  All, I have a config xml file in the following format: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configdata> <development> <siteTitle>You are doing Development</siteTitle> </development> <test extends="development"> <siteTitle>You are doing Testing</siteTitle> </test> <production extends="development"> <siteTitle>You are in Production</siteTitle> </production> </configdata> To read this config file to apply environment settings, currently I am using, the following code in index.php file: $appEnvironment = "production"; $config = new Zend_Config_Xml('/config/settings.xml', $appEnvironment ); To deploy this code on multiple environments, as user has to change index.php file. Instead of doing that, is it possible to maintain an attribute in the xml file, "say active=true". Based on which the Zend_Config_Xml will know which section of the xml file settings to read? Thanks

• Reading input files in FORTRAN

  Purpose: Create a program that takes two separate files, opens and reads them, assigns their contents to arrays, do some math with those arrays, create a new array with product numbers, print to a new file. Simple enough right? My input files have comment characters at the beginning. One trouble is, they are '#' which are comment characters for most plotting programs, but not FORTRAN. What is a simple way to tell the computer not to look at these characters? Since I have no previous FORTRAN experience, I am plowing through this with two test files. • Error with threads during automatic testing on TeamCity 5

  Hello, I'm having some problems executing the tests of the application I'm developing. All the tests execute normally with ReSharper and in NCover. However, the execution of one of these tests in TeamCity is generating an error. This test initializes two objects, the object under test and a simulator of a real object. Both objects will communicate throug a serial link in a representation of the real scenario. ObjectSimulator r_simulator = new ObjectSimulator(...); ObjectDriver r_driver = new ObjectDriver(...); Assert.IsTrue(r_driver.Connect() == ErrorCode.Success); The simulator just do the following in the constructor public class ObjectSimulator { ... public ObjectSimulator() { // serial port configuration m_port = new SerialPort(); m_port.DataReceived += DataReceivedEvent; } ... } The main object has two threads. The main thread of the application and a timer to refresh a watchdog timer in the real object. public ErrorCode Connect() { ... StartSynchroTimer(); Thread.Sleep(4); // to check if the timer is working properly ... } The problem is comming from the Thread.Sleep() call, as when I remove it everything works. It seems like the ObjectSimulator also sleeps and doesn't receive the DataReceived event. How can I resolve this issue?

• basic file input using C

  So im working on learning how to do file I/O, but the book I'm using is terrible at teaching how to receive input from a file. Below is is their example of how to receive input from a file, but it doesn't work. I have copied it word for word, and it should loop through a list of names until it reaches the end of the file( or so they say in the book), but it doesn't. I am able to select the xElement (xEl1) and update its value.   Hi, I have copied a DB from one my computers and using it here. On trying to open the page which requires the fetching content from DB, on con.open I am getting this exception: Unable to open the physical file "E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\cakephp.mdf". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)". Unable to open the physical file "E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\cakephp_log.LDF". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)". Cannot open database "cakephp" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'Sarin-PC\Sarin'. I have attached the database from Management Studio Express 2008 and I have also checcked the connection string. Here it is: <connectionStrings> <add name="cn" connectionString="server=.\sqlexpress;database=cakephp;integrated security=true;uid=sarin;pwd=******"/> </connectionStrings> In Visual Studio, when I test the connection, it says "Test connection succeeded". • OS monitoring using JAVA

  I'm planning to implement a framework for monitoring OS level resources: process network stats cpu info etc using JAVA. I see there is SIGAR API by Spring, which is implemented in native language and JAVA API being provided on top. But I will prefer not to have native stuff in my framework, rather for each OS will write a Java Class which will fetch required OS info by running system commands via JAVA Runtime. So I would like to have inputs/suggestions that one may have seen of not doing this in JAVA and use native app/api/jni. Any example will help for sure. I agree each OS has different commands to get these stats, but will prefer to have a Java Class per OS than have/load native code.

• Large number of tables and Hibernate memory consumption

  I'm working on a large ERP project which has database model with about 2100 tables. With "only" 500 tables mapped with Hibernate, application deployed on the web server takes about 3GB of working memory. Is there any way to reduce Hibernate's metamodel memory footprint when using that many tables in one persistence unit? Or should I just give up on ORMs and go with plain old JDBC (or even jOOQ)? Right now I'm using Hibernate 4.1.8, Spring 3.1.3, JBoss AS 7.1 and working with MSSQL database. Edit: JavaMelody memory histogram output - with 2000 generated test tables that are a bit smaller in scope from the original db model (hence 'only' 1.3GB of spent memory)

I do get the messagebox "Updated", and if I open the resulting exe in Resource Hacker the resource gets replaced but the icon doesn't appear, its just empty. Also that code wont replace, the type "Icon" in the resource, it will delete everything and add that "Icon" and if I use BeginUpdateResource(path, false); it will not replace it neither but it will add ANOTHER "Icon". Where can I find an example to replace/add the icon using c# disregarding the name the resource use for the icon or if the resource doesn't exist?

