  • Are bad backlinks causing thousands of 404 and 410 errors in webmaster tools?

    Our webmaster tools account is showing 250.000 errors related with weird links from other sites. These URLs are comming mostly from non existent sites or are being generated directly by our website. Here some examples of these URLs: oursite.com/&q=videos+caseros+sexo+pornos+gratis&sa=X&ei=R638T8eTO8WphAfF2vG8Bg&ved=0CCAQFjAC%2F%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F4%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F4%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F4%2Fpage%2F5%2Fpage%2F4/page/3 Our site is a popular spanish adult site, yet we don´t have keywords which are being mentioned in this URL. Apparently this link comes from our site. Some more examples: oursite.com/&q=losmejoresvideosporno&sa=X&ei=U__8T-BnqK7RBdjmhYsH&ved=0CBUQFjAA%2F%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F4%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F3/page/4 Once again: not our queries, not out URLs. oursite/tag/tetonas We think that it might be other site, which is having a policy of extremely bad SEO based on other sites branding and keywords usage: thirdsite/buscador/tetonas-oursite The question is: if other sites are generating these URLs, how can we prevent this? Why the tag is being generated if no link was added to the other site? What should we do with these errors? 301? 410 gone? I have read all similar Q&A here but none of them seems to solve our problem. It is not likely to be a bad ad (Inspected them all). Maybe some all content which google decided to recrawl suddenly? Maybe third parties bad SEO policy? Maybe all of them?

  • Google Fetch issue

    When I do a Google fetch on any of my webpages the results are all the same (below). I'm not a programmer but I'm pretty sure this is not correct. Out of all the fetches I have done only one was different and the content length was 6x below and showed meta tags etc. Maybe this explains other issues I've been having with the site: a drop in indexed pages. Meta tag analyzer says I have no title tag, meta tags or description even though I do it on all pages. I had an SEO team working on the site and they were stumped by why pages were not getting indexed. So they figure it was some type of code error. Are they right? And most of my 44 errors have: Missing: Author Missing: entry-title Missing: updated There seems to be no CLEAR explanation of these errors. It is either because these classes exist without their nested classes, or they are expected to exist because of something else, possibly itemscope or itemtype='' The Question: How do you specify with richsnippets that the page is about a location and there is no human author?

  • Redirect pages to fix crawl errors

    Google is giving me a crawl error for pages that I have removed like www.mysite.com/mypage.html. I want to redirect this pages to the new page www.mysite.com/mysite/mypage. I tried to do that by using .htaccess but instead of fixing the problem, the crawl pages increased and a new crawl came www.mysite.com/www.mysite.com.   • Can mass different log-in pages result in SEO duplicate and/or low quality punishments?

    I have internal pages that rely on an external API which I would like to build upon user request. Two options I thought about: Make lots of 'thin' pages that specifies that if you want content about X, you need to log-in, and then the page will be built. Pros: user understands what he'll get when logging in. Cons: SEO implications of such a solution due to the mass 'low quality' and 'cross-sites duplicate content' Make them all redirect to ONE same generic log-in page. Pros: No duplicate low quality content. Cons: Lots of internal links to the same log-in page. Which would you recommend?

  • How can I make my binary file is served as binary, not text when user choose "Save Linked File As..." in Safari?

    I'm serving a binary file (.IPA) with Ubuntu/Apache 2.2. When I have chosen Save Linked File As... in Safari, it says it's text file. And it guides me to add .txt extension. However it does not add any extra extension when I download it just clicking link. I added line AddType application/octet-stream .ipa in apache configuration file. I don't know what's wrong with this. Is this a bug of Safari or my misconfiguration? (1) If it caused by bug, how can I avoid this? (2) Or if it caused by misconfiguration, what should I do?

    I'm working with a CMS that allows me to post content in to multiple categories. So, I have this link: www.site.com/category/green-cars Here are the GREEN cars TITLE: A Big green car INTRO: this is a great big green car. But then I have this link: www.site.com/category/big-cars Here are the BIG cars TITLE: A Big green car INTRO: this is a great big green car. So essentially - for every item of content, header and the intro sentence is the same regardless of the category the item appears in. Will a search engine penalise the site for having the same content in this way? I've looked at canonical links, but I don't think this is relevant here. All my content points to the same page - but the content may appear in multiple categories first. Or am I worrying about nothing? Thanks.

