Someone tried to hack my Node.js server, need to understand a GET request in the logs

Alright, so I left my Node.js server alone for a while and came back to find some really interesting stuff in the logs. Apparently some moron from China or Poland tried to hack my server using directory traversal and what not, while it seems though he did not succeed I am unable understand few entries in the log. How did the hacker even manage to send a GET request to my server such that "http://www.google.com" shows up in the log while my server is simply an API that works on relative URLs such as "/api/login". And, while I looked up the OPTIONS, TRACE and PROPFIND HTTP requests that my server has logged it would be great if someone could explain what exactly was the hacker trying to achieve by using these verbs? Also what in the world does "[90m [32m [90m1ms - 240b[0m" mean? The "ms" makes sense, probably milliseconds for the request, rest I am unable to understand. Thank you!

Bluetooth RFCOMM / SDP connection to a RS232 adapter in android

Hello All, I am trying to use the Bluetooth Chat sample API app that google provides to connect to a bluetooth RS232 adapter hooked up to another device. Here is the app for reference: http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/BluetoothChat/index.html And here is the spec sheet for the RS232 connector just for reference: http://serialio.com/download/Docs/BlueSnap-guide-4.77_Commands.pdf Well the problem is that when I go to connect to the device with: mmSocket.connect(); (BluetoothSocket::connect()) I always get an IOException error thrown by the connect() method. When I do a toString on the exception I get "Service discovery failed". My question is mostly what are the cases that would cause an IOException to get thrown in the connect method? I know those are in the source somewhere but I don't know exactly how the java layer that you write apps in and the C/C++ layer that contains the actual stacks interface. I know that it uses the bluez bluetooth stack which is written in C/C++ but not sure how that ties into the java layer which is what I would think is throwing the exception. Any help on pointing me to where I can try to dissect this issue would be incredible. Also just to note I am able to pair with the RS232 adapter just fine but I am never able to actually connect. The below is merged from a similar question which was successfully resolved by the selected answer here: How can one connect to an rfcomm device other than another phone in Android? The Android API provides examples of using listenUsingRfcommWithServiceRecord() to set up a socket and createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord() to connect to that socket. I'm trying to connect to an embedded device with a BlueSMiRF Gold chip. My working Python code (using the PyBluez library), which I'd like to port to Android, is as follows: sock = bluetooth.BluetoothSocket(proto=bluetooth.RFCOMM) sock.connect((device_addr, 1)) return sock.makefile() ...so the service to connect to is simply defined as channel 1, without any SDP lookup. As the only documented mechanism I see in the Android API does SDP lookup of a UUID, I'm slightly at a loss. Using "sdptool browse" from my Linux host comes up empty, so I surmise that the chip in question simply lacks SDP support.

postMessage to PDF in an iFrame

Here's my situation. I had a webpage with an embedded PDF form. We used a basic object tag (embed in FF) to load the PDF file like this: <object id="pdfForm" height="100%" width="100%" type="application/pdf" data="..url"></object> On this webpage was an Html Save button that would trigger some Javascript which used the postMessage API of the embedded object to execute javascript embedded in the PDF. Basically, that code looked like this: function save() { sendMessage(["submitForm"]); } function sendMessage(aMessage) { pdfObject = document.getElementById("pdfForm"); if (typeof(pdfObject) == "undefined") return; if (typeof (pdfObject.postMessage) == "undefined") return; pdfObject.postMessage(aMessage); } This all was working beautifully. Except we ran into an issue with Firefox so that we need to embed the PDF using iFrame, instead of the object tag. So now, the PDF is embeded using this code: <iframe id="pdfWrapper" src="..someUrl" width="100%" height="800px" frameborder="0"></iframe> Unfortunately, with this code, the javascript for posting a message no longer works, and I can't really figure out how to get access to the pdf object anymore so that I can access the postMessage api. Using fiddler or the chome javascript debugger, it is clear that within the iframe, the browser is automatically generating an embed tag (not an object tag), but that does not let me access the postMessage API. Diagramming Software for a Developer/Designer

