• CUPS basic auth error through web interface

  I'm trying to configure CUPS to allow remote administration through the web interface. There's enough documentation out there that I can figure out what to change in my cupsd.conf (changing Listen localhost:631 to Port 631, and adding Allow @LOCAL to the /, /admin and /admin/conf sections). I'm now at the point where I can see the CUPS interface from another machine on the same network. The trouble is, when I try to Add Printer, I'm asked for a username and password, but my response is rejected even when I know I've gotten it right (I assume it's asking for the username and password of someone in the lpadmin group on the server machine; I've sshed in with credentials its rejecting, and the user I'm using has been added to the lpadmin group). If I disable auth outright, by changing DefaultAuthType Basic to DefaultAuthType None, I get an "Unauthorized" error instead of a password request when I try to Add Printer. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way of letting users from the local network to administer the print server through the CUPS web interface? • Getting rid of Plesk on a VPS

  I've been using a relatively expensive VPS for hosting about 30 domains and I want to migrate to a cheaper one, without Plesk. Both use CentOS. My users will not care, they don't use Plesk anyway. But I will not be able to use it for creating new virtual hosts, FTP accounts etc. I'm not a commandline guru, esp. not in a server environment. Is there a free Plesk alternative for these purposes? I need to: Create a new virtual host with it's own FTP account Setup some basic FTP quota I don't need: DNS management (the new VPS service has an external DNS management GUI) Mail server management (I use Google Apps) Any suggestions welcome, from Plesk alternatives to "RTFM" or links to tutorials.

• Is ODBC on Windows 2003 slower than on Windows 7?

  I am seeing some MSSQL 2005 performance issues, and I am trying to diagnose the cause. I am using SQL profiler to gather query execution times. Both the client (using ODBC), and the SQL server are running on Windows 2003. I am also using Windows 7 (client) with a different Windows 2003 server to compare results. Windows 7 client / Windows 2003 server: SQL management studio: 393ms Through ODBC: 215ms Windows 2003 client: SQL management studio: approx 155ms Through ODBC: 3145ms ... in both cases, I'm running SQL management studio on the client. To me, these figures suggest there's something wrong with the ODBC client on the Windows 2003 server. On Windows, I see that the ODBC "SQL Server" driver is version 6.01.7600.16385 but on Windows 2003, it is 2000.86.3959.00 (by default). Could this be the problem? Is it possible to update an ODBC driver?

• SharePoint 2010 - Access denied during ApplyWebConfigModifications()

  I have SharePoint 2010 installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine which is also hosting SQL Sever 2008 R2. I am attempting to deploy a solution that includes web parts in the 2010 environment that is working fine in MOSS 2007. The Web Part feature has a feature receiver that updates the web.config. When I try to activate the feature through the Site Collection Feature GUI, I receive an access denied message. I am logged on to the server and in SharePoint with the APP Pool account which is also a member of the domain administrator group, local administrator group and SharePoint Farm Admin group. This account is also dbo on SQL Server. This same feature activates fine using the stsadm command. I have dug into this issue at length and here is what I have found: Looking at the Microsoft assemblies in reflector, my error is coming from the SPWebApplication.ApplyWebConfigModifications() method. I can see the trace statements from SPWebConfigFileChanges.RemoveModificationsWebConfigXMLDocument and SPWebConfigFileChanges.ApplyModificationsWebConfigXMLDocument. The next line is a Save(str). I wanted to specify field size (one field is a square) as a attached property and with this data set value of ViewPort which would draw 2x2 matrix (and tile mode would do the rest of game desk). I'm quite at loss what is wrong because the binding doesn't work. • mexTcpBinding in WCF - IMetadataExchange errors

  I'm wanting to get a WCF-over-TCP service working. I was having some problems with modifying my own project, so I thought I'd start with the "base" WCF template included in VS2008. I get the feeling that you can't send metadata using TCP, but that's the case why is there a mexTcpBinding option?

• ELMAH - Filtering 404 Errors

  I am attempting to configure ELMAH to filter 404 errors and I am running into difficulties with the XML-provided filter rules in my Web.config file. I followed the tutorial here and here and added an <is-type binding="BaseException" type="System.IO.FileNotFoundException" /> declaration under my <test><or>... declaration, but that completely failed. When I tested it locally I stuck a breakpoint in protected void ErrorLog_Filtering() {} of the Global.asax found that the System.Web.HttpException that gets fired by ASP.NET for a 404 doesn't have a base type of System.IO.FileNotFound, but rather it is simply a System.Web.HttpException. Next I decided to try a <regex binding="BaseException.Message" pattern="The file '/[^']+' does not exist" /> in the hopes that any exception matching the pattern "The file '/foo.ext' does not exist" would get filtered, but that too having no effect. As a last resort I tried <is-type binding="BaseException" type="System.Exception" />, and even that is entirely disregarded. I'm inclined to think there's a configuration error with ELMAH, but I fail to see any. Am I missing something blatantly obvious? • JpegBitmapEncoder.Save() throws exception when writing image with metadata to MemoryStream

