• jQuery in Opera User JS Doesn't Work

  Hello ::- ). I'm playing with some Opera User JS. I included "1jquery.min.js" in my User JS folder (1 in front because Opera loads them alphabetically). Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be working. window.onload = OnWindowLoad; $(document).ready(function() { alert ($('#area_19')); }); function OnWindowLoad () { alert ($('#area_19')); alert(document.getElementById("area_19")); } What's interesting about this code is that the first two alerts come back in NULL, but the last one does find the object! So the element definitely exists in the page, but my jQuery seems unable to get it. What's even stranger is that the jQuery "ready" function works, indicating that I do have jQuery capability. I'm quite puzzled about all this ::- /. Hopefully somebody can give me a clue ::- ).

• Using git branches for variations of a project

  I'm using git's branching feature to manage 5 variations of a small website. There are 5 versions that will all be live in different subdirectories on production. My approach to checking out the various branches to their respective folders was to: mkdir foo && cd foo git init git remote add origin git@...:project.git git fetch origin foo:foo Where "foo" is a given branch name. This was fine, except for that it pulled my entire repo (designs, as3 source, etc...) into those branch folders instead of just the public www folder, which is the only thing I really want on production. Is there a cleaner way to handle this? Git can't clone subdirectories right?

• Creating Item Templates as Visual Studio 2010 Extensions

Problem specification Assume you are writing a Framework for data-oriented applications and you decide to include all your application messages in a SQL server database table. After creating the table, your create a class in your framework for getting messages with a string key specified.   var message = FrameworkMessages.Get("ChangesSavedSuccess");   Everyone would say this code is so error prone, because message keys are not strong-typed, and might create errors in application that are not caught in tests. So we think of a way to make it strong-typed, i.e. create a class to use it like this:   var message = Messages.ChangesSavedSuccess; in Messages class the code looks like this: public string ChangesSavedSuccess {     get { return FrameworkMessages.Get("ChangesSavedSuccess"); } }   And clearly, we are not going to create the Messages class manually; we need a class generator for it.   Again assume that the application(s) that intend to use our framework, contain multiple sub-systems. So each sub-system need to have it’s own strong-typed message class that call FrameworkMessages.Get method. So we would like to make our code generator an Item Template so that each developer would easily add the item to his project and no other works would be necessary.   Solution We create a T4 Text Template to generate our strong typed class from database. Then create a Visual Studio Item Template with this generator and publish it.   What Are T4 Templates You might be already familiar with T4 templates. If it’s so, you can skip this section. T4 Text Template is a fine Visual Studio file type (.tt) that generates output text. This file is a mixture of text blocks and code logic (in C# or VB). For example, you can generate HTML files, C# classes, Resource files and etc with use of a T4 template.   Syntax highlighting In Visual Studio 2010 a T4 Template by default will no be syntax highlighted and no auto-complete is supported for it. But there is a fine visual studio extension named ‘Visual T4’ which can be downloaded free from VisualStudioGallery. This tool offers IntelliSense, syntax coloring, validation, transformation preview and more for T4 templates.     How Item Templates work in Visual Studio Visual studio extensions allow us to add some functionalities to visual studio. In our case we need to create a .vsix file that adds a template to visual studio item templates. Item templates are zip files containing the template file and a meta-data file with .vstemplate extension. This .vstemplate file is an XML file that provides some information about the template. A .vsix file also is a zip file (renamed to .vsix) that are open with visual studio extension installer. (Re-installing a vsix file requires that old one to be uninstalled from VS: Tools > Extension Manager.) Installing a vsix will need Visual Studio to be closed and re-opened to take effect. Visual studio extension installer will easily find the item template’s zip file and copy it to visual studio’s template items folder. You can find other visual studio templates in [<VS Install Path>\Common7\IDE\ItemTemplates] and you can edit them; but be very careful with VS default templates.   How Can I Create a VSIX file 1. Visual Studio SDK depending on your Visual Studio’s version, you need to download Microsoft Visual Studio SDK. Note that if you have VS 2010 SP1, you will need to download and install VS 2010 SP1 SDK; VS 2010 SDK will not be installed (unless you change registry value that indicated your service pack number). Here is the link for VS 2010 SP1 SDK. After downloading, Run it and follow the wizard to complete the installation.   