    I am trying to convert an object into JSON using the GSON library on Google App Engine. For some reason, it throws this exception and I don't understand how to solve this. I've created first Activity: public class MyActivity extends Activity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); //setContentView(R.layout.main); Intent myIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("http://my.url.tld")); startActivity(myIntent); } Here's my AndroidManifest.xml: <manifest ...> <application ...> <activity android:name=".MyActivity" ...> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN"/> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER"/> </intent-filter> </activity> This code is fully functional, but before it opens the browser, it displays a black background - blank app GUI. I didn't figured out, how to go directly do the browser (without displaying the GUI). Anyone knows?

  • Terminal / Panel PC - Single Server Solution: Client/Server or RDP?

    Hi, Our current setup involves a touch screen panel pc with embedded windows, that is connected via network to a server / dedicated pc, within the same physical location. Each of our 'units' has this hardware setup. For a quick resolution we deploy our application to the dedicated pc, and have the panel pc remote desktop to an account which then activates the application. This works but seems a little clunky / rough approach. We did this because the panel pc is rather limited. Now that we have more time, I was wondering if I should separate the application into a gui / application. Deploy the gui logic on the panel pc, and the business/database logic on the dedicated pc. The app is in Java so I was wondering what technology would be best? I was thinking of using RMI, but its not really a client/server app, as there is only one client. Should I stick with RMI, or use Sockets or something else? It will be easy to implement as the application is old, and manually wraps and unwraps data which passes through one class / method call to remote services. All I would have to do is 'RMI' this one method call, and the app will do its own stuff. Cheers.

    I have an iPad app that I would like to make Universal, however this seems alarmingly difficult. I've changed things around so that I support both builds, but when building, I get lots of errors about using UIPopOvers. Here're my questions: Why does UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() not compile or register on 3.1.3? Can I conditionally have variables in a class definition based on UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM()? If not, should I make two different view controllers? Thanks!

  • Displaying device contacts with an indication that the contact is registered to the app

    We are developing a mobile app that needs to pick up device contacts, display them and indicate if the contact has already registered with this app. We have our DB in the server and the app fetches data using web services. What will be the best approach to implement the above scenario taking performance into consideration. Option 1: Every time user opens the app,fetch the contacts and send the list of email addresses to the server, check with the registered email ids and return the list of registered users in the contact list. In this approach whenever user opens the particular page, he needs to wait for few seconds to load data, but the contacts will be the latest from the device. Option 2: First time when the user opens the app, fetch contacts ,send the entire list of contacts and save it in the DB, retrieve list of registered users in the contacts then save this to local DB. From now on, data will be fetched from local DB and displayed. When a new user registers in the app, again check with records in central DB and send list of new users who are in your contacts that have registered to your app. This list will be added to local DB. and the process continues. In this case the new contacts added by user will not be updated in the app but retrieval and display of records would be quick. What would be the correct approach? In case there is a better way of doing this, please let me know.

  • Terrible App Review of the Week&ndash;October 2nd

    As some people know, I have a few apps in the Windows Phone Store.  One of these apps was intended to be a gimmicky app that did NOT really do anything useful.  It was just a funny little app that you probably try it once, then almost immediately uninstall.  To my surprise, this app ended up in some of the Top App lists and actually got a large number of downloads (for the Windows Phone Store).  Along with these downloads came a large number of really terrible and offensive reviews.  People are insulting me and saying awful things that they would never say to someone in person (I hope).  I am ok with this.  I can take the bad reviews and it doesn’t really bother me, but I still think that people are incredibly dis-respectful with their app reviews.  So..I am going to start sharing the best of the worst reviews.  If by chance this is your review, please contact me.  I would love to have a quick chat… Literally THE crappiest app I could of downloaded. You might as well rub dog *** in your eyes..... You'd see more!!! Stan8976   P.S. I am not particularly proud of this app, so I am not going to reveal the name.   • Wine right click open is different to terminal "wine appname"

    I have an application (Star Trek Bridge Commander) which runs fine on Wine when I navigate to its directory and 'open with - Wine Windows Program Loader' from the right click menu. Unfortunately, it quits with a runtime error if I try to use 'wine (path)' or 'wine start (path)' in the terminal. This is a problem because I am trying to make a custom shortcut (.desktop file) to open it. Thankyou for any assistance :)

    I know this should be the simplest thing, but coming up empty. ;-( I would like to create a keyboard shortcut ctrl-alt-P that opens a terminal window and runs a ping command: ping -c 4 somefixeddomain.com [Useful for quickly checking whether my internet connection is actually working.] I have attempted to do this (in Unity, Ubuntu v11.10) using: Settings > Keyboard > Custom Shortcuts filling in all the obvious stuff, but no luck. All ideas welcome.

    I recently had to copy about 20 GB of data split between about 20 files from my laptop to an external hard drive. Since this operation takes quite a while (at ~560kb/s), I was wondering if there was any way to pause the transfer and resume it later (in case, I need to interrupt the transfer). As a side question, is there any performance difference between copying from the terminal vs copying from Nautilus?

I was trying to use x11vnc to serve remote desktops to users but from what I have understood [after couple of hours] it directly serves the x display of only one user. I want to have something like windows 2008 login where every user connects and logins to his own desktop and has his own working environment. Is it possible with ubuntu server ? Thank you
