• Why is firefox 4 not HW accelerated?

  At first i thought it was my computer but then i tried chrome. Why isnt firefox not hardware accelerated? The first screenshot shows chrome at 23% usage. The 2nd shows 59%. I have 2 cpus which is why it isnt 100% usage. • I love google Chrome, but some non-static pages like Piwik render it unresponsive

  The web-stat software Piwik stops reacting on mouse clicks after 1-2 seconds. The same is true for Google Maps and Producteev (but GMail and most other pages work like a charm). These rely heavily on JS, and work without Flash. I can click for a very short time period and then the mouse cursor doesn't feel the UI anymore (it doesn't turn into a I over input fields, though it moves; if the freeze occured while the pointer was over an input field, the cursor keeps being a I) and all clicks on the DOM are being ignored by Chrome. No message appears, neither obvious nor in the Console (F12). There is no obstructing div or the like in the DOM (F12). Since I couldn't find any hints on the source of my problems, I suspected my plugins and extensions. Unfortunately, neither deactivating all plugins nor all extensions solved the problem. for the problematic pages, it always happens no Dropbox running several GB of free RAM the taskmanager doesn't show any high CPU or memory utilization (the offending tab uses 30 MB and uses 0-1 % CPU) all problematic pages work in other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE) the rest of the computer is very responsive the computers use different security suites (Kaspersky and Avira) The effect exists between several (synchronized) Chrome instances on different machines, all running Windows 7. Both the OS and Chrome are updated automatically. Other tabs and the Chrome chrome (tabs, menus, toolbar buttons of the browser itself) still work. I really don't like switching between browsers. Any ideas?

Download and unpack the extension (from PECL, for instance). 2. If the extension is already compiled (most binary PHP loaders will be, for instance), skip to step 6. 3. /usr/local/php53/bin/phpize 4. ./configure --with-php-config=/usr/local/php53/bin/php-config 5. make 6. Copy the module to your .php/5.3/ directory. 7.   I starting doing some experimentation toward making a browser userscript for Google searches and when opening the JavaScript console noticed something that strikes me as very fishy: The page at https://www.google.com.au/search?oq=XYZ&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=XYZ displayed insecure content from http://50.116.62.47/js/chromeServerV45.js. The page at about:blank displayed insecure content from http://96.126.107.154/amz/google.php?callback=a&q=XYZ&country=US. (XYZ is a placeholder for whatever the search terms really was.) Is it likely that I've picked something like a drive-by browser infection? I've tried all kinds of searches for these URLs and other keywords but I've had no luck finding anything conclusive about whether they're malicious or what they are: 50.116.62.47 chromeServerV45.js 96.126.107.154 amz/google.php The only extensions I have installed are either widely used or written by myself. But something else is strange and I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence. I updated my Windows Chrome browser today to version 23.0.1271.64 m and now my Extensions tab as well as my settings tab are blank, so I can't try disabling my extesions. • Copying large files from USB devices to the internal hard drive fails on Mac OS

  I have a second-generation 13" MacBook Air running Mac OS X 10.6.6 with a 2.13 GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD hard disk. I often get failures when I attempt to copy a large file or large collection of files from an external USB drive (typically a "Firewire" generation Drobo) to the internal drive. The failure behaves almost exactly as if I had pulled the USB cable from the computer in mid-transfer. I get a warning that I have removed the hard disk improperly. After this event, the drive no longer appears mounted in the finder, and I have to unplug and reinsert the USB cable to mount the drive again. I have also seen a similar problem when using Aperture 3 to import a large number of photos and videos from a USB Compact Flash card reader. The import will fail and I will have to unplug the Card Reader and import the missing items. Oddly, reversing the direction of the copy seems pretty reliable. I've never had a problem copying a large file to a USB device, meaning that I have quite a few large files which are stranded on my Drobo.   We have 2 servers, 1 already configured with .net which works fine and a new one which appears to be configured the same but when I open an xml page in Internet Explorer it complains about the <% tag. We have IIS on win srvr 2003 SP2. The website is configured with .NET 1.1.4322. • Unable to use OpenGL or install nVidia driver on openSUSE 12.2

