• Selecting MXML siblings with actionscript, like javascript?

  I'm trying to get the sibling of an mxml tag similar to the way siblings are selected in javascript. Is this possible in Actionscript? • C# Class Instantiation Overflow

  Scenario I have a C# Win Forms App, where the Main Form contains a loop that creates 3000 Instances of another form (Form B). Inside Form B there are a large number of properties and fields and a bunch of methods that do a fair amount of processing. Question Will the creation of 3000 of these classes give me problems? I'm thinking along the lines of memory exceptions? I've had 1 or 2 already, and I've also had an exception that says something along the lines of "Something went bang and this is usually a sign of corrupt memory somewhere else". Setup I'm using a DevExpress Ribbon Form and I haven't implemented Dispose on anything....Do I need to? Help greatly appreciated.

• How can I make Vim autosave files when it loses focus?

  I'm used to my editors autosaving files when they lose focus. I recently switched to MacVim, and I can't recreate that behavior. I tried this: autocmd BufLeave,FocusLost * wall but if a buffer is unnamed when the window or MacVim loses focus, I get an error like the following: Error detected while processing BufLeave Auto commands for "*": E141: No file name for buffer 1 I'm confused, because :wall's documentation says: Write all changed buffers. Buffers without a file name or which are readonly are not written. so I'd expect it to skip unnamed buffers. Is there a better way to do this?

• Python - question regarding the concurrent use of `multiprocess`.

  I want to use Python's multiprocessing to do concurrent processing without using locks (locks to me are the opposite of multiprocessing) because I want to build up multiple reports from different resources at the exact same time during a web request (normally takes about 3 seconds but with multiprocessing I can do it in .5 seconds). My problem is that, if I expose such a feature to the web and get 10 users pulling the same report at the same time, I suddenly have 60 interpreters open at the same time (which would crash the system). Is this just the common sense result of using multiprocessing, or is there a trick to get around this potential nightmare? Thanks

  I have some survey data which I'm using Stata to analyze. I want to compute means of one variable by group and save those means to a Stata file. My code looks like this: svyset [iw=wtsupp], sdrweight(repwtp1-repwtp160) vce(sdr) svy: mean x I tried svy: by grp: mean x but that did not work. I could save each mean to a separate file by simply saying svy: mean x if grp==1 but that's inefficient. Is there a better way? Saving results to a file like one can use SAS ODS to capture results is also a need. I am not talking about the log here. I need the means and the associated group. I'm thinking estimates save [path],replace but I'm not sure if that will give me a Stata file or the group if I can figure out how to use by processing.

  my view generates keys in this format ["job_id:1234567890", 1271430291000] where the first key element is a unique key and the second is a timestamp in milliseconds.   I am developing an Android App that uses the Google APIs Client Library for Java version 1.12.0. I have added the jar files to the /libs folder (and not to a new /lib folder). I get the following error: Dx trouble processing "javax/xml/namespace/QName.class": Ill-advised or mistaken usage of a core class (java.* or javax.*) when not building a core library. I am NOT using Maven though, and all the answers by others seem to make use of Maven. Android version - 4.1.2 API level 16 Eclipse - Java EE Juno Any suggestions on how I can solve this?

• Java: IDE working well with Maven War overlays

  We have a Java EE 6 web application which is fully mavenized, and we use the Maven "war overlay" facility to add customer specific files, and which currently runs in Glassfish 3.1. We have traditionally used Eclipse for development, but I have found that the combination of Maven processing and War deployments may not be optimal in terms of deployment times, and that the mavenization allows us to use any IDE with good Maven support. Therefore is Eclipse the best bet for our particular scenario (maven war overlays - glassfish, and debugging it) or is e.g. Netbeans or IntelliJ better? Please, back opinions with actual experiences, thanks.

  Hi All, I am working on struts2. I have an interceptor that executes before my action claas. Now when I submit on a jsp page control goes to interceptor and after some processing there the control goes to action class. This complete flow is running well. But I found two things – 1) Control does not go to action-validation.xml before going to action class. 2) Its not getting the values of textfield or etc that uses has entered into jsp page before submitting.   Hi, I am working on a J2ME app which has dynamically generated Lists. Items on this list may be consequently selected, and the selection processed within the commandAction block. Is there a way to have the IDs of variables populating the List (from a remote database) included in the List item definition as in: this.append("A", null); this.append("B", null); or: String[] arrayOfValues = {"A", "B"}; new List("Menu", List.IMPLICIT, arrayOfValues, null); such that when an item is selected, perhaps A, I can also have its database ID for perhaps further processing.   I'm attempting to use ImageMagick along w/ Paperclip to handle the images on my rails app. The problem is whenever I try to upload an image I get the following in the terminal: [paperclip] An error was received while processing: #<Paperclip::NotIdentifiedByImageMagickError: /var/folders/go/goZ833AaFaqyvv5RnLqQmE+++TM/-Tmp-/stream20110107-6356-1xfs9j1-0.jpg is not recognized by the 'identify' command.> I have added the following to my environments/development.rb file: Paperclip.options[:command_path] = "/usr/local/bin" If I try to interact w/ ImageMagick in the terminal by using "convert" or something similar I get: dyld: Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libltdl.7.dylib Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/convert Reason: Incompatible library version: convert requires version 10.0.0 or later, but libltdl.7.dylib provides version 9.0.0 Trace/BPT trap I've already tried updating everything w/ port but the problem still persists. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

• How do we achieve "substring-match" under O(n) time?