2. Create the file you want to make it an Item Template Create a project (or use an existing one) and add you file, edit it to make it work fine.   Back to our own problem, we need to create a T4 (.tt) template. VS-Prok: Add > New Item > General > Text Template Type a file name, ex. Message.tt, and press Add. The connectionString and systemName are hard coded. so how can I create an flexible item template? One of features of item templates in visual studio is that you can create a designer wizard for your item template, so I can get connection information and system name there. now lets go on creating the vsix file.   3. Create Template In visual studio click on File > Export Template a wizard will show up. if first step click on Item Template on in the combo box select the project that contains Messages.tt. click next. Select Messages.tt from list in second step. click next. In the third step, you should choose References. For this template, System and System.Data are needed so choose them. click next. write down template name, description, if you like add a .ico file as the icon file and also preview image. Uncheck automatically add the templare … . Copy the output location in clip board. click finish.     4. Create VSIX Project In VS, Click File > New > Project > Extensibility > VSIX Project Type a name, ex. FrameworkMessages, Location, etc. The project will include a .vsixmanifest file. Fill in fields like Author, Product Name, Description, etc.   In Content section, click on Add Content. choose content type as Item Template. choose source as file. remember you have the template file address in clipboard? now paste it in front of file. click OK.     5. Build VSIX Project That’s it, build the project and go to output directory. You see a .vsix file. you can run it now. After restarting VS, if you click on a project > Add > New Item, you will see your item in list and you can add it. When you add this item to a project, if it has not references to System and System.Data they will be added. but the problem mentioned in step 2 is seen now.     6. Create Design Wizard for your Item Template Create a project i.e. Windows Application named ‘Framework.Messages.Design’, but better change its output type to Class Library. Add References to Microsoft.VisualStudio.TemplateWizardInterface and envdte Add a class Named MessagesDesigner in your project and Implement IWizard interface in it. After that, two other parameters are added. Now build this project and copy the output assembly to [<VS Install Path>\Common7\IDE] folder.   your designer is ready.     The template that you had created is now added to your VSIX project. In windows explorer open your template zip file (extract it somewhere). open the .vstemplate file. first of all remove <ProjectItem SubType="Code" TargetFileName="$fileinputname$.cs" ReplaceParameters="true">Messages.cs</ProjectItem> because the .cs file is not to be intended to be a part of template and it will be generated. change value of ReplaceParameters for your .tt file to true to enable parameter replacement in this file. now right after </TemplateContent> end element, write this: <WizardExtension>   <Assembly>Framework.Messages.Design</Assembly>   <FullClassName>Framework.Messages.Design.MessageDesigner</FullClassName> </WizardExtension>   one other thing that you should do is to edit your .tt file and remove your .cs file. Lines 8 and 9 of your .tt file should be:     var connectionString = "$connectionString$";     var systemName = "$systemName$"; this parameters will be replaced when the item is added to a project. • Trying to verify understanding of foreign keys SQL Server

  So I'm working on just a learning project to expose myself to doing some things I do not get to do at work. I'm just making a simple bug and case tracking app (I know there are a million this is just to work with some tools I don't get to). So I was designing my database and realized I've never actually used Foreign Keys before in any of my projects, I've used them before but never actually setting up a column as a FK. So I've designed my database as follows, which I think is close to correct (at least for the initial layout). However When I try to add the FK's to the linking Tables I get an error saying, "The tables present in the relationship must have the same number of columns". I'm doing this by in SQLSMS by going to the Keys 'folder' and adding a FK. Is there something that I am doing wrong here, I don't understand why the tables would have to have the same number of columns for me to add a FK relationship between the tables?

  i am trying to use GLM to load a .obj object in my Objective-C Program (Xcode 4.4 Mac Os X). I have added the glm folder to my project. i try to import it using #import "glm/glm.hpp", but the program doesn't build. some of the errors are the following: (this errors are produced in the GLM files) namespace glm{ //Unknown type name 'namespace' namespace detail { ..... it doesn't find the cstdlib, cmath, and other libraries.... This happens because my program is in Objective-c and the GLM doesn't work with this language??? How can i resolve this problem??? Thanks for your help.