  I have an ASUS N76VZ laptop with 12.2 openSUSE and GeForce GT650M card. I found that KDE doesn't allow me to use OpenGL rendering. I tried to install nVidia's driver from script but once it writes the xorg.conf file I'm unable to boot desktop. • How do I keep the keyword.url setting in firefox to default when you restart the browser without del

  I am on the latest version of Firefox (not beta or anything like that) and currently my keyword.url is stuck on search.google.com (which I don't remember setting even though the about:config says it's a user setting. Can someone tell me how to set it back to default and keep it at default when I reset my browser? I do not want to delete prefs.js as I do not want to go thru setting up all the extension settings I have just to have my location bar search google (if this is the only way then I'll stick with searching from the search bar instead). I've checked all my extensions that may effect the location bar but could not find anything that says it would change the default search engine for this. I've also tried to open the prefs.js in wordpad or notepad but it just ends up freezing when trying to edit it at all (yes the browser is closed at the time). I also deleted the prefs-1.js (along with 2 others) that were older (after trying to rename those to prefs.js and see if this corrects it. It might have but had such old extension settings I went back to my latest prefs.js with this one issue instead of the issue of setting back up a ton of extensions. I can give any other info if needed, someone please help me fix this issue if possible.

• How to make Firefox file associations consistent with Ubuntu file associations?

The gist of what I want to accomplish is to have Firefox understand the file associations I download without me having to manually map all of them myself. Gnome knows the file extensions, so I would have expected that Firefox could just use the already-known file mappings there to open the right stuff (as I presume Chrome does). But it doesn't. At least not for me, using Firefox 4, and not by default. When I click on a downloaded file right now, Firefox always has to ask me what application should be used to open the file. A handful of Google results tell me that I can reassociate my file extensions by deleting ~/.mozilla/firefox/[profile name]/mimeTypes.rdf, but while deleting that file does in fact result in a new mimeTypes file being generated, the new mimeTypes is just as barren as the old one had been. Based on the amount of unanswered Qs on the Googlesphere, I know this is a very common problem for Ubuntu users, but it seems to be one for which nobody has chimed in with a good solution. Maybe Superuser can finally be the panacea for us all?

• Working with different PHP version at the same time, php_value extension_dir not working?

  I need both PHP 5.4.7 and 5.3.17 running on Windows 7 x64 with Apache 2.2.23. This is my virtual host configuration: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "C:/WAMP/Apache/htdocs/php54" ServerName php54.local PHPIniDir "C:/WAMP/PHP54" LoadModule php5_module "C:/WAMP/PHP54/php5apache2_2.dll" php_value extension_dir "C:/WAMP/PHP54/ext" <Directory "C:/WAMP/Apache/htdocs/php54"> Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> The PHPIniDir and LoadModule directives work fine and using phpinfo() inside my script prints the right PHP version. But I need to load extensions, and this is where it fails. php_value extension_dir should be C:/WAMP/PHP54/ext but it's (default one) C:/php. What I'm missing here? • Why won't Google Chrome open Google Docs, and why is it slow with GMail?

  OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard: Google Chrome works like a charm most of the time. I have many extensions installed, and I've tried disabling/re-enabling them one by one to find a culprit, with no luck. Here are the problems: (1) Chrome is slow to load GMail. I am fairly sure that clearing the cache alleviates this problem. But I can open Safari, type in the URL, and login to GMail in the time it sometimes takes Chrome to open the page. Shouldn't caching help the page load?!? And sometimes even after recent cache clears it still is slow to load..... Thoughts? (2) Chrome won't open Google Docs at all. Safari does. Again, I tried disabling extensions one-by-one, and I allow cookies and even third-party cookies. But I still am told it has a redirect loop. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  Hi, I have a strange problem when adding a sub-domain to our virtual server. I have done similar sub-domains before and they have worked fine. When I try to access the sub-domain I get an 403 Forbidden error. I checked the error logs and have the following error: pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable I've searched Google and could only find solutions regarding file and folder permissions, that I have checked and the solution isn't solved. • HTTP Headers - need to check OPTIONS

