• How to use jquery ajax to set the content of a div, then call JS from that div

That time problem was resolved himself (without any actions from my side, with Visual Studio restart). At the moment, I had the same problem on another PC (Vista x64, VS2008, Silverlight 3.0, RIA Services Toolkit): ThomasDomainContext class that inherits DomainContext was not visible from the page's codebehind file. Again, it was resolved after VS restart and after that I got another problem: Error 1 'VfmElita.Web.ClientBin.ThomasDomainContext' does not contain a definition for 'employee' and no extension method 'employee' accepting a first argument of type 'VfmElita.Web.ClientBin.ThomasDomainContext' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) D:\Project\Budda\VFMElita\VfmElitaSilverlightClient\MainPage.xaml.cs for the following lines of code (error is noticed for the 31st line): 30: var context = new ThomasDomainContext(); 31: grid1.ItemsSource = context.employee; 32: context.Load(context.GetEmployeeQuery()); Any help is welcome. • Why are my Opteron cores running at only 75% capacity each? (25% CPU idle)

  We've just taken delivery of a powerful 32-core AMD Opteron server with 128Gb. We have 2 x 6272 CPU's with 16 cores each. We are running a big long-running java task on 30 threads. We have the NUMA optimisations for Linux and java turned on. Our Java threads are mainly using objects that are private to that thread, sometimes reading memory that other threads will be reading, and very very occasionally writing or locking shared objects. We can't explain why the CPU cores are 25% idle. I had trouble finding a clear explanation of what 'top' means by "idle" versus "wait", but I get the impression that "idle" means "no more threads that need to be run" but this doesn't make sense in our case. We're using a "Executors.newFixedThreadPool(30)". There are a large number of tasks pending and each task lasts for 10 seconds or so. I suspect that the explanation requires a good understanding of NUMA. Is the "idle" state what you see when a CPU is waiting for a non-local access? If not, then what is the explanation?

But if user clicks to home page link while action page is loading , browser does not go to home page , until action page is completely loaded . First of all what is the reason of this ?   Hi there, I'm using WCF client like this... var client = new TestClient(); try { response = service.Operation(request); } finally { try { if (client.State != CommunicationState.Faulted) client.Close(); } catch (Exception) { client.Abort(); } } but from time to time I get 500 HTTP error which is the only answer I get for next 15 minutes, then everything is back to normal for 15 minutes and so on. I know there is some load balancing stuff going on service side but guys there can't find any problems with it. That's why I started wondering am I using WCF service correctly. I already made a mistake once when I was using "using" to close service connection and I'm afraid I doing something wrong again. So can anybody say whether my way of calling WCF service is correct or not in all (event the most rare) circumstances?

• How to add a Page to Frame using code in WPF

  I have a Window where I have put a Frame. I would like to add a Page to the Frame when I click a button that is also on the Window but not in the Frame. There are several buttons in the Window and each click on a button should load a different Page in the Frame. Since I'm a total newbie on this WPF stuff it's quite possible that this approach is not the best and I have thought about replacing the Frame with a Canvas and then make UserControls instead of Pages that will be added to the Canvas. I welcome any ideas and suggestions on how to best solve this. I aiming for a functionality that is similar to the application Billy Hollis demonstrated in dnrtv episode 115. • Loading embedded resource on Windows 7

  Hello, I have an app that works just fine on my WinXP machine. However, when I try running it on my Win7 machine, it fails whenever it tries to load an embedded resource. The resources are all there (I can see them using Reflector). The lines that fail are all of the form: Splash.Image = new Bitmap(typeof(ContainerForm).Assembly.GetManifestResourceStream("SplashTest.Resources.Logo.gif")); And they all fail with the same exception: Exception='System.ArgumentException: Parameter is not valid. at System.Drawing.Bitmap..ctor(Stream stream) I don't understand why this is not working on my Win7 machine but does on my usual WinXP dev machine. Any ideas?

