  • Custom prerequsites to visual studio setup project

    I have a Visual Studio Setup project and have followed the steps mentioned in this link to load the Shared Add-in Support Update for the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (KB908002) to the prerequisites list. The entry appears but there is this following warning shown No 'HomeSite' attribute has been provided for 'Shared Add-in Support Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (KB908002)', so the package will be published to the same location as the bootstrapper. I use the Download component from the component vendor's website option. How do I set a homesite for this update so that the update is directly downloaded and installed. I do not want to distribute the update along with my setup. Thanks

  • Why I get errors when I try to out a compiler defined macro using a pragma message?

    I would like to know why the Visual C++ compiler gets me an warning/error if I use the following code: #pragma message( "You have " _MSC_FULL_VER ) Here is what I get: error C2220: warning treated as error - no 'object' file generated warning C4081: expected ':'; found ')' The problem reproduces for _MSC_FULL_VER or _MSV_VER but not if I try to use others like __FILE__ or __DATE__. These macros are defined, they are documented on msdn

  • Has anyone gotten VB highlighting to work in Emacs23?

    I have found and installed the visual basic mode for emacs. It seems to be loading on emacs startup and the VB mode loads when I open a *.bas file. The code is not highlighted at all, however. I'm using Emacs23, tried it with 21 and saw no difference. Background for the curious: I am rewriting a set of codes from VB to Python. The syntax highlighting will make it much easier for me to see what's going on.

    Visual Studio 2010 has official Extensions for SharePoint 2010, which also includes MSBUILD .targets. I'm setting up a Continuous Integration Server at the moment, and msbuild can't compile my SharePoint projects as these targets are missing. Before I start manually identifying and copying over the SP stuff, I wonder if there is a standalone version so that I don't have to install VS2010 on my CI Server?

  • Enable debugging in Design mode in VS

    Is there any way to enable debugging from within the Windows Forms Designer in Visual Studio (any version, up to and including 2010)? What I mean is, say I have some custom user control, and this control has certain validation that it performs when I set a particular property. I'd like to be able to set a breakpoint somewhere within that code, and step through it to see what happens when I set the property from the designer.

    Hi! I've done my TreeView all with XAML but now I'd like to manage an event with code-behind. The HierarchicalDataTemplate contains an Image. I need to capture the events MouseEnter / MouseLeave on the Image. I've tried in this way: <Image x:Name="imgArticolo" Source="{Binding imgArt}"> <Image.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Image}"> <EventSetter Event="MouseEnter" Handler="iArt_MouseEnter"/> </Style> </Image.Style> </Image> But in the designer of Visual Studio appear the error: "Impossible to load a file XAML with EventSetter".   • Can't see how to compile a header file with /clr switch in a mixed class

    When creating a mixed mode class, on compilation the header file complains that it needs to be complied with the /clr switch as it is a mixed mode class, however, I can't see any option to specifically compile that header with /clr from visual studio, and I don't want to set the entire project with a /clr flag, Does anyone know how I can specify that this header file is compiled correctly with /clr?     (Can't believe this hasn't already been asked, but I can't find a dup) In Visual Studio with lots of projects, when I first open the solution, I sometimes get the warning Object of type "X" cannot be converted to object of type "X". Generally rebuilding seems to make it go away, but does anyone know what this is caused by, and how to avoid it? UPDATE I read somewhere that deleting all your resx files and rebuilding can help. I unthinkingly tried this. Not a good idea...

  • Xap file contents changes if built in Visual Studio or build server

    I'm using MEF with my Silverlight 4 app to dynamically load xap files. To optimize this process, I've removed various assemblies from my xaps since I know they've already been loaded by the base xap. This reduces the size of my dynamically loaded xaps. I accomplished this by setting the "Copy Local" flag for each assembly reference to "false". This all seems to work fine when I build in Visual Studio 2010 - my xaps are much smaller. However, when the same projects are built by the build server, all the excluded references are once again in the xap file hence tripling the size of the xap. I've read several blogs/articles regarding similar experiences but no resolution. Very frustrating - any help is appreciated.

  • Is there a way to sort by more than one field in Crystal Reports?

    I'm using Crystal Report with VB.NET in Visual Studio 2005. I have report that works if I pass in a list of List(Of Stuff). I had been sorting the report by one of the members of Stuff but a need now to sort first by one member, like Stuff.StatusCode and then by another member, like Stuff.ItemNumber. Can I do this just be having more than one SortField member, or do I need to do it some other way? Thanks as always!

    I am currently troubleshooting a large and unwieldy GUI-based tool in Visual Studio, and was wondering whether there is any way to get some kind of notification (either by writing to the console or through a third-party tool) whenever any handled event occurs. This would make it a lot easier to track down what precisely is going on while I am interacting with this beast. Is there an 'on any event being handled' event I can handle, or some kind of add-in for VS which would make this possible?

    during debug mode or while i am doing testing, i need to print lost of various information, so i use this method ifdef TESTING // code with lots of debugging info else // clean code only endif // TESTING` Is this the good method, or is there any other simple and elegant method. But this way, I am repating the same code in two places and if anything is to be changed later on in the code, I have to do it in both places, which is time consuming and error prone. Thanks.