For a long time I've been looking for a good diagramming/vector-based drawing program that meets my needs as a developer. I'd like to: Draw database diagrams Draw flow charts Draw object-modeling diagrams (UML being the standard) Draw other free-form diagrams (basically boxes & arrows with the occasional clipart) Draw mockups of user interfaces and web pages EDIT: I want good-looking electronic-format diagrams that I can show to 3rd parties, not just something for my own internal use. EDIT 2: I'm also looking for Windows software, although I'm toying with the idea of switching to Mac, so a really good Mac-only product might get me to switch. Basically I need a good vector graphic program (with decent grouping, connecting lines, and ideally auto-routing). I'd prefer a diagramming tool that can also be used for drawing (for the UI mockups) rather than a drawing tool that can also be used for diagrams. I've tried Visio on several occasions, and every time I've been disappointed. The interface always seems to get in my way at some point. It's pretty close to what I want, and the latest version (I got the trail from MS) seems to be better than previous ones in terms of usability, but I really don't want to plunk down that sort of cash for a mediocre product. I've tried Dia and Inkscape, and while initially promising and with the right price tag, I found both of them to be lacking in several ways (including some recurring bugs). I've toyed with getting Adobe Illustrator, but I've never used it before, and I have a feeling that it wouldn't handle the diagramming aspect very well, and I don't want to buy a copy just to find out it doesn't meet my needs. So far, the product that I've had the most success with is, sadly, OpenOffice Draw. It's free of course (which lowers my expectations and thus improves my view of it) and its usability is pretty good, but in the end I'd like something more suited to diagramming. I'm willing to spend real money (in the $500-$1K range) for a really good piece of software if it does everything I want it to. The front runner is of course Visio but I'm hoping for more. Does anybody have any recommendations? CONCLUSION: @dlamblin had the most informative post, but the part I gained the most from was his/her (and others) mention of OmniGraffle, not Gliffy. I gave Gliffy a try, and it seemed neet for occational use, but since it's a Flash app (note: not AJAX as dlamblin mentioned) it's still a bit of a pain to use (no keyboard shortcuts for copy/paste was pretty much a deal breaker for me). I also tried SmartDraw, but it had 3-strikes-you're-out against it: The trial period was only 7 days long. It used some nonstandard (and visually jarring) GUI widget toolkit for its UI. At the very least it makes me suspicious (how do I know it will actually work & support the standard Windows features?) It crashed on me early into my trial. OmniGraffle looks like exactly what I want... except that it's Mac-only (so I couldn't give it a try). However, it got good reviews from my Mac-owning coworker, and I hope to try it on a friend's Mac soon. If it's good enough then I might spring for a new MacBook.

In our implementation we use technologies like Forms authentication with MembershipProviders and RoleProviders. All went well until I ran into some difficulties with configuring the roles, because the roles aren't system-wide, but related to the customer accounts and projects. I can't name our exact setup/formula, because I think our company wouldn't approve that... What's a customer / project? Our company provides management information for our customers on a yearly (or other interval) basis. In our systems a customer/contract consists of: one Account: information about the Company per Account, one or more Products: the bundle of management information we'll provide per Product, one or more Measurements: a period of time, in which we gather and report the data Extranet site setup Eventually we want all customers to be able to access their management information with our online system. The extranet consists of two sites: Company site: provides an overview of Account information and the Products Measurement site: after selecting a Measurement, detailed information on that period of time The measurement site is the most interesting part of the extranet. We will create submodules for new overviews, reports, managing and maintaining resources that are important for the research. Our Visual Studio solution consists of a number of projects. One web application named Portal for the basis. The sites and modules are virtual directories within that application (makes it easier to share MasterPages among things). What kind of roles? The following users (read: roles) will be using the system: Admins: development users :) (not customer related, full access) Employees: employees of our company (not customer related, full access) Customer SuperUser: top level managers (full access to their account/measurement) Customer ContactPerson: primary contact (full access to their measurement(s)) Customer Manager: a department manager (limited access, specific data of a measurement) What about ASP.Net users? (finally ;)) Roles aren't enough to determine what a user is allowed to see/access/download a specific item. It's not enough to say that a certain navigation item is accessible to Managers. When the user requests Measurement 1000, we have to check that the user not only has a Manager role, but a Manager role for Measurement 1000. Summarized: How can we limit users to their accounts/measurements? (remember superusers see all measurements, some managers only specific measurements) How can we apply roles at a product/measurement level? (user X could be primarycontact for measurement 1, but just a manager for measurement 2) How can we limit manager access to the reports screen and only to their department's reports? All with the magic of asp.net classes, perhaps with a custom roleprovider implementation. surfaceDestroyed called out of turn

