• Django, ModelForms, User and UserProfile - not hashing password

  I'm trying to setup a User - UserProfile relationship, display the form and save the data. When submitted, the data is saved, except the password field doesn't get hashed. Additionally, how can I remove the help_text from the username and password (inherited from the User model)? Full code is below, excuse me if it's too long. • How should I setup my Visual Studio projects/solutions in a Mercurial repository?

  At my company we have a few different web apps that each share some common libraries. The Visual Studio setup looks like this. Website 1 Solution Website 1 Shared Library 1 Project Shared Library 2 Project Website 2 Solution Website 2 Shared Library 1 Project Shared Library 2 Project Windows Service Solution Windows Service Project Shared Library 1 Project Shared Library 2 Project Shared Library Solution Shared Library 1 Project Shared Library 2 Project All Projects Solution Website 1 Website 2 Windows Service Project Shared Library 1 Project Shared Library 2 Project We want to start using Mercurial for source control, but I'm still not sure the best way to do it. From what I've read you're supposed to use a separate repository for each project. No problem there, but where do the Visual Studio solution files (.sln) go? Should there be a separate repository with just an .sln file? Ideally the projects that use the shared libraries should all use the same version, and the solution "All Projects Solution" should build without errors, but sometimes we need to branch the shared libraries. What is the best way to do this, and how would the repositories be setup? How do I get a working copy of a certain branch/tag of the Website 1 solution when every project is in a separate repository. Do I have to pull each one separately, or write a script to do it all at once? Can tortoise hg do that for me? Any other tips to make this process easier?

• Problem with Core Data - EXC_BAD_ACCESS

  I'm using the following code and I'm getting an EXC_BAD_ACCESS when trying to get the count of objects - anyone have any idea why? Oddly enough, the error only happens if the count should be one or greater, if there are no objects it seems to work fine (it outputs null).   I have this model in django: class JournalsGeneral(models.Model): jid = models.AutoField(primary_key=True) code = models.CharField("Code", max_length=50) name = models.CharField("Name", max_length=2000) url = models.URLField("Journal Web Site", max_length=2000, blank=True) online = models.BooleanField("Online?") active = models.BooleanField("Active?") class Meta: db_table = u'journals_general' verbose_name = "Journal General" ordering = ['code'] def __unicode__(self): return self.name My problem is that in the DB (Postgres) the name of the sequence connected to jid is not journals_general_jid_seq as expected by Django but it has a different name. Is there a way to specify which sequence Django has to use for an AutoField? In the documentation I read I was not able to find an answer.

• Custom Sorting on Custom Field in Django

  In my app, I have defined a custom field to represent a physical quantity using the quantities package. class AmountField(models.CharField): def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs): ... def to_python(self, value): create_quantities_value(value) Essentially the way it works is it extends CharField to store the value as a string in the database "12 min" and represents it as a quantities object when using the field in a model array(12) * min Then in a model it is used as such: class MyModel(models.Model): group = models.CharField() amount = AmountField() class Meta: ordering = ['group', 'amount'] My issue is that these fields do not seem to sort by the quantity, but instead by the string. So if I have some objects that contain something like {"group":"A", "amount":"12 min"} {"group":"A", "amount":"20 min"} {"group":"A", "amount":"2 min"} {"group":"B", "amount":"20 min"} {"group":"B", "amount":"1 hr"} they end up sorted something like this: >>> MyModel.objects.all() [{A, 12 min}, {A, 2 min}, {A, 20 min}, {B, 1 hr}, {B, 20 min}] essentially alphabetical order. Can I give my custom AmountField a comparison function so that it will compare by the python value instead of the DB value?

• google maps api : internal server error when inserting a feature

  Hi, I try to insert features on a custom google map : i use the sample code from the doc but i get a ServiceException (Internal server error) when i call the service's insert method. Here is what i do : I create a map and get the resulting MapEntry object : myMapEntry = (MapEntry) service.insert(mapUrl, myEntry); This works fine : i can see the map i created in "my maps" on google. I use the feed url from the map to insert a feature : final URL featureEditUrl = myMapEntry.getFeatureFeedUrl(); I create a kml string using the sample from the doc : String kmlStr = "< Placemark xmlns=\"http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2\">" + "<name>Aunt Joanas Ice Cream Shop</name>" + "<Point>" + "<coordinates>-87.74613826475604,41.90504663195118,0</ coordinates>" + "</Point></Placemark>"; And when i call the insert method i get an internal server error. • Prevent Ninject from calling Initialize multiple times when binding to several interfaces