• Major performance difference between two Oracle database instances

  I am working with two instances of an Oracle database, call them one and two. two is running on better hardware (hard disk, memory, CPU) than one, and two is one minor version behind one in terms of Oracle version (both are 11g). Both have the exact same table table_name with exactly the same indexes defined. I load 500,000 identical rows into table_name on both instances. I then run, on both instances: delete from table_name; This command takes 30 seconds to complete on one and 40 minutes to complete on two. Doing INSERTs and UPDATEs on the two tables has similar performance differences. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could have such a drastic impact on performance between the two databases?

• Using MSpec runner in Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4

  Hi Everyone, I'm a big fan of MSpec so naturally I wanted to use is right away with VS2010 as well. I have the MSpec runner defined as an external tool in Visual Studio to be able to have it always visible as a toolbar item. Anyway, whenever I try to use the MSpec runner (mspec.exe) with a .NET 4.0 solution I get the following error: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Users\[SOMEUSER]\[SOME_FOLDERS}\bin\Debug\[PROJECT].Specs.dll' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. I can still run my specs with the Resharper 5 runner so it's no big drama, but I bothers me to no end :þ Do you guys have any idea what the problem could be? Is there any solution other than recompiling the whole Mspec source code as a .NET 4.0 solution, which I really, really don't want to do? Thanks in advance. Sergi

• Limit the number of cron jobs runnging a PHP script

  I have a daily cron job that grabs 10 users at a time and does a bunch of stuff with them. There are 1000's of users that are part of that process every day. I don't want the cron jobs to overlap as they are heavy on server load. They call stuff from various APIs so I have timeouts and slow data fetching to contend with. I've tried using a flag to mark a cron job as running, but it's not reliable enough as some PHP scripts may time out or fail in various ways. Is there a good way to stop a cron job from calling the PHP script multiple times, or controlling the number of times it is called, so there are only 3 instances for example? I'd prefer a solution in the PHP if possible. Any ideas? At the moment I'm storing the flag as a value in a database, is using a lock type file any better as in here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/851872/does-a-cron-job-kill-last-cron-execution ?

• Restoring Mac-bootcamp-windows-partition image to Windows machine

  Hi, I'm running Windows XP sp3 on my mac using bootcamp. Objective: I'd like to move this partition to a windows machine. This is what I tried: 1. create image using winclone 2. restore drive to disk partition on windows machine using paragon 3. reboot from new partition Results: it attempts to boot in XP (windows flag and progress bar load screen) but then gives me the old BSOD. safe mode just hangs while loading. (I then uninstalled KB977165 on a hunch, but that did nothing to help the issue.) Any ideas, advice, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

• What tech stack/platform to use for a project?

  Hey guys, This is a bit of a weird meta-programming question, but I've realized that my new project doesn't need a full MVC framework, and being a rails guy, I'm not sure what to use now. To give you a gist of the necessary functionality; this website will display static pages, but users will be able to log in and 'edit their current plans'. All purchasing and credit card editing is being handled by a recurring payment subscriber, I just need a page to edit their current plan. All of that will be done through (dynamic) XML API calls, so no database is necessary. Should I stick with my typical rails/nginx stack, or is there something I could use that would lighten the load, since I don't need the Rails heft. I'm familiar with python and PHP but would prefer not to go that route. Is Sinatra a good choice here? tl;dr: What's a good way to quickly serve mostly static pages, preferably in Ruby, with some pages requiring dynamic XML rendering?

