• Glitch with updated nvidia drivers for Dual Monitor

  Same problem already happened once so I rolled back to the latest non-problematic version, but it's been months now and I thought to try gain. Still the same problem, so now I thought to ask for help rather than rollback to this, now very old, version. Currently I use 266.58 version drivers for Windows 7 x64 and GeForce GTX 275. (Downloaded from the nvidia website) I have two monitors, Samsung SyncMaster 223BW (LCD) is primary and LG F900B (CRT, old but still works) is secondary. The problem: when I turn off the monitors (both or just secondary) all of the windows that were on the secondary monitor get moved to the primary. This also occurs when I use Sleep. Again, in the old drivers this didnt happen, but now it does and is very annoying, requiring me to manually move the windows back to the secondary monitor (which I use for most of the windows). I had no luck searching for this on google, but maybe somebody here will have a useful suggestion.

• Specifying an Internal (LAN) DNS Server in Netgear DGND3700 (N600) router

  I have a DNS server running on a linux machine on my LAN which has domains for a few devices in my LAN. The resolve.conf file has google and the isp nameservers in it, as well as itself. Dunno if that helps or hinders but this setup has worked for years. I used to have a Thomson 585 ADSL router where I set the internal DNS Server as the primary DNS and the ISPs DNS server as the secondary. True enough all connected devices could access domains specified in the internal DNS. Recently I had to replace the Thomson router with a Netgear DGND3700 (N600) ADSL router. The problem is that if I specify the internal DNS server in this router, I lose internet connection as well as connection to the router itself. Does anyone know how I can use the internal DNS as the primary in the router?

• How to automatically disable secondary monitor in Windows 7

  My primary monitor is attached to my onboard video card. My secondary monitor is attached to my PCI-E card. When I first start my computer, only the primary monitor is on, and it is the only monitor that is recognized. While I'm in Windows 7, if I turn on my secondary monitor, Windows 7 automatically detects it, and expands my desktop to stretch across both monitors. But if I turn off the secondary monitor, Windows 7 doesn't automatically disable it. Is there a way I can get it to automatically disable when I turn it off, or is there a utility that makes it easier to disable it instead of having to go to screen resolution?

• Is it possible to fake a Windows install for grub to add to boot menu?

  When doing a fresh install of a Linux distro (Ubuntu, for instance) on a fresh hard drive, if I want to install Linux first, and Windows later, is it possible to make grub think there's a Windows install on the first partition so that it'll be added to the boot menu after the installation is complete? To illustrate, I have a new hard drive and have created two primary partitions (both still raw) and two logical (Ext4 and Swap). I want to install Ubuntu on the Ext4 partition first, and some version of Windows on the first primary partition only after that (because I currently don't have a Windows install disk, but do have one for Ubuntu). Is it possible to make Ubuntu add an entry for Windows right now and avoid having to repair grub after I've installed Windows?

• Automatically keeping two excel data tables in-sync (w/out VBA)

  I'm putting together a workbook for tracking a stock portfolio. The primary sheet contains a table with the list of the transactions. From this I would like to create an overview table on another sheet with only one row per unique stock symbol that includes things like cost basis, returns, etc. The problem is that nothing I've tried updates the overview table correctly when rows are added to the transaction table. And even then the range of the table isn't extended down to include new rows as they become valid. Essentially I'm looking for a way that auto-adds rows to a table and copies the formula based on a different table changing without using VBA.   I've got an old laptop that is running Windows 2000 & Windows 98 in a multi-boot configuration. I need to add MS-DOS to that list of startup options. I've already added a primary partition, formatted it for FAT16 and made it bootable, and installed MS-DOS 6.22. My question is, how do I add my MS-DOS partition to the list of startup options? More information: My single hard drive has three primary partitions: 0: FAT32 Windows 2000 1: FAT32 Windows 98 2: FAT(16) MS-DOS 6.22 Currently, the boot-up screen lists Windows 2000 and Windows 98 as options, with Windows 2000 as the default choice. • Run a BitLocker protected Windows 7 installation on VirtualBox from physical drive

  I have a broken laptop with its hard drive intact. I'll be getting it repaired in a few days but I must continue my work possibly uninterrupted, so I chose to run the OS in another working laptop (I can't just transfer documents). My question is really simple: Can I create a virtual machine in VirtualBox (under Linux) that uses the physical hard drive mentioned above which is encrypted with BitLocker? I have the restore key at hand, of course. I wouldn't like to mount the hard disk as primary hard disk for laptop (and run 7 as primary OS), but that could be the final choice if virtualizing is not an option. Thank you.

