• Tomcat Application Generating too many logs

  Hi, I have an application which runs on tomcat 6.0.20 server on linux ubuntu server. It generates a huge amount of logs in the catalina.out folder, most of these are generated while using the application, but are not generated by the application. At first, I thought that my tokenizer class was broken. But after logging all the incoming bytes to the tokenizer, it turns out that the raw bytes in recvb weren't a valid message. I didn't think that corrupted data like this was possible with a tcp data stream. I figured it had to be some type of buffer overflow so I set sock.ReceiveBufferSize = 1024 * 1024 * 8; and the parsing error never, ever occurs in testing (it happens often enough to replicate if I don't change the ReceiveBufferSize). But my question is: why wasn't I seeing an exception or an error state or something if the socket's internal buffer was overflowing before I changed this buffer size?

• How to make this into a self contained jQuery plugin? Works inline.

  Hi, I have been trying to make this to be a little jQuery plugin that I can reuse in the future without having to write the following into my actions.js file in full. This works when loaded in the same file where I set the height using my variable tallest. var tallest = null; $('.slideshow img').each(function(index) { if ($(this).height() >= tallest ) { tallest = $(this).height(); } }); $('.slideshow').height(tallest); This works and will cycle through all the items, then set the value of tallest to the greatest height found. The following however does not work: This would be the plugin, loaded from its own file (before the actions.js file that contains the parts using this): (function($){ $.fn.extend({ tallest: function() { var tallest = null; return this.each(function() { if ($(this).height() >= tallest ) { tallest = $(this).height(); } }); } }); })(jQuery); Once loaded I am trying to use it as follows: $('.slideshow img').tallest(); $('.slideshow').height(tallest); However the above 2 lines return an error of 'tallest is undefined'. How can I make this work? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thinking about this even more the perfect usage of this would be as follows: $('.container').height(tallest('.container item')); But I wouldn't even know where to begin to get this to work in the manner that you pass the object to be measured into the function by adding it into the brackets of the function name.. And with or without this change the _show partial is not render and the above error is given. Not really that good with Javascript any help would be great! P.s.   I am running a Django instance locally and doing some Facebook development. So, I set up a port on a remote machine to forward to my local machine, so that Facebook can hit the web server, and have the requests forwarded to my local machine. Unfortunately, I'm getting the following error in my browser when I try and access the page: http://dev.thegreathive.com/ Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I think the problem is on my local machine, since if I kill the SSH tunnel, the error message changes.

• jQuery, unable to store data returned by $.get function.

  I am trying to turn div#sidebar into a sidebar in my app. My code looks like the one below. $('#sidebar').userProfile(); jQuery.fn.userProfile = function() { $.get('/users/profile', function(data){ $(this).html(data); }); }; It didnt work because, I found the this (inside the $.get function) here contexts to the get request and not $('#sidebar'). Then I tried something like below. $('#sidebar').userProfile(); #This doesnot work jQuery.fn.userProfile = function() { var side_bar = null; $.get('/users/profile', function(data){ side_bar = data; }); $(this).html(side_bar); console.log(side_bar); }; This doesnt work either. In firebug console I see Null which I am setting on top when I am declaring the variable.Atlast I made it work by changing my code to something like below by hardcoding the selector. #This works, but I cannot turn any element to a sidebar which is sick. jQuery.fn.userProfile = function() { $.get('/users/profile', function(data){ $('#sidebar').html(data); }); }; But this is not I wanted because I wanted to turn any element to a sidebar. In theory it would look as a single row containing, for instance; name, adress, zipcode, Category X, Listitems A. Example FieldType table defining the datatypes available to a user: FieldTypeID, FieldTypeName, TableName 1,"Integer","tblContactInt" 2,"String50","tblContactStr50" ... A user the define his fields in the FieldDefinition table: FieldDefinitionID, FieldTypeID, FieldDefinitionName 11,2,"Name" 12,2,"Adress" 13,1,"Age" Finally we store the actual contact data in separate tables depending on its datatype.   I am attempting to encode video using libavcodec/libavformat. I'm trying to change the standard output-example.c from ffmpeg source. The AVI file is created on the disk, but the only sound is encoded. I tried adding a lot of options for x264 from here. All the other codecs works fine, mpeg2, mpeg4, mjpeg, xvid. In addition to specifying the parameters x264, I also set the codec to AVOutputFormat structure. That's all I've done. The "all" target depends on v12target and v13 target, which set a number of variables for that particular build. It also depends on an "avrcommontargets" pattern, which defines how to actually do the compiling. avrcommontargets then depends on the ELF file, which in turn depends on object files, which are built from the C source code. Each compiled C file results in an object file (*.o). Since each configuration (v12, v13, etc.) results in a different output, the C file needs to be built several times with the output placed in different subdirectories. For example, "build/v12/main.o", "build/v13/main.o", etc. Sample output: TODO call GCC to compile C file: destination build//main.o, source main.c TODO build ELF file from object file: destination build/DoV12.elf, source build//main.o TODO build ELF file from object file: destination build/DoV13.elf, source build//main.o The problem is that the object file isn't going into the correct subdirectory. For example, "build//main.o" instead of "build/v12/main.o". That then prevents the main.o from being correctly rebuilt to generate the v13 version of main.o. I'm guessing the issue is that $(INTDIR) is a target specific variable, and perhaps this can't be used in the pattern targets I defined for %.elf and %.o. The correct output would be: TODO call GCC to compile C file: destination build/v12/main.o, source main.c TODO build ELF file from object file: destination build/DoV12.elf, source build/v12/main.o TODO call GCC to compile C file: destination build/v13/main.o, source main.c TODO build ELF file from object file: destination build/DoV13.elf, source build/v13/main.o What do I need to do to adjust this makefile so that it generates the correct output?

