Virtual Hosts Not Working (12.10)

I'm trying to get virtual hosts up and running on my Ubuntu laptop that has 12.10 installed. I'm running Apache2, and I enabled the virtual hosting module. When I go to 12.0.0.1, I'm able to get the default page. When I go to example.local, I just get the search engine results, instead of the "hey, you're seeing this" page I set up in that directory (/var/www/example.local). I even made sure I have only one "NameVirtualHost *:80" variable active. How to disable multiple form submit (POST) in IIS

We had a major SharePoint outage a few months back because a user wedged their keyboard in such a way as to cause the Enter button to be pressed indefinitely. The user was on a customized people search page and hundreds of POSTs by the same user were submitted asynchronously, which overloaded the server. Because I work in a large organization, I am looking for a more global way to prevent this from happening. Is there a way to prevent multiple web form submissions by a common user within a short period of time within IIS? I am aware we can write javascript to disable the button after it is clicked, but we are hoping to prevent this issue from occurring on other pages where a similar possibility may exist. Update: It appears looking at the source code, the javascript is performing a document.location = url, whenever keycode 13 (Enter) is pressed. Again, we can write JS to prevent this in this location, but we also want to be able to guard against this kind of issue more generally... preferably at the IIS level.

I need to reset my password. I have followed these steps: How do I reset a lost Administrative(root) password? However, then I go to "root" or "netroot" recovery options, it tells me: Give root password for maintenance (or type Control-D to continue) Clearly, I do not know the root password. If I type Control-D, I return to the list of options. From this page I read: Under chapter 'The Other Way': 4. Highlight the line that begins kernel and press 'e' to edit But in the grub configuration file I have no line that starts with 'kernel'. Only: setparams 'Ubuntu...' recordfail set gxfpayload... insmod part_msdos insmod ext2 set root=... search --no-floppy... linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38... initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.... Those are all lines in my grub. Which line should I edit? Or is there another way to reset my password?

Manually Editing iptables

I'm using CentOS. What I'm wondering is, what happens if I manually edit /etc/sysconfig/iptables and save it? Is that the definitive source? When I type iptables -L I get something that doesn't match the contents of that file. Is there a way I can just edit the chains directly without adding/removing rules one at a time? i.e. open VIM and get everything set up the way I want it and then save. Along those lines, when I do something like iptables -A INPUT , where does that go in the immediate sense? Is it not applied until I do an iptables-save? I feel like I'm just missing an a-ha moment here and I can't seem to find the answer in a search.

opening a GUID usb stick in windows 7

so I have a mac which I have files on. I put in a GUID formatted usb stick and dropped some files on to it. took the stick and plugged in to my netbook with win7. In Devices & Printers it shows up. It also appears in "safely remove hardware". no actual letter or device when i search for it in other ways. Question - how do I access the files of my GUID usb stick on my windows 7 netbook? thanks

Program to Queue Files for Copy/Move/Delete in linux?

I've search the net for Linux's answer to something like Teracopy (Windows)... but could not find anything suitable. The closest things i got are: Krusader. Mentioned in their features but indicated as 'not implemented yet'. MiniCopier. A java based app http://a.courreges.free.fr/projets/minicopier/minicopier-en.php rsync is not an option. Can someone recommend me a simple file copy tool that can queue files for copy/move/delete? Preferably if I can drag and drop from Nautilus. If something like this does not exist, can someone please tell me why? ...am I the only person that needs something like this?

Firefox 16: Setting to bookmark always to Toolbar by Shortcut?

The question sounds easy but I could not find a solution using google search. Maybe you have an idea: I am searching for the Firefox setting to bookmark always to the toolbar. If I click CTRL+D the default "Folder" is "Bookmarks Menu". I'd like to have it always "Bookmarks Toolbar", without the need of changing it every time. But using the keyboard more and more as it is just faster, this is not an option.

Why is this server redirecting to another page???

