• DNS and IPs - Does DNS send the IP back to the client?

  I ran across a site that talked about routing all cients requesting by IP to a "dead end." The clients accessing the site via ip it claimed were typically automated exploit tools and bots. Legitimate users type in the web address by it's domain question. With this context in mind, I don't really understand how DNS really works. I thought it worked by sending an IP back to a client for the requested DNS (like a phone book.) The client then uses the IP to access the site. • Bootcamp's "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys" switches back automatically

  I use Windows 7 in a Bootcamp partition on my iMac. I always check the option "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys", and when it's checked, everything works great. But recently, something switches this setting back to 'unchecked' every few minutes. I constantly have to open the Boot Camp Control Panel, uncheck the checkbox, check it again and click on 'Apply'. And five minutes later, the F2 key again controls the brightness of the screen and not the renaming of files in Explorer. This is driving me mad. What could be the cause of this? Is there a keystroke to switch this feature?

• Favicon on gmail has changed from the envelope to a black gun. How do i change it back and why did i

  I think my gmail account might have been hacked because I've recently noticed a change in the favicon displayed in the url and the tab, when I logged onto my gmail account. It used to be the common red and white envelope and now it's a black gun. Can anyone tell if this is enough to conclude that my account has been hacked or tampered with? I know someone that would be capable and most probably willing to cause problems to my account among other things. This would be my opsessive ex who's best friend is a hacker. Can anyone help? I need to know if someone has reigns to my computer. And how do I change the favicon back to its orginial image? The black gun really bothers me. Thanks everyone!!!

  Hi everybody, My host relay is working but I was aksed to add a new domain (like external.example.com). I have added in main.cf the new fqdn in relay_domains relay_domains = $mydestination, example.com,example2.com, externe.example.com and in transport example.com smtp:[192.168.1.22] example2.com smtp:[192.168.1.22] external.example.com smtp:[192.168.1.22] Mails sent to users with example.com and example2.com domain are well delivered. But for mails to external.example.com i got this message Mar 17 16:47:52 relayhost postfix/smtp[11948]: 754E1876A01: to=<[email protected]>, relay=relayhost2.example.com[80.81.82.83]:25, delay=19555, delays=19525/0.01/30/0, dsn=4.4.6, status=deferred (mail for external.example.com loops back to myself) I read another Q/A about the same issue right here, but it's not helping me. • I used "autoconf6" (used to configure IPV6) on an AIX 6 target and I don't know how to change it back.

  So I got curious and ran autoconf6 and now I can't figure out how to undo the changes that were made. I have tried using smitty to modify the en0 interface but have had no luck getting it back to it's old configuration. • How do I back up my Windows partition from an Ubuntu live CD?

  My Windows partition (C:) is corrupt. I'm booting up from an Ubuntu live CD and trying to copy all the files from C: to my external drive, but the system expands all of the links, producing a projected copy size of 1.8TB (my external drive is just 1TB, and the data in c: is around 700MB). Then I looked at dd and other backup utilities. Anything I looked into, I couldn't figure out whether or not the image would be readable in Windows through any other app. Has anyone else tried to back up data from a corrupted Windows installation using Ubuntu?

• How do I revert back to official Linksys firmware from dd-wrt on WRT56G2 v1?

  I've been having trouble with dd-wrt on my Linksys WRT56G2 v1 router and want to go back to the stock Linksys firmware for it. The router has only 2MB of flash memory, and so I'm running the 'micro' version of dd-wrt. My question is what is the best way to do that? I could use the http://router/Upgrade.asp dd-wrt "firmware upgrade" web interface to do it, in which case there's a dropdown menu choice for "After flashing, reset to": "don't reset" or "reset to default settings". Which should I pick? Some people say that I should use a program called tftp.exe instead. I can probably gain access to a Windows machine if this is necessary. Which of these is the way to proceed? I don't want to brick the router if at all possible! Note: I used the 'wrt54g' tag because I wasn't allowed to create a 'wrt54g2' tag due my low rep here.