I'm currently developing on minimum sdk version 3 (Android 1.5 - cupcake) and I'm having a strange unexplained issue that I have not been able to solve on my own. It is now becoming a rather urgent issue as I've already missed 1 deadline... I'm writing a high-level library to make long term android development easier and quicker. The one specific module has to capture images for a application... I've gotten everything right so far over the last couple months, except this one little thing and I don't know what to do any more: When I use the Camera object and implement a SurfaceHolder.Callback, the methods surfaceCreated() and surfaceChanged() are called one after the other. Then when the activity finishes, surfaceDestroyed() is called. This is how it should be, but when I stick the exact same code in my library (plain Java library that references the Android API - not in an activity), surfaceDestroyed() is called directly after created and changed. As a result - the camera object is closed before I can use it and the application force closes. What a pain. I can't do anything! This method call is controlled by the device.. Why does the surface close for no reason? Even when I post it to run on the activity thread through my own invokeAndWait(Runnable) method, like I do for many other things. I have 5 different working examples of different ways and implementations of capturing images in android but I still get the same issue when I plug it into my library. I don't understand what the difference is. The code is pretty much the same - and I post all the related code to the UI thread so its not a thread handling issue or anything like that. I've rewritten it about 20 times in different ways - same issue every time.. The only other way to approach it that I know of is creating a new Camera and setting it to the VideoView. The android source (c++ native code) however provides no Camera constructor, only an open() method which automatically forwards the camera's state to 'prepared' but I can only set the camera to the VideoView from the 'initialized' state. Pretty silly, I know, but there is no way around it unless I modify the Android library source code haha. not an option! The API does not allow for this method - you are expected to use it like my first example. So essentially - i just need to understand exactly why surfaceDestroyed() is called out of turn and if there is anything I can do to avoid it closing? If i can just understand the exact logic behind it and how it works! The documentation isn't much help! Secondly, if someone knows of any alternative ways to do it, as my second example, but hopefully one which the API actually allows for? haha Thanks guys. I would post code, but its fairly complicated, a couple thousand lines for this specific class and it would probably take a couple days to explain with all the threading and event listeners and what not. How to include the login form on the Home index page in MVC

Hi guys I really need your help for this. I am relatively new to programming and I need help to something that could be easy for a experienced programmer. I would like to get the login form that we get for free in an MVC application on the left sidebar of my Home index page instead of the usual Account/Login page. I am facing some problems. First I need a product object to be displayed on my Home Index page as well. What I did is that I added a product object to the LogOnModel that they provide in the AccountModels class and I created a UserControl (partial view) copying the content of the LogOn.aspx view. Now my Home index.aspx as well as my partial view inherits the LogOnModel class. I can see the Login form on my Home Index page as well as my product object BUT the login Form is never empty. The last username and password always appear there. I know I must have forgotten something or have done something wrong or the way did it is completely wrong !! A ResetBindings on a BindingSource of a Grid also resets ComboBox

Hi there, I have a DataGridView with a BindingSource of products. This products have an enum (Producer). For the most text fields (to edit the product) below the DataGridView I have a method RefreshProduct which does a ResetBindings in the end to refresh the DataGridView. There is a ComboBox (cboProducer), too. If I run over the _orderBs.ResetBindings(false) it will reset my cboProducer outside the DataGridView, too. Could you please help me to avoid this? Advice on Factory Method

