• feedparser fails during script run, but can't reproduce in interactive python console

  It's failing with this when I run eclipse or when I run my script in iPython: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xe2 in position 32: ordinal not in range(128) I don't know why, but when I simply execute the feedparse.parse(url) statement using the same url, there is no error thrown. This is stumping me big time. • ExtJS combo setting problem

  Hi I run into an interesting problem while was using combos in input form. My form contains combos that get data from json stores. It works fine when adding new record, but when the form is opened for editing an existing record, sometimes the id appears as selected not its value (eg: there's 5 instead of "apple"). I think it tries to set the value before it finishes loading the combo. Is there a way to solve this?   Consider this table on SQL Server wordID aliasID value =========================== 0 0 'cat' 1 0 'dog' 2 0 'argh' 2 1 'ugh' WordID is a id of a word which possibly has aliases. AliasID determines a specific alias to a word. So above 'argh' and 'ugh' are aliases to each other. I'd like to be able to insert new words which do not have any aliases in the table without having to query the table for a free wordID value first. Inserting value 'hey' without specifying a wordID or an aliasID, a row looking like this would be created: wordID aliasID value =========================== 3 0 'hey' Is this possible and how?

• jQuery Ajax / .each callback, next 'each' firing before ajax completed

  Hi the below Javascript is called when I submit a form. In other words, without adding x:Class to the top of Generic.xaml and thus creating a code-behind file for it, which I assume you wouldn't want to do, how do you handle events for elements in your xaml that don't have a Command property (which is just about everything other than a Button)? Should LooklessControl have it's own XAML file (much like what you get when you create a new UserControl) associated with it that Generic.xaml just pulls in as a MergedDictionar as its default template? Or is there some other acknowledged way to do what I'm trying to do?

• PHP & MySQL - Deleting table rows problem.

  Okay my script is supposed to delete a specific users case which is stored in 2 MySQL tables but for some reason when the user deletes the specific case it deletes all the users cases I only want it to delete the case the user selects. I was wondering how can I fix this problem? Thanks in advance for helping.   Hello I am getting a weird error when trying to use a Java map in Scala. When adding one more byte 0x18 to the array, the exception raised: InvalidKeyException: Key length not 128/192/256 bits. But the original 18 bytes (from 0 to 17) are not multiple of nither 128, 192 or 256. I would like to understand the math here.. can anyone explain me? Thanks!

• How do you create a non-Thread-based Guice custom Scope?

  It seems that all Guice's out-of-the-box Scope implementations are inherently Thread-based (or ignore Threads entirely): Scopes.SINGLETON and Scopes.NO_SCOPE ignore Threads and are the edge cases: global scope and no scope. ServletScopes.REQUEST and ServletScopes.SESSION ultimately depend on retrieving scoped objects from a ThreadLocal<Context>. The retrieved Context holds a reference to the HttpServletRequest that holds a reference to the scoped objects stored as named attributes (where name is derived from com.google.inject.Key). Class SimpleScope from the custom scope Guice wiki also provides a per-Thread implementation using a ThreadLocal<Map<Key<?>, Object>> member variable. With that preamble, my question is this: how does one go about creating a non-Thread-based Scope? It seems that something that I can use to look up a Map<Key<?>, Object> is missing, as the only things passed in to Scope.scope() are a Key<T> and a Provider<T>. Thanks in advance for your time.

An example test script is below: class TestThis(unittest.TestCase): def runTest(self): assertEqual('1', '1') class TestThisTestSuite(unittest.TestSuite): # Tests to be tested by test suite def makeTestThisTestSuite(): suite = unittest.TestSuite() suite.addTest("TestThis") return suite def suite(): return unittest.makeSuite(TestThis) if __name__ == '__main__': unittest.main() So from the class suite() I would like to enter in a value to change the value that is in assert value. Eg. assertEqual(self.value, '1'). I have tried sys.argv for unittest and it doesn't seem to work. Thanks for any help.

  What options are there for localizing an app on Google App Engine? How do you do it using Webapp, Django, web2py or [insert framework here]. 1. Readable URLs and entity key names Readable URLs are good for usability and search engine optimization (Stack Overflow is a good example on how to do it). On Google App Engine, key based queries are recommended for performance reasons. It follows that it is good practice to use the entity key name in the URL, so that the entity can be fetched from the datastore as quickly as possible. • c#: IsNullableType helper class ?

  Hi there, Can anyone help? I have some code that is shared between 2 projects. The code points to a model which basically is a collection of properties that comes from a db. Problem being is that some properties use nullable types in 1 model and the other it doesn't Really the dbs should use the same but they don't .. so for example there is a property called IsAvailble which uses "bool" in one model and the other it uses bool? (nullable type) so in my code i do the following objContract.IsAvailble.Value ? "Yes" : "No" //notice the property .VALUE as its a bool? (nullable type) but this line will fail on model that uses a standard "bool" (not nullable) as there is no property .VALUE on types that are NOT nullable Is there some kind of helper class that i check if the property is a nullable type and i can return .Value .. otherwise i just return the property. Anybody have a solution for this?

