  • How to create a custom ADO Multi Dimensional Catalog with no database

    Does anyone know of an example of how to dynamically define and build ADO MD (ActiveX Data Objects Multidimensional) catalogs and cube definitions with a set of data other than a database? Background: we have a huge amount of data in our application that we export to a database and then query using the usual SQL joins, groups, sums etc to produce reports. The data in the application is originally in objects and arrays. The problem is the amount of data is so large the export can take 2 hours. So I am trying to figure out a good way of querying the objects in memory, either by a custom OLAP algorithm or library, or ADO MD. But I haven't been able to find an example of using ADO MD without a database behind it. We are using Delphi 2010 so would use ADO ActiveX but I imagine the ADO.NET MD is similar. I realize that if the application data was already stored in a database the problem would solve itself. Also if Delphi had LINQ capability I could query the objects and arrays that way.

    I have tables like: 'profile_values' userID | fid | value -------+---------+------- 1 | 3 | [email protected] 1 | 45 | 203-234-2345 3 | 3 | [email protected] 1 | 45 | 123-456-7890 And: 'users' userID | name -------+------- 1 | joe 2 | jane 3 | jake I want to join them and have one row with two of the values like: 'profile_values' userID | name | email | phone -------+-------+----------------+-------------- 1 | joe | [email protected] | 203-234-2345 2 | jane | [email protected] | 123-456-7890 I have solved it but it feels clumsy and I want to know if there is a better way to do it. Meaning solutions that are either more readable or faster(optimized) or simply best-practice. Current solution: multiple tables selected, many conditional statements: SELECT u.userID AS memberid, u.name AS first_name, pv1.value AS fname, pv2.value as lname FROM users AS u, profile_values AS pv1, profile_values AS pv2, WHERE u.userID = pv1.userID AND pv1.fid = 3 AND u.userID = pv2.userID AND pv2.fid = 45; Thanks for the help!

I'll try to demonstrate you what I need to make. inputField1 inputField2 inputField3 BUTTON1 inputField4 inputField5 BUTTON2 inputField6 inputFiled7 inputField8 inputField9 BUTTON3 I hope you understand me what I want to make. So I when I click on some of the buttons I have to collect the data from the input fields and do something with the data. If I click BUTTON1 I collect data from inputField1 inputField2 inputField3 BUTTON2 inputField4 inputField5, etc. Probably I should create the input fields programmatically and group them in forms. Any idea how to do it? Any idea?

    Hi folks, I'm trying to figure out how to create a dynamic case statement in a bash script. For example, let's say I have the output of an awk statement with the following contents red green blue In this scenario, the output can change at any time. I'm trying to then execute different logic if a value is included in this awk output. So if the data above is in $list, then I'd conceptually like to do something like: case "${my_var}" in $list) ..... something_else) ..... esac I'm trying to use this to build a dynamic custom tab completion function (see http://www.debian-administration.org/article/An_introduction_to_bash_completion_part_2 for some background).     Hi guys, Know this might be rather basic, but I been trying to figure out how to one after create a dynamic array such as double* data = new double[size]; be used as a source of data to be kept in to a binary file such as ofstream fs("data.bin",ios:binary"); fs.write(reinterpret_cast<const char *> (data),size*sizeof(double)); When I finish writing, I attempt to read the file through double* data = new double[size]; ifstream fs("data.bin",ios:binary"); fs.read(reinterpret_cast<char*> (data),size*sizeof(double)); However I seem to encounter a run time error when reading the data. Do you guys have any advice how i should attempt to write a dynamic array using pointers passed from other methods to be stored in binary files?

    Hi all, to export some data i want to be able to generate an html output. I have some constant content to output, like html headers and footers. My question is how to deal with that ? Do I have to embed some template (in a ressource file) and parse it to make it dynamic ? Do I store my static content in some constant (is there a 255 char limit?) and append them while generating the dynamic content ? Do you have some hints, useful links, or best practices to share?     I'm convinced at this point that I should be creating subclasses of std::exception for all my exception throwing needs. Now I'm looking at how to override the what method. The situation that I'm facing, it would be really handy if the string what returns be dynamic. Some pieces of code parse an XML file for example, and adding a position or line number to the error message is useful to me. What I'd like to know: what returns a const char *, which implies any catcher is likely not going to free the string. So I need some other place to store the result, but where would that be? (I need thread-safety.) what also includes throw() in its signature. While I can prevent my what from throwing anything, it seems to me that this method really isn't intended for anything too dynamic. If what is not the right place, then where should I be doing this instead?

    I'm trying to describe endpoints in my App Engine app and am having difficulty for directory structures that mix static and dynamic content. But my yaml rules are conflicting with one another. Before I change my directory structure, does anyone have a recommendation? The goal is to create a directory that contains both documentation (static html files) and implementations. /api - /v1 - getitdone.py - doc.html - index.html What I think I should be doing with my application yaml... - url: /api/v1/getitdone script: api/v1/getitdone.py - url: /api/ static_files: api/index.html upload: api/index.html - url: /api static_dir: api But this causes the dynamic endpoints to fail. I'm assuming the static_dir reference is breaking it. How can I do this without describing every script and static file reference (I have many more than are listed here)?

I could do sub-selects for each of the required address fields, but seems a bit messy. I've already got a table-valued-function that accepts an address ID, and returns all fields for that ID, but not sure how to integrate it into my required result. Off hand, it looks like 3 selects to create this table - 1: Location, 2: Mailing address, 3: Billing address. What I'd like to do is just create a view and use that. Any assistance would be helpful. I want to select all computers from a table, but when I pass a computer id to the sp, I want to get only this computer. Actually I try this on DECLARE @ComputerFilter AS INT DECLARE @ComputerID AS INT SELECT Computername FROM Computer WHERE (ComputerID = @ComputerID) OR (@ComputerFilter IS NULL)) But this is 100 times slow then this statment and tooks as long as SELECT * FROM Computer SELECT Computername FROM Computer WHERE ComputerID = @ComputerID Is there a way to speed this statment up or is there any other way to solve this problem with one select und without dynamic sql?

    First, I am aware that dynamic languages is a term used mainly by a vendor; I am using it just to have a container word to include languages like Perl (a favorite of mine), Python, Tcl, Ruby, PHP and so on. They are interpreted but I am interested here to refer to languages featuring strong capability to support the programmer efficiency and the support for typical constructs of modern interpreted languages My question is: there are dynamic languages can be compiled efficiently in native executable code - typically for Windows platforms? Which ones? Maybe using some third part ad-hoc tools? I am not talking about huge executables carrying with them a full interpreter or some similar tricks nor some smart module able to include its own dependances or some required modules, but a honest, straight, standard, solid executable code. If not, there is some technical reason inhibiting the availability of such a best-of-both-world feature? Thanks! Daniel

I tried using 'join' but since I need to use multiple where clauses I can't figure out how to get this to work ..

    Hi I have my movie in the main timeline and then have a smaller clip in which there is a dynamic text box. In that smaller movie I have some actionscript myVars = new LoadVars(); myVars.load("http://preview.domain.co.uk/inc/loadVars.php"); myVars.percentage myVars.onLoad = function() { text_box.text = this.percentage; }; but when I play the movie it doesn't work. However if I move the dynamic textbox onto the main timeline it works. Please can someone help.

However the need is that the keys are dynamic in the key/value pairs. So in the example JSON provided, person1 and person2 could be anything, I need to read them dynamically. What's the best possible structure for Persons class to account for that dynamic nature.