Using php 5.2, I'm trying to use a factory to return a service to the controller. My request uri would be of the format www.mydomain.com/service/method/param1/param2/etc. My controller would then call a service factory using the token sent in the uri. From what I've seen, there are two main routes I could go with my factory. Single method: class ServiceFactory { public static function getInstance($token) { switch($token) { case 'location': return new StaticPageTemplateService('location'); break; case 'product': return new DynamicPageTemplateService('product'); break; case 'user' return new UserService(); break; default: return new StaticPageTemplateService($token); } } } or multiple methods: class ServiceFactory { public static function getLocationService() { return new StaticPageTemplateService('location'); } public static function getProductService() { return new DynamicPageTemplateService('product'); } public static function getUserService() { return new UserService(); } public static function getDefaultService($token) { return new StaticPageTemplateService($token); } } So, given this, I will have a handful of generic services in which I will pass that token (for example, StaticPageTemplateService and DynamicPageTemplateService) that will probably implement another factory method just like this to grab templates, domain objects, etc. And some that will be specific services (for example, UserService) which will be 1:1 to that token and not reused. So, this seems to be an ok approach (please give suggestions if it is not) for a small amount of services. But what about when, over time and my site grows, I end up with 100s of possibilities. This no longer seems like a good approach. Am I just way off to begin with or is there another design pattern that would be a better fit? Thanks. UPDATE: @JSprang - the token is actually sent in the uri like mydomain.com/location would want a service specific to loction and mydomain.com/news would want a service specific to news. Now, for a lot of these, the service will be generic. For instance, a lot of pages will call a StaticTemplatePageService in which the token is passed in to the service. That service in turn will grab the "location" template or "links" template and just spit it back out. Some will need DynamicTemplatePageService in which the token gets passed in, like "news" and that service will grab a NewsDomainObject, determine how to present it and spit that back out. Others, like "user" will be specific to a UserService in which it will have methods like Login, Logout, etc. So basically, the token will be used to determine which service is needed AND if it is generic service, that token will be passed to that service. Maybe token isn't the correct terminology but I hope you get the purpose. I wanted to use the factory so I can easily swap out which Service I need in case my needs change. I just worry that after the site grows larger (both pages and functionality) that the factory will become rather bloated. But I'm starting to feel like I just can't get away from storing the mappings in an array (like Stephen's solution). That just doesn't feel OOP to me and I was hoping to find something more elegant.

The goal is to be able to run a simple DAO unit test creating an entity and then load it again with a simple find to check it's been created properly - all of this from my maven build. My dao is making use of the JPA entity manager (query(), persist(), etc.) I've got it working no problem with hsqldb and a datasource, etc. but I'm struggling to get it working with appengine. My questions are: 1) I'm using an entity manager, injecting my persistence unit as followed. Is it OK? Is there any need for a datasource or something special? I thought not but correct me if I'm wrong. applicationContext.xml <bean id='entityManagerFactory' class='org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean'> <property name="persistenceUnitName" value="transactions-optional" /> </bean> Persistence.xml <persistence-unit name="transactions-optional"> <provider>org.datanucleus.store.appengine.jpa.DatastorePersistenceProvider</provider> <properties> <property name="datanucleus.NontransactionalRead" value="true"/> <property name="datanucleus.NontransactionalWrite" value="true"/> <property name="datanucleus.ConnectionURL" value="appengine"/> </properties> </persistence-unit> 2) what are the dependencies I need to add to my pom file to be able to run the unit test making use of the entityManager? What about versions ? I found loads of things about appengine-api-labs/stubs/testing but none them got it working i.e. I'm getting jdo dependency missing while I'm using JPA... I also get loads of conflicts when I try to add some jars (datanucleus and stuff). So far I'm trying appengine-api-1.0-sdk v1.7.0 - ASM-all v3.3 - datanucleus core/api-jpa/enhancer v3.1.0 - datanucleus-appengine v2.0.1.1 and all the gae testing jars v1.7.0 3) Is there anything I need to add to my surefire plugin (test runner) to make sure it picks up all the dependencies? I'm getting an exhausting ClassNotFound on DatastorePersistenceProvider while it is in my classpath (I checked the jars and the mvn dependency:tree) I had a look at this but it doesn't seem to be working at all: http://www.vertigrated.com/blog/2011/02/working-maven-3-google-app-engine-plugin-with-gwt-support/ 4) Do I need to use any sot of localhelper to test my DAOs? Infinite sharing system (PHP/MySQLi)