  I'm setting up an autoinst.xml file for auto-installing SLES 11. I get prompted for the various interface settings per below, but they don't seem to stick once the server reboots. I don't think I have the xml defined correctly. • iPod Nano 5th gen Album Artwork

  I am an album artwork fan. I just got all of these brand new alternate artwork covers for my albums and singles. Eventually, i got bored of them, and i wanted the original ones back. So i got on iTunes, and changed the original album covers to the primary covers. I synced my ipod, but it still showed the new covers on it, not the originals. I figured a temporary way to fix it, by deleting the new covers i got, making the originals the default. There has to be an easier way, though. p.s. this also works in vice-versa. I will add the new covers, but before i exit, i change the primary cover to the original. When i change it back to the new one, my iPod will still only show the original Thanks for helping!

• How to backup/restore OSX Parental Controls before/after complete reimage?

  We typically "nuke and pave" users Mac OSX laptops if they have software issue. Prior to doing so, we backup the primary (non-admin) user's home folder. Our standard image has four accounts: Admin (uber admin user); Parent (admin account for the parents of students); Loaner (so our standard image will also work for our loaner laptop pool); Student (this is the primary, non-admin user of the laptop) Our standard image has only minimal Parental controls on the Loaner and Student accounts. Some parents choose to tighten the parental controls. We never know when parents have made changes to parental controls, or what those changes are. Once we have reimaged the machine with our standard image (minimal parental controls) we would like to be able to restore any custom parental controls parents may have placed on their student's account. Any help in this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Attahed to this vm is 2 x 1.95T RDM's I select disk 1 create partition primary size=1 (1MB) then list partition Partition ### Type Size Offset * Partition 1 Primary 1024 KB 1024 KB Then I do the same for the other disk and offset is 1024KB I need to present 4T disk to this vm so I right click on disk 1 convert to simple volume then extend it by adding the second disk now when I do list partition, I see the off set is set to 31k. • Migrating Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 (migrate all FSMO too)

  I own 2 server with Windows 2008 R2, both DC. The first one is of course the Primary DC (with all FSMO). What I would like to do is ro dcdemote the 2nd DC, remove it from domain and replace the Windows 2008 r2 with 2012. I will then rejoin this 2nd DC (with the new 2012 server) to domain and dcpromo it (Server Management). After this is a new DC I would like to temporary transfer all the FSMO to this server, while I'm doing the same operation on what is actually the Primary DC. Is this a stupid solution? What I would like to do is a clean installation, I don't want to upgrade directly those systems. Suggestions? Ideas? Thanks, Mauro

• MySQL replication not working on leap day

  Though out of my "core" knowledge I maintain a two-way replicated MySQL database (primary and backup). It's been working fine mostly. All changes are almost instantly replicated between the two servers. But now I've noticed something strange: I have a couple of cases where there are no replication on feb 29th. Admittedly I have not yet confirmed that all replication is lost. But all cases I've found so far have had this issue. Not too long ago I changed timezone from UTC to CET on the backup, it has been CET on the primary all along. Am I fixating on this because it happened on the leap day, or could there be something to it? The servers are both CentOS 5.4 with MySQL 5.0

  I have two machines, each configured identically as a firewall/load balancer for a busy website. I have set them up with CARP and pfsync on both the internal and external interfaces. That said our primary feature that we use google apps calendar for is sharing calendars. Best way to using office 2011... To sync calendars with an iPhone? To sync/share calendars between users? To sync contacts with an iphone? To sync/share contacts with between users? Users are on other computers and mostly work from home Needs to be fool proof once setup :-) I am not fond of the idea of syncing outlook with Mac address book and ical then to the iphone.

• Is there a way to batch create DNS slave zones on a new slave DNS server?

  I currently have a DNS server which is serving as a master DNS server for a number of our domains. I want to set up a brand new secondary DNS server. Is there any way I can automatically have BIND on the new server act as a secondary for all the domains on the primary server? In case it matters, I have Webmin on the primary server. I believe Webmin has an option to create a zone as a secondary on another server when creating a new master zone on one server, but I don;t know of any way to batch create secondary zones for a number of existing master zones. Maybe I'm missing something. Is there a way to "batch create" DNS slave zones on a brand new slave DNS server for all the DNS zones on an existing master?

• Multiple Subnets on home network... would this work?