  Hi We have a concrete singleton service which implements Ninject.IInitializable and 2 interfaces. Problem is that services Initialize-methdod is called 2 times, when only one is desired. We are using .NET 3.5 and Ninject 2.0.0.0. Is there a pattern in Ninject prevent this from happening. Neither of the interfaces implement Ninject.IInitializable. the service class is: public class ConcreteService : IService1, IService2, Ninject.IInitializable { public void Initialize() { // This is called twice! } } And module looks like this: public class ServiceModule : NinjectModule { public override void Load() { this.Singleton<Iservice1, Iservice2, ConcreteService>(); } } where Singleton is an extension method defined like this: public static void Singleton<K, T>(this NinjectModule module) where T : K { module.Bind<K>().To<T>().InSingletonScope(); } public static void Singleton<K, L, T>(this NinjectModule module) where T : K, L { Singleton<K, T>(module); module.Bind<L>().ToMethod(n => n.Kernel.Get<T>()); } Of course we could add bool initialized-member to ConcreteService and initialize only when it is false, but it seems quite a bit of a hack. And it would require repeating the same logic in every service that implements two or more interfaces. Thanks for all the answers! I learned something from all of them! (I am having a hard time to decide which one mark correct). We ended up creating IActivable interface and extending ninject kernel (it also removed nicely code level dependencies to ninject, allthough attributes still remain).

  I'm working on a metaprogramming task, where I'm trying to use a single method to define a polymorphic association in the calling class, while also defining the association in the target class. I need to pass in the name of the calling class to get the association right. • Handling dependencies with IoC that change within a single function call

  We are trying to figure out how to setup Dependency Injection for situations where service classes can have different dependencies based on how they are used. In our specific case, we have a web app where 95% of the time the connection string is the same for the entire Request (this is a web application), but sometimes it can change. For example, we might have 2 classes with the following dependencies (simplified version - service actually has 4 dependencies): public LoginService (IUserRepository userRep) { } public UserRepository (IContext dbContext) { } In our IoC container, most of our dependencies are auto-wired except the Context for which I have something like this (not actual code, it's from memory ... this is StructureMap): x.ForRequestedType().Use() .WithCtorArg("connectionString").EqualTo(Session["ConnString"]); For 95% of our web application, this works perfectly. However, we have some admin-type functions that must operate across thousands of databases (one per client). Basically, we'd want to do this: public CreateUserList(IList<string> connStrings) { foreach (connString in connStrings) { //first create dependency graph using new connection string ???? //then call service method on new database _loginService.GetReportDataForAllUsers(); } } My question is: How do we create that new dependency graph for each time through the loop, while maintaining something that can easily be tested?

• Python utf-8 decoding issue with hashlib.digest() method

  Hello StackOverflow community, Using Google App Engine, I wrote a keyToSha256() method within a model class (extending db.Model) : class Car(db.Model): def keyToSha256(self): keyhash = hashlib.sha256(str(self.key())).digest() return keyhash When displaying the output (ultimately within a Django template), I get garbled text, for example : ?????_??!`?I?!?;?QeqN??Al?'2 I was expecting something more in line with this : 9f86d081884c7d659a2feaa0c55ad015a3bf4f1b2b0b822cd15d6c15b0f00a08 Am I missing something important ? Despite reading several guides on ASCII, Unicode, utf-8 and the like, I think I'm still far from mastering the secrets of string encoding/decoding. After browsing StackOverflow and searching for insights via Google, I figured out I should ask the question here. Any idea ? Thanks !

  I have a UIScrollView with only horizontal scrolling allowed, and I would like to know which direction (left, right) the user scrolls.   I just started playing with Django today and so far am finding it rather difficult to do simple things. What I'm struggling with right now is filtering a list of status types. The StatusTypes model is: class StatusTypes(models.Model): status = models.CharField(max_length=50) type = models.IntegerField() def __unicode__(self): return self.status class Meta: db_table = u'status_types' In one admin page I need all the results where type = 0 and in another I'll need all the results where type = 1 so I can't just limit it from within the model. How would I go about doing this?

