'd like to upgrade to Windows 7 and also install Ubuntu Linux as dual boot. I need to make disk partitions used by Windows smaller to make room for Linux.
What is easiest way to upgrade? Should I resize Vista partition first to make room for linux installation, or should I upgrade first to Windows 7 and resize partitions after upgrade.
When I boot Mint in recovery profile it says something about a bug, then it freezes on the line:
Firmware bug DOD is defined but not DOS
I want to access it because I need to restore it like it was the first time I used it. I am suspecting it may be something about the drivers.
Is there any way to restore my system?
Here are my pc specifications:
Dell XPS 15z
Intel core i7
6 gb Ram
Im using linux mint, maya, cinnamon

Whenever I open the task manager, within a few seconds it crashes, saying it has stopped working with the above report.
I took the fault module (hostv32.dll) and scanned it with avast but it found no threat. I also ran a SFC /scannow from an elevated command prompt and it didn't find any corrupted files. This problem is in all two user accounts in this computer (Windows 7). There was one time where task manager seemed to work, but when I closed it and opened it again, it crashed. Any reason/solution to this problem?
I am getting the UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME error on my Samsung laptop which does not have a CD Rom drive. I tried to merge the C and D partitions to get more space but since then the laptop does not start up anymore.
I dont care about the laptop, just about some pictures on there which I did not back up yet. I really hope someone can help me?!!
I am a new user, so cant post pictures, but can send a screenshot if needed.
I have copied an ISO file into a partition (i.e. dd if=isofile of=/dev/sdb1). How can I boot into that partition via GRUB?
When I try just with chainloader (hd1,0)+1, it says unknown executable format.
This is mostly just for the USB ports, as I recognize everything else in computers....
Anyways, is there a way to rename, or otherwise, identify which USB port (or other hardware for that matter) is which device in Device Manager? I know I can plug in a flash drive, then see what port it is connected with, and find out that way. What I would like though, is to find out that a certain plug is always a certain device in Device Manager. If I can then have a system in mind that always has the same order, I can look and see if a USB port is not being detected or not working properly, and as I uninstall/reinstall USB devices, I know I won't lose my keyboard or mouse, for example.
The OS in question currently is Windows 7, but I would accept a solution for ANY version of Windows

I deploy my Windows 7 with imagex.exe. I do this by means some batch script :
Win7_install.bat:
cls
Diskpart /s Win7_install.txt
Imagex /apply Win7_October.wim 1 C:
Bcdboot C:\Windows
Exit
Win7_install.txt:
SELECT DISK 0
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400
SELECT PARTITION 1
FORMAT fs=ntfs LABEL=”SYSTEM” quick
ASSIGN LETTER=C
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 2
FORMAT fs=ntfs LABEL=”DATA” quick
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE
EXIT
Then after restart I have duplicate entries in boot menu. Anybody have some idea how fix it?