I'm working on a discount system for whichever customer shares a product and brings in new customers. Each unique visit = $0.05 off, each new customer = $0.50 off (it's a cheap product so yeah, no big numbers). When a new customer shares the site, the customer initially responsible for the new customer (if any) will get half of the new customer's discount as well. The initial customer would get a fourth for the next level and the new customer half of that, etc, creating a tree or pyramid that way that could be infinite. Initial customer ($1.35 discount: 2 new+3 visits + half of 1 new+2 visits) Visitor ($0) Visitor ($0) New customer ($0.60) Visitor ($0) Visitor ($0) Newer customer ($0) New customer ($0) Visitor ($0) The customers are saved along with their IP addresses (bin2hex(inet_pton)) in a database table (customers) with info like a unique id, e-mail address and first date/time the purchased a product (= time of registration). The shares are saved in a separate table within the same database (sharing). Each unique IP addresses that visits the site creates a new row featuring the IP address (also saved as bin2hex(inet_pton)), the id of the customer who shared it and the date/time of the visit. Sharing goes via URL, featuring a GET element containing the customer's id. Visits and new customers overlap, as visits will always occur before the new customer does. That's fine. The date/times are used just to make it a little more secure (I also use the IP along with cookies to see if people cheat the system). If an IP is already in the sharing or customer tables, it does not count and will not create a new entry. Now the problem is, how to make the infinity happen and apply the different values to it? That's all I'd need to know. It needs to calculate the discount for each customer separately, but also allow for monitoring altogether (though that's just a matter of passing all ID's through it). I figured I'd start (after the database connection) with $stmt = $con->prepare('SELECT ip,datetime FROM sharing WHERE sender=?'); $stmt->bind_param('i',$customerid); $stmt->execute(); $stmt->store_result(); $discount = $discount + ($stmt->num_rows * 0.05); $stmt->bind_result($ip,$timeofsharing); to translate all the visits to $0.05 of discount each. To check for the new customers that came from these visits, I wrote the following: while ($sql->fetch()) { $stmt2 = $con->prepare("SELECT datetime FROM users WHERE ip=?"); $stmt2->bind_param('s',$ip); $stmt2->execute(); $stmt2->store_result(); $stmt2->bind_result($timeofpurchase); Followed by a little more security comparing the datetimes: while ($stmt2->fetch()) { if (strtotime($timeofpurchase) < strtotime($timeofsharing)) { $discount = $discount + $0.50; } But this is just for the initial customer's direct results. If I'd want to check for the next level, I'd basically have to put the exact same check and loop in itself, checking each new customer the initial customer they brought to the site, and then for the next level again to check all of the newer customers, etc, etc. What to do? / Where to go? / What would be the correct practice for this? Reordering Variadic Parameters

