• Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020009 (DISP_E_EXCEPTION)) in SharePoint

  Hi all: After googling for many hours for a solution for the above Sharepoint exception, I have come to SO for help on this one... I believe the cause of me getting the above exception is because of the following code: try { using (SPSite site = new SPSite(siteId, spUserToken)) { using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb(webId)) { createNewSite(web); } } } createNewSite(web) changes the name and URL of "web" using AllowUnsafeUpdates, so when it comes out of the method it has been changed. My few months worth of Sharepoint developing experience suggest that that is the cause of the exception. "web" is no longer used anymore so I can comfortably null it myself. The problem here is... it didnt work: try { using (SPSite site = new SPSite(siteId, spUserToken)) { SPWeb web = null; using (web = site.OpenWeb(webId)) { createNewSite(web); if (web != null) { web = null; } } } } I believe that the original developer used the using declaration to avoid SPWeb objects from leaking. Asides that I think it is okay for me to break this pattern solely for the purpose of getting rid of that dreaded exception. So the question: what can I do to the above code to potentially fix this exception? Thanks.

  for some reason, my visual studio 2010 is not loading debug symbols on my own code. i am using a default WPF application solution. with a sample WPF app i am working on, and running in Debug mode. when i go into debug, i can step through my code. BUT when exception happens in my code (i.e. throw new Exception("test")), visual studio gives me the blue blank screen with "No Source Available. No symbols are loaded blah blah.." AND i can actually "view" exception details, where it will tell me the line of code my exception occured on. so it does know what happened.. it seems. it seems to think that PDB files are not loaded. my setup: options Deubg "Enable just my code (managed only)" is checked. application properties : 1 project running in Debug x86

  In my Google Appengine application I have defined a custom exception InvalidUrlException(Exception) in the module 'gvu'. Somewhere in my code I do: try: results = gvu.article_parser.parse(source_url) except gvu.InvalidUrlException as e: self.redirect('/home?message='+str(e)) ... which works fine in the local GAE development server, but raises <type 'exceptions.SyntaxError'>: invalid syntax (translator.py, line 18) when I upload it. (line 18 is the line starting with 'except') The problem seems to come from the 'as e' part: if I remove it I don't get this exception anymore. However I would like to be able to access the raised exception. Have you ever encountered this issue? Is there an alternative syntax?

Anyone knows why this could be happening?

Oftentimes, it even places empty rows in to the MySQL table. The file-based logs in /var/log/squid3/access.log are correct but many of the rows in the access logs are missing from the MySQL logs. I can't help but think it's down to the order I'm putting lines in because I want to log everything to MySQL, unauthenticated requests, blocked requests, which category blocked a specific request. The reason I want this in MySQL is because I'm trying to have everything managed via a custom web-based frontend and want to avoid using any shell commands and access to system log files if I can help it. The end result is to make it as easy as possible to maintain without keeping staff waiting on the phone whilst I add a new rule and reload the server! Hopefully someone can help me out here because this is very much a learning experience for me and I'm pretty stumped. Many thanks in advance for any help!

  I am trying to implement Paul Calhoun's Apache FOP solution for creating PDF's from Xpages (from Notes In 9 #102). I am getting the following java exception when trying to run the xAgent that does the processing -- Can't get a Writer while an OutputStream is already in use The only changes that I have done from Paul's code was to change the package name. I have isolated when the exception happens to the SSJS line: var jce: DominoXMLFO2PDF = new DominoXMLFO2PDF(); All that line does is instantiate the class, there is no custom constructor. I don't believe it is the code itself, but some configuration issue. The SSJS code is in the beforeRenderResponse event where it should be, I haven't changed anything on the xAgent. I have copied the jar files from Paul's sample database to mine, I have verified that the build paths are the same between the two databases. Everything compiles fine (after I did all this.) This exception appears to be an xpages only exception.

• How to prepopulate an Outlook MailItem and avoiding a com Exception from the object model guard

  Hi, I work for a company that develops a CRM tool and offers integration with MS Office(2003 & 2007) from windows XP to 7. (I'm working using Win7) My task is to call an Outlook instance (using C#) from this CRM tool when the user wants to send an email and prepopulate with data of the CRM tool (email, recipient, etc..) All of this already works just fine. The problem I'm having is that Outlook's "object model guard" is throwing com Exception (Operation aborted (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004004 (E_ABORT))) the moment I try to read a protected value from the mailItem (such as mail.bodyHTML). Example Snippet: using MSOutlook = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook; //untrusted Instance _outlook = new MSOutlook.Application(); MSOutlook.MailItem mail = (MSOutlook.MailItem)_outlook.CreateItem(MSOutlook.OlItemType.olMailItem); //this where the Exception occurs string outlookStdHTMLBody = mail.HTMLBody; I've done quite a bit of reading and know that my Outlook Instance (derived by using new Application) is considered untrusted and therefore the "omg" kicks in. I do have a workaround for development: I'm running VS2010 as Administrator and if I run Outlook as Administrator as well - all is good. I suppose this is due to them having the same integrity levels(high) and the UAC(?) is not complaining. But that just ain't the way to go for deployment. Now the question is: Is there a way to obtain a trusted instance of Outlook so that I can avoid this exception? I've already read that when developing an Office Add-In using VSTO one can obtain a trusted Instance from the OnComplete event and/or using "ThisAddin" But I "merely" want to start an outlook instance and preopulate it, and do not want to develop an Add-In since this is not the requirement. And to make it clear - I have no problem with pop ups informing the user that outlook is being accessed - I just want to get rid of the exception! So how can I get around this problem using code? • Clickonce installation fails after addition of WCF service project

