• A good web 'desktop' JavaScript, CSS, or both, library that likes ASP.NET Web Forms

  I've come across, in passing, several suites of functions, widgets, frameworks, etc. that seek to produce a desktop like experience on the web. Most are JavaScript and CSS tools that handle web content on an emulation of the desktop-paradigmed UI, e.g. TreeView + Content == Explorer. Is there such a library nicely compatible with ASP.NET Forms without weeks of grief? I'll also settle for something similar, but instead of native ASP.NET, a library for any of the open source CMS products for ASP.NET. (Umbraco is at the top of my list, followed by mojoPortal. I aspire to the level of coding their creators easily demonstrate in the product. [PS, I don't want a 'desktop' ux per se, just light and simple dynamic layout for drag 'n drop, dock windows, a dock bar?.. and other fancy magic.

• Where to start on creating finger swipe navigation in an collection of items

  Lets say I want to make a control to select any integer number by dragging on a "bar" with numbers: (156 is selected) Mousedown on "159" and dragging towards the left and then doing mouseup changes the control to this: (160 is selected) I've been experimenting for the past 3 hours but I'm inexperienced in Silverlight so I'm having problems getting started. My current guess is I should seperate this into 2 steps: Step 1: Build this control without swiping behavior. Just 2 buttons to go up a number or go down a number Step 2: Replace the buttons by handling mouse events. With my limited knowledge I think I would manage building a crappy control that does this, with very messy xaml and c# and lots of headaches when trying to apply styling and fancy state transitions, but I was hoping some xaml wizards could get me started with the basic approach? • VS2010 - Add template to New Project window

  I am trying to add a new project template for an often used pattern. Starting from the class library template I have done the following (it still does not show up in the new project window): opened the .vstemplate file changed name and description to 'hard coded' values (my template). The values in there pulled from the csharpui.dll resources. changed the TemplateID, DefaultName, and ProjectItems included. saved these to the ProjectemplatesCache folder and as a zip in the ProjectTemplates folder. restarted VS2010 and checked the new project location which should have shown my new template. specifically, the folders I saved to were.. C:\program files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplatesCache\CSharp\Windows\1033\HostComm.zip (the zip is the folder name, not a zip file) and C:\program files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\Windows\1033 (this folder has a HostComm.zip file in it) Has anyone else done this? Can it be done? If it can then what did I miss?

  Say I want to model a system where a piece of data can have multiple tags (e.g. a question on a StackOverflow is the data, it's set of tags are the tags). I can model this in Django with the following: class Tag(models.Model): name = models.CharField(10) class Data(models.Model): tags = models.ManyToManyField(Tag) Given a set of strings, what's the best way to go about finding all Data objects that have one of these strings as the name of a tag in their tag list. I've come up with the following, but can't help thinking there is a more "Djangonic" way. • Team Build MSBuild Task Does Not Update Main Build Log File

  I have an after build event in my main TFSBuild.proj file that uses the MSBuild task to call a deployment task after a successful build. The problem is that any errors or messages produced by executing the MSBuild are not written to the BuildLog.txt or ErrorsAndWarnings.txt files that are placed in the drop location after a successful build. Is there an easy way to capture this information?

• Unknown Host error when attempting to connect to connect to Eclipse plugin repository

  Hello, I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm attempting to install a plugin for Eclipse 3.5 from a repository that my company created. This worked in the past on this linux box and also works just fine on my laptop which has Windows XP installed. The exact error message I'm getting in Eclipse is: Unknown Host: <location of repository> org.eclipse.equinox.internal.provisional.p2.core.ProvisionException Any ideas what might be causing something that used to work not to work anymore? Thanks! EDIT: Also, it might be useful to know that I can connect to other eclipse plugin repositories fine; it seems that only my company's internal one is the problem.

• Expose url to webservice

  In our project we want to query a document management system for a specific document or movie. The dms returns a URL with the document location (for example: http://mydomain.myserver1.share/mypdf.pdf or http://mydomain.myserver2.share/mymovie.avi). We want to expose the document to internet users and intranet users. The requested file can be large (large video files). Our architecture is like: request goes like: webapp1 - webapp2 - webapp3 - dms response goes like: dms - webapp3 - webapp2 - webapp1 webapp1 could be on the internet. I have have been thinking how we can obfusicate the real url from the dms, due to security issues. I have seen implementations from other webapps where the pdf URL was obfusicated by creating a temp file for the requested document that is specific for the session and user. So other users cannot easily guess the documentname of other users. My question: is there a pattern that deals with exposing company/user vulernable data to the public ? Our development is in C# 3.5.

  Hi I'm trying to create a "gadget" like application using WPF. The goal is to get the same behavior as a normal Windows 7 gadget: No task-bar entry Doesn't show up when you alt+tab windows NOT always on top, applications can be on top Visible while performing 'Aero Peek' Visible while using 'Show desktop' / Windows+D I've been able to accomplish the first four goals, but have been unable to find a solution to the fifth problem. The closest I've come is by using the utility class from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/75785/how-do-you-do-appbar-docking-to-screen-edge-like-winamp-in-wpf, but this turns the app into a "toolbar", thereby banishing applications from the part of the screen where my gadget GUI is placed. I can see that similar questions has been asked previously on Stackoverflow, but those have died out before a solution was found. Posting anyway in the hope that there is now someone out there with the knowledge to solve this =)

  I'm having a problem with FlashBuilder in what is clearly a compiler bug, but I can't track it down. When my project is compiled inside FlashBuilder, I'm getting the following compiler errors: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: [mx.binding]::IBindingClient Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: [mx.binding]::IWatcherSetup2 Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: [mx.core]::IStateClient2 These errors are reported without a path or location. My project is a flex4 project, moderately complex. It has 6 swc projects, which are referenced within a swf project. (The swf project is the one that's reporting the error). The ANT build script compiles the project fine. The problem exists on more than 1 PC. How do I start tracking down what's causing the problem?