Within a form I have multiple fields with the class name .inputField if one of these fields is selected then the div associated with that element should be shown on focus and hidden on blur. However, when I implement the code below on selecting the second element the class is applied to both. • wxpython - Running threads sequentially without blocking GUI

  I've got a GUI script with all my wxPython code in it, and a separate testSequences module that has a bunch of tasks that I run based on input from the GUI. The tasks take a long time to complete (from 20 seconds to 3 minutes), so I want to thread them, otherwise the GUI locks up while they're running. I also need them to run one after another, since they all use the same hardware. (My rationale behind threading is simply to prevent the GUI from locking up.) I'd like to have a "Running" message (with varying number of periods after it, i.e. "Running", "Running.", "Running..", etc.) so the user knows that progress is occurring, even though it isn't visible. I'd like this script to run the test sequences in separate threads, but sequentially, so that the second thread won't be created and run until the first is complete. Since this is kind of the opposite of the purpose of threads, I can't really find any information on how to do this... Any help would be greatly appreciated. • How do I populate an NSMutableArray in one class with another object?

  Hello, I know this is a simple answer, but I can't seem to find the solution. I created an object in its own class and I am trying to populate it with data from another class. For simple data types like NSString, I have no problem, but when trying make an NSMutableArray equal to another NSMutableArray or when I try to populate a NSMutableArray with another objects (like strings), I keep getting exception errors... Here is the object I am trying to populate: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface RSSFeedList : NSObject { NSString *subject; NSMutableArray *rssfeedDetail; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *subject; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *rssfeedDetail; @end This is how I was able to populate the NSString 'subject' in another class: rssFeedList.subject = @"test"; However, if I follow similar convention within that same class with respect to an Array, it throws an exception: rssFeedList.rssfeedDetail = rssItemDetailArray; Where rssItemDetailArray is a NSMutableArray that I have built in the same class. I have also tried to add items (i tried strings for testing) to the NSMutableArray directly like so to no avail: [rssFeedList.rssfeedDetail addObject:@"test"]; Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!!

  Hello, gcc 4.4.1 I am using the read function to read in a wave file. However, when it gets to the read function. Execution seems to stop and freezes. I am wondering if I am doing anything wrong with this. The file size test-short.wave is: 514K. What I am aiming for is to read the file into the memory buffer chunks at a time. • Why does the VS2005 debugger not report "base." values properly? (was "Why is this if statement fail

  I'm working on an existing class that is two steps derived from System.Windows.Forms.Combo box. The class overrides the Text property thus: public override string Text { get { return this.AccessibilityObject.Value; } set { if (base.Text != value) { base.Text = value; } } } The reason given for that "get" is this MS bug: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814346 However, I'm more interested in the fact that the "if" doesn't work. There are times where "base.Text != value" is true and yet pressing F10 steps straight to the closing } of the "set" and the Text property is not changed. I've seen this both by just checking values in the debugger, and putting a conditional breakpoint on that only breaks when the "if" statement's predicate is true. How on earth can "if" go wrong? The class between this and ComboBox doesn't touch the Text property. The bug above shouldn't really be affecting anything - it says it's fixed in VS2005. Is the debugger showing different values than the program itself sees? Update I think I've found what is happening here. The debugger is reporting value incorrectly (including evaluating conditional breakpoints incorrectly). To see this, try the following pair of classes: class MyBase { virtual public string Text { get { return "BaseText"; } } } class MyDerived : MyBase { public override string Text { get { string test = base.Text; return "DerivedText"; } } } Put a breakpoint on the last return statement, then run the code and access that property. In my VS2005, hovering over base.Text gives the value "DerivedText", but the variable test has been correctly set to "BaseText". So, new question: why does the debugger not handle base properly, and how can I get it to?

• NullPointerException on Activity Testint Tutorial

  Hello, I am currently trying the activity testing tutorial (Found here), and have a problem. It seems that whenever I try to call something inside the UIThread, I get a java.lang.NullPointerException. public void testSpinnerUI() { mActivity.runOnUiThread( new Runnable() { public void run() { mSpinner.requestFocus(); } }); } This gives me: Incomplete: java.lang.NullPointerException and nothing else. I have tried this on two different samples now, with the same result. I tried with a try/catch clause around the mSpinner.requestFocus() call, and it seems that mSpinner is null inside the thread. I have set it properly up with the setUp() function found in the same sample, and a quick assertNotNull( mSpinner ) shows me that mSpinner is in fact not null after the setUp() function. What can be the cause of this? EDIT; ok, some more testing has been done. It seems that the application that is being tested resets between each test. This essentially makes me have to reinstantiate all variables between each test. Is this normal?

