  • setInterval works only the first time

    - by Neil
Hi, I am trying to use setTimer to animate a slide show using straightforward jQuery. I provide the user with a button (in the form of a "DIV" with a button background image) that he clicks to start the show and which then turns into a pause button. The slides are supposed to change every 3 seconds. Here is the relevant code: playLink = $('<div id="lbPlayLink" />').click(function(){ $(playLink).hide(); $(pauseLink).show(); slideInterval = setInterval(function(){next()}, 3000) })[0]; pauseLink = $('<div id="lbPauseLink" />').click(function(){ $(playLink).show(); $(pauseLink).hide(); clearInterval(slideInterval); }).hide()[0]; The next() function call does the work of replacing the slide with the next one. I have checked out this function and it works perfectly if I call it directly (synchronously), however, when it gets called asonchronously by the "setInterval", it works fine the first time (3 seconds after I click on the button), but is never called again, even though it should be called 3 seconds later. I know it's never called as I put an "alert" call at the beginning and end of the function. If I replace the "next()" call in the "setInterval" by "alert('test')" then I can see the setInterval is doing what it is supposed to. I can't for the life of me see why "alert()" is OK but "next()" isn't, unless it has something to do with "scope" of functions, but in that case why does it work the first time? I've tried debugging the code with firebug, but it can't really help with timeout functions like this. Neither Firefox nor IE8 show any error messages. I've looked through the various posts here and elsewhere on setInterval, but can't see anything relevant that I haven't tried already. I've been experimenting now for about 3 hours and it's doing my head in. Can anyone suggest what I can try next? Thanks in advance Neil

  • How does Google Wave & iGoogle prevent XSS by a widget?

    - by Axel
Hello, If you've used Google Wave or iGoogle you have probably seen that you can insert widgets that are made by third parties without approval. My question is: How does prevent the widge from performing XSS or steak cookies? Are the widgets loaded in an <iframe>? If yes, then what prevents them from redirecting you to another page? Thanks

  • Re-Centering JQuery Tooltips when resizing the window

    - by leeand00
I have written a function that positions a tooltip just above a textbox. The function takes two arguments: textBoxId - The ID of the textbox above which the tooltip will appear. Example: "#textBoxA" toolTipId - The ID of the tooltip which will appear above the textbox. Example: "#toolTipA" function positionTooltip(textBoxId, toolTipId){ var hoverElementOffsetLeft = $(textBoxId).offset().left; var hoverElementOffsetWidth = $(textBoxId)[0].offsetWidth; var toolTipElementOffsetLeft = $(toolTipId).offset().left; var toolTipElementOffsetWidth = $(toolTipId)[0].offsetWidth; // calcluate the x coordinate of the center of the hover element. var hoverElementCenterX = hoverElementOffsetLeft + (hoverElementOffsetWidth / 2); // calculate half the width of the toolTipElement var toolTipElementHalfWidth = toolTipElementOffsetWidth / 2; var toolTipElementLeft = hoverElementCenterX - toolTipElementHalfWidth; $(toolTipId)[0].style.left = toolTipElementLeft + "px"; var toolTipElementHeight = $(toolTipId)[0].offsetHeight; var hoverElementOffsetTop = $(textBoxId).offset().top; var toolTipYCoord = hoverElementOffsetTop - toolTipElementHeight; toolTipYCoord = toolTipYCoord - 10; $(toolTipId)[0].style.top = toolTipYCoord + "px"; $(toolTipId).hide(); $(textBoxId).hover( function(){ $(toolTipId + ':hidden').fadeIn(); }, function(){ $(toolTipId + ':visible').fadeOut(); } ); $(textBoxId).focus ( function(){ $(toolTipId + ':hidden').fadeIn(); } ); $(textBoxId).blur ( function(){ $(toolTipId+ ':visible').fadeOut(); } ); } The function works fine upon initial page load: However, after the user resizes the window the tooltips move to locations that no longer display above their associated textbox. I've tried writing some code to fix the problem by calling the positionTooltip() function when the window is resized but for some reason the tooltips do not get repositioned as they did when the page loaded: var _resize_timer = null; $(window).resize(function() { if (_resize_timer) {clearTimeout(_resize_timer);} _resize_timer = setTimeout(function(){ positionTooltip('#textBoxA', ('#toolTipA')); }, 1000); }); I'm really at a loss here as to why it doesn't reposition the tooltip correctly as it did when the page was initially loaded after a resize.

