  • Is there a website to lookup barcodes?

    - by strange
Hi I know there's a http://www.upcdatabase.com/ website that allows you to lookup barcodes. This website however does not return anything for thousands of normal household items. I have seen free apps on mobile phones that can do this and list the exact product name along with price comparison. Does anyone know of good websites (even commercial ones) that have a good/reliable database that one could use for lookups?

  • Is MVC a Design Pattern or Architectural pattern

    - by JCasso
According to Sun and Msdn it is a design pattern. According to Wikipedia it is an architectural pattern In comparison to design patterns, architectural patterns are larger in scale. (Wikipedia - Architectural pattern) Or it is an architectural pattern that also has a design pattern ? Which one is true ?

  • Fact or fiction: Webkit’s rendering performance is much lower when used in Qt

    - by Jen
Using Qt’s Webkit implementation renders much slower than directly implementing the Webkit engine -- is this true or just a myth? From my own experience, I found the load time of a complex page about twice as long in Qt’s “Fancy Browser” example as it does in Google Chrome (which also incorporates a port of Webkit), but I hardly think that is a fair comparison. Any insights on this?

  • Expression Tree Binary Expression for an 'In' operation

    - by Adam Driscoll
I'm trying to build an expression tree (still) but getting further! I need to create a BinaryExpression to perform an 'In' comparison between a Member and a collection of items. Hence, the expression should return true if the member is contained within the items. This obviously does not exist: Expression.MakeBinary(ExpressionType.In, memberExpression, constantExpression); constantExpression is a ConstantExpression of type IEnumerable while memberExpression is a MemberExpression of type T. How would I create such an expression?

  • Pentaho vs SAP Business Objects

    - by arturito
Is there anyone out there that used these two technologies and could give me some comparison in the form of advantages and disadvantages of both? I'm currently working with BO and I have heard that open source Pentaho does pretty good job as well. Thanks in advance!

  • What text editors support vertical rulers?

    - by leeand00
I'm looking for a feature somewhat like the vertical red 80 columns marker in NetBeans but one that's easier to use. I'd like it to function more like the tabs in MS Word except that the horizontal line is displayed on the entire file. I looked on the Comparison of Text Editors over at Wikipedia and I didn't find that "vertical ruler" was one of their features. It would be used to line up html tags in a massive file that I did not create, but have to maintain.

  • Eclipse vs. Visual Studio: What are the features in Eclipse that are not present in Visual Studio an

    - by CodeToGlory
I keep hearing Eclipse is better than or way ahead than Visual studio but when I installed eclipse I felt it is very clunky and hard to use interface. So I want to know what is so great about Eclipse and if there are others who agree with me. I also could not find a similar question that talks about the specific features about Eclipse and their comparison to Visual studio.

  • Watir vs Selenium vs Sahi

    - by Dennis
Out of these 3, which have you or has your company chosen to work with? Pros & Cons please. I'll be comparing them myself as well, but I'd like to hear what others have to say. Also, please state which you have all tried (so that I know you have a good comparison of the 3).

  • Cassandra: Using LongType

    - by TheDeveloper
I'm trying to insert data into a ColumnFamily with "CompareWith" attribute "LongType". However, when trying to insert data under numerical keys, I get a thrift error. When attempting the same operation with the cassandra-cli program, I get the error "A long is exactly 8 bytes". How can I resolve this? Should I use a different comparison type? Thanks

  • Convincing Management to use WCF

    - by Kyle Rozendo
Hi All, I asked another question, stating that the I am unable to use WCF in a new Web Service project and have come to see that it seems to be the technology to use in regards to extensibility and security. My question is a simple one: How can I persuade management (and developers for that matter) to move over to using WCF as opposed to other web service technologies (ASMX/CFC)? They won't be concerned with a comparison between the types (especially with regard to ASMX), simply what there is to gain. Thanks for your time, Kyle

  • Test existence of xml attribute in as3

    - by matb
Hi, What is the best method to test the existence of an attribute on an XML object in ActionScript 3 ? http://martijnvanbeek.net/weblog/40/testing_the_existance_of_an_attribute_in_xml_with_as3.html is suggesting to test using if ( node.@test != node.@nonexistingattribute ) and I saw comments suggesting to use: if ( node.hasOwnProperty('@test')) { // attribute qtest exists } But in both case, tests are case sensitive. From the XML Specs : "XML processors should match character encoding names in a case-insensitive way" so I presume attribute name should also be match using a case-insensitive comparison. Thank you

  • is (StringComparison.)Ordinal the same as InvariantCulture for testing equality?

    - by Tim Lovell-Smith
From what I read so far, it sounds like these StringComparison types are meant to differ in how they do sorting of strings, if so, does that mean that it does'nt matter which StringComparison you use when doing an equality comparison? string.Equals(a, b, StringComparison....) Extra credit: does it make a difference to the answer if we compare OrdinalIgnoreCase and InvariantCultureIgnoreCase? What is the answer then? Please provide supporting argument and/or references.

  • Is there such a tool for testing

    - by kjack
Say one has a structural codebase where lots of the code is in GUI control events and has no tests. So such code, to my knowledge is not suitable for unit testing Is there a tool that can test each routine automatically replacing references to code elements external to the routine (be they functions, variables or GUI controls) with appropriate mocks(?) and record the results in a database for later comparison after code changes? So the testing program would have the duty of writing, running and reporting tests with minimal intervention?

I was wondering if there are any python AI libraries similar to aima-python but for a more recent version of python... and how they are in comparison to aima-python. I was particularly interested in search algorithms such as hill-climbing, simulated annealing, tabu search and genetic algorithms. edit: made the question more clear.

  • Windows RPC vs XML-RPC

    - by Y.Z
Is there any benchmark about encoding/decoding certain common typed data in Microsoft RPC NDR engine (DCE 1.1) in comparison with that in XML-RPC-C/C++ in the de-facto C/C++ implementation in XML-RPC? Actually I have to choose between Windows RPC and XML-RPC-C/C++ to implement my own common object infrastructure for High Performance Computing on Windows. Any recommandation about which with regard to their performance? Thank you. Best Regards, Yang