• When send a meeting invite to a specific user, you get a undeliverable response back from another us

  We have a user, where it doesn't matter who sends it, but if you send her a meeting invite through outlook (exchange 2007), you get a non-deliverable message back from another user. Same one all the time though. I checked her shared calendar properties and removed the user from the list. I checked and made sure she wasn't using cache mode. I checked the manage full permissions and send permissions within exchange and the user is not listed. What am I missing? Notes: Using Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007 on a XP box and Server 2008.

When I checked on my computer the Hard drive was no longer a shared media device but now it was a computer on the network. • Can I change a MySQL table back and forth between InnoDB and MyISAM without any problems?

  I have a site with a decently big database, 3Gb in size, a couple of tables with a dozen million records. It's currently 100% on MyISAM, and I have the feeling that the server is going slower than it should because of too much locking, so I'd like to try going to InnoDB and see if that makes things better. However, I need to do that directly in production, because obviously without load this doesn't make any difference. However, I'm a bit worried about this, because InnoDB actually has potential to be slower, so the question is: If I convert all tables to InnoDB and it turns out i'm worse off than before, can I go back to MyISAM without losing anything? Can you think of any problems I might encounter? (For example, I know that InnoDB stores all data in ONE big file that only gets bigger, can this be a problem?) Thank you very much Daniel

• Why does my win7 back ground and theme settings reset to default after every reboot ?

  I have the new ASUS G73. Everything is perfect, but for unknown reasons to me after customizing the background and theme colors, rebooting resets all these back to default (the theme that originally came with the laptop) Is there a way to stop this madness? Is there some kind of configuration reset app that runs on start up for ASUS computers? This is my first ASUS so I don't know what to expect with the factory bloatware.   After I have installed the newest Ubuntu LTS release (12.04, still in beta though) I am greeted with an unfamiliar and difficult to use desktop environment. I believe it is called unity. However I have used gnome for a decade and a half and I would not like to move to this new and (for me) unusable desktop environment. What is a quick and easy way to remove (most) of unity and bring back gnome, as well as configure my display manager to load gnome by default with the environment as close as possible to the way it was before?

  We had an employee leave today and I disabled their account. For clarification I right click the user in the Exchange Management Console and clicked "Disable." I got a message that said "Disabling the mailbox will remove the Exchange properties from the Windows user object and mark the mailbox in the database for removal. Are you sure you want to disable 'Users Name'? I clicked "yes" and not 60 seconds later I was asked to just change the password temporarily. Can I get this account back?

  I have potentially a big mess in my hands: I received today a box with several hard drives that used to be connected to different servers each one of them using an unknown - at least as of right now- RAID configuration. Regretfully, these are not marked and I'm not sure how to go about putting them back into their original servers. Currently I don't have much more information: I don't know what type of array was being used on each instance and I don't have any specifics about the RAID controller originally used on each one of the servers (currently these servers are at a remote location with no easy access). Is there a way to sort through this mess? What would be the consequences of using trial and error to go about it? This might be a very basic question but I don't have much experience dealing with RAID arrays.

  As of today's release of chrome (Tuesday, March 8, 2011) on both Mac & PC the settings are now in a tab (chrome://settings/advanced), needless to say when you're clearing your cache very frequently (cmd-shift-delete on mac, cntl+shift+delete on PC) it's quite tedious going back and forth in tabs. The click & clean chrome extension doesn't have a mac counterpart (plus I like the keyboard much more than the mouse). I've searched and have yet to find a way to get a dialog box instead of the new tab.

• App to watch installer and roll back host later?

  I'm looking for a Windows application that can watch everything an install programs does to Windows, and can roll it back to what it was like before installing an application. InCtrl5 is useful to know what an installer did, but doesn't provide a way to return the host to its previous state. I'd like to avoid having to restore a host using eg. CloneZilla just for a small application. The goal is to make it fast to test an application in a test lab. Does someone know of an application that can do this? Edit: I wasn't specific enough: I need a way to totally remove an application but keep all other changes I made after installing the application. Edit: After checking a few of them, I settled on Cleanse Uninstaller, which was capable of removing the whole of an application, although it doesn't watch when it's installed.

• Why do mapped drives only reappear after logging out and back in, and not after a reboot?