  I have an assignment that requires reading a huge file of random inputs, for example: Adana Izmir Adnan Menderes Apt Addis Ababa Aden ADIYAMAN ALDAN Amman Marka Intl Airport Adak Island Adelaide Airport ANURADHAPURA Kodiak Apt DALLAS/ADDISON Ardabil ANDREWS AFB etc.. If I specify a search term, the program is supposed to find the lines whereby a substring occurs. For example, if the search term is "uradha", the program is supposed to show ANURADHAPURA. If the search term is "airport", the program is supposed to show Amman Marka Intl Airport, Adelaide Airport A quote from the assignment specs: "You are to program this application taking efficiency into account as though large amounts of data and processing is involved.." I could easily achieve this functionality using a loop but the performance would be O(n). I was thinking of using a trie but it seems to only work if the substring starts from index 0. I was wondering what solutions are there which gives a performance better than O(n)?

• How do I get callgrind to dump source line information?

  I'm trying to profile a shared library on GNU/Linux which does real-time audio processing, so performance is important. I run another program which hooks it up to the audio input and output of my system, and profile that with callgrind. Looking at the results in KCacheGrind, I get great information about what functions are taking up most of my time. However, it won't let me look at the line by line information, and instead says I need to compile it with debugging symbols and run the profiling again. The program which I am profiling is not compiled with debug symbols, but the library is. And I know this, because interestingly, source code annotations for cachegrind work fine. When I run callgrind, it says the default is to dump source line information, but it just isn't doing that. Is there some way I could force it to, or figure out what's stopping it?

  I am in the process of designing a system where i need to keep on trying to connect to MQ server unitl i get a connection. By default if the MQ is not availlble it will thorugh exception. How can call the same method again and again until i get the connection. I know i can use recursion, is there any better way to do it . Becuase i would like to avoid infinite loops. I also want to wait the the furthere processing until i get connection. I am using .net 2.0 with C#. It is window Service application.

  I've successfully completed light weight migration on my core data model. My custom entity Vehicle received a new property 'tirePressure' which is an optional property of type double with the default value 0.00. When 'old' Vehicles are fetched from the store (Vehicles that were created before the migration took place) the value for their 'tirePressure' property is nil. (Is that expected behavior?) So I thought: "No problem, I'll just do this in the Vehicle class:" - (void)awakeFromFetch { [super awakeFromFetch]; if (nil == self.tirePressure) { [self willChangeValueForKey:@"tirePressure"]; self.tirePressure = [NSNumber numberWithDouble:0.0]; [self didChangeValueForKey:@"tirePressure"]; } } Since "change processing is explicitly disabled around" awakeFromFetch I thought the calls to willChangeValueForKey and didChangeValueForKey would mark 'tirePresure' as dirty. But they don't. Every time these Vehicles are fetched from the store 'tirePressure' continues to be nil despite having saved the context.

  A lot of people know that it is important to use parameterized queries to prevent sql injection attacks. Parameterized queries are also much faster in sqlite and oracle when doing online transaction processing because the query optimizer doesn't have to reparse every parameterized sql statement before executing. I've seen sqlite becoming 3 times faster when you use parameterized queries, oracle can become 10 times faster when you use parameterized queries in some extreme cases with a lot of concurrency. How about other db's like mysql, ms sql, db2 and postgresql? Is there an equal difference in performance between parameterized queries and literal queries?

The difference with the usual case, when GIL lock the interpreter, is that now you don't need the interpreter to evaluate c_module.f because it is compiled. So the question is: in this case the processing is really parallel?

• Avoid hourglass mouse cursor when calling a web-service?

  I don't know if this is a general web-services issue or just my specific scenario, which is a WPF application with a DispatcherTimer calling a web-service method. Whenever the timer is called, the mouse cursor automatically changes to an hourglass cursor. The processing of the call is very short and happens every 3 seconds, so the user experience is that every 3 seconds the mouse filckers as an hourglass for a split-second and then goes back to the normal cursor representation. How can I avoid this inconvenience? Thanks.

• How does Task Parallel Library scale on a terminal server or in a web application?

  I understand that the TPL uses work-stealing queues for its tasks when I execute things like Parallel.For and similar constructs. If I understand this correctly, the construct will spin up a number of tasks, where each will start processing items. If one of the tasks complete their allotted items, it will start stealing items from the other tasks which hasn't yet completed theirs. This solves the problem where items 1-100 are cheap to process and items 101-200 are costly, and one of the two tasks would just sit idle until the other completed. (I know this is a simplified exaplanation.) However, how will this scale on a terminal server or in a web application (assuming we use TPL in code that would run in the web app)? Can we risk saturating the CPUs with tasks just because there are N instances of our application running side by side? Is there any information on this topic that I should read? I've yet to find anything in particular, but that doesn't mean there is none.

  ive a sever running TIdTCPServer, and Client Using Web Browser (or any other software) to Communicate, i dunno the protocol, but what im trying to do is to Send The Data between the client and another Connection (Both Connected to the same TIdTCPServer) for example the data sent by the first client is transmitted to the second client, and the data sent by the second client is transmitted to the first client, like a proxy (i cant really use a proxy server since its just this one condition) and the TIdTCPServer should still be receiving other clients and processing their data. i stumbled upon the first line of code, since TIdContext.Connection.Socket.ReadLn requires a Delimiter, and the Client's Protocol is unknown to the server. any ideas? thanks.

• How to block non-browser clients from submitting a request?

  I want to block non-browser clients from accessing certain pages / successfully making a request. The website content is served to authenticated users. What happens is that our user gives his credentials to our website to 3rd party - it can be another website or a mobile application - that performs requests on his behalf. Say there is a form that the user fills out and sends a message. Can I protect this form so that the server processing the submission can tell whether the user has submitted it directly from the browser or not? I don't want to use CAPTCHA for usability reasons. Can I do it with some javascript?