  We are looking at renting out the basement suit in our home and want to offer internet as part of the package. I however do not want the downstairs tennent to have access to our network (home office = private data). We currently have a pfsense firewall as our gateway and a Windows Server 2003 box is doing our primary DHCP (192.168.0.0/24) and DNS. Here's what I'd like to do... I'd like to setup another subnet on the DHCP server (192.168.1.0/24), and hook in another wireless router (as access point only) and address it as 192.168.1.1... from there the router will hook into our primary switch and then out through the firewall. Will Server 2003 (If I add a 192.168.1.x/24 IP to the nic) serve DHCP to the devices that connect to the new router, and will it isolate that from our network? Thanks in advance... • How do we keep Active Directory resilient across multiple sites?

  I handle much of the IT for a company of around 100 people, spread across about five sites worldwide. We're using Active Directory for authentication, mostly served to Linux (CentOS 5) systems via LDAP. We've been suffering through a spate of events where the IP tunnel between the two major sites goes down and the secondary domain controller at one site can't contact the primary domain controller at the other. It seems that the secondary domain controller starts denying user authentication within minutes of losing connectivity to the primary. How do we make the secondary domain controller more resilient to downtime? Is there a way for it to cache the entire directory and/or at least keep enough information locally to survive a multi-hour disconnection? (We're all in a single organizational unit if that makes any difference.) (The servers here are Windows Server 2003; don't assume that we set this up correctly. I'm a software engineer, not an IT specialist.)

• Resizing Partitions on Live RHEL/cPanel Server

  I've resized many partitions over the years on Linux, Windows and Mac OS X -- but always using a GUI. However, the time has come where the preset partition sizes my data center placed on my server aren't the right sizes and I need to resize a production server's disks. I could fiddle with it and probably do OK, but given that it is a production server, I wanted to get some advice about the right way to do this. I do have KVM over IP access, so if it is best to take the server offline and boot off a rescue partition, I can do that. root [/var/lib/mysql]# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda2 9.9G 2.1G 7.3G 23% / tmpfs 7.8G 0 7.8G 0% /dev/shm /dev/sda1 99M 77M 18M 82% /boot /dev/sda8 884G 463G 376G 56% /home /dev/sda3 9.9G 8.0G 1.5G 85% /usr /dev/sda5 9.9G 9.1G 308M 97% /var /usr/tmpDSK 2.0G 38M 1.8G 3% /tmp As you can see /var and /usr are quite close to being full and I've actually had to symlink some logs on /usr to directories in /home to balance things out. What I would like to do is to add 6-10 GB each to /usr and /var, presumably taking the space from /home. As I think about how the disk is arranged, the best thought I've come up with is to reduce /home by 16 GB, say, and move /var to the spot freed up, then allocating /var's space to /usr. However, that would put /var at the far end of the disk, which seems less than idea, given that MySQL has all of its data on that partition. I'd love to take the space out of the closer end of /usr, but I assume that would take a very arduous (and perhaps risky) process of moving all of the data in /usr around. I seem to recall having such a process fail for me on a computer in the past. The other option might be to merge / and /usr since / is underutilized, though I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Do you have any suggestions both on the best reallocation plan and the commands to use to accomplish it? UPDATE: I should add -- here's the partition table. • Only two monitor ports are detected on nVidia Quadro NVS 450

  I have an nVidia Quadro NVS 450 installed in a Dell Optiron 380. Only DisplayPort #1 and DisplayPort #4 are detected by windows. The machine has a BIOS setting to automatically choose the primary video card, or to disable the primary when a PCI-e card is installed (which it is). Windows cannot see DisplayPort #2 and #3 no matter what I do. I have tried the Windows Drivers, latest nVidia Drivers - no dice. I am assured that this video card cannot break in this way. I'm plum out of ideas. I've tried reseating the video card. I've contacted Dell and they've remoted in and looked around - threw their arms up after two hours. Any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. All four monitors are 1600x1200 Dell monitors.

  My office PC has a one wireless network card and there are three available wifi connections: primary, backup and backup of a backup (grin). Is it possible for me to use all three simultaneously. If this results in an increase in bandwidth that's well and good, but primary reason is every now and then one of the network fails and i have to switch back and forth between the available networks by disconnecting, viewing available networks and connecting to next one hoping its running. Do i need more than one network card or a software e.g. a proxy.

• Delivering from Postfix to Exchange

  I have someone with two domains, a.com and b.com. a.com is running a postfix server on the mx host for the domain and I have total control of the server. b.com is running an exchange server on the mx host for the domain and I do not have any control of this server. They have been using b.com as their primary mail address and use the exchange calender with outlook. They want all the same functionality but want to start using a.com as primary mail address. I opened up postfix to allow relay from the ip address of the exchange server and hopefully that's enough from the outgoing side. For delivery though what can I do to forward all incoming emails to the exchange server? I have some aliases defined in /etc/aliases that should take higher priority.