  I have a universal data type, which is passed by value, but does not maintain the type information. We store only pointers and basic data types(like int, float etc) inside this. Now for the first time, we need to store std::string inside this. So we decided to convert it into std::string* and store it. Then comes the problem of destruction. We don't like to copy the std::string every time. So i am thinking of an approach like this. Say the data type looks like this class Atom { public : enum flags { IS_STRING, IS_EMPTY, HAS_GOT_COPIED, MARKER }; private: void* m_value; std::bitset<MARKER> m_flags; public: ..... Atom( Atom& atm ) { atm.m_flags.set( HAS_GOT_COPIED ); ..... } ..... ~Atom() { if( m_flags.test(IS_STRING) && !m_flags.test(HAS_GOT_COPIED) ) { std::string* val = static_cast<std::string*>(m_value); delete val; } } }; Is this a good approach to find out whether there is no more reference to std::string*? • in haskell, why do I need to specify type constraints, why can't the compiler figure them out?

  Consider the function, add a b = a + b This works: *Main> add 1 2 3 However, if I add a type signature specifying that I want to add things of the same type: add :: a -> a -> a add a b = a + b I get an error: test.hs:3:10: Could not deduce (Num a) from the context () arising from a use of `+' at test.hs:3:10-14 Possible fix: add (Num a) to the context of the type signature for `add' In the expression: a + b In the definition of `add': add a b = a + b So GHC clearly can deduce that I need the Num type constraint, since it just told me: add :: Num a => a -> a -> a add a b = a + b Works. Why does GHC require me to add the type constraint? If I'm doing generic programming, why can't it just work for anything that knows how to use the + operator? In C++ template programming, you can do this easily: #include <string> #include <cstdio> using namespace std; template<typename T> T add(T a, T b) { return a + b; } int main() { printf("%d, %f, %s\n", add(1, 2), add(1.0, 3.4), add(string("foo"), string("bar")).c_str()); return 0; } The compiler figures out the types of the arguments to add and generates a version of the function for that type. There seems to be a fundamental difference in Haskell's approach, can you describe it, and discuss the trade-offs? It seems to me like it would be resolved if GHC simply filled in the type constraint for me, since it obviously decided it was needed. Still, why the type constraint at all? Why not just compile successfully as long as the function is only used in a valid context where the arguments are in Num? Thank you.

• How to remove invalid UTF-8 characters from a JavaScript string?

  I'd like to remove all invalid UTF-8 characters from a string in JavaScript. I've tried using the approach described here (link removed) and came up with the JavaScript: strTest = strTest.replace(/([\x00-\x7F]|[\xC0-\xDF][\x80-\xBF]|[\xE0-\xEF][\x80-\xBF]{2}|[\xF0-\xF7][\x80-\xBF]{3})|./, "$1"); It seems that the UTF-8 validation regex described here (link removed) is more complete and I adapted it in the same way like: strTest = strTest.replace(/([\x09\x0A\x0D\x20-\x7E]|[\xC2-\xDF][\x80-\xBF]|\xE0[\xA0-\xBF][\x80-\xBF]|[\xE1-\xEC\xEE\xEF][\x80-\xBF]{2}|\xED[\x80-\x9F][\x80-\xBF]|\xF0[\x90-\xBF][\x80-\xBF]{2}|[\xF1-\xF3][\x80-\xBF]{3}|\xF4[\x80-\x8F][\x80-\xBF]{2})|./, "$1"); Both of these pieces of code seem to be allowing valid UTF-8 through, but aren't filtering out hardly any of the bad UTF-8 characters from my test data: UTF-8 decoder capability and stress test. Either the bad characters come through unchanged or seem to have some of their bytes removed creating a new, invalid character. I'm not very familiar with the UTF-8 standard or with multibyte in JavaScript so I'm not sure if I'm failing to represent proper UTF-8 in the regex or if I'm applying that regex improperly in JavaScript. • jquery simplemodal close wont work in firefox

• Referencing java resource files for cold fusion

  I am using a .Jar file containing a .properties file in my CF code, however it seems unable to find the .properties file when run from CF. My java code is: String key =""; String value =""; try { File file = new File("src/test.properties"); FileInputStream fileInput = new FileInputStream(file); Properties properties = new Properties(); properties.load(fileInput); fileInput.close(); Enumeration enuKeys = properties.keys(); while (enuKeys.hasMoreElements()) { key = (String) enuKeys.nextElement(); value = properties.getProperty(key); //System.out.println(key + ": " + value); } } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { e.printStackTrace(); key ="error"; } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); key ="error"; } return(key + ": " + value); I have my test.properties file in the project src folder, and make sure it is selected when compiling, when run from eclipse it gives the expected key and value, however when run from CF I get the caught errors. My CF code is simply: propTest = CreateObject("java","package.class"); testResults = propTest.main2(); Is there a special way to reference the .properties file so CF can access it, or do I need to include the file outside the .jar somewhere?
