• Rainmeter customization issues, pretty basic

  I'll admit it; I'm new to using Rainmeter. What I want to do is create two panels (one left, the other on the right) that mirror one another. One side I want to work for the Eastern US while the other for the UK. I want to keep digital clocks, the same style etc., on both sides with their respective time zone. On top of this I want to have weather reports for the whole day (Current weather and temp, morning, afternoon, and night) for each location. However, I have not been able to find any skins which allow this. For whatever reason every time I try to load a skin for a clock I can only load it for one clock of that type and I'm having the same issue with the weather skins. Could anyone please tell me what skins I should look at and how to get a mirrored look?

• Multi sim GSM modem or alternative

  I'm trying to administer the SMS trafic of my businesss centrally through a web portal. In Europe (except UK) we don't have a numbers/SMS trafic provider like Twilio or Clickatell, nor any build in way to administer the SMS traffic for a number via http, so I will have to buy the long numbers and administer the SMS traffic myself. For this I was looking into a hardware solution for hosting all my SIM cards - I have like 400 sims cards (= numbers). I saw that GSM modems might fit in but they don't seem to scale up very well. Could you recommend me a GSM modem? If this is not the best way to approach this, what would my alternatives be? Thanks in advance

• Where can I get a metal mug to fit my USB mug warmer?

  I got one of these for Christmas (this exact model): But it doesn't work very well with normal ceramic mugs as they're too thick and insulated. What I really want is a mug like this that fits well and transmits the heat from the warmer to my drink (so no air gaps or thick bases): Where can I get a mug like the one pictured above from? I like in the UK but don't mind ordering from overseas. Update: I've tried camping mugs but they all seem to be too wide. I will measure the base later and post exact dimensions. I am really after the exact mug shown in the picture, it must exist somewhere?

• performance block countries using iptables /netfilter

  It's easy to block IPs from country using iptables (e.g. like http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/block-entier-country-using-iptables/). However I read that the performance can go down if the deny list get too large. An alternative is installing the iptables geoip patch or using ipset ( http://www.jsimmons.co.uk/2010/06/08/using-ipset-with-iptables-in-ubuntu-lts-1004-to-block-large-ip-ranges/) instead of iptables. Does anyone have experience with the various approaches and can say something about the performance differences ? Are there are other ways to block country IPs in linux which I did't mentioned above?

Before its fine i can ping google.co.uk after cant get out. Is there something wrong in my syntax here or what is the issue...? Im just trying to NAT my VPN so i can get internet access. • Can't communicate using PuTTY, but can with Termite

  I'm trying to establish a serial connection to a peripheral from my PC's RS-232 port. Pretty simple stuff, and I've had not trouble doing it with countless peripherals before. And yet when I configure PuTTY to the right baud rate, stop bits, etc. I'll type in "*IDN?", press enter, and the unit won't reply. After going over my settings over and over again, I decided to try another terminal program, Termite. This time it worked like a charm. What puzzles me, and what I'm trying to figure out by posting this question, is why Termite would work when PuTTY did not despite the fact that they both have the same settings. So PuTTY is the odd one out.

• Install Windows 8 64-bit over the top of Windows 8 32-bit

  I currently have Windows 8 32-bit installed from MSDN (I didn't realise at the time that my processor supports 64-bit). I understand that you can't upgrade within Windows 32-bit to 64-bit directly from the ISO. I have burned the ISO to a DVD, and have attempted booting from this drive. The problem I am encountering: The operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File: CI.dll Error code: 0xc0000221 You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer. • OSX Parallels 5 - can't share internet connection when using host-only networking...

