• Problem using SQLDataReader with Sybase ASE

  We're developing a reporting application that uses asp.net-mvc (.net 4). We connect through DDTEK.Sybase middleware to a Sybase ASE 12.5 database. We're having a problem pulling data into a datareader (from a stored procedure). The stored procedure computes values (approximately 50 columns) by doing sums, counts, and calling other stored procedures. The problem we're experiencing is... certain (maybe 5% of the columns) come back with NULL or 0. • How can I bind Wpf DataGridColumn to an object?

  I want to bind the columns of my WPF DataGrid to some objects in a Dictionary like this: Binding Path=Objects[i] where Objects is my Dictionary of objects, so that each cell will represent an Object element. How can I do that? I suppose that I need to create a template for my cell, which I did, but how to get the result of column binding in my template? I know that by default the content of a DataGridCell is a TextBlock and it's Text property is set through column binding result, but if that result is an object I guess that I have to create a ContentTemplate. How do I do that, as the stuff I tried is not displaying anything.   Hello, I am using a MySQL table called "login" with the following structure: loginid, username, password, email, actcode, disabled, activated, created, points I am using another MySQL table called "comment" with the following structure: commentid, loginid, submissionid, comment, datecommented For a given "submisssionid", I would like to print out the following information from the table "comment": -The fields "comment" and "datecommented". At the same time, I would like to print out the following from the table "login": -The "username" that corresponds to the "loginid" for each row being row being selected from the table "comment". How can I do this? I tried the code below but it did not work. • Using a join with three tables when a field might be null

  Hello, The code below works great. It combines data from two MySQL tables. I would like to modify it by pulling in some data from a third MySQL table called "comment." In the HTML table below, "title" is a field in the MySQL table "submission." Every "title" has a corresponding "submissionid" field. The field "submissionid" is also found in the "comment" MySQL table. In the HTML table below, I would like "countComments" to equal the number of times a field called "commentid" appears in the MySQL table "comment" for any given "submissionid," where the "submissionid" is the same in both the "submission" and "comment" tables, and where the "submissionid" corresponds to the "title" being used. Here's the catch: if there is no row in the MySQL table "comment" that corresponds with the "submissionid" being used for "table", I would like "countComments" to equal to zero. How can I do this? • Appending Comment Number Anchors to Comments

  Hello, I am using a PHP file called comments.php that has a query that enters values into a mySQL table called "comment." As the query does this, it auto-generates a field called "commentid", which is set to auto_increment in MySQL. The file also contains a loop what echoes out all comments for a given submission. It all works fine and dandy, but I want to simultaneously pull this "commentid" and turn it into a hashtag / anchor that when appended to the end of the URL makes that comment at the top of the user's browser. Someone said on another question that in order to do this one thing I should do is create an anchor on the row where the comment is being printed out. How can I do this? • Best practices for (over)using Azure queues

  Hi, I'm in the early phases of designing an Azure-based application. One of the things that attracts me to Azure is the scalability, given the variability of the demand I'm likely to expect. As such I'm trying to keep things loosely coupled so I can add instances when I need to. The recommendations I've seen for architecting an application for Azure include keeping web role logic to a minimum, and having processing done in worker roles, using queues to communicate and some sort of back-end store like SQL Azure or Azure Tables. This seems like a good idea to me as I can scale up either or both parts of the application without any issue. However I'm curious if there are any best practices (or if anyone has any experiences) for when it's best to just have the web role talk directly to the data store vs. sending data by the queue? I'm thinking of the case where I have a simple insert to do from the web role - while I could set this up as a message, send it on the queue, and have a worker role pick it up and do the insert, it seems like a lot of double-handling. However I also appreciate that it may be the case that this is better in the long run, in case the web role gets overwhelmed or more complex logic ends up being required for the insert. I realise this might be a case where the answer is "it depends entirely on the situation, check your perf metrics" - but if anyone has any thoughts I'd be very appreciative! Thanks John

• In Silverlight 3 how can I get the call to HtmlPage.Plugin.SetStyleAttribute() call to call other co

  I'm trying to take a snapshot of my Silverlight control using WriteableBitmap and it works fine, however, it only takes a snapshot of what is showing. I'm trying to resize the Silverlight control so it will show everything and then take a screenshot, however, the code doesn't resize the control until after the code after the call all runs which is the snapshot code... I can get this work using a timer to fire the snapshot after the other code has caused the resize but I'm wondering if there is a better way. The HtmlPage.Plugin.SetStyleAttribute call has to be called from the UI thread so I'm assuming that's where the problem is. The fact that it is being dispatched onto the UI thread while the rest of the code is not and so the other code is being run first. Is there anyway to create a new event or attach to the call to determine when it has been run to then fire off my snapshot code? • In Ruby or Python can the very idea of Class be rewritten?

