• mounts aren't case-sensitive

  I mounted a few drives from Linux boxes in my network, but those mounts aren't case-sensitive. The mount command I used ( from the man mount.cifs, case-sensitive should be the default ): mount //10.0.1.10/remote_folder /local_folder -t cifs -o username=xxxx,password=xxxx but those mounts aren't sensitive. for example doing: ls -l /local_folder/testfile.txt ls -l /local_folder/TESTFILE.TXT give's the same result... instead of 'file not found' Couple of important points: All drives are running on Linux machines. My local machine is running Fedora 18 and it is case-sensitive for ANY folder/file expect the mounted drives. All drive/mounts are case-sensitive when when doing SSH. So if I SSH from my local machine to a remote machine, doing ls -l /local_folder/TESTFILE.TXT will say file not found as it should. So I believe the issue is in my local machine and not in the way I did the mount. but I'm not sure where to look next (I'm new to Linux)

  Hi all! We are here again to intorduce you some of our new NetBeans 7.3 features. Today we'll show you some another Twig improvements. So let's start! Code Templates First feature is about Code Templates. We added some basic templates to improve your Editor experience. You will be really fast with it! If someone don't know what Code Templates are, they are piece of code (snippet) which is inserted into editor after typing its abbreviation and pressing Tab key (or another one which you define in Tools -> Options -> Editor -> Code Templates -> Expand Template on) to epxand it. All default Twig Code Templates can be found in Tools -> Options -> Editor -> Code Templates -> Twig Markup. You can add your custom templates there as well. Note: Twig Markup code templates have to be expanded inside Twig delimiters (i.e. { and }). If you try to expand them outside of delimiters, it will not work, because then you are in HTML context. If you want to add a template which will contain Twig delimiter too, you have to add it directly into Tools -> Options -> Editor -> Code Templates -> HTML/XHTML. Don't add them into Twig File, it will not work. Interpolation Coloring The second, minor, feature is, that we know how to colorize Twig Interpolation. • Tab Completion In Emacs shell-mode SSH Sessions

  My current use pattern of emacs results in my having several shell-mode buffers open, each running an ssh session. I am running into an issue with this, though - when I try to tab-complete file names and other things in my remote session, the shell attempts to use completions available on the local machine instead of on the remote machine. For example, if the file ~/foobar exists on the local machine and ~/frob exists on the remote machine, typing in ~/f and pressing tab results in ~/foobar instead of completing correctly. If I use ssh outside of emacs and try the same thing, I get the correct completion of ~/frob instead. How can I get tab-completion to complete the way it does in normal ssh sessions ?

• Selected wrong OS from bootloader settings and now can't do anything

  I'm trying to help a friend out with an urgent issue he is having. He has two Windows 7 installations when he was starting up his computer so the bootloader menu was making him select an OS every time he restarted. One installation is functional and the other is not. He wanted to make it so that he did not have to select the correct OS every time he booted up. He chose the wrong (non-functional) operating system in the windows settings and set the time to select an operating system int he bootloader menu to 0 seconds. Now, his computer attempts to boot into a non-working operating system and he has no way of selecting the correct operating system so that he can fix his mistake. What can he do to get into the functional OS so that he can fix his mistake? Thanks so much.

• 'server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool' error

  Currently users at my company are unable to access their home folder (or any folder on our domain controller). I am working remotely and cant physically access the machine until tomorrow morning, but I can access it with RDC. When I attempt to ping other machines on our network from the machine in question (connected with RDC), I immediately get the error PING: transmit failed. error code 1450. Event Viewer is full of 2019 errors: The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty Does anyone have experience with this specific issue? I have found some info with Google, but would like to hear what the pros at SF have top say. This is a Windows 2000 server.

• Take care to unhook Anonymous Delegates

  Anonymous delegates are great, they elimiante the need for lots of small classes that just pass values around, however care needs to be taken when using them, as they are not automatically unhooked when the function you created them in returns. In fact after it returns there is no way to unhook them. • Website Ethics / legal issues, image copyrights

  Ignoring the technical implementation of a website for a second, assume a website that is similar to twitter but with pictures. A user say something and puts a picture of whatever they said. As the nature of the internet, the images will most likely not be his/hers image. There are 2 options that I see for dealing with this: 1. The user will post a URL of the picture and the website will pull the picture from that URL everytime someone enters that page 2. The website will save the image in its own database of images and display the image to the visitors 'locally' The problem with option #1, while it saved storage, I see an issue with 'stealing' other websites bandwidth and if my website has many many visitors it could cost the image-hosting websites a lot and possible even crash it if the server can't handle the load. The problem with opion #2, while it saves the load to other websites, it practically takes pictures that could have copyright on them. Which option is better to implement in terms of legal issues and ethics? When do I need to contact another website to request permission to use the images from that site? Does anyone really care about that anymore. Where can I read about this?