  I've just upgraded from Parallels 3 to Parallels 5, but am having a problem matching my previous configuration. I am a web developer so run a local web server on my mac. I used to allow access to this from the virtual machines in Parallels by using 'Host-Only Networking' and then in OSX enabling internet sharing from my wifi/ethernet to the virtual ethernet ports that Parallels created. The setup was based on: http://www.craigfrancis.co.uk/features/setup/parallels/ The new version of Parallels doesn't create any network adaptors that are available for internet sharing in OSX - just VNIC's which only show under an ifconfig... • Calendar shows lighter/greyed out items

  Here's a screenshot of my Windows 8.1 Calendar. As you can see, some of the items appear lighter/greyed out (ie on the 15th, 21st). Why is this? I have not noticed any difference between these items, and none of the ideas I've had for why (ie items without a specific time are lighter) have fitted. My calendar is synced to hotmail. The calendar online (hotmail.co.uk). (There are a couple of new events, but nothing should have changed with the earlier ones.) This event appears lighter. But this event does not.

• Avoiding double NAT with PPPoA connection

  I've got an ASUS RT-N56U wending its way to me and have been thinking about how to set this up on my home network. I currently have a Netgear DG634g V5 and was hoping to use this device as a modem only, with everything else being done by the router. Problem is, my ISP uses PPPoA and the asus seems only to support PPPoE. I'm aware that a double NAT configuration should be avoided and I've seen some instructions here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/33700-17-ultimate-modem-router-setup-thread Specifically, I was going to follow the guidance in the section entitled "Chaining Two Networks Together In a Cascading Fashion (Modem handles PPPoA)". That seems like it could work. However, is this a double NAT configuration or even a good way to do it? Would UPnP still work? The other option, I understand, is to buy the Draytek Vigor 120 but I'd ideally like to avoid the cost of that if its not necessary.

• Using PowerShell, in Active Direcotry, how would I change all the DNS A records that have a given IP to a new IP?

  We've been moving data centers and I have a lot of old records that were not correctly but in DNS as CNAME records, but A records that have a direct IP (e.g. 192.168.100.n) and they're all moving to a new subnet (10.19.100.n). I just need to write a powershell script to change all those records. I don't understand how to iterate over all the entries in each of the zones. Also, all the examples I've seen involve adding new zones, but there aren't any examples I can find on modifying existing A records.

• Internet access using Edimax BR-6204WG as NIC

  My internet access at home is provided by Virgin Media via their superhub. I have a laptop with no NIC - however I do have a spare wireless router, the Edimax BR-6204WG, which I have been led to believe can be used to bridge wireless connections. Only problem is, I'm not sure how to go about doing this. • MacBook Pro 13 (mid 2010 model) - External Display Low Resolution

  I am trying to connect my ASUS VH242H (1920x1020), with my Macbook Pro. The laptop has a 320m nvidia and it should be more than enough to support an external display. I had my old laptop connected, (with a 9600mgt) and it worked fine.I am not mirroring the display I just want an extension ( if possible only the external display diplaying). • ISPs with good upload speeds? [closed]

  I am a web developer, and I spend most of my time not waiting for downloads but waiting for my latest build of a website to publish to a test site. I use the excellent BeyondCompare to ensure I only upload what I need to upload. But still, if a 2MB C# DLL has changed, so be it. And I must wait. At work we host our own servers and have a dedicated line, so for 8.5 hours of my day I have blistering upload speeds across the web, which is nice. At home however, it's a different story. I am with Virgin Media on their XL internet package (I think). I think that means I get 256Kb upload and 20Mb download. So I have began to wonder - are there any ISPs in the UK with good upload speeds? If you know of any for other countries, do post for other's sake, but please specify which country your post is relevant to.

• What are those white circles on the desktop in Gnome 3?

  I have Fedora 20 with GNOME 3.10.2. On the desktop background (i.e. where the wallpaper is), there are five small white circles centered at the very bottom of the screen. The first is filled, the others are not. I can click those circles, thereby changing which one is filled, like a radio button. I cannot for the life of me figure out what those circles are supposed to do, and it's starting to drive me crazy. Clicking and thus changing which circle is filled does nothing I can perceive, and there seems to be no configuration option anywhere that has anything to do with them. What are those things? Is there any way to get rid of them? Edit: I made a screenshot of my desktop with no programs running. You can see the dot/circle thingies at the bottom. • Serving Compressed Files Amazon vs Lightty