  • DOM Elements with same id and jQuery

    - by Steve
    Hi I have multiple elements with the same structure in my application. Second div element's id varies as per the comment id in the db which is unique. There are elements with the id 'vote_up' and 'vote_down'. This gets repeated for each comment.What happens is that, as I mentioned, there are multiple comments. I want to perform an Ajax request. First of this structure functions properly using ajax, but the rest does an http request. Btw I am developing a rails application and I am using jQuery. <div id="post_comment"> john<i> says </i> Comment<br/> <div id="comment_10_div"> **<form action="/comments/vote_up" id="vote_up" method="post">** <div style="margin:0;padding:0;display:inline"> <input name="authenticity_token" type="hidden" value="w873BgYHLxQmadUalzMRUC+1ql4AtP3U7f78dT8x9ho=" /> </div> <input id="Comment_place_id" name="Comment[post_id]" type="hidden" value="3" /> <input id="Comment_id" name="Comment[id]" type="hidden" value="10" /> <input id="Comment_user_id" name="Comment[user_id]" type="hidden" value="2" /> <input name="commit" type="submit" value="Vote up" /> </form> <label id="comment_10">10</label> **<form action="/comments/vote_down" id="vote_down" method="post">** <div style="margin:0;padding:0;display:inline"> <input name="authenticity_token" type="hidden" value="w873BgYHLxQmadUalzMRUC+1ql4AtP3U7f78dT8x9ho=" /> </div> <input id="Comment_place_id" name="Comment[place_id]" type="hidden" value="3" /> <input id="Comment_id" name="Comment[id]" type="hidden" value="10" /> <input id="Comment_user_id" name="Comment[user_id]" type="hidden" value="2" /> <input name="commit" type="submit" value="Vote Down" /> </form> </div> Can you please help me to solve this Thanks

  • How to add animation on open of a Jquery SimpleModal?

    - by Obay
The animation-enabled example in the SimpleModal site has this animation: 1. Fade in the overlay 2. Slide down the modal div This is the code: $("#the-div").modal({ onOpen: function (dialog) { dialog.overlay.fadeIn('fast', function () { dialog.data.hide(); dialog.container.show('fast', function () { dialog.data.slideDown('fast'); }); }); }}); I want this animation instead: 1. Just display the modal 2. Fade in the overlay Alas, simply removing the 2nd parameter of dialog.overlay.fadeIn() from the code above doesn't work. I also tried removing the parameters of dialog.container.show(), also changing it to dialog.container.open(). I've tried other combinations of the code, to no avail. How do I achieve the animation that I wish?

  • JQuery jqGrid vertical spacing issue in IE

    - by JW
    I have been developing an app to use jQuery's jqGrid plugin, and I thought I had it all wrapped up until I tried to view the grid in IE. In IE, the grid appears with a much larger height in the .ui-jqgrid-view div, but the data itself stays at a smaller size and displays at the bottom of the container div (.ui-jqgrid-view). I need to get the grid to display "properly". I don't care if it is the larger size (that IE displays) or smaller (as in FF)... I just need to have the data fill the grid area. Thanks! I uploaded a screenshot: here Grid Code: $("#list").jqGrid({ url: gDataPath, datatype: 'json', mtype: 'GET', colNames: ['Id', 'VId', 'First Name', 'Last Name', 'MId'], colModel: [ { name: 'ID1', index: 'ID1', width: 75, align: 'left' }, { name: 'VID', index: 'VID', width: 75, align: 'left' }, { name: 'FirstName', index: 'FirstName', width: 225, align: 'left' }, { name: 'LastName', index: 'LastName', width: 225, align: 'left' }, { name: 'MIDno', index: 'MIDno', width: 260, align: 'left'}], pager: jQuery('#pager'), rowNum: 100, rowList: [50, 100, 200, 500], sortname: 'ID1', sortorder: "desc", viewrecords: true, imgpath: 'http://mysite/Content/images', caption: 'Project Name Data', ondblClickRow: function(rowid, iRow, iCol) { var i = jQuery("#list").getRowData(rowid); window.location = '<%=linkPath %>/'+ i.VisitID; } });

  • How can I call a function at the very end of document.ready

    - by Umair
I have multiple document.ready functions on a page and I want a function to be called when all my document.ready functions have been executed. I simply want the function to be called at the very end, after all other document.ready functions have executed. An example of this could be that each document.ready function increments a global variable when it has been executed, and the last function needs to check the value of that variable at the very end. Any ideas ?

