• Setting up a SQL server outside the domain

  Hi, im very new to this. I've set up an account "SQLBOX" thats on the a network, but not connected to the domain. I have installed an instance of SQL Server 2008 and am trying to connect to it from another machine on the network but am getting "Cannot connect to "SQLBOX"". From the "SQLBOX" i can connect to sqlservers on the domain, but not vice-versa. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if the description isn't great. EDIT I can ping the box from a machine on the domain

• NullReferenceException in EntityFramework, how come?

  Take a look at this query: var user = GetUser(userId); var sessionInvites = ctx.SessionInvites .Include("InvitingUser") .Include("InvitedUser") .Where(e => e.InvitedUser.UserId == user.UserId) .ToList(); var invites = sessionInvites; // Commenting out the two lines below, and it works as expected. foreach (var invite in sessionInvites) ctx.DeleteObject(invite); ctx.SaveChanges(); return invites; Now, everything here executes without any errors. The invites that exists for the user are being deleted and the invites are being returned with success. However, when I then try to navigate to either InvitingUser or InvitedUser on any of the returned invites, I get NullReferenceException. All other properties of the SessionIvites returned, works fine. How come? [EDIT] Now the weird thing is, if I comment out the lines with delete it works as expected. (Except that the entities will not get deleted :S)

  In Visual Studio 2008 (and others) when creating a .NET or silverlight application if you look at your project properties, it seems like you can only have one assembly name - across all configurations. I would like to compile my application as: MyAppDebug - in debug mode and just MyApp - in release mode Does anyone know if this is possible? Edit: It seems some people are questioning the reasoning behind the question, so I'll explain a little further: I'm working on a Silverlight application which gets automatically uploaded to our test site when I to a "build solution". The trouble is, the test team are now testing the online version, whilst I work on a new one. So, I want to have a url like .\MyApp.html for the regular version that the QA team will test and then .\MyApp.html?version=debug for the current version that I'm working on.

• C# Lambda Problem

  Probably something simple, but as I'm new to lambda expressions, the problem evades me: m => m.contactID == contactID && m.primaryAddress == true && (m.addressTypeID == 2 || m.addressTypeID == 3) I tried to use that lambda expression but I receive an invalid operator. Is there a way to simplify this so that it would work? Edit: The equivolent sql query would be: SELECT * FROM Contact WHERE contactID = 3 AND primaryAddress = 1 AND (addressTypeID = 2 OR addressTypeID = 3) I have a repository function defined like so: public E Single(Expression<Func<E, bool>> where) { return objectSet.Single<E>(where); } I'm passing the lambda expression above into this function. I have 2 tables Members and Managers Members has: memberID, Name, Address Managers has: memberID, EditRights, DeleteRights EditRights and DeleteRights are of type bit. Mangers have a relationship with Members, because they are members themselves. I want to select all members id's, name and adress and for the members that are managers show if they have editrights and/or deleterights.   I'm implementing a ruby server for handling sockets being created from GPRS modules. The thing is that when the module powers down, there's no indication that the socket closed. I'm doing threads to handle multiple sockets with the same server. What I'm asking is this: Is there a way to use a timer inside a thread, reset it after every socket input, and that if it hits the timeout, closes the thread? Where can I find more information about this? • Replication - syncronizing most of the data some of the time

  I have some data that isn't properly "partitioned" (for lack of a better word). All inserts, processing and reporting happen on the same table. The bulk of the processing happens not long after the insert and not long after that it becomes immutable (we're talking days). I could do all inserts and processing on a new table that I replicate to the old table. When I detect that the data has become immutable I would delete the data from the new table, but I would edit the delete replication stored procedure so that the delete did not replicate. How bad an idea is this? It seems attractive at the moment (I haven't slept on it yet) because it might mitigate a performance problem with only very small changes to the application. It also seems like it might be a good way to shoot myself in the foot.