• Localization of strings in static lib

  I have a project that uses a static library (SL). In that SL, there are a couple of strings I'd like to localize and the project includes all of the localization files. The localization works just fine when storing all text translations in the same file. The thing is that I'd like to separate the SL strings from the other strings. I have tried to put two different *.strings files (Localizable.strings and Localizable2.strings) in the language folder of interest but that did not work. I have also tried to use two *.strings file with the same name (Localizable.strings) but with different paths. It didn't work either. It seems that only one localization file is supported, right? Could anyone suggest a good way of doing this? I'm using SDK 3.2 beta 2.

• Use same project to create multiple applications on same device

  I am deploying a reader application with it's document packaged in the asset folder. Any branding is done by dynamically generating xml and resources as appropriate. The application name itself is also generated. Since it is the tag's "package" property that needs to be unique, I nevertheless have a problem installing more than one instance of this app. I would like to dynamically edit the manifest package attribute's value to reflect the document and brand that I am building. But this causes build problems, specifically the location of R.java is no longer available to the component package under which the code resides. Originally, the component package is the same as the application manifest package. But precisely this manifest package name is the part that needs to be variable. How should I best proceed?

• ASP.NET MVC 2 relative paths for scripts and styles

  Hi, having this really silly problem in ASP.NET MVC 2 with .NET 4. I need to test other pages using localhost, but sometimes I need to show the page to some else on another computer and so need to path out to my machine. In doing so, I need to use relative paths for my and tags. When I test through VS, I use relative path: <script src="../../Scripts/somejavascript.js"></script> <link href="../../Styles/somestyle.css" /> However, when I publish to local IIS, I'm having all sorts of problems beacuse the Scripts and Styles folder are at the same directory level, but it seems like I have to path out differently. For example, in the scenario above the styles will be picked up but the JavaScript won't be. Any ideas on how best to path out, relatively using MVC 2?

  Hi, im using linux with gedit which has the wonderful habit of creating a temp file with a tilde at the end for every file I edit. im trying to move all of these files at once to a different folder using the following: find . -iname “*.php~” -exec mv {} /mydir \; However, its now giving me syntax errors, as if it were searching through each file and trying to move the piece of text. I just want to move all of the files ending in .php~ to another directory. Any idea how I do that? Cheers Ke

• LocalUser access for WCF hosted in IIS

  I have tried every combination to allow unauthenticated access to WCF as in "LocalUser" accounts, in IIS without success. Here is what I've most recently tried: wsHttpBinding with Message security and mode set to "None". IIS anonymous access enabled, all others disabled, folder level access at default (but granted read access to "Users" which is all users in our domain). I understand I may not have provided enough information to solve the issue, but perhaps somebody can point me in the right direction - is this likely to be a IIS configuration issue or a WCF configuration issue... if WCF, is it likely to be a client level or server level issue? The error I get when attempting to access here is "User is not authenticated". We have ASMX services in the domain which are behaving properly, I am the first developer using WCF here.

• How do you make sure email you send programmatically is not automatically marked as spam?

  This is a tricky one - and I've always relied on techniques such as permission-based emails (i.e. only sending to people you have permission to send to) and not using blatantly spamish terminology. Of late, some of the emails I send out programmatically have started being shuffled into people's spam folder automatically - and I'm wondering what i can do about it. This is despite the fact that these particular emails are not ones that humans would mark as spam (specifically, they are emails that contain license keys that people have paid good money for, so I don't think they're going to consider them spam) I figure this is a big topic in which I am essentially an ignorant simpleton.

  HI there! I've run into some problem while learning to combine .sh files and PHP. I've create a file test.sh and in that file I call a PHP file called test.php. If I double click on the .sh file then it runs perfectly but when I try to run it from the terminal I get "command not found". I'm in the exact folder as my .sh file but it wont work. Here's my test.sh: #!/bin/bash LIB=${0/%cli/} exec php -q ${LIB}test.php one two three exit; When I doubleclick on the test.sh file then it returns the argv array like it suppost to. But why can't I run it from terminal?

