  Since it was first released, Exadata Storage Server software has been releasing patch releases like every software on the planet. Storage administrators would have to do this, but by some weird tradition, no matter what level of technology, if it says "Oracle" in it, IT Managers will immediately associate this with a task for the DBA. Not the case, but if it falls onto a DBA lap, fear no evil.The last patch released for Exadata Cells, is a true master piece in patching technology. This sentence is not mine, it's from both the customer and the partner that witnessed how 3 Exadata Cells where patch in less than 4 hours, after 12 months of without a single upgrade.The patch manager that takes care of everything will patch not only the software but also the firmware and the operating system. And you know it will all work out because back in the lab everything was already tested.All you have to do is stare at the 3 Sun ILOM Windows from the 3 cells and watch as they boot and reboot, patch and fix to the latest versions all layers of the storage machines.   So the recent release of OEPE 11.1.1.7 has the ADF community buzzing.   In addition to reading the product manager's blog entry on the new release... http://blogs.oracle.com/gstachni/2011/02/oracle_enterprise_pack_for_ecl_3.html ...it's important to realize what this support entails now and in the future.    This first step, of supporting ADF Faces tags, is not prelude to *complete* ADF support in OEPE.  Rather, the aim of the Eclipse support is to provide tools for the MVC (Model-View-Controller) parts of the ADF runtime stack.   This means that we plan to support ADFm and ADFc as well in the future, but not the entire ADF stack (ADF BC, etc).    Hope this gives people an idea of what to expect, and we look forward to your feedback in the forums! • Java JRE 7 Certified with Oracle E-Business Suite