  So I have a winform solution, deployed via clickonce. Eveything worked fine until i added a WCF project. (see error in parsing the manifest file at end of post) Now I notice that MSBuild compiles the service into a _PublishedWebsites dir. I don't know what the need for this is, but I am suspecting this is the cause of the problem. This wcf project references some other projects within the solution. I am actually hosting the wcf service within the application so I don't really need MSBuild to do all this for me. • Perl equivalent to Java's "throws" clause

  Is there a way in Perl to declare that a method can throw an error (or die)? EDIT: What interests me the most is a way to get the compiler or IDE to tell me I have an unchecked exception somewhere in my code. I always loved how in Java, a method could handle an Exception and/or throw it. The method signature allows to put "throws MyException", so a good IDE/compiler would know that if you use said method somewhere in your code, you'd have to check for the Exception or declare your function to "throws" the Exception further. I'm unable to find something alike in Perl. A collegue of mine wrote a method which "dies" on incorrect input, but I forget to eval-if($@) it... offcourse the error was only discovered while a user was running the application.   Hi, I'm writing an app that connect to a website and read one line from it. I do it like this: try{ URLConnection connection = new URL("www.example.com").openConnection(); BufferedReader rd = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(connection.getInputStream())); String response = rd.readLine(); rd.close(); }catch (Exception e) { //exception handling } Is it good? I mean, I close the BufferedReader in the last line, but I do not close the InputStreamReader. Should I create a standalone InputStreamReader from the connection.getInputStream, and a BufferedReader from the standalone InputStreamReader, than close all the two readers? I think it will be better to place the closing methods in the finally block like this: InputStreamReader isr = null; BufferedReader br = null; try{ URLConnection connection = new URL("www.example.com").openConnection(); isr = new InputStreamReader(connection.getInputStream()); br = new BufferedReader(isr); String response = br.readLine(); }catch (Exception e) { //exception handling }finally{ br.close(); isr.close(); } But it is ugly, because the closing methods can throw exception, so I have to handle or throw it. • .NET: Avoidance of custom exceptions by utilising existing types, but which?

  Consider the following code (ASP.NET/C#): private void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!SetupHelper.SetUp()) { throw new ShitHitFanException(); } } I've never been too hesitant to simply roll my own exception type, basically because I have found (bad practice, or not) that mostly a reasonable descriptive type name gives us enough as developers to go by in order to know what happened and why something might have happened. Sometimes the existing .NET exception types even accommodate these needs - regardless of the message. In this particular scenario, for demonstration purposes only, the application should die a horrible, disgraceful death should SetUp not complete properly (as dictated by its return value), but I can't find an already existing exception type in .NET which would seem to suffice; though, I'm sure one will be there and I simply don't know about it. Brad Abrams posted this article that lists some of the available exception types. I say some because the article is from 2005, and, although I try to keep up to date, it's a more than plausible assumption that more have been added to future framework versions that I am still unaware of. Of course, Visual Studio gives you a nicely formatted, scrollable list of exceptions via Intellisense - but even on analysing those, I find none which would seem to suffice for this situation... ApplicationException: ...when a non-fatal application error occurs The name seems reasonable, but the error is very definitely fatal - the app is dead. ExecutionEngineException: ...when there is an internal error in the execution engine of the CLR Again, sounds reasonable, superficially; but this has a very definite purpose and to help me out here certainly isn't it. HttpApplicationException: ...when there is an error processing an HTTP request Well, we're running an ASP.NET application! But we're also just pulling at straws here. InvalidOperationException: ...when a call is invalid for the current state of an instance This isn't right but I'm adding it to the list of 'possible should you put a gun to my head, yes'. OperationCanceledException: ...upon cancellation of an operation the thread was executing Maybe I wouldn't feel so bad using this one, but I'd still be hijacking the damn thing with little right. You might even ask why on earth I would want to raise an exception here but the idea is to find out that if I were to do so then do you know of an appropriate exception for such a scenario? And basically, to what extent can we piggy-back on .NET while keeping in line with rationality?