  I want to search a table in editing mode, but when I type a letter the variable tableView.editing is changed to NO. And when I cancel the search, the tableView.editing return to YES. I'd like to retain the editing YES in the result of the search. I put breakpoint in several methods. • Placement coordinates of bitmapData in AS3

• Adding rows to UItableview and passing data between Viewcontrollers

  I have a list of websites in a plist, when the app loads this populates a tableview (which is inside a navigation controller) But I have added an add button to the navigation bar and then created another View Controller to deal with inputting of the new website (Like Title and URL). It is very similar to how the contacts app looks. There is a table view and when you tap add, the add UI slides up. I have got all this working great so far. My Problem is what happens when the user taps Done. I can add the website to the plist (each website is a dictionary in the plist with 2 keys, atm) But then how do I tell the tableView to update? The table view has not been removed from the main window, just the add view has been added on top of the "screen". Another way of asking is, when you tap Save on Add a Contact screen: (not my image) How does the new contact's data (Xyz's data) get shown on the tableview?

• Ending a Rails 2 URL with an IP address causes routing error?

  I'm trying to construct URLs in the format http://servername/find/by/CRITERION/VALUE CRITERION is a finite set of strings, as is VALUE. Trouble is, VALUE needs to be an IP address in some situations, and it's causing me a routing error. Here's my route: map.find 'find/by/:criterion/:query', :controller => "find", :action => "by" And the error, from the Mongrel logs: Processing ApplicationController#index (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-05-07 10:20:32) [GET] ActionController::RoutingError (No route matches "/find/by/ip/1.2.3.4" with {:method=>:get}): Rendering rescues/layout (not_found) If I visit /find/by/foo/bar or /find/by/foo/1234 I don't have problems. I suspect the problem might be Rails' inference of MIME types based on periods in the URL, but I don't really know how I can disable that. I've tried passing a :defaults = {:format = :html} to the route but that causes Mongrel to fail to start entirely. Any help appreciated!

• PostSharp , PDB Debugging and Referenced Assemblies ...

  When using PostSharp with a Referenced Assembly with proper PDB info( checked with chkmatch), it seems strange that the debug info gets lost by VStudio build and post compile process and I get the following error by using chkmatch to compare the assembly after the vstudio build. Error: Debug information not found in the executable. So it doesn't step into for debugging into this assembly. Does Post Sharp properly writes back the Assemblies without destroying the PDB location offset info as I saw no valid offset info in the written back into DLL by PostSharp using Hex Editor and What's the workaround for this ? • Python serialize lexical closures?

  Is there a way to serialize a lexical closure in Python using the standard library? pickle and marshal appear not to work with lexical closures. I don't really care about the details of binary vs. string serialization, etc., it just has to work. For example: def foo(bar, baz) : def closure(waldo) : return baz * waldo return closure I'd like to just be able to dump instances of closure to a file and read them back. Edit: One relatively obvious way that this could be solved is with some reflection hacks to convert lexical closures into class objects and vice-versa. One could then convert to classes, serialize, unserialize, convert back to closures. Heck, given that Python is duck typed, if you overloaded the function call operator of the class to make it look like a function, you wouldn't even really need to convert it back to a closure and the code using it wouldn't know the difference. If any Python reflection API gurus are out there, please speak up.

• Include OpenX ad in a jquery-ui dialog?

  I'm loading some content into a jquery-ui dialog via .ajax. That's all working fine but now I've been given an OpenX ad to embed into the dialog & can't figure out how to do it. I know all the script is stripped when coming in via ajax, & I know how to use $.getScript to load .js files for use in the dialog, but the OpenX ad script I've got uses document.write so I think it's expecting to be embedded inline into the desired position on the page. I've tried appending the escaped script string into the div on ajax success of the main content as below, but this results in the page being redirected to a page with just the ad on it. Attempt shown below: $("#" + idHelpPage).find(".adScript").append("<script type='text/javascript'>var m3_u = (location.protocol=='https:'?'https://d1.openx.org/ajs.php':'http://d1.openx.org/ajs.php');var m3_r = ... etc etc I'm ok with jquery but not great with javascript, would really appreciate any help! • Posting a form and redirecting to action ASP.NET MVC

  I have a navigation bar that uses JQuery to move between 4 stages of signup process. However I need to make sure everything is working with JS disabled. So I have these 4 link images at the bottom of the page and I need so that if one is clicked it posts to the current action so I can save all the form data and then redirect to the next stage. The redirect is easy enough as I will just pass a parameter in the route or form but I don't know how to post the method using just action links. I could put 4 different submit buttons with different classes for the image backgrounds etc but this feels wrong. Any ideas?