I am wondering have I correctly declared my event handlers in the constructor and within the using statement of the web client? And is this correct way to remove the event handlers in the Dispose method? • Is this a good way to expose generic base class methods through an interface?

  I am trying to provide an interface to an abstract generic base class. I want to have a method exposed on the interface that consumes the generic type, but whose implementation is ultimately handled by the classes that inherit from my abstract generic base. However I don't want the subclasses to have to downcast to work with the generic type (as they already know what the type should be).   I'm trying to serialise an object using simple xml (http://simple.sourceforge.net/). The object setup is pretty simple: @Root(name = "order_history") public class OrderHistory { @Element(name = "id", required = false) public int ID; @Element(name = "id_order_state") public int StateID; @Element(name = "id_order") public int OrderID; } The problem is when I create a new instance of this class without an ID: OrderHistory newhistory = new OrderHistory(); newhistory.OrderID = _orderid; newhistory.StateID = _stateid; and I serialize it via simple xml: StringWriter xml = new StringWriter(); Serializer serializer = new Persister(); serializer.write(newhistory, xml); it still reads 0 in the resulting xml: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <order_history> <id>0</id> <id_order>2</id_order> <id_order_state>8</id_order_state> </order_history> I'm guessing the reason for this is that the ID property is not null, since integers can't be null. • A queue in C using structs and dynamic memory allocation (linked list)

  I am tasked with making a queue data structure in C, as a linked list. Our lecturer gave us a large amount of code to implement a stack, but we have to adapt it to create a queue. The code our lecturer gave us ends up not compiling and segfaulting at the exact same point as the code I wrote for the queue. I'm very new to structs, malloc and C in general, so there could be something painfully obvious I've overlooked. However, I cannot even get to that part (pop and push are written but omitted for brevity). The code is segfaulting at the line myqueue->front = new; with the following gdb output: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x08048401 in main () at queue.c:27 27 myqueue->front = new; Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

• How can i Execute a Controller's ActionMethod programatically?

  Hi folks, I'm trying to execute a controller's Action Method programatically and I'm not sure how. Scenario: When my ControllerFactory fails to find the controller, I wish it to manually execute a single action method which i have on a simple, custom controller. I don't want to rely on using any route data to determine the controller/method .. because that route might not have been wired up. Eg. // NOTE: Error handling removed from this example. public class MyControllerFactory : DefaultControllerFactory { protected override IController GetControllerInstance(Type controllerType) { IController result = null; // Try and load the controller, based on the controllerType argument. // ... snip // Did we retrieve a controller? if (controller == null) { result = new MyCustomController(); ((MyCustomController)result).Execute404NotFound(); // <-- HERE! } return result; } } .. and that method is .. public static void Execute404NotFound(this Controller controller) { result = new 404NotFound(); // Setup any ViewData.Model stuff. result.ExecuteResult(controller.ControllerContext); // <-- RUNTIME // ERROR's HERE } Now, when I run the controller factory fails to find a controller, i then manually create my own basic controller. I then call the extension method 'Execute404NotFound' on this controller instance. That's fine .. until it runs the ExecuteResult(..) method. Why? the controller has no ControllerContext data. As such, the ExecuteResult crashes because it requires some ControllerContext. So - can someone out there help me? see what I'm doing wrong. Remember - i'm trying to get my controller factory to manually / programmatically call a method on a controller which of course would return an ActionResult. Please help!

• Bash script, read values from stdin pipe

  I'm trying to get bash to process data from stdin that gets piped it, but no luck, what I mean is none of the following work: echo "hello world" | test=($(< /dev/stdin)); echo test=$test test= echo "hello world" | read test; echo test=$test test= echo "hello world" | test=`cat`; echo test=$test test= where I want the output to be test=hello world. Note I've tried putting "" quotes around "$test" that doesn't work either.

• T-SQL Table Joins - Unique Situation

  Hello Everyone. This is my first time encountering the case like this and don't quite know how to handle. Situation: I have one table tblSettingsDefinition, with fields: ID, GroupID, Name, typeID, DefaultValue. Then I have tblSettingtypes with fields TypeID, Name. And I have final table, tblUserSettings with fields SettingID, SettingDefinitionID, UserID, Value. The whole point of this is to have customizable settings. Setting can be defined for a Group or as global setting (if GroupID is NULL). It will have a default value, but if user modifies the setting, an entry is added to tblUserSettings that stores new value. I want to have a query that grabs user settings by first looking at the tblUserSettings, and if it has records for the given user, grabs them, if not retrieves default settings. But the trick is that no matter if user has settings or not, I need to have fields from other two table retrieved to know the setting's Type, Name etc... (which are stored in those other tables). I'm writing query something like this: SELECT * FROM tblSettingDefinition SD LEFT JOIN tblUserSettings US ON SD.SettingID = US.SettingDefinitionID JOIN tblSettingTypes ST ON SD.TypeID=ST.ID WHERE US.UserID=@UserID OR ((SD.GroupID IS NULL) OR (SD.GroupID=(SELECT GroupID FROM tblUser WHERE ID=@UserID))) but it retrieves settings for all users from tblUserSettings instead of just ones that match current @UserID. And if @UserID has no records in tblUserSettings, still, all user settings are retrieved instead of the defaults from tblSettingDefinition. Hope I made myself clear. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