  • How do I catch jQuery $.getJSON (or $.ajax with datatype set to 'jsonp') error when using JSONP?

    - by Andy May
Is it possible to catch an error when using JSONP with jQuery? I've tried both the $.getJSON and $.ajax methods but neither will catch the 404 error I'm testing. Here is what I've tried (keep in mind that these all work successfully, but I want to handle the case when it fails): jQuery.ajax({ type: "GET", url: handlerURL, dataType: "jsonp", success: function(results){ alert("Success!"); }, error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown){ alert("Error"); } }); And also: jQuery.getJSON(handlerURL + "&callback=?", function(jsonResult){ alert("Success!"); }); I've also tried adding the $.ajaxError but that didn't work either: jQuery(document).ajaxError(function(event, request, settings){ alert("Error"); }); Thanks in advance for any replies!

  • Why Virtual keyboard does not trigger AutocompleteList?

    - by ali.msgh
Hi, I have to use a Virtual(on screen) keyboard on a asp:textbox which has a AjaxControlToolkit's automcomplete attached to it, the virtual keyboard I use is the jQuery keypad plug in: http://keith-wood.name/keypadRef.html , but I have some problems with combining these two: Typing in the virtual keyboard does not trigger the Autocomplete list. When the textbox has autopostback=true if you click anything on virtual keyboard the textbox loses its focus and posts the form.

  • cannot get thickbox to open / tb_show function ignored

    - by user357034
I have two links that should open up thickbox's in iframes but only one works (the one with the id of product_photo_zoom_url2). I have the following jquery code that works when this code... All that happens when the first zoom image is clicked is the page goes to the top so it seems that the .click bind is being ignored? How do I get this to work? onload="vZoom.add(this, '/v/vspfiles/photos/70367301P-2.jpg');" / is removed from the markup. The above code loads a picture zoom function. See complete markup below. var titleattr = $("a#product_photo_zoom_url").attr("title"); function picurl() { tb_show(titleattr, '/PhotoDetails.asp?ShowDESC=N&ProductCode='+ global_URL_Encode_Current_ProductCode + '&TB_iframe=true&height=600&width=520');return false; } $("a#product_photo_zoom_url").click(picurl); $("a#product_photo_zoom_url2").click(picurl); $("a#product_photo_zoom_url").attr('href', '#'); $("a#product_photo_zoom_url2").attr('href', '#'); Here is the html code <a id="product_photo_zoom_url" href="/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=70367301P" title="70367301P Ignition Box"> <img id="product_photo" src="/v/vspfiles/photos/70367301P-2T.jpg" border="0" alt="70367301P Ignition Box" onload="vZoom.add(this, '/v/vspfiles/photos/70367301P-2.jpg');" /></a>

  • Is there any project estimation tool to give estimate for web design/ development work?

    - by jitendra
Is there any project estimation tool which gives estimates for web design/ development work? I don't have to calculate Price just want to calculate estimated time. Just for example, for things like: Page creation (layout in XHTML) CSS creation Content creation (Word to HTML, including images in some pages) Bulk PDF upload PHP Script for Form Testing all pages I need like Items Quantity Time for each task(min) Estimated total (in hour) PDF upload x 30 = 2 min = 60 Min pages with images x 30 = 15 min for each = 60 Min Is there any simple JQuery calculator power with JQuery? Where we can add add/remove custom thing to calculate time? Or any other free online/offline tool ?

  • how to find selected elements with Jquery UI selectable

    - by kevzettler
Hi All, I am looking for info on the event and ui objects the jquery selectable events: "selecting", and "start" take as parameters. I cannot find this in the documentation and looping through the properties is no help. $('#content_td_account').selectable({ filter: 'li:not(".non_draggable")', selecting: function(event, ui) { } }); Specifically I want to find what elements are being selected and check them to see if their parent elements are the same or not. I assumed this would be in the ui object some where.

  • window.beforeunload called twice in Firefox - how to get around this?

    - by Zarkonnen
I'm creating a popup window that has a beforeunload handler installed. When the "Close" file menu item is used to close the popup, the beforeunload handler is called twice, resulting in two "Are you sure you want to close this window?" messages appearing. This is a bug with Firefox, and I've reported it here, but I still would like a way to prevent this from happening. Can you think of a sane way of detecting double beforeunload to prevent the double message problem? The problem is that Firefox doesn't tell me which button in the dialog the user elected to click - OK or cancel.