  I work in a corporate environment, where we use mostly Windows 7 Professional computers, though some legacy applications are still being run on Windows XP. We have security in place on the network not to allow access to network resources to computers that are not members of Active Directory. When logging in, our users get their home folder and a common network drive mapped to H: and F:, respectively. Sometimes, this does not happen, and the drives are not mapped. The solution is to have the user log off, and back in to Windows. If they reboot, the drives remain unmapped. Does anyone know why this may be?

• Getting back the old alt-tab windows switching behavior in Windows 7?

  When you run more than 6 applications on Windows 7 and you press alt-TAB, icons representing the first 6 applications and the desktop appear on the first row of the grid and you can cycle with alt-TAB-TAB... through the 6 most recently used windows the usual way, but the 7th and other less recently used windows don't follow the same rules. Instead they get grouped together according to their application but disregarding whether they were recently used or not. This new behavior is mentioned here. I am very used to the old way of cycling and the new system is driving me crazy. I tend to have 20 or so windows open at one time and I frequently need to alt-tab to the 7th or 8th window on the stack but it doesn't work the same anymore. Does anyone know how to put back the old behavior, so that alt-tab-tab-tab... goes through the whole list in most-recent to least-recent order?

  I have this annoying little problem on my laptop that sometimes after I have used a external monitor (with higher resolution) some applications place them self outside the visible area of my desktop. So the question is how do I move them back into the visible area? (Please note, no part of the window is visible so I can't use the mouse.)   When I move or delete files, they occasionally appear right back where they were a day later. Also, when I move files, they not only re-appear where I moved them from, they are also where I moved them to as well. Is my system duplicating files? It seems so. This problem has been occurring randomly, but with increasing regularity. Most of the issues are with downloaded music and image files, but it has happened occasionally with Word documents as well. Also, some of my desktop icons have reappeared after I have moved or deleted them. I have run extensive system scans for malware, viruses and the sort but nothing pops up. Is there something wrong with my settings or is there another problem? I use Windows 7, SP 1 with all current updates, and have a few other issues. I was worried that perhaps some of my settings were incorrect.

• I have to manually enter the pwd when I login at school and when I come back home with my laptop (DELL E6410)

  I didn't have to do this the first 3 months of me going to school. My laptop used to be able to connect to my Home WiFi and school Wifi automatically then after the 3rd month something changed and eversince then I literally have to manually enter each of the Wifi passwords in each location each time I try to connect to their respective WLAN. I tried adding each WiFi networks in the "Manage wireless networks" section in the Network and Sharing Center but everytime I login to one of the location, the created network disappears and I did this more than once. I tried restoring the OS back but to no avail. Can someone please assist me on this issue. I'm not sure if this issue has been addressed in this website but I haven't seen any similar question in here. I appreciate any help anyone may be able to share.

• What happened to the ability to go back in a already-loaded YouTube video?

  For many years, my experience with YouTube had been, consistently and on any computer/browser, that once a section of that video were loaded, or the whole video, if you wanted to see an earlier part of the video again, you could simply click on the loading bar to that area and you would instantly go to that part. More recently (6 months?) this has changed. Now, clicking in an earlier part of the video forces a reload of the whole video (that is, the grey bar goes back to 0) and you have to hope your loading will be fast enough to make waiting to watch it again even worth it. It is a huge regression in usability for me. Is there any way to watch YouTube videos in the "old way"? I use Firefox 17.0.1 at this point and have an updated (I think) Flash, but I'd be willing to try other browsers or versions if it made a difference.

  How can I make an app or maybe service that looks like (Nexus One touch buttons) for the navigation keys (Home, menu,Back, Search) The buttons should always be visibly and always stay on top and send the command to the app thats running. Someone have ideas and sample codes how to do that? * I see an app with name (Smart Taskmanager) wich always detect when you touch the right side of the screen and then detect when you slide the finger to left. So I think its possible, with this function I think its possible to implementate the code to simulate the (Home, Meny, Back, Search) buttons. * I also see and test an app wich show a "cracked display" always ontop so that tecnic maybe shold be useful to always show the buttons/bitmanp on top. Thoose function, to show the button and catch the "touch event" and send the event to the active program, thats what i dont can figure out how to do. Thats my thought! I Hope there are some deep developer wich know this solution! Regards Ken