  I am trying to set up metadata on JPG image what does not have it. You can't use in-place writer (InPlaceBitmapMetadataWriter) in this case, cuz there is no place for metadata in image. If I use FileStream as output - everything works fine. But if I try to use MemoryStream as output - JpegBitmapEncoder.Save() throws an exception (Exception from HRESULT: 0xC0000005). After some investigation I also found out what encoder can save image to memory stream if I supply null instead of metadata. • non-static variable cannot be referenced from a static context (java)

  I ask that you ignore all logic.. i was taught poorly at first and so i still dont understand everything about static crap and its killing me. My error is with every single variable that i declare then try to use later inside my methods... i get the non-static variable cannot~~ error I can simply put all the rough coding of my methods inside my cases, and it works but then i cannot use recursion... • handle null values for string when implementing IXmlSerializable interface

  I have the following class that implements IXmlSerializable. When implementing WriteXml(), I need to handle the case where the string members of this class may be null values. What is the best way of handling this? Currently, I am using the default constructor in which all the string properties are initialized to empty string values. This way, when WriteXml() is called, the string will not be null. One other way I could do this is check using String.IsNullOrEmpty before writing each string in xml.   Hi guys, As a part of learning WCF, I was trying to use a simple WCF client-server code . http://weblogs.asp.net/ralfw/archive/2007/04/14/a-truely-simple-example-to-get-started-with-wcf.aspx but I'm facing strange issues.I was trying out the following. Client(My) IP address is : 192.168.2.5 (internal behind firewall) Server IP address is : 192.168.50.30 port : 9050 (internal behind firewall) Servers LIVE/External IP (on internet ) : 121.225.xx.xx (accessible from internet) When I specify the above I.P address of server(192.168.50.30), the client connects successfully and can call servers methods. Now suppose if I want to give my friend (outside network/on internet) the client with server's live I.P, i get an ENDPOINTNOTFOUND exceptions. Surprisingly if I run the above client specifying LIVE IP(121.225.xx.xx) of server i also get the same exception. I tried to debug the problem but haven't found anything. Is it a problem with the company firewall not forwarding my request? or is it a problem with the server or client . Is something needed to be added to the server/client to overcome the same problem? Or are there any settings on the firewall that need to be changed like port forwarding? (our network admin has configured the port to be accessible from the internet.) is it a authentication issue? • How can I read the verbose output from a Cmdlet in C# using Exchange Powershell

  Environment: Exchange 2007 sp3 (2003 sp2 mixed mode) Visual Studio 2008, .Net 3.5 Hello, I'm working with an Exchange powershell move-mailbox cmdlet and have noted when I do so from the Exchange Management shell (using the Verbose switch) there is a ton of real-time information provided. To provide a little context, I'm attempting to create a UI application that moves mailboxes similarly to the Exchange Management Console but desire to support an input file and specific server/database destinations for each entry (and threading). Here's roughly what I have at present but I'm not sure if there is an event I need to register for or what... And to be clear, I desire to get this information in real-time so I may update my UI to reflect what's occurring in the move sequence for the appropriate user (pretty much like the native functionality offered in the Management Console). And in case you are wondering, the reason why I'm not content with the Management Console functionality is, I have an algorithm which I'm using to balance users depending on storage limit, Blackberry use, journaling, exception mailbox size etc which demands user be mapped to specific locations... and I do not desire to create many/several move groups for each common destination or to hunt for lists of users individually through the management console UI. I can not seem to find any good documentation or examples of how to tie into reading the verbose messages that are provided within the console using C# (I see value in being able to read this kind of information in many different scenarios). I've explored the Invoke and InvokeAsync methods and the StateChanged & DataReady events but none of these seem to provide the information (verbose comments) that I'm after. Any direction or examples that can be provided will be very appreciated! I still get the error if I explicitly set the value in the style's setter to 0, say. And the error vanishes if I remove the style, though then all of the items end up in column 0. What's going on here? And how do I debug a problem like this?

• Navigation to call action for bean class

  I am using JSF 2.0 and PrimeFaces 3.0. I have uploaded the images and have to crop the image. The images are uploaded and successfully displayed in the upload pages. When I select the images and click the crop button the corresponding crop bean is not called. If I don't select the image and click the crop button the corresponding crop bean class is called but a NullPointerException occurred. What is the problem?