  • Rails "Load more..." instead of pagination.

    - by Joseph Silvashy
I have a list of elements, and I've been using will_paginate up until now, but I'd like to have something like "load more..." at the bottom of the list. Is there an easy way to accomplish this using will_paginate or do I need to resort to some other method here? From what I know this is a better route anyhow because then I don't need a SQL count of the records. And it really doesn't matter if there are like 9,847 pages, nobody would need the records beyond the first couple pages anyhow.

  • jQuery offset() not working in some browsers, on some computers

    - by Peter Di Cecco
I have a problem positioning an element in certain browsers. I'm using the jQuery autocomplete found here. The div containing autocomplete values should be directly under the text box, and line up perfectly. The code sets the css left property of the div by using the left property generated by $(textbox).offset(); After un-packing the code to try and fix my problem, I get this: var a = $(textbox).offset(); element.css({ width: typeof e.width == "string" || e.width > 0 ? e.width : $(textbox).width(), top: a.top + textbox.offsetHeight, left: a.left }).show(); This seems like it should work, and it does work in Firefox. It doesn't work in IE8, Chrome. The top position is always correct, but the sometimes the div is too far to the left, or too far to the right. On different computers (all with Windows XP), it works in IE8... how can this be? I've also tested it on my Mac, OS 10.5. It works in Firefox, but not Safari. I've disabled plug-ins, changed screen resolutions, re-sized windows... It just inconsistently works in some places sometimes. Can anyone think of something I'm missing?

  • Cladogram, tree of life, cladistics, taxonomy in JS or canvas?

    - by boblet
Good people - I need some help to find a way to create an interactive cladogram or phylogenetic tree (yes, I have read all related posts, and do not find what I am looking for). The thing is, I need the nodes to be name-able. An example would be something like this Most scripts I find are either applets, flash, or simply do not show the node classification, ie it would skip "feliformia" in this example. This is useless to me, as I would then end up with carnivore - anonymous node - anonymous node - anonymous node - tiger, and that is not good. This tree will in theory cover all life, so it could get rather large, and get links and names in english and latin from database. So: no flash, no applets. It must be horizontal, no supertrees (circular). I have gone through this http://bioinfo.unice.fr/biodiv/Tree_editors.html but most of them seems to be either old, not displaying sub-node levels, applets, or way too complex. I imagine this would be a delightful job for canvas/jQuery..? And chances are, someone got there before me? Any pointers much appreciated. Note: if anyone out there would like to do something like this as a project, I will be happy to help, even though it would not benefit me for this project. This type of taxonomy is not as simple as it may seem, and I would be happy see this happen.

  • Chrome extensions: Content script (jQuery) in Youtube does not work properly

    - by Fabian
I have this: $(document).ready(function() { $("button.yt-uix-expander-arrow").attr("id", "yt-uix-expander-arrow"); $("#yt-uix-expander-arrow").mouseover(function() { alert("Hello"); }); }); injected into Youtube. Using right click inspect element, the <button class="yt-uix-expander-arrow"> has a id="yt-uix-expander-arrow" attribute successfully added to it. However the mouseover event does not trigger. However if I were to change $("#yt-uix-expander-arrow").mouseover() to $(".yt-uix-expander-arrow").mouseover() it works. That's very unusual, because the #yt-uix-expander-arrow id has already been added to the button element. I tested it out on Facebook, adding a id to a class and doing a mouseover() event on the ID and it works. Any idea?

  • jQuery in Opera User JS Doesn't Work

    - by Axonn
Hello ::- ). I'm playing with some Opera User JS. I included "1jquery.min.js" in my User JS folder (1 in front because Opera loads them alphabetically). Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be working. window.onload = OnWindowLoad; $(document).ready(function() { alert ($('#area_19')); }); function OnWindowLoad () { alert ($('#area_19')); alert(document.getElementById("area_19")); } What's interesting about this code is that the first two alerts come back in NULL, but the last one does find the object! So the element definitely exists in the page, but my jQuery seems unable to get it. What's even stranger is that the jQuery "ready" function works, indicating that I do have jQuery capability. I'm quite puzzled about all this ::- /. Hopefully somebody can give me a clue ::- ).