  We are currently using amazon CloudFront to serve css and according to Amazon itself, Amazon CloudFront can serve both compressed and uncompressed files from an origin server. But while i check compression it shows everything fine in origin server but it shows notcompressed checking in the link with cloudfront. e.g. http://www.port80software.com/tools/compresscheck.asp?url=http%3A%2F%2Fimgsrv.mydomain.com%2Fen-UK%2Fsomething.css it would result with Compression status: (gzip) while with cloudfront http://www.port80software.com/tools/compresscheck.asp?url=http%3A%2F%2hereisit.cloudfront.net%2F%2Fsomething.css Compression status: Uncompressed Origin server is running lighttpd with mod_deflate however, allowed config is: deflate.allowed_encodings = ("bzip2", "gzip", "deflate") [i would think, putting extra allowed encoding wont affect as such.] Here i am clueless, what is the real issue.

  I'm looking for a Kiosk-style / camera shop easy photo memory card to CD/DVD burning program? For non technie user. The kind of system you see in a camera shop / store, e.g. in the UK, Jessops and Boots stores. This is for my Dad who is adept at general PC usage as a notebook owner, but would prefer something fairly simple. The task of burning photos to CD/DVD, in their original photo file .jpg form, i.e. NOT as CD or DVD video or slideshow, is what I'm looking for. I'm guessing this might be possible in Picasa, but all the options available might be superfluous and confusing. He could probably learn to use that but thought I would try simpler options first. Looking for something that guides the user through the steps/stages of the process, 'Wizard' style. Any suggestions? Platform: HP Windows 7 Home notebook with CD/DVD burner and SD memory card slot.

• My server won't send emails

  I've been sent here by the people at stackoverflow OK so I know I'm using the right code becuase I have it working on another server but when I try to send an email from a webpage on this particular server using php I get a success message back but the email never gets through. In /var/log/maillog I see Sep 11 14:20:28 ela1 postfix/smtp[11496]: CEE83E151FD: to=[My email address here], relay=none, delay=40, delays=0.08/0.01/40/0, dsn=4.4.3, status=deferred (Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name=btopenworld.co.uk type=MX: Host not found, try again) Can anyone help?

• Is it possible to have non-English regional settings with English day/month names?

  I live in Estonia where most regional settings (number, currency and date formats) differ from those used in English-speaking countries. For instance, decimal symbol is comma, thousands separator is space, date format is day-month-year, etc. However, if I set my regional settings to Estonian, then day and month names are also shown in Estonian everywhere: This is slightly annoying since the language used for the rest of Windows is English and I'd like the day and month names to be consistent with it. Is this possible while still keeping the local regional settings? One workaround I've tried is to set regional settings to, say, English (UK) and then customise them to match Estonian settings, but that messes up alphabetic sorting - accented letters like "ö" and "ä" are no longer distinguished from their non-accented versions, and "z" is sorted as last rather than at its correct position in the Estonian alphabet (between "s" and "t"). OS is Windows 7 Professional, in case that matters. Edit: alternatively, if there's no built-in way to accomplish what I want, is it possible to create a custom set of regional settings (like one can create custom keyboard layouts)?

• Google Chrome is in Danish

  I'm not sure what i have done, but by default, Chrome comes up in Danish. I can ignore this most of the time but its v annoying and i cant seem to change it. For example google directions come up in Danish too and have to be translated back to English! I have tried the spanner icon, and i've confirmed the only two languages specified are En and US English. Does anyone have any ideas how i can default it back to English all the time. • Can't figure out how to make Slitaz USB persistent

  I installed Slitaz on my USB. However I can't figure out how to make it persistent automatically. There are different sources telling me different ways to make it persistent. One told me to add "slitaz home=usb" to the syslinux.cfg file like this: append initrd=/boot/rootfs.gz rw root=/dev/null vga=normal autologin slitaz home=usb but it didn't work for me. http://www.slitaz.org/en/doc/handbook/liveusb.html gave an example of how to do it manually but I didn't try it and I also want it to happen automatically. custompc.co.uk/features/602451/make-any-pc-your-own-with-linux-on-a-usb-key.html is an older article that also explains how to make the USB persistent but I don't want to try it cause it looks outdated (from 2008) does anyone know the best way to make the USB automatically persistent?
