  I'm using Wix version 3.0.5419.0. I have two .wxs files, one which is a fragment, and another which uses the fragment to create the .msi file. • Mac OS X bypass proxy for certain domains

  In college I'm behind a proxy. When I try to visit one of my local Apache virtual hosts behind the proxy, then my college DNS attempts to resolve the host, thus bypassing my local host file. In the advanced setting for proxies you seem to be able to enter values into "Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains". I added the last 2 to the end - "*.local, 169.254/16, *.dev, *.sb". But it doesn't work. Is there a solution?

• WRT54G - how use port forwarding and VNC

  Since I have my home network behind a WRT54G, the router has an external "real" IP address, and the PCs behind it have 192.168.xxx.xxx addresses. I would like to be able to control one of them remotely - preferably using UltraVNC, but I am open to suggestions. Since I can't directly address that PC from the internet, I figured I could address a port on my router and have the traffic forwarded to the PC (and the same in the reverse direction). Is that feasible? Can anyone tell me how to do it (or point me to an URL that does)? Thanks

• Running a reverse proxy in front of Splunk 4.x

  So, I have previously installed Splunk 3.x behind a reverse proxy and downloaded the latest version (4.0.6 at time of typing) expecting it to be as easy to use as before. Sadly this was not the case. There appears to be some elements which are not being translated correctly through the reverse proxy, causing Splunk to fail. I have used the following configuration in Apache2 to no avail: ServerName monitoringbox.com DocumentRoot /path/to/nowhere ProxyRequests off ProxyPass /splunk http://127.0.0.1:8000/splunk ProxyPassReverse /splunk http://127.0.0.1:8000/splunk Order allow,deny Allow from all Has anyone else had more luck than me in setting up Splunk 4.x behind a reverse proxy?

• Dual Nic, one keeps dropping

  I'm running windows server 2008 r2 on a dell poweredge 2850. I have 2 NICs, one is configured behind a firewall with a dhcp server on the main local LAN and another one has it's own dedicated connection to one of our 13 static IPs. So in a nutshell we have 2 of our static IPs going to this server, one indirectly through a firewall/dhcp server, and the other directly. I am trying to reach IIS on port 80 and port 443. The problem is that the NIC with the direct connection (NIC2) keeps dropping and says either "No internet connection" or "Unauthenticated". However, the NIC behind the firewall (NIC1) has no problems at all. Update: This is the second time this has happened in 3 days and each time the fix has been enabling the dhcp client on the NIC, allowing it to error out to a 169.x.x.x address, then re-enabling the nic with it's static IP assignment.

• Setup Linksys 3200 remote access

  I'm trying to setup remote access for my linksys 3200 so that I can configure it through the WAN port. I have turned on remote access, however when I try to connect I get a 404 error. The settings I have are: When I try to access xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9999 I just get a 404 error. I have allowed RDP access to a computer behind the router and this works fine on the same IP address. Any idea's on what else I have to do to allow remote management access? UPDATE: I tried changing the port to 80 and it works. Change it back to any other number and it doesn't work. Modem is setup with a DMZ to the router's IP. Why does it only work on port 80? BTW I can't use port 80 because there is a website hosted behind the router.

This server is connected to the LAN also and is behind the proxy: The server has a local IP assigned: 10.64.x.x Also, this server has a public IP assigned (or redirected from within the proxy/firewall) which is: 200.41.x.x I can't access public IP from LAN, but I can ping to the public IP from outside the building How should I configure Apache to listen also for public IP and open the 80 port for people accessing from outside the building?. • Email setup on dedicated servers

  Am thinking seriously of renting a dedicated server. Now I know how to setup apache and the underlying scripting engines and databases but I'm a bit clueless with how the emails would work. Currently, I'm on a shared hosting account and I get a fancy gui which allows me to nicely add a domain, setup nameservers and then the emails for all domain names with either simple forwarding or the full account which also has a webmail app behind it. What options do I have? Are there non complicated ways to have the same email setup experience? Or are there reliable external providers I could use? My past experiences with sendmail/postfix have always been fuzzy - not exactly knowing whats happening behind the scenes.

  Machine A is behind a firewall. I have physical access to it, but I want to log into it remotely, and I do not have access to the firewall settings. Machine B is remote, and not behind any firewall. (It's my linode) Machine C is the mobile device I'm going to attempt to ssh into A from. Is there an ssh command that I can run from machine A that connects to machine B and stays open, that will allow me to log into A from C, via B? From the manual I'd guess it would be to run the follwing on A ssh -R *:9999:localhost:22 me@B and then run this on C ssh me@B -p 9999 but the previous command reports "Connection refused."

• SuperMicro IPMI through OpenBSD PF Firewall

  I'm trying to access a SuperMicro IPMI card that is behind an OpenBSD bridged firewall. A couple pieces of information: The OpenBSD firewall itself has a SuperMicro IPMI that I can access across the internet. The IPMI I'm trying to reach can be reached from behind the firewall. My gateway does arp request the IPMI and it does appear to respond (this is from the external interface of the firewall) 16:57:45.548892 arp who-has ipminame tell gwname 16:57:45.549500 arp reply ipminame is-at ipmimac But when I make a request to the IPMI IP from outside the firewall the external interface of the firewall shows no traffic with the IPMI ip as its destination. Any idea what might be causing this problem? Is there something about IPMI traffic that my gateway wouldn't like (the gateway is provided by my colocation provider so I can't easily debug it).