I am building a site for a client. For a reason unknown to me www.domain.com forwards to www.domain.com/directory/home.html. If i type www.domain.com/index.php it works correctly. I have checked .htaccess there was nothing there, so I set the index to index.php which works fine in every directory other than the root directory. I have root access and have checked the httpd.conf (did a search in VI for the document that I was being redirected to) and anything else I could think of. Where should I look next? The server is a VPS running CentOS 5.5 with multiple domains, has CPanel WHM 11 for root access and CPanel X installed for each domain.

Arguments for discouraging satellite sites?

I am working with a client who's read about satellite sites on a SEP book and has been building hundreds of keyword reach domains (buytoyotacorona1989cheap.com, brandnewsuvinred.com) with specific content about such domains. They all link to a main domain (CompanyName.com) where most of the information is either repeated(from other sites) or new. I told him to drop all the other domains and only focus on building good content for the main site as it is too difficult to maintain so many websites, plus they might look like link farms to Google. He told me to make a Google search for "Buy Toyota cheap " and two of his websites were listed among top 10. So it's seem to be doing some good, but I get the feeling that what he is doing is wrong. What other arguments are there to discourage this practice? or is he doing the right thing? My arguments have helped him to decide go down from hundreds to close to one hundred (because cost of maintainance) but I believe he should only have one or two sites. PS: The business is not actually about cars.

What differences should I know? I just upgraded to 13.10 from 10.10 [on hold]

I ran Ubuntu 10.10 for a long time because I liked the menu style. The change in GUI with the upgrades drove me nuts but I finally gave in and downloaded Saucy Salamander 13.10 x64. It's a fresh install running as a virtual machine guest in VMWare Workstation 9 on a Windows 7 x64 host. Well it looks like all those icons are still there on the side which I would be OK with if there were some way to bring back my menus. I have no organized way of accessing things now, or do I? That is the purpose for this question, maybe there is some functionality I just can't find but is there. Also all my fine tuning was gone. I used to be able to change DPI but that's gone. I went ahead and installed Unity Tweak Tool via sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool but I couldn't find an icon for it after I installed it.. because again no menu. So I did a search for it and found it there. I've changed the font and which side the window buttons appear on which is good enough for now. Anyway... any suggestions you may have for me I'm game. I'm a Windows 7 user primarily but I use Ubuntu every once in a while. I really liked the old style where everything was categorized like for Applications there was Accessories, Games, Graphics, Internet, Office, Sound & Video, Wine.

Migrate from MySQL to PostgreSQL on Linux (Kubuntu)

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... Trying to migrate a database from MySQL to PostgreSQL. All the documentation I have read covers, in great detail, how to migrate the structure. I have found very little documentation on migrating the data. The schema has 13 tables (which have been migrated successfully) and 9 GB of data. MySQL version: 5.1.x PostgreSQL version: 8.4.x I want to use the R programming language to analyze the data using SQL select statements; PostgreSQL has PL/R, but MySQL has nothing (as far as I can tell). A New Hope Create the database location (/var has insufficient space; also dislike having the PostgreSQL version number everywhere -- upgrading would break scripts!): sudo mkdir -p /home/postgres/main sudo cp -Rp /var/lib/postgresql/8.4/main /home/postgres sudo chown -R postgres.postgres /home/postgres sudo chmod -R 700 /home/postgres sudo usermod -d /home/postgres/ postgres All good to here. Next, restart the server and configure the database using these installation instructions: sudo apt-get install postgresql pgadmin3 sudo /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.4 stop sudo vi /etc/postgresql/8.4/main/postgresql.conf Change data_directory to /home/postgres/main sudo /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.4 start sudo -u postgres psql postgres \password postgres sudo -u postgres createdb climate pgadmin3 Use pgadmin3 to configure the database and create a schema. How do I ensure that adding new rows in PostgreSQL will start enumerating from the index of the last row inserted (and not conflict with an existing primary key from the sequence)? How do you ensure the schema name comes through when transforming the data from MySQL to PostgreSQL inserts? In WPF, how do I get a command in a Control Template to bind to a property in a parent?