• Help me find the offending process waking my Windows 7 PC from hibernate every night

  Recently my Windows 7 64-bit PC has started waking every night from hibernation around 3:30am. I have done the following to try and figure out what is causing the issue with no luck: Examined the Windows Event logs. Nothing is noted Ran powercfg -lastwake and that reports nothing c:\powercfg -lastwake Wake History Count - 1 Wake History [0] Wake Source Count - 0 Ran powercfg to find what devices are armed for wake. Interestingly, this reports two items (I've already unchecked the "Allow this device to wake the computer" in device manager): The keyboard and something called the "eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR)". This is a desktop PC and it does not have an Infrared received, so I'm not sure what that device is. Suffice to say it does not have the option to "Allow device to wake..." available in Device Manager. C:\powercfg -devicequery wake_armed eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR) HID Keyboard Device My next step is to disable the Keyboard from wake, but I'm not convined that's the problem. This is on a Dell XPS435 if that helps anyone.

• Debian Linux server hangs after a week or so

  I have 2 Debian Linux 6.0.4 servers that have a strange behaviour: after 5-7-10 days they hang. By this I mean the servers need to be restarted and before that ping won't answer. I've been struggling with this problem for a couple of months now and here's some thoughts/what I tried without being able to solve the problem. I changed the RAM on a server. Being 2 different servers I doubt that it could be something related to hardware as a 3rd identical server won't have this problem. I logged the server load and when it crashes the load is fine (quite low) I cannot find anything in the server logs, logs are fine till the server freezes. I don't have access to console unfortunately. While I have years of admin experience I have never encountered such an issue and right now I have no idea where else to investigate. If you have an idea of what I could try in order to fix the problem please share it with me:-)

• Windows 8 Automatic Logon Tick Box Missing

  Recently (in the past few days,) perhaps following the latest Windows Update, it appears the tick box to allow automatic logon in "control userpasswords2" or "netplwiz" has disappeared. I have two machines running Windows 8 and the option is no longer available for either. Both machines user a Microsoft account, rather than a local account, for the primary user to logon. The only other recent change I can think of, and I am confident this change was made well before this issue arose, was enabling HomeGroup. How can I re-enable automatic logon for the affected user?

• Mini keyboard has no home/end keys; how to type them?

  Some months ago I needed a small keyboard and bought an Okion KM229 without noticing that it has no Home or End key. This makes it tricky to type as I'm so used to using these keys. I haven't yet figured out if there is a key combination that issues Home and End keystrokes. Does anyone have experience of these keyboards and know how to issue those keystrokes? The keyboard is used on a PC running Windows XP. I have used the contact form on the Okion USA web site to ask this question but received no response. Wikipedia suggests that Home and End keystrokes are issued with Fn-Left and Fn-Right on some limited size keyboards. I may have tried those but don't remember for sure. I will try them again though when I am on site again in a week or so. Any other thoughts would be welcomed in the meantime.

• Internet is far slower in Ubuntu than Windows 7 on dual-booted machine

  Edit: I'll leave the original post as-is, but after further investigation, it appears that the problem is something to do with my wi-fi card. Speeds are normal when I connect via cable. Edit 2: Problem was solved. It was something to do with the wireless card drivers. I normally use Windows 7 on my laptop and have internet speeds that are normally about 15-20 Mb/s. I have recently dual-booted with Ubuntu 12.10, and have noticed that internet speeds are drastically slower in Ubuntu. When tested, speeds range from 0.2-2 Mb/s, although occasionally being significantly faster than that or even stopping completely for short periods of time. I've also noticed that when first booting into Ubuntu, speeds start fairly fast, and drop to incredibly slow with a few seconds to a few minutes. There's still some possibility that the issue may be with my ISP, as things seem slower than usual even in Windows, but I suspect that it is related to Ubuntu, as things are far slower in Ubuntu than in Windows. I'm wondering, what could be the cause of this? Potentially relevant information: -I've dual booted before on this machine with earlier versions of Ubuntu (different ISP at the time) with no problem. • Battery not recognized on my laptop (and it recognizes my laptop as a desktop)