  Java Runtime Environment 7u10 (a.k.a. JRE 1.7.0_10 build 18) and later updates on the JRE 7 codeline are now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12 Windows-based desktop clients. What's needed to enable EBS environments for JRE 7? EBS customers should ensure that they are running JRE 7u10, at minimum, on Windows desktop clients. Of the compatibility issues identified with JRE 7, the most critical is an issue that prevents E-Business Suite Forms-based products from launching on Windows desktops that are running JRE 7.  Customers can prevent this issue -- and all other JRE 7 compatibility issues -- by ensuring that they have applied the latest certified patches documented for JRE 7 configurations to their EBS application tier servers.  These are summarized here for convenience. If the requirements change over time, please check the Notes for the authoritative list of patches: Apply Forms patch 14615390 to EBS 11i environments (Note 125767.1) Apply Forms patch 14614795 to EBS 12.0 and 12.1 environments (Note 437878.1) These patches are compatible with JRE 6 and 7, production ready, and fully-tested with the E-Business Suite.  These patches may be applied immediately to all E-Business Suite environments. No need to worry -- it's fixed.  To recap: JRE releases 1.6.0_18 through 1.6.0_22 had issues with mismanaging session cookies that affected some users in some circumstances. The fix for those issues was first included in JRE 1.6.0_23. These fixes will carry forward and continue to be fixed in all future JRE releases on the JRE 6 and 7 codelines.  In other words, if you wish to avoid the mismanaged session cookie issue, you should apply any release after JRE 1.6.0_22 on the JRE 6 codeline, and JRE 7u10 and later JRE 7 codeline updates. All JRE 6 and 7 releases are certified with EBS upon release Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and later updates on the 1.6 codeline, and from JRE 7u10 and later updates on the JRE 7 codeline.  We test all new JRE 1.6 and JRE 7 releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all new JRE 1.6 and 7 releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team.  You do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE 1.6 or JRE 7 releases to your EBS users' desktops. Implications of Java 6 End of Public Updates for EBS Users The Support Roadmap for Oracle Java is published here: Oracle Java SE Support Roadmap The latest updates to that page (as of Sept. 19, 2012) state (emphasis added): Java SE 6 End of Public Updates Notice After February 2013, Oracle will no longer post updates of Java SE 6 to its public download sites. Existing Java SE 6 downloads already posted as of February 2013 will remain accessible in the Java Archive on Oracle Technology Network. Developers and end-users are encouraged to update to more recent Java SE versions that remain available for public download. For enterprise customers, who need continued access to critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for Java SE 6 or older versions, long term support is available through Oracle Java SE Support . What does this mean for Oracle E-Business Suite users? EBS users fall under the category of "enterprise users" above.  Java is an integral part of the Oracle E-Business Suite technology stack, so EBS users will continue to receive Java SE 6 updates after February 2013. In other words, nothing will change for EBS users after February 2013.  EBS users will continue to receive critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for Java SE 6. These Java SE 6 updates will be made available to EBS users for the Extended Support periods documented in the Oracle Lifetime Support policy document for Oracle Applications (PDF): EBS 11i Extended Support ends November 2013 EBS 12.0 Extended Support ends January 2015 EBS 12.1 Extended Support ends December 2018 Will EBS users be forced to upgrade to JRE 7 for Windows desktop clients? No. This upgrade is highly recommended but currently remains optional. JRE 6 will be available to Windows users to run with EBS for the duration of your respective EBS Extended Support period.  Updates will be delivered via My Oracle Support, where you can continue to receive critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for JRE 6 desktop clients.  Coexistence of JRE 6 and JRE 7 on Windows desktops The upgrade to JRE 7 is highly recommended for EBS users, but some users may need to run both JRE 6 and 7 on their Windows desktops for reasons unrelated to the E-Business Suite. Most EBS configurations with IE and Firefox use non-static versioning by default. JRE 7 will be invoked instead of JRE 6 if both are installed on a Windows desktop. For more details, see "Appendix B: Static vs. Non-static Versioning and Set Up Options" in Notes 290801.1 and 393931.1. Applying Updates to JRE 6 and JRE 7 to Windows desktops Auto-update will keep JRE 7 up-to-date for Windows users with JRE 7 installed. Auto-update will only keep JRE 7 up-to-date for Windows users with both JRE 6 and 7 installed.  JRE 6 users are strongly encouraged to apply the latest Critical Patch Updates as soon as possible after each release. What will Mac users need? Oracle will provide updates to JRE 7 for Mac OS X users. EBS users running Macs will need to upgrade to JRE 7 to receive JRE updates. The certification of Oracle E-Business Suite with JRE 7 for Mac-based desktop clients accessing EBS Forms-based content is underway. Mac users waiting for that certification may find this article useful: How to Reenable Apple Java 6 Plug-in for Mac EBS Users Will EBS users be forced to upgrade to JDK 7 for EBS application tier servers? No. This upgrade will be highly recommended but will be optional for EBS application tier servers running on Windows, Linux, and Solaris.  You can choose to remain on JDK 6 for the duration of your respective EBS Extended Support period.  If you remain on JDK 6, you will continue to receive critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for JDK 6. The certification of Oracle E-Business Suite with JDK 7 for EBS application tier servers on Windows, Linux, and Solaris as well as other platforms such as IBM AIX and HP-UX is planned.  Customers running platforms other than Windows, Linux, and Solaris should refer to their Java vendors's sites for more information about their support policies. Can anyone help with this? Below is what I have: What I have is the following: /dev/sda apple partitions /boot ext3 (root) ext3 swap side notes: From what I understand, I should have had my boot partition as fat32/hfs+... I can always switch it or copy the kernel to the apple EFI partition. (I tried creating /boot as an hfs+ partition during installation but was unable. Even after installing hfsprogs, although I was able to create an hfs+ partition in gparted I couldn't use the partition as /boot in ubiquity).