I have come across the need to reorder a variadic list of parameters that is supplied to the constructor of a struct. After being reordered based on their types, the parameters will be stored as a tuple. My question is how this can be done so that a modern C++ compiler (e.g. g++-4.7) will not generate unnecessary load or store instructions. That is, when the constructor is invoked with a list of parameters of variable size, it efficiently pushes each parameter into place based on an ordering over the parameters' types. Here is a concrete example. Assume that the base type of every parameter (without references, rvalue references, pointers, or qualifiers) is either char, int, or float. How can I make it so that all the parameters of base type char appear first, followed by all of those of base type int (which leaves the parameters of base type float last). The relative order in which the parameters were given should not be violated within sublists of homogeneous base type. Example: foo::foo() is called with arguments float a, char&& b, const float& c, int&& d, char e. The tuple tupe is std::tuple<char, char, int, float, float>, and it is constructed like so: tuple_type{std::move(b), e, std::move(d), a, c}. Consider the struct defined below, and assume that the metafunction deduce_reordered_tuple_type is already implemented. How would you write the constructor so that it works as intended? If you think that the code for deduce_reodered_tuple_type, would be useful to you, I can provide it; it's a little long. template <class... Args> struct foo { // Assume that the metafunction deduce_reordered_tuple_type is defined. typedef typename deduce_reordered_tuple_type<Args...>::type tuple_type; tuple_type t_; foo(Args&&... args) : t_{reorder_and_forward_parameters<Args>(args)...} {} }; Edit 1 The technique I describe above does have applications in mathematical frameworks that make heavy use of expression templates, variadic templates, and metaprogramming in order to perform aggressive inlining. Suppose that you wish to define an operator that takes the product of several expressions, each of which may be passed by reference, reference to const, or rvalue reference. (In my case, the expressions are conditional probability tables and the operation is the factor product, but something like matrix multiplication works suitably as well.) You need access to the data provided by each expression in order to evaluate the product. Consequently, you must move the expressions passed as rvalue references, copy the expressions passed by reference to const, and take the addresses of expressions passed by reference. Using the technique I describe above now poses several benefits. Other expressions can use uniform syntax to access data elements from this expression, since all of the heavy-lifting metaprogramming work is done beforehand, within the class. We can save stack space by grouping the pointers together and storing the larger expressions towards the end of the tuple. Implementing certain types of queries becomes much easier (e.g. check whether any of the pointers stored in the tuple aliases a given pointer). Thank you very much for your help!