  Is it possible to create a full text index on a VIEW? If so, given two columns column1 and column2 on a VIEW, what is the SQL to get this done? The reason I'd like to do this is I have two very large tables, where I need to do a FULLTEXT search of a single column on each table and combine the results. The results need to be ordered as a single unit. Suggestions? EDIT: This was my attempt at creating a UNION and ordering by each statements scoring.   Hello. I'm trying to optimize the performance of my code, but I'm not familiar with xcode's debuggers or debuggers in general. Is it possible to track the execution time and frequency of calls being made at runtime? Imagine a chain of events with some recursive calls over a fraction of a second. What's the best way to track where the CPU spends most of its time? Many thanks. Edit: Maybe this is better asked by saying, how do I use the xcode debug tools to do a stack trace?

Here is my solution in Bash but I would be very interested for a more portable (non-GNU) version for use on Unix proper. dir='some/directory' file=`/bin/ls -1 "$dir" | sort --random-sort | head -1` path=`readlink --canonicalize "$dir/$file"` # Converts to full path echo "The randomly-selected file is: $path" Anybody have any other ideas? Edit: lhunath makes a good point about parsing ls. I guess it comes down to whether you want to be portable or not. If you have the GNU findutils and coreutils then you can do: find "$dir" -maxdepth 1 -mindepth 1 -type f -print0 \ | sort --zero-terminated --random-sort \ | sed 's/\d000.*//g/' Whew, that was fun! Also it matches my question better since I said "random file". Honsetly though, these days it's hard to imagine a Unix system deployed out there having GNU installed but not Perl 5.

• Plupload - how to stop uploads individualy

  Hello. I'm using plupload script with PHP and I am uploading using HTML5. I would like to stop uploads separately, from the list, not the whole process. Is this possible with plupload ? I think it would be useful to stop individual files. Thanks. EDIT: Let's just say that a user tries to upload 2 files and they are added to queue. After that, he clicks the upload button and the upload starts. At some point during the upload he realize that he doesn't really want to upload the second file, he needs to stop the 2nd upload and the 1st upload should continue. I can send an uploader.start(); on the plupload but it will stop all upload processes...and I need to stop just one. Thanks.

• Can't change header logo in Magento?

  Hello, I have created my own theme for magento, and I am trying to edit the logo and am having difficulty. I have created my own local/Mage/Page/etc/config.xml file, and specified within the config the following: <logo_src>images/Race-Ramps-logo-streaked-gradient.gif</logo_src> I created a custom layout in the file as well. I can see the custom layout file in the CMS, but my changes to the logo do absolutely nothing. I have even tried changing the original core config.xml, it still stays the same. On multiple websites, I have been told to go to System Configuration Design Header, but I do not have the header option? Help please!

  I've found that I can write (say, copy a file into) a Read-Only directory. That is, a Directory with ...Attributes = FileAttributes.ReadOnly.I can even change its name. The only thing I've found that can't be done is to delete it. Is that really the only thing that ReadOnly prevents? EDIT: Here's the code: (The Directory is empty.) (new DirectoryInfo(path)).Attributes = FileAttributes.ReadOnly; Directory.Delete(path); It throws an Access to the path 'c:\... is denied. exception. But after changing ReadOnly to Normal it works fine. So what does a ReadOnly prevent, and what doesn't it prevent?

• Getting attachments from a mail account with .NET

  I'd like a free library for .NET to get attachments from an account (such as gMail, or others) via imap4 (not necessarely), and save them in a folder. Ideally it would allow me to get a list of them, and download only some given ones (filtering by extension, name, and/or size) and be free.   Imagine because of tradition that your team's preferred development method involved several people with a shared login, editing files on a build server using vim. [Note that there are well known issues to do with only one person being able to edit a file at once, people going away from their desk and leaving the file locked in vim, system builds/restarts requiring everybody to stop debugging while this occurs. This is not what the question is about] If source control was to be introduced without changing the workflow, would there be much benefit? I am guessing that the commit history won't be much use as it will contain all changes by everybody in big lumps. So it wouldn't really be possible to rewind individual changes apart from at a really big level.