  In my latest ASP.NET project, I refresh the sample data using an Excel spreadsheet from the client. After upgrading to Windows Server 2008 R2, I suddenly discovered this error: The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine. The error message is totally bogus! The problem is that I’m running IIS on a 64-bit machine and the ol’ OLEDB thingy just isn’t up with the times. • A Graduate&rsquo;s Journey at Oracle &ndash; Bhaskar Ghosh From Oracle India

  I am Bhaskar Ghosh, and I work as an Applications Engineer with Oracle. Well, it was three years ago when my journey with one of the largest software companies started. It was a fine day and a decisive moment, when I was placed in Oracle as a campus recruit from College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University, Chennai! I always thought of looking back, the time that helped me learn beyond my boundaries, think broader and ahead, and grow – technically, professionally and personally. Hmmn! Let me recall the eventful moments once again. My first day as an intern at Oracle started in late 2007. I met one of the Oracle Managers at the Oracle Campus in Hyderabad and on the same day I also met another Oracle employee who was to later to become my first manager. I was charged and thrilled with the environment and the wonderful people around me! I was joined by two other interns, who also had a Masters in Computer Applications. We formed a very friendly group with all the interns and the new hires, and shared our excitement and learning. Myself and one of the other Graduates started working on a very interesting project on Semantic technology. We finally had our names added as co-developers for this very project. This phase of five months was the time and we learnt tremendously and worked very hard, partly because we had to travel back and forth to our colleges to submit reports and present for the Masters in Computer Applications final year project reviews. After completing my MCA, I joined as a full-time employee in 2008. During the next year, we worked on interesting and bleeding edge technologies - OWL, RDF, SPARQL, Visualization, J2EE, Social Web features, Semantic Web technologies, Web Services and many more! We developed cool, rich internet and desktop applications. Little did I know at that time, that this learning would help me tremendously for my the next project in Oracle. The following year saw me being assigned a role in a different project that my other team members were working on for the last two years. It took me two months to understand and get into a flow with this new task. I was fortunate that this phase helped me enhance my inter-personal and communication skills, as much as it helped me grow professionally with better ability to tackle multiple priorities and switch between tasks based on the team’s requirements. I was made the POC for all communications with our team and other product teams. I personally feel that this time enhanced me tremendously in technologies like Oracle Forms, J2EE, and Java and Web Services. The last six months, saw myself becoming an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer member, and continuing my higher education International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad. Oracle supports its employees becoming members of professional bodies, and higher studies are supported by management, I think it is tremendously helpful in the professional and technical growth of the employees. Last three months, I have been working on great and useful enhancements to our product. Ah beautiful! All these years, there have been other moments and events of fun that are too worth mentioning. Clubs and groups at Oracle such as Employee Club, Oracle Volunteers, Football Club, etc. have always kept on organizing numerous events and competitions, full of fun and entertainment. I really enjoyed participating, even if it was small, in the intra-Oracle football tourney, Oracle Volunteer Days, OraFora, OraOvations, and a few more. Those ‘Seasons of Sharing’, those ‘Blood Donation camps’, those ‘Diwali and Christmas gifts and events’, those ‘fun events at the annual function called OraOvations’, those ‘books and cycle stalls’, and those so many other things… It only fills my mind with pleasure. The last three years have been very eventful:they have been full of learning and growth, and under the very able and encouraging guidance of my manager. I have got the opportunity to know about and/or interact with many wonderful personalities, and learn from them, here at Oracle. The environment, the people, and the fellow developers have been so friendly, and always ever ready to help, when we were in doubt.. I really love the big office space, and the flexible timings, and the caring people around. I look forward to a beautiful, learning and motivating journey with Oracle.