  I have installed Ubuntu (both 10.10 and 11.04 pre-release) on my laptop but my battery is not recognized and it is detected as a desktop system rather than a laptop. I have tried to get the output of cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state but the directory doesn't exist. I have tried another guide to paste the battery info into this directory but it doesn't allow me to do that and says that the directory doesn't exist, even though I'm trying to make it. I tried it in root Nautilus and even on an install of Lubuntu (with a root file manager) but it still failed to budge. I really don't know what to do as I have tried all the guides on the internet that I could find. Is there any way to change the configuration file(s) that detect the internal hardware of the computer. The /proc directory is a temporary RAM directory afaik. Is there a directory where that data is stored permanently and where the RAM reads if you know what I mean? Thanks in advance. AZorin This issue has been reported as bug #764513.

I basically saw the picture of the speaker and knew that it would be a good session. I was completely wrong; it was the BEST SESSION of CodeStock 2012.  In fact it was so good, I texted another coworker attending the conference to get over and listen to Leon. Leon took on the concept of growth in the software development community. He specifically referred David Hansson in his ability to stick to his beliefs when the development community thought that he was crazy for creating Ruby on Rails. If you do not know this story Ruby on Rails is one of the fastest growing web languages today. In addition, he also touched on the flip side of this argument in that we must be open to others ideas and not discard them so quickly because we all come from differing perspectives and can add value to a project/team/community. This session left me with two very profound concepts/quotes: “In order to learn you must do it badly in front of a crowed and fail.” - @Rubybuddha I can look back on my career so far and say that he is correct; I think I have learned the most after failing, especially when I achieved this failure in front of other. “Experts must be able to fail.” - @Rubybuddha I think we can all learn from our own mistakes but we can also learn from others. When respected experts fail it is a great learning opportunity for the entire team as well as the person who failed. When expert admit mistakes and how they worked through them can be great learning tools for other developers so that they know how to avoid specific scenarios and if they do become stuck in the same issue they will know how to properly work their way out of them.

• Anti Aliasing dead

  I have a problem with anti-aliasing. No matter the software settings, it seems to be gone. I tried driver updating and reinstalling, cleaning of the hardware, different monitor with different cablies, OS reinstalling and changing, none of which helped. I decided to change the graphic card, but that didn't work either. Moreover, I have a distinct impression that the jagged edges are worsening as time goes by. I think this is a hardware-related issue, but I don't know exactly what to do. If anyone here had similar troubles, and/or has an idea how to cope with them, I'd be very grateful. My current card is a nVidia GT610.

• Browser language detection & content ranking for new language on the same site.

  I've been reading a lot about it but it's still really hard to make up my mind. My understand is that if your website provide a link to the other language, this should not be an issue for google as long as your links are clear and clean, google will be able to make his way through it. The website was orginaly in french and I added the english version and I'm just worry that english speaker will just leave if the site is not in the correct language, for the home page I just wanted to get the value from the browser and redirect it to /fr/ or /en/ for the first page. (using php this will be very easy) Could you guys have a look at it and tell me what you think about it http://tinyurl.com/bpc5bn9 I don't want to get it wrong and lost my ranking with google. Also the website has good rank on the french side and the english has been online for 2 weeks and only get few visit a day, is that because all the back link refer to /fr/ and google is cleaver enough to decide that they are 2 differantes website and the back link will have to point to /en/ to increase the ranking value?   How do i disable the notifications of particular errors? A little background to my issue. During the installation of the Kaspersky, it disables all the windows firewall for all except the domain. I have remedied this by creating an offline policy in Kaspersky which enables the Kaspersky firewall when out of the office (ie not connected to the office network). The problem now is that users in the office now see a notification showing that the firewall is disabled even though it’s enabled in all scenarios. It’s just that work and home show as disabled when the clients are connected to the office LAN. • How To Change Attachment Size in WorkItems in TFS 2010