Could someone explain me why : If I have in an ObservableCollection, twice (or more time) an item with the same value, then the selections of those values in the ListBox won't work properly ? In fact, what the ListBox is doing when I click on an item(Even in single item selection) : It selects the first item from the ObservableCollection collection with a matching value. so in the case if multiple items with same value are in the collection, then only the first one will be selected !

One of the jobs was to implement url rewriting, which i've done, but for some reason the URL rewriting has killed the ability to play flv files through FLVPlayer_Progressive. An example can be seen below: Working if you then follow the link on the menu and go to Campaigns It's a Living Thing you can see how it's not working when the url is being re-written. • Reading component parameters and setting defaults

  I'm pulling my hair on this because it should be simple, but can't get it to do the right thing. What's the best practice way of doing the following I've created a custom component that extends <s:Label> so now the Label has additional properties color2 color3 value which can be called like this and are used in the skin. <s:CustomLabel text="Some text" color2="0x939202" color3="0x999999" value="4.5" /> If I don't supply these parameters, I'd like some defaults to be set. So far I've had some success, but it doesn't work 100% of the time, which leads me to think that I'm not following best practices when setting those defaults. I do it now like this: [Bindable] private var myColor2:uint = 0x000000; [Bindable] private var myColor3:uint = 0x000000; [Bindable] private var myValue:Number = 10.0; then in the init function, I do a variation of this to set the default myValue = hostComponent.value; myValue = (hostComponent.value) ? hostComponent.value : 4.5; Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, depending on the type of variable I'm trying to set. I eventually decided to read them as Strings then convert them to the desired type, but it seems that this also works half the time.

• Correctly use dependency injection

  Me and two other colleagues are trying to understand how to best design a program. For example, I have an interface ISoda and multiple classes that implement that interface like Coke, Pepsi, DrPepper, etc.... My colleague is saying that it's best to put these items into a database like a key/value pair. For example: Key | Name -------------------------------------- Coke | my.namespace.Coke, MyAssembly Pepsi | my.namespace.Pepsi, MyAssembly DrPepper | my.namespace.DrPepper, MyAssembly ... then have XML configuration files that map the input to the correct key, query the database for the key, then create the object. I don't have any specific reasons, but I just feel that this is a bad design, but I don't know what to say or how to correctly argue against it. My second colleague is suggesting that we micro-manage each of these classes. So basically the input would go through a switch statement, something similiar to this: ISoda soda; switch (input) { case "Coke": soda = new Coke(); break; case "Pepsi": soda = new Pepsi(); break; case "DrPepper": soda = new DrPepper(); break; } This seems a little better to me, but I still think there is a better way to do it. I've been reading up on IoC containers the last few days and it seems like a good solution. However, I'm still very new to dependency injection and IoC containers, so I don't know how to correctly argue for it. Or maybe I'm the wrong one and there's a better way to do it? If so, can someone suggest a better method? What kind of arguments can I bring to the table to convince my colleagues to try another method? What are the pros/cons? Why should we do it one way? Unfortunately, my colleagues are very resistant to change so I'm trying to figure out how I can convince them.

• ProgressBar not updating on change to Maximum through binding

The style came from http://mattserbinski.com/blog/look-and-feel-progressbar and the DebuggingConverter is a no-op converter that prints the value, type and parameter to the Console. I have verified that the converter for the Maximum is being called when my NumTubes property is changed. Basically, the ProgressBar won't redraw until the Value changes. So, if I have 2 tubes and 1 is failed, even if I add 20 more tubes, the bar is still half filled until the NumFailed changes, then the proportion is updated. I've tried adding spurious notifications of the NumFailed property, but that apparently doesn't work since the value didn't change. Ideas?

• How can I prompt for input using Selenium/Webdriver and use the result?

Is there any way of showing an input box to the user, and use the value typed there? • Automate the signature of the update.rdf manifest for my firefox extension

  Hello, I'm developing a firefox extension and I'd like to provide automatic update to my beta-testers (who are not tech-savvy). Unfortunately, the update server doesn't provide HTTPS. According to the Extension Developer Guide on signing updates, I have to sign my update.rdf and provide an encoded public key in the install.rdf. There is the McCoy tool to do all of this, but it is an interactive GUI tool and I'd like to automate the extension packaging using an Ant script (as this is part of a much bigger process). I can't find a more precise description of what's happening to sign the update.rdf manifest than below, and McCoy source is an awful lot of javascript. The doc says: The add-on author creates a public/private RSA cryptographic key pair. The public part of the key is DER encoded and then base 64 encoded and added to the add-on's install.rdf as an updateKey entry. (...) Roughly speaking the update information is converted to a string, then hashed using a sha512 hashing algorithm and this hash is signed using the private key. The resultant data is DER encoded then base 64 encoded for inclusion in the update.rdf as an signature entry. I don't know well about DER encoding, but it seems like it needs some parameters. So would anyone know either the full algortihm to sign the update.rdf and install.rdf using a predefined keypair, or a scriptable alternative to McCoy whether a command-line tool like asn1coding will suffise a good/simple developer tutorial on DER encoding