    I recently bought a new address for my Blogger blog, from yannbane.blogspot.com to www.yannbane.com. However, www.yannbane.com addresses do not appear when they are searched for! Is this natural? How much time will it take for Google to update its index? yannbane.blogspot.com 301's to www.yannbane.com. Both are added to my Webmaster Tools account, but it shows no data for www.yannbane.com (strangely). And, finally, is there something I could do to speed up the process?

    Really don't see them much anymore, but here's an example of what I mean: From comments: These are "high pressure" sales pages, design to overload the user with information, sell them on the belief that what they're buying is what they need, normally have a lot of testimonials, highlighted text, etc. The pages I'm talking about are not user friendly, they're aggressive sales pitches designed to target users wanting to belief the webpage they just landed on will solve there problems for an "affordable" price. Here's an example: www_landingpagecashmachine_com (remove the underscores, since I'm attempting to avoid linking to a site like that...) Bonus points: if you're able to tell me the name of the guy/company that popularized these types of pages; recall hearing about his company years ago, after he died in a crash while racing on a track with his Ferrari club on the west coast of the US. (Update: Appears Corey Rudl was the guy's name, and his company was called "The Internet Marketing Center." Even with that info, I've still been unable to find the name for these type of pages.)

    Hey, I am about to purchase a domain name for a bit of money. I do not personally know the person who I am purchasing the domain name from, we have only chatted via email. The proposed process for the transfer is: The owner of the domain lowest the domain name security and emails me the domain password, I request the transfer After the request, I transfer the money via PayPal When the money has been cleared the current domain name owner confirms the transfer via the link that he receives in that email I wait for it to be transferred. The domain is currently registered with DirectNIC - http://www.directnic.com/ Is this the best practice? Seeing I am paying a bit of money for this domain name, I am worried that after the money has been cleared that I won't see the domain name or hear from the current domain name owner again. Is there a 'domain governing body' which I can report to if this is the case? Is the proposed transfer process the best solution? Any advice would be awesome. Thanks! Jack

    Let's say I have a directory that has a 403 forbidden error for all of the content in it, however a few of the images in the subdirectoies of the main diretory do NOT have a 403 forbidden error. Will this fact affect my ranking? For example: test.com/system/ (HAS 403 ERROR FOR ALL FILES) - test.com/system/pie/ (HAS 403 ERROR FOR ALL FILES) - test.com/system/pie/image.png (DOES NOT HAVE A 403 ERROR, AND THIS IMAGE IS EMBEDED ON A PAGE ON test.com e.g(test.com/pie/)) This sort of pattern repeats for about 10 different images. This directory is like a secret "system", however all of the content on the main site (test.com) is still accessible to everyone from the public.

    I am currently trying to make yoast's link cloaking script ( Yoast.com script manual // Github Script files ) work together with the Wordpress plugin Advanced Custom Fields. The script fetches 2 values (redirect id, redirect url) via GET and then redirects to this particular URL which is defined in a .txt file called redirects.txt I would like to change the script, so that I can define both the id and redirection URL via custom fields on each post in my WP dashboard.. I would be really happy if someone could help me to code something that does the same as the script above but without using a redirects.txt file to save the values but furthermore gets those values from custom fields.   • Configuring A Subdomain (cPanel) - www works, subdomain on it's own doesn't

    I've created a sub domain on my website using cPanel at test.mydomain.com, and this created a folder in my main 'www' directory called test. In this folder is a folder called cgi-bin, and it seems to redirect the page to say "It works!", but when I upload my own index.html file to the test directory it keeps showing http://test.mydomain.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi instead of the index file. If I go to www.test.mydomain.com then it works OK. How do I host my content at the sub domain? It's my first time setting one up so I'm a bit lost.