  Hello all, I'm trying some basic iPhone programming -- all has been going well but recently I've hit a bit of a roadblock. I've got a chunk of code that's passing an NSMutableDictionary (amongst other things) to a method in another class: [self.shuttle makeAPICallAndReturnResultsUsingMode:@"login" module:@"login" query:credentials]; The NSMutableArray credentials is previously defined a bit above as such: NSMutableDictionary *credentials = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [credentials setObject:username forKey:@"username"]; [credentials setObject:password forKey:@"password"]; The method that receives it looks like such: -(id)makeAPICallAndReturnResultsUsingMode:(NSString *)mode module:(NSString *)module query:(NSMutableDictionary *)query From debugging I have determined that the code works fine up until this point within the above method: [query setObject:self.sessionID forKey:@"session_id"]; At this point, the application terminates -- the Console informs me of this exception: * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '* -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: method sent to an uninitialized mutable dictionary object' This leads me to believe that I must initialize NSMutableDictionary in some way in my new method before I can access it, but I have no idea how. Any advice?

• How to save http referer in rails

  I'm trying to save the site that a user came from when they sign up. Right now I have a before_filter in my ApplicationController: before_filter :save_referer def save_referer unless is_logged_in? session['referer'] = request.env["HTTP_REFERER"] unless session['referer'] end end Then when a user is created, it checks this session variable and sets it to nil. Sometimes this does not work and I'm worried there might be some unintended things happening with using session like this. Does anyone have a better way? Or some input perhaps? EDIT: This is the logic I am using to save the referer: def create @user = User.new(params[:user]) if @user.save_with(session[:referer]) .... end User def save_with(referer) self.referer = referer unless referer == "null" self.save end Is there any reason why this should not work?

• Reading Data from DDFS ValueError: No JSON object could be decoded

  I'm running dozens of map reduce jobs for a number of different purposes using disco. My data has grown enormous and I thought I would try using DDFS for a change rather than standard txt files. I've followed the DISCO map/reduce example Counting Words as a map/reduce job, without to much difficulty and with the help of others, Reading JSON specific data into DISCO I've gotten past one of my latest problems. I'm trying to read data in/out of ddfs to better chunk and distribute it but am having a bit of trouble. • Hide button on first of two UIViews, but have it visible on second...

  So I have a UIViewController (main application controller is a TabBarController). On this there is a UINavigationBar, and a UIBarButtonItem. I'm PRETTY sure I hooked up everything correctly in the Interface Builder and that the outlet in the code is connected to the button in the .xib. It should be because the method works correctly. Now I have another button on this view that brings up a second view, a UIWebView. I want this UIBarButtonItem, labeled "Back", to make the UIWebView dissapear, and bring back the first UIView, which it DOES DO correctly. However, when you are on the first UIView, there is no need to see the UIBarButtonItem, so how can I hide it but then bring it up for the UIWebView. By the way, both views use the same UINavigationBar, the UIWebView is brought up inside the tab bar and the nav bar. Specifically, how do I make so that "all QA servers would first resolve entries in qa.example.com first and then if that lookup failed they would try example.com" (I'm a dev, not a DNS specialist, but our IT Support has refused to help on this:() Use DNS Based Environment Determination for your servers. Do this by initially splitting your top level domain into a number of sub domains depending on their function, and then creating DNS Service Names in each of the sub domains pointing to the relevant server for that service. Based on the list above we would then have: * clientdb.prod.example.com for Production * clientdb.perf.example.com for Performance Testing * clientdb.qa.example.com for QA * clientdb.dev.example.com for Development Servers then resolve entries in their relevant sub domain by function. That is, all QA servers would first resolve entries in qa.example.com first and then if that lookup failed they would try example.com. This allows you to have a single configuration entry for your client database hostname (clientdb) that would resolve correctly in all environments. This technique has the added advantage of still having global services defined in a common top level domain. • How do you determine with CLLocationManager when a user denies access to location services?

  With CLLocationManager I can use the following code to determine if I can access location services on the device. This is the master setting for all apps and can be turned on and off. if (self.locationManager.locationServicesEnabled) { [self.locationManager startUpdatingLocation]; } But a user can deny access to an individual app and in order to not execute the code to use the location manager I need to know if the user approved access to location services for this specific app. I saw that at one point there was a property called locationServicesApproved which appears it would indicate if the user approved access to location services in this app. But it was removed in 2008. Is this feature in the SDK elsewhere? What can I do to determine if the user has approved access to location services for the current app?