  Recently, I came across an issue where I had to change the size limit for WorkItem Attachments in TFS 2010. I searched all around the internet only to find very little information around it which wasn’t clear honestly. So after breaking my head for sometime, I was successful in doing it. Here are my conclusions and the procedure to do it. 1. You DON’T 'have to' programmatically change it. You can do it directly from IIS webservices. 2. You CAN change it programmatically too, by making an entry into TFS Registry using a small piece of code. Let me show you how it is done from IIS. This is to change the size of attachment to your required value for workItems in TFS 2010 for each collection individually. You must be a TFS Admin to do this ( Login with setup account ) Browse to /WorkItemTracking/v1.0/ConfigurationSettingsService.asmx">/WorkItemTracking/v1.0/ConfigurationSettingsService.asmx">/WorkItemTracking/v1.0/ConfigurationSettingsService.asmx">http://localhost:8080/tfs/<YOUR-COLLECTION-NAME>/WorkItemTracking/v1.0/ConfigurationSettingsService.asmx You’ll see 3 asmx services – GetMaxAttachmentSize, GetWorkItemTrackingVersion and SetMaxAttachmentSize. 4. To know what is the current value of the maximum attachment size for a collection, click on the first service and you’ll the current existing value for this particular collection when you click on ‘invoke’ button. ( value is in bytes ) 5. Now click on the ‘SetMaxAttachmentSize’ webservice and fill in the value of your choice. 6. Reset IIS ( not required honestly, but I did it, just to be sure ) 7. Now try attaching a file greater than the size you’ve set. It’ll fail successfully   Below is the error which you’d see in such scenarios. • Allow from referer for HTTP-basic protected SSL apache site

  I have an apache site protected by HTTP basic authentication. The authentication is working fine. Now I would like to bypass authentication for users that are coming from a particular website by relying on the HTTP Referer header. Here is the configuration: SetEnvIf Referer "^http://.*.example\.org" coming_from_example_org <Directory /var/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Deny from all Allow from env=coming_from_example_org AuthName "login required" AuthUserFile /opt/http_basic_usernames_and_passwords AuthType Basic Require valid-user Satisfy Any </Directory> This is working fine for HTTP, but failing for HTTPS. My understanding is that in order to inspect the HTTP headers, the SSL handshake must be completed, but apache wants to inspect the <Directory> directives before doing the SSL handshake, even if I place them at the bottom of the configuration file. Q: How could I workaround this issue? PS: I'm not obsessed with the HTTP referer header, I could use other options that would allow users from a known website to bypass authantication.

• VPN within a VM to allow for internet access on the host

  I have a network connection (created under Networks and Sharing) that I use to connect to a customer's site. But when I use this to connect to the site, I loose all access to the public internet, and can only access customer specific items. I want to circumvent this issue by creating a VM and then utilizing the VM to connect to the network location and interact within the customer's domain, while leaving my host machine open to the internet. I'm not extremely familiar with networking, but I have a few basic skills. Please let me know if this is possible and what the correct procedures are. I already have a VM created with VirtualBox, and both the host and guest are running Windows 7 x64. I have created duplicate VPNs already, but can only connect successfully on the host machine.

• Large temp files created in Windows Server 2003 temp folder

  I'm managing a Windows Server 2003 with around 30 GB space in primary partition. A couple of times the server has crashed with error message saying that the C: drive is full. After searching folders to free up space, I found that lot of temp files being created in C:\WINNT\Temp and some of them of enormous size with more than 2GB. The temp files have common name, Efs###.tmp. Since we encrypt files frequently using Windows's EFS, I initially suspected Windows encryption. But after reading the documentation, I found that Efs###.tmp are in fact created by EFS but they are created only under the folder which you're currently encrypting, not in Temp folder. This looks very strange since Efs##.tmp files shouldn't be created under C:\WINNT\Temp unless someone tried to encrypt that Temp folder itself. The server has Tivoli Backup client. Could that be messing with windows Encryption? Can anyone shed some light on what could be causing the issue?

• What causes memcache to delete keys?

  Our memcache install recently started removing keys, and we're not sure why. Large groups of keys vanish at the same time. Memcache reports that evictions are low to non-existent, and our app has no way to clear memcache (it can only delete specific keys). Even keys of which the app has no knowledge get deleted, so we're pretty convinced they're getting expired. However, our memcache configuration hasn't been touched in some time. Has anyone debugged an issue like this before, and if so, are there any steps you'd recommend we take? How flexible is memcache's expiration policy - is it possible that we're suddenly running into a criterion based on (say) write frequency to a key?