  Hi I have my movie in the main timeline and then have a smaller clip in which there is a dynamic text box. • Syncronize an SVN repo (svnsync) with encoding errors

  Is it possible to fix/bypass non-UTF8 encoded svn:log records when syncronizing repositories with svnsync? Background I'm in the process of taking over the maintenance of an open source module that is stored within a large (well over 10,000 revisions) subversion (1.5.5) repository. I do not have admin access to the remote repository to dump/filter/load the module. The old repository is being discontinued and I am trying to sync the original sub module to my local (1.6+) repository with svnsync. For example: svnsync file://home/svn/temp-repo/ http://path.to.repo/modulename/ The problem is that the old repository didn't enforce UTF8 encoding and I'm hitting errors like: svnsync: Cannot accept 'svn:log' property because it is not encoded in UTF-8 I can't modify the log property in the source repository so I need to somehow modify or ignore the property value when the encoding is unknown/invalid. Any ideas? For example, is it possible to write a pre-revprop-change script to modify the log property in transit?

• Using a ControlParameter in FilterParameters when the property is null

  I have a DataList and FormView; they have separate datasources, though they pull the same info. The FormView's datasource has a FilterExpression to pull whatever's been selected on the DataList. On first load, the SelectedValue of the DataList is null (naturally). I expect the FilterExpression to result in zero rows, but it doesn't. If I set the DefaultValue to 0, it does, but then the parameter never updates when I select something from the DataList. Am I doing it wrong?

• getResourceAsStream not loading resource in webapp

  I have a web application that uses a library which resides in TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib. This library looks for a properties file at the root of the classpath (in a class called ApplicationConfig): ApplicationConfig.class.getResourceAsStream("/hv-application.properties"); My Tomcat web application contains this properties file. It is in WEB-INF/classes, which is the root of the classpath right? However, at runtime, when it tries to load the properties file, it throws an exception because it can't find it (getResourceAsStream returns null). Everything works fine if my application is a simple, standalone Java application. Does Tomcat cause the getResourceAsStream method to act differently? I know there's a lot of similar questions out there, but none of them have helped unfortunately. Thanks.

  Hello everybody, I need to implement a plugin architecture within c#/.net in order to load custom user defined actions data type handling code for a custom data grid / conversion / ... from non-static linked assembly files. Because the application has to handle many custom user defined actions, Iam in need for unloading them once executed in order to reduce memory usage. I found several good articles about plugin architectures, eg: ExtensionManager PluginArchitecture ... but none of them gave me enough sausage for properly unloading an assembly. As the program is to be distributed and the user defined actions are (as the name states) user defined: how to i prevent the assembly from executing malicious code (eg. closing my progra, deleting files)? Are there any other pitfalls one of you has encountered?

  Hi to all. Is it possible to have a 32x32 images on toolbar while keeping 16x16 in menu. I created toolbar resource (IDR_TOOLBAR1) and set it's button size as 32x32 and load it: if (!m_wndToolBar.CreateEx(this,...) || !m_wndToolBar.LoadToolBar(IDR_TOOLBAR1 )) { ... } When started toolbar correctly shows large btn images but menu is also enlarged showing 32x32 item images!? How to have menu images as before (small 16x16) My app info: SDI, VS2008 Thanks in advance! P.S. I have noticed an option check box "Large Images" in quick customization dialog under options tab. The dialog is enabled by default in my project. When selecting that option images buttons enlarge instantly, the problem is the new sized images is created from small ones and quality is poor. It would be better if new images list is loaded? Once again thanks in advance!

• How to determine what in my script is blocking my HTML rendering?

  I have a web application that uses quite a bit of JavaScript. When the page loads, it's very clear visually that something is blocking the rendering of a particular portion of the web site. This portion is generated by a Tabber Tabify JavaScript library. How can I determine what's blocking the HTML rendering specifically so that I can modify my code to prevent this blocking? Can I use Firebug, or some other tool, to walk through my HTML/JavaScript to determine where the HTML rendering is being blocked and if so, how? UPDATE: YSlow gives my web-application a score of "A" and Page Speed give a score of 94/100. UPDATE 2: The live site is linked below. http://www.uptownelite.com/index.uncompressed.html?city=Dallas,TX What I'm specifically referring too is the actual Tabs themselves being rendering (and NOT the panel content inside the tab panes). It seems strange to me that the Tab headings themselves are taking so long to generate on the first (empty cache) page load.