  I've received the results of a pen test and there is some unwanted exposure in the HTTP OPTIONS where the fact that Frontpage Server Extensions was available (now removed) was reported. I need to run a check on the OPTIONS to see whether it has been removed. The test output from the report is below, I need to recreate it to establish that it has gone but don't know how to check the OPTIONS, I can only find tools that seem to check the "HEAD / HTTP/1.1". Does anyone know how to test this - I'm running a Windows environment? • Dreamweaver Files uploaded to Win 2008 server cause login prompt

  I have a customer who uses a 4 year old version of Dreamweaver to edit her webpages. My hosting reseller account is with a company that uses Windows Server 2008. Every time my customer edits a page and uploads it, I have to set the permissions for that file to be readable, manually from the site's control panel. The customer is furious with me because her files cause the login prompt. I am able to upload files myself that remain readable to the site with both Filezilla and with Frontpage. I am assuming that her Dreamweaver settings are the cause of the problem but I don't have that program myself and don't know what to advise her. Any suggestions?

• Can't connect to YouTube from specific network

  Using my current network, I am unable to connect to http://www.youtube.com/. It doesn't matter what browser I use or if I use a cli-command (wget, curl). Error in Google Chrome: Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to www.youtube.com Error using curl: curl: (7) couldn't connect to host If I use nslookup to get the IP-address of YouTube, I get 173.194.32.32. If I go to http://173.194.32.32/ in my browser it can connect, but as Google is probably checking the Host HTTP-header, it shows Google's frontpage instead. There is no blocked websites on the router and other devices on the network seems to work. My computer only has this problem on this specific network. I am using Mac OS X 10.8.2 on a MacBook (mid 2009).

• How to get uncaught PHP errors from fcgi server

  My web hosting company recently replaced suPHP with fcgi on my dedicated server because I needed opcode functionality. Since then I see loads of 500 errors in apache error and php error log is empty. I have no way to figure out whats the root cause. One reason I found out was time out so my hosting company changed FcgidConnectTimeout and FcgidIOTimeout to a value of 200. I believe there are no more timeout errors in my php script. My question is how do I capture PHP error before 500 internal server error page display to user? I am using Centos 5.8 server, WHM 11.34.0 (build 9), PHP 5.3.18 and Apache/2.2.23 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.23 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 mod_fcgid/2.3.6

  I often use facebook for communication while working. When I do, I'd rather not see the facebook newsfeed. Unfortunately it's hard to remember to not go to the frontpage and use facebook.com/messages or facebook.com/events. Is there any way to always redirect from the url https://www.facebook.com/ to https://www.facebook.com/events/list? I use firefox on osx. I have tried the redirector addon and I'm not able to make it work, not sure if I'm missing something obvious or if it's outdated/buggy.

• PhpMyAdmin Hangs On MySQL Error

  I'm currently running PhpMyAdmin 4.0.10 (the latest version supporting PHP 4.2.X) on my Amazon EC2 connecting to a MySQL database on RDS. Everything works perfectly fine except actions that return a mysql error message. Whether I perform "any" kind of action that will return a mysql error, Phpmyadmin will hang with the yellow "Loading" box forever without displaying anything. For example, if I perform the following command in MySQL CLI : select * from 123; It instantly returns the following error : ERROR 1064 (42000): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '123' at line 1 which is completely normal because table 123 doesn't exist. However, if I execute the exact same command in the "SQL" box in Phpmyadmin, after I click "Go" it'll display "Loading" and stops there forever. Has anyone ever encountered this kind of issue with Phpmyadmin? Is this a bug or I have something wrong with my config.inc.php? Any help would be much appreciated.