  Ma délelott a HOUG BI/DW és DB szakmai napján tartottam egy eloadást arról, hogyan kellene egy DBA-nak dolgoznia manapság. A lényeg az volt, hogy az üzlet legjobb kiszolgálása érdekében célszeru a felhasználók és az alkalmazás oldaláról megközelíteni a kérdést. Azaz monitorozzuk a felhasználók elégedettségét, majd ha valami nem stimmel fúrjunk le alsóbb rétegekbe (MW, DB, OS, HW, Storage, Network), és ott folytassuk a diagnosztikát. Meglepetésemre az eloadást követoen a DB szakosztály vezetoje úgy kommentálta az eloadást, hogy ez még utópisztikus. Ma délután egy a hallgatók között ülo üzemeltetési igazgató e-mail-ben jelezte, hogy ezzel o sem ért egyet, mert ok már most is így üzemeltetnek, még ha nem is minden elemében a Grid Control-t használják. És mi sem bizonyítja jobban, hogy ez az üzemeltetési model nem utópia, mint hogy az Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g tökéletes támogatást ad minderre. • Defining the Features we would like to see

  OK, now that we have a very rough idea of what we are building, let’s get a list of the top features that this application needs to allow us to do.  In this next list we are not prioritizing them yet, just getting on paper the high level backlog of items that this system must do. Add a new task to my work queue Change the status of the task Print a hard copy of the task list by day for my records Log a phone conversation A manager should be able to assign tasks to another user How do we login? Change the Covey roles per user Manage the statuses used Manage the Covey quadrants Can we make this available on the following user interfaces? Windows Desktop Web Browser Sliverlight (WPF) Excel Add-in Outlook Add-in Android Devices iPhone Devices Windows Mobile Devices Blackberry Devices While this looks like a simple spread sheet, it can get pretty complex and busy quickly.  Next time we will work on making this into a Product Backlog and prioritizing the features we would like to see.

• RT3290 Bluetooth not pairing in Ubuntu 14.04

  I recently followed the instructions listed in the following link to get my RT3290 bluetooth working on my laptop. These instructions have yielded the most progress I have had in the year I have had this laptop. My machine now sees my bluetooth, I can scan for and see devices, and other devices and see my laptop, but pairing continually fails. • OSB/OSR/OER in One Domain - QName violates loader constraints

  For demos, testing and prototyping, I wanted a single domain which contained three servers:OSB - Oracle Service BusOSR - Oracle Service RegistryOER - Oracle Enterprise Repository These three can work together to help with service governance in an enterprise.  When building out the domain, I found errors in the OSR server due to some conflicting classes from the OSB.  This wouldn't be an issue if each server was given a unique classpath setting with the node manager, but I was having the node manager use the standard startup scripts. • Low disk space: home/user folder occupies 94GB

  I am low on disk space and when I check the Disk Usage analyzer (using gksudo baobab) it indicates that my home/teddy folder is using 94GB, but when I browse through its contents I can only account for about 1gb of that usage. I've tried sudo apt-get clean and deleting the cached package files from Synaptic Package Manager, emptied trash but that has not changed the amount of free space I have. It seems similar to this problem But using the root disk usage analyzer has not given any insight into what is consuming so much space. Any ideas?

It was also decided to have existing AIX UAT DB landscape covered and EM 12c DBaaS solution being platform agnostic supported this model well. Automation and Optimization phase provided the necessary Agility, Self-Service and efficiency and this was made possible via EM 12c DBaaS. EM 12c DBaaS Self-Service/SSA Portal was setup with required zones, quotas, service templates, charge plan defined. There were 2 zones implemented - Exadata zone  primarily for UAT and benchmark testing for databases running on Exadata platform and second zone was for AIX setup to cover other databases those running on AIX. Metering and Chargeback/Showback capabilities provided business and IT the framework for cloud optimization and also visibility into cloud usage. EM 12c DBaaS solution helped reduce UAT database provisioning time from roughly 3 days down to 3 hours and this timing also includes provisioning time for database with production scale data (ranging from 250 G to 2 TB of data) - And it's not just about time to provision,  this initiative has enabled an agile, efficient and transparent UAT environment where end users are empowered with real control of cloud resources and IT's role is shifted as enabler of strategic services instead of being administrator of all user requests. INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS and Value Character Maximum Length -1 I often see the value -1 in the CHARACTER_MAXIMUM_LENGTH column of INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS table.