  Howdy All... first time at stack overflow. I'm looking into using some of the metaprogramming features provided by Ruby or Python, but first I need to know the extent to which they will allow me to extend the language. The main thing I need to be able to do is to rewrite the concept of Class. This doesn't mean that I want to rewrite a specific class during run time, but rather I want to make my own conceptualization of what a Class is. To be a smidge more specific here, I want to make something that is like what people normally call a Class, but I want to follow an "open world" assumption. In the "closed world" of normal Classes, if I declare Poodle to be a subclass of Dog to be a subclass of Animal, then I know that Poodle is not going to also be a type of FurCoat. However, in an open world Class, then the Poodle object I've defined may or may not be and object of type FurCoat and we won't know for sure until I explain that I can wear the poodle. (Poor poodle.) This all has to do with a study I'm doing concerning OWL ontologies. Just so you know, I've tried to find information online, but due to the overloading of terms here I haven't found anything helpful. Super thanks, John

• Insert names into table if not already existing

  I am trying to build an application that allows users to submit names to be added to a db table (runningList). Before the name is added tho, I would like to check firstname and lastname against another table (controlList). It must exist in (controlList) or reply name not valid. If the name is valid I would like to then check firstname and lastname against (runningList) it make sure it isnt already there. If it isnt there, then insert firstname & lastname. If it is there, reply name already used.   i'm trying to send the iOS device name along with the deviceToken to my server in didRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithDeviceToken.. my device has an apostrophe in it and the request string shows as ....&name=John+Doe’s+iPhone ... I've tried replacing "'" with "" and "’" with "" .. but neither fix it.. i assume i need to convert the encoding? • How to check misspelled email during user registration

  I use an email registration and confirmation in my project (yes, I know about OpenID. In my counry, a main email service lack it). Sometimes users misspell their email addresses. I know about this due to "message could not be delivered" letters in a mailbox. A misspelled address is absolutely correct, because I check it with a regular expression - say, [email protected] intstead of john[email protected]. And I do not want to duplicate a email field in a registration form (who likes it?). Request processing routine cannot wait for email delivery - it could take an unpredictable time. So, my script will return to user a confirmation message "An email was sent". And the user will wait for it forever (of cause, not - he/she will turn to an alternative project with a more perfect registration system). Does someone knows how it can be improved (in any programming language)?

  Hi All, I'm having a bit of trouble with regex's (C#, ASP.NET), and I'm pretty sure I'm doing something fundamentally wrong. My task is to bind a dynamically created gridview to a datasource, and then iterate through a column in the grid, looking for the string "A&I". An example of what the data in the cell (in template column) looks like is: Name: John Doe Phone: 555-123-1234 Email: john[email protected] Dept: DHS-A&I-MRB Here's the code I'm using to find the string value: foreach(GridViewRow gvrow in gv.Rows) { Match m = Regex.Match(gvrow.Cells[6].Text,"A&I"); if(m.Success) { gvrow.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Red; } } I'm not having any luck with any of these variations: "A&I" "[A][&][I]" But when I strictly user "&", the row does turn red.   I have an XML document that has a collection of objects. Each object has a key/value pair of label and value. I am trying to convert this into a DataSet, but when I do ds.ReadXml(xmlFile), then it creates two columns: label and value. • PHP encoding with DOMDocument

  <tag> ????? ? </tag> When I try to get the content of the following code using DOMDocument functions, it returns something like: ÐÐ»ÐµÐºÑ Ðœ I've tried setting DOMDocument encoding to different values (UTF-8, ISO-8859-1), using mb_convert_encoding, iconv and utf8_encode but without success. How can I get "????? ?" instead of "ÐÐ»ÐµÐºÑ Ðœ" ? EDIT: The input is coming from a page loaded with curl. When I output the page content to my browser, the characters are displayed correctly (so I doubt the input is the problem).

• How can i bundle other files when using cx_freeze?

  I'm using Python 2.6 and cx_Freeze 4.1.2 on a Windows system. I've created the setup.py to build my executable and everything works fine. When cx_Freeze runs it movies everything to the build directory. I have some other files that i would like included in my build directory. How can i do this?