Having been independant/freelance for 5 years or so, and having also had plenty of exposure to perm positions, I've been exposed to many views on what an "Architect" really is. As a result, I've coined the term, "One man's architect is another man's n00b", as it seems to be perpetually relative. I've interviewed at mom-&-pop shops that didn't think I was worth a hill of beans. I've also interviewed at world-class consulting firms who thought I was incredible. Again, it all seems relative. But what specifically makes a software architect a true "Architect"?

  I've created a GRE tunnel between LAN A and LAN B. LAN A is behind a router, and LAN B is behind a Linux box and this box has a pppoe interface. When i do tcpdump on Linux box i see that the traffic is routerd to Linux box (tunnel end), so my need is routing the tunnel traffic to internet.   We have oracle running on Solaris, and the shell is by default CSH. So the login script set the oracle_home,oracle_sid in csh also. But I don't like csh and want to use bash to do my work. So how to source the csh login script in bash? e.g, the following is what in the .cshrc file. And when use bash, I'd like use these variables. One way is to copy the variables again and use bash command, such as export ORACLE_SID=TEST. But doing so will let us to maintain two copy of the files. And when we change the database name, or upgrade the database, I need to maintian the bash login file seperately.   I try and try and try to performance and fix problem with gluster, i try all. I served on gluster webpages, php files, images etc. I have problem after update from 3.3.0 to 3.3.1. I try 3.4 when i think maybe fix it but still the same problem. I temporarily have 1 brick, but before upgrade will be fine. Config: Volume Name: ... Type: Replicate Volume ID: ... Status: Started Number of Bricks: 0 x 2 = 1 Transport-type: tcp Bricks: Brick1: ...:/... Question 1) How do I make it so it returns those with personality type 2 ONLY and no other personality traits? Find any man in the USA that is between 22 and 53 that is of personality type 2 (only) that is looking for a woman. Question 2) Supposing I want to find someone that matches personality type 1, personality type 2, and personality type 5 ONLY. There are 14 personality traits in the database and a user can be associated with any of them. Find any man in the USA that is between 22 and 53 that is of personality type 1, 2, and 5 (ONLY) that is looking for a woman.

  I got an odd request, and I fear it will be closed as off-topic. So be it, but it's worth a shot. I'm creating a presentation about dependency injection and inversion of control, and I thought I'd make the point of interchangeable parts that serve a common purpose, but has different implementations, by showing an image I've seen before. Basically the image is of a man or a woman, but the image is split up into four parts: Head Torso uhm... not sure the name of this part, stomach, etc. Legs Possibly a fifth with feet and for each part you can choose among a few variants, creating odd people in the process. ie. a man torso with a woman head. But, I can't find such an image now of course. Does anyone know of such an image and can provide me with an url?

• Remote Desktop app can't connect through VPN or through RDP load balancer

  Using the regular Remote Desktop Client (in the desktop environment) I can connect just fine to remote servers when connected through Cisco VPN or when accessing a server behind a load balancer. When using the Remote Desktop app in the Modern UI, I can't do either of these things. Trying to connect to a remote server that's on a private network fails with: Can't find server, make sure the name and domain are correct and try again And connecting to a server that's behind an RDP load balancer fails with the following error, after accepting credentials: Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote PC again Is there some way to use the Remote Desktop app in these situations, or am I just out of luck?

• Can only see part of the screen when connecting via NX, how can I control NX size?

  I'm using NoMachine's NX client on OSX 10.7.2 to connect to an NX server running on Ubuntu 10.04.3. I've chosen the Gnome desktop during the connection creation. The NX screen that opens is smaller than the Gnome screen running "behind" it it looks like it's 1024x768, while the screen "behind" it looks to be running 1680x1050. The result is naturally very inconvenient (e.g. can't see the taskbar, can't click lower options in popup menus, etc.). In the past I've used NX client successfully to connect and see the entire screen. Resizing the NX window only resizes the transferred image, but does not let me see more of the Gnome desktop. Playing with the NX client display options also does the same. How can I control the size of the NX client, and make it show the entire Gnome desktop?

• connect to ssh server thru 80 via HTTP proxy?

  Hi, Please help: I want to connect to my ssh server at home However, I'm behind a corporate (CORP) firewall, which blocks almost all ports (443, 22, 23 etc). But it seems that 80 is not blocked, coz I am able to surf the web after I login (i.e. IE sets to CORP's proxy server, and start IE - displayed CORP intranet portal - type in google.com - dialog pops up for userid + pwd - login successful, and surf without restrictions) My ssh server listens at 443. My question is: Is there a way to connect from a computer behind the CORP firewall to the ssh server thru the 80 port, with the ssh server still listening on port 443? Changing the ssh server to listen to port 80 is not an option, coz my home ISP blocks 80. Can I use a public proxy which listens at 80? After some research on google I found that there is something called "connect to SSH thru an HTTP proxy" using the Cockscrew software. Is it useful? Or is there some other way to solve the problem?