ASP.NET MVC Paging/Sorting/Filtering a list using ModelMetadata

This post looks at how to control paging, sorting and filtering when displaying a list of data by specifying attributes in your Model using the ASP.NET MVC framework and the excellent MVCContrib library. It also shows how to hide/show columns and control the formatting of data using attributes. This uses the Northwind database. A sample project is attached at the end of this post. Let’s start by looking at a class called ProductViewModel. The properties in the class are decorated with attributes. The OrderBy attribute tells the system that the Model can be sorted using that property. The SearchFilter attribute tells the system that filtering is allowed on that property. Filtering type is set by the FilterType enum which currently supports Equals and Contains. The ScaffoldColumn property specifies if a column is hidden or not The DisplayFormat specifies how the data is formatted. public class ProductViewModel { [OrderBy(IsDefault = true)] [ScaffoldColumn(false)] public int? SupplierID { get; set; } [OrderBy] public bool Discontinued { get; set; } } Before we explore the code further, lets look at the UI. The UI has a section for filtering the data. The column headers with links are sortable. Paging is also supported with the help of a pager row. The pager is rendered using the MVCContrib Pager component. The data is displayed using a customized version of the MVCContrib Grid component. The customization was done in order for the Grid to be aware of the attributes mentioned above. Now, let’s look at what happens when we perform actions on this page. The diagram below shows the process: The form on the page has its method set to “GET” therefore we see all the parameters in the query string. The query string is shown in blue above. This query gets routed to an action called Index with parameters of type ProductViewModel and PageSortOptions. The parameters in the query string get mapped to the input parameters using model binding. The ProductView object created has the information needed to filter data while the PageAndSorting object is used for paging and sorting the data. The last block in the figure above shows how the filtered and paged list is created. We receive a product list from our product repository (which is of type IQueryable) and first filter it by calliing the AsFiltered extension method passing in the productFilters object and then call the AsPagination extension method passing in the pageSort object. The AsFiltered extension method looks at the type of the filter instance passed in. It skips properties in the instance that do not have the SearchFilter attribute. For properties that have the SearchFilter attribute, it adds filter expression trees to filter against the IQueryable data. The AsPagination extension method looks at the type of the IQueryable and ensures that the column being sorted on has the OrderBy attribute. If it does not find one, it looks for the default sort field [OrderBy(IsDefault = true)]. It is required that at least one attribute in your model has the [OrderBy(IsDefault = true)]. This because a person could be performing paging without specifying an order by column. As you may recall the LINQ Skip method now requires that you call an OrderBy method before it. Therefore we need a default order by column to perform paging. The extension method adds a order expressoin tree to the IQueryable and calls the MVCContrib AsPagination extension method to page the data. Implementation Notes Auto Postback The search filter region auto performs a get request anytime the dropdown selection is changed. This is implemented using the following jQuery snippet $(document).ready(function () { $("#productSearch").change(function () { this.submit(); }); }); Strongly Typed View The code used in the Action method is shown below: public ActionResult Index(ProductViewModel productFilters, PageSortOptions pageSortOptions) { var productPagedList = productRepository.GetProductsProjected().AsFiltered(productFilters).AsPagination(pageSortOptions); var productViewFilterContainer = new ProductViewFilterContainer(); productViewFilterContainer.Fill(productFilters.CategoryID, productFilters.SupplierID, productFilters.ProductName); var gridSortOptions = new GridSortOptions { Column = pageSortOptions.Column, Direction = pageSortOptions.Direction }; var productListContainer = new ProductListContainerModel { ProductPagedList = productPagedList, ProductViewFilterContainer = productViewFilterContainer, GridSortOptions = gridSortOptions }; return View(productListContainer); } As you see above, the object that is returned to the view is of type ProductListContainerModel. This contains all the information need for the view to render the Search filter section (including dropdowns), the Html.Pager (MVCContrib) and the Html.Grid (from MVCContrib). It also stores the state of the search filters so that they can recreate themselves when the page reloads (Viewstate, I miss you! :0) The class diagram for the container class is shown below. Custom MVCContrib Grid The MVCContrib grid default behavior was overridden so that it would auto generate the columns and format the columns based on the metadata and also make it aware of our custom attributes (see MetaDataGridModel in the sample code). The Grid ensures that the ShowForDisplay on the column is set to true This can also be set by the ScaffoldColumn attribute ref: http://bradwilson.typepad.com/blog/2009/10/aspnet-mvc-2-templates-part-2-modelmetadata.html) Column headers are set using the DisplayName attribute Column sorting is set using the OrderBy attribute. The data is formatted using the DisplayFormat attribute. Generic Extension methods for Sorting and Filtering The extension method AsFiltered takes in an IQueryable<T> and uses expression trees to query against the IQueryable data. The query is constructed using the Model metadata and the properties of the T filter (productFilters in our case). Properties in the Model that do not have the SearchFilter attribute are skipped when creating the filter expression tree. It returns an IQueryable<T>. The extension method AsPagination takes in an IQuerable<T> and first ensures that the column being sorted on has the OrderBy attribute. If not, we look for the default OrderBy column ([OrderBy(IsDefault = true)]). We then build an expression tree to sort on this column. We finally hand off the call to the MVCContrib AsPagination which returns an IPagination<T>. This type as you can see in the class diagram above is passed to the view and used by the MVCContrib Grid and Pager components. Migrating JSF 1.2 to 2.x resulted in java.lang.NullPointerException at com.sun.faces.config.InitFacesContext.cleanupInitMaps

I'm in process of migrating a JSF 1.2 application to JSF 2.x. My application is using the following APIs: maven-jetty-plugin (version 6.1.10) maven-compiler-plugin (version 2.3.1) myfaces-api & -impl (version 1.2.7) jsf-facelets (version 1.1.14) richfaces (version 3.3.3) javax servlet jstl (version 1.2) javax servlet-api (version 2.5) and some other plugins as well. I updated the versions in faces-config.xml file and removed Facelets 1.1.14 libs and replaced MyFaces 1.2 by JSF 2.x libs, however the application didn't work.