  Hi, Want to create a directory on windows from a PHP script. My script is in www/Test directory of Apache and want to create a folder(fold1) inside www/downloads directory. Inside the script, using, $dirName = "../downloads/fold1"; mkdir("{$dirName}"); If we use the full path of dirName like C:\Apache\www\downloads\fold1, it works fine.   I need to deploy the language packs for the ReportViewer 2010 control (the english one is installed and working perfectly). Before, with ReportViewer 2008 and 2005, all the supported laguages were available on the MS downloads site. I can't seem to find them for the RC of 2010 -- are they available anywhere? From MSDN: To use the localized version of the ReportViewer control redistributable that comes with Visual Studio, do the following: 1.Run ReportViewer.exe. 2.Navigate to the folder that contains the language pack you want to use. Language pack folders are located at %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\BootStrapper\Packages\ReportViewer\. 3.Run ReportViewerLP.exe. • Debugging with only the .exe

  HI: I've a Delphi 7 program that I wrote many years ago, but I've lost the source code. It's a small program but very useful for me. I've tried to 'install' it again in a new Windows XP computer, just copying the folder with de data (.db paradox files), and configured the BDE connection. When the programm starts I receive an "Unknown exception" and halts. I've no idea why this happens, and can't debug cause the lost source code. I've tried in another computer with the same results. Any suggestions or ideas? What do you do in a situation like this? Thanks in advance.

  Hello SO, I would like to have a confirmation on some point. My goal is to always get the same string (which is the URI in my case) while reading the href property from a link. Example: <a href="test.htm" /> with base_url = http://domain.name/ <a href="../test.htm" /> with base_url = http://domain.name/domain/ <a href="http://domain.name/test.htm" /> with base_url = any folder from http://domain.name/ I need to get http://domain.name/test.htm from the 3 situations above (or any other identical string). After some tests, it appears that my_a_dom_node.href always return the full-qualified URI, including the http://domaine.name, which should be okay for what I want. jQuery has a different behaviour and $(my_a_dom_node).attr('href') returns the content (text) that appears inside the HTML. So my trick is to use $(my_a_dom_node).get(0).href to get the full URI. The question is: can I rely on this?

  Hey, I would like to use Android for Model-Driven-Software-Development. For this, I need to locate the Android Model in the SDK. I already searched a while for it, but were not able to find it. Has anyone an idea where it could be? Is it possible, that it is the AndroidManifest.xml-File in the folder android-sdk-\platforms\android-x\android.jar? After unpacking this file, I am not able to open that file correctly on Windows XP, because a lot of characters have the wrong character set. • "Could not load file or assembly" error on trying to access auxillary assemblies from COM

  We have the project structure as follows: COMExposedCCW.dll -refers- BusinessLayer.dll -refers- Utils.dll COMExposedCCW.dll -refers- Utils.dll The COMExposedCCW.dll has been registered for COM interop. From the COM application{Excel} we can successfully create the CCW object and access its properties, but when we try to invoke methods that refer to the Business/Utils layer, it throws an exception that the file or assembly{Business/Utils} could not be found. The Business/Utils dlls are present in the same folder as the CCW. On copying the Business/Utils to the COM application directory it works fine. I've tried the following: Set "HintPath/" in the CCW project I dont want to dynamically load the assemblies using Reflection {there should be a more elegant solution} Thanks in advance.

• A better way of switching between Android source versions

  I would like to be able to switch between various android releases (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, etc.) and then access them via the file system to copy all files for that version into a tarball. Currently I am just running repo init -u <source URL> -b release-1. to get each version (changing the tag for each version I need). If this was a single git, I could check out the branch/tag I needed and the prject directory would "morph" to reflect then and I could just tar that folder. since the android source is split into multiple git repositories controlled by repo I have not yet found a way to change this other then the method mentioned above. any suggestions are appreciated.

• Navingating to an .html file in the assembly

  I’m working with the WPF WebBrowser control to navigate to a html page hosting Silverlight. It seems I cannot use the NavigateToString or NavigateToStream method since I have Silverlight content. The html content loads fine but not Silverlight. So I think I’ll have to use the Navigate method which takes an Uri. Now I html page I’d like to navigate to is in a .html file in my Visual Studio project so I will have to have a local uri of some sort. I don’t want the html file to be copied to the output folder since I don’t want to distribute it separately; I want it to be somehow included in the assembly. The problem is that the WebBrowser control doesn’t seem to allow relative Uris or pack://application: uris. How could I accomplish navingating to an .html file in the assembly?