  • Looking for a modern payment processor which accepts adult sites

    I love how easy authorize.net is to use, but they don't accept adult sites. I am lanching an adult site soon but I can't find any good credit card processors I can use. Most sites use CCbill or Epoch but they are both terrible since the customer is redirected to their external site which also has an ancient 1990's look. It's not like authorize.net's API that you can query and get the result back as to whether the payment went through or not. This makes authorize.net blend seamlessly with the product. But since adult sites are against their TOS and also paypals, what is a good alternative? I am looking for one that won't redirect the user from my site, is big enough to be reliable and trustworthy and has fairly low rates. Any help is appreciated!

    I changed the structure of my URLs. The pages are already indexed by Google and have the following structure: http://mypage.com/myfolder/page.apsx The new structure is: http://mypage.com/page.aspx Now all URLs that Google knows are wrong. How can I tell Google to re-index and that the structure has changed? Internally I redirect in ASP.NET when the URL contains myfolder by I want Google to update the URLs. Thanks for the answers - I use IIS 6 and I do not know how to configure a redirect of all pages that contains the folder to page one folder below. So I did the trick in the Begin_Request method and did a Context.Response.Redirect. This is no 301 redirect, only a redirect done with ASP.NET via code. Will this also do the trick so that Google notices that the URL /folder/page1.aspx now is redirected to /page1.aspx?

  • foobar.com working, but www.foobar.com not working?

    I am setting up a web site for a client. She is using GoDaddy for domain registration, and a hosting company I have never used before. After setting up the nameservers on GoDaddy's side, the address foobar.com (for example) is correctly directing to the new site. However, the address www.foobar.com is redirecting to a 404 page on the hosting company's side. I've been dealing with customer service on the hosting side, and they have told me various things including wait for DNS propagation (which has obviously happened since the 404 page is on their side), and to make sure that the nameservers on GoDaddy's side were entered in lower case instead of upper case (which I know doesn't matter since nameservers are case insensitive). I think I'm getting the runaround from the hosting company, but the client had signed up with them before I came to the project, so if possible I'd like to resolve this issue with them before we start treating it as a loss. Does anybody know what could cause foobar.com to resolve correctly but www.foobar.com to not resolve? How would I best be able to suggest a fix to this through the technical support channels of a hosting company?

    I'm trying to redirect url's in my /joomla/ folder containing "rsform" to the same url but except for /joomla/ /formulieren/. However my tried .htaccess rewrite doesn't work. I tried: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} rsform RewriteRule ^(.+)$ http://watervriendengeleen.nl/joomla/ [L,R=301] And other URL related rewrites like Redirect /joomla/index.php?option=com_rsform&formId=12&Itemid=99999 http://sitename.com/formulieren/index.php?option=com_rsform&formId=12&Itemid=99999 which didn't work either. Any thoughts?

  • How Google Web Starter Kit serves adaptive image for mobile?

    My website weirdly (in a good way) serves smaller images when viewed on mobile. I wanted to know what cause this? As far as I know this is not the default behaviour, so I think it must be Google Web Starter Kit's doing.Here is the debug information when debugging on device. All images became 231 B size no matter how large it actually is. (On desktop debugging the size varies.) I tried using Google Web Starter Kit (https://github.com/google/web-starter-kit) recently. The tools in it are made of Ruby, Node.js, SASS and Gulp to help you 'build' website. Pre-build you can enjoy automatic reload because the Gulp script will watch all files for you. When build it will run various tools to minify HTML,CSS and compress images. According to this page https://developers.google.com/web/fundamentals/tools/build/build_site the gulp-imagemin was used. So I guess the imagemin is doing the mobile optimization for me? What kind of compression can serve automatically resized image on mobile? And why is the size 231 B? Is this related to my screen size?

  • SVN Checkout folder as local webroot

    I have XAMPP installed and running. I have an SVN working directory (WD) on my local that checks out from the repository. I set up a virtual host in xampp to point to my WD, but my browser (FF) gives me a 500 http status error: Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script. When I place a regular folder in the same location with the WD and switch names, it works fine.. Can I not use an SVN working directory as a web root folder?