• Best way to handle input from a keyboard "wedge"

  I'm writing a C# POS (point of sale) system that takes input from a keyboard wedge magcard reader. This means that any data it reads off of a mag stripe is entered as if it were typed on the keyboard very quickly. Currently I'm handling this by attaching to the KeyPress event and looking for a series of very fast key presses that contain the card swipe sentinel characters. Is there a better way to deal with this sort of input? Edit: The device does simply present the data as keystrokes and doesn't interface through some other driver. Also We use a wide range of these types of devices so ideally a method should work independent of the specific model of wedge being used. However if there is no other option I'll have to make do.

• Can I make DataGridView.EndEdit trigger the CellValidating event?

  I'm using a DataGridView in my WinForms application. My main objective is to make the Enter key not move to the next row in the grid. I still want the enter key to validate and end edit mode. I found this FAQ entry and subclassed DataGridView to override ProcessDialogKey(). If the key pressed is Enter, I call EndEdit(), otherwise I call base.ProcessDialogKey(). It works great, except the CellValidating event isn't fired. Currently, I'm just manually calling my validation logic before I call EndEdit, but it seems like I'm missing something. I guess I could call OnCellValidating, but then I'd be worried I'm missing some other event. What I really want is some flavour of EndEdit() that behaves just like pressing enter on the last row of a grid with adding disabled.

• Ontology - Conflict of same individuals property and datatype property

  I am having a problem with "same individuals property" in protege, when i run a reasoner (pellet 1.5 or fact++) Lets take ontology example thing has class sons A and B, A has sons C and D. B, C and D have individuals of the same class. Cant i say a individual C is "same individual" as individual B, and then add also individual D is "same individual" as individual B. Wich is true, they have diferent names, but they are same individual.. Why does it only work when i set individual B has "same individual" of type C or D? The protege error is "InconsistentOntologyException:Fact++.Kernel: inconsistent Ontology" and pellet says ontology is inconsistent. EDIT: Seems its a more deep rooted problem, this example works :(, gonna keep checking. EDIT2: After some more experimenting, seems its a conflict with DataType properties. They all share a DataType properties with same name. In the example domain of property would be A and range string. Any idea how to solve?

  I created a VB.NET Windows Forms Application in Visual Studio 2008. When I run my program from the command-line, I get no output (only the next prompt). What am I doing wrong?   I am interested in writing an app that overlays a small heads up display (HUD) over another application, in VB.NET. Does anyone have an example of this? I will need to enumerate all open windows to find the window that I want, and then overlay some text in a specific position on the window. If the user moves that window, my text will need to follow. (I will probably be painting the text in a loop over and over). Edit: nobody answered my original query - I added C# to the keywords to see if any of gurus in that language might have an answer. thanks.

  If I have an array like this: [0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5], is there a built in method to create this: [[0, 1, 2], [3, 4, 5]] given a width of 3? If there is no built in method, how could I improve on this? def multi_to_single(array, width) return [].tap{|md_array| (array.length.to_f / width).ceil.times {|y| row = (array[(y*width), width]) md_array.push( row + Array.new(width - row.length)) } } end I feel like I have missed something obvious because I haven't programmed ruby in a while! • How to click through JGlassPane With MouseListener to UI behind it

  I have a JFrame and a bunch of JComponents on top of the JFrame. I need to make use of the JGlassPane and I used this implementation to set it up. JPanel glass = new JPanel(); frame.setGlassPane(glass); glass.setVisible(true); glass.setOpaque(false); After doing so I can't select any JButtons or other JComponents under the JGlassPane. Is there a way to have only the components on the GlassPane selectable while still having the ability to select components under the GlassPane? Edit I forgot to mention (not knowing this would be relevant) that I did attach both a MouseListener and a MouseMotionListener to the glass pane. Is there a way to pass the Mouse Events to other components and only use them when needed?