I am relatively new to WPF and sometimes it makes my head explode. However, I do like the power behind it, especially when used with the MVVM model. I have a control template that contains a button. I use that control template inside of a custom control. I want to add a property on the custom control that will bind to the command property of the button inside the control template. Basically, it is a combo box with a button to the right of it to allow a user to pop up a search dialog. Since this control could appear on a usercontrol multiple times, I need to be able to potentially bind each control to a different command (Searh products, search customers, etc). 403 error after adding javascript to masterpage for sharepoint.

I am attempting to add highslide-with-html.js from http://highslide.com/ to my masterpage. I am receiving a 403 forbidden error when I use the provided masterpage. I have placed it in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033. Test javascript files such as pirate.js which consists solely of alert("Arr!"); have loaded from the same directory. I have provided the code for the masterpage. How to pre-load all deployed assemblies for an AppDomain

Given an App Domain, there are many different locations that Fusion (the .Net assembly loader) will probe for a given assembly. Obviously, we take this functionality for granted and, since the probing appears to be embedded within the .Net runtime (Assembly._nLoad internal method seems to be the entry-point when Reflect-Loading - and I assume that implicit loading is probably covered by the same underlying algorithm), as developers we don't seem to be able to gain access to those search paths. My problem is that I have a component that does a lot of dynamic type resolution, and which needs to be able to ensure that all user-deployed assemblies for a given AppDomain are pre-loaded before it starts its work. Yes, it slows down startup - but the benefits we get from this component totally outweight this. The basic loading algorithm I've already written is as follows. It deep-scans a set of folders for any .dll (.exes are being excluded at the moment), and uses Assembly.LoadFrom to load the dll if it's AssemblyName cannot be found in the set of assemblies already loaded into the AppDomain (this is implemented inefficiently, but it can be optimized later): void PreLoad(IEnumerable<string> paths) { foreach(path p in paths) { PreLoad(p); } } void PreLoad(string p) { //all try/catch blocks are elided for brevity string[] files = null; files = Directory.GetFiles(p, "*.dll", SearchOption.AllDirectories); AssemblyName a = null; foreach (var s in files) { a = AssemblyName.GetAssemblyName(s); if (!AppDomain.CurrentDomain.GetAssemblies().Any( assembly => AssemblyName.ReferenceMatchesDefinition( assembly.GetName(), a))) Assembly.LoadFrom(s); } } LoadFrom is used because I've found that using Load() can lead to duplicate assemblies being loaded by Fusion if, when it probes for it, it doesn't find one loaded from where it expects to find it. So, with this in place, all I now have to do is to get a list in precedence order (highest to lowest) of the search paths that Fusion is going to be using when it searches for an assembly. Then I can simply iterate through them. The GAC is irrelevant for this, and I'm not interested in any environment-driven fixed paths that Fusion might use - only those paths that can be gleaned from the AppDomain which contain assemblies expressly deployed for the app. My first iteration of this simply used AppDomain.BaseDirectory. This works for services, form apps and console apps. It doesn't work for an Asp.Net website, however, since there are at least two main locations - the AppDomain.DynamicDirectory (where Asp.Net places it's dynamically generated page classes and any assemblies that the Aspx page code references), and then the site's Bin folder - which can be discovered from the AppDomain.SetupInformation.PrivateBinPath property. So I now have working code for the most basic types of apps now (Sql Server-hosted AppDomains are another story since the filesystem is virtualised) - but I came across an interesting issue a couple of days ago where this code simply doesn't work: the nUnit test runner. This uses both Shadow Copying (so my algorithm would need to be discovering and loading them from the shadow-copy drop folder, not from the bin folder) and it sets up the PrivateBinPath as being relative to the base directory. And of course there are loads of other hosting scenarios that I probably haven't considered; but which must be valid because otherwise Fusion would choke on loading the assemblies. I want to stop feeling around and introducing hack upon hack to accommodate these new scenarios as they crop up - what I want is, given an AppDomain and its setup information, the ability to produce this list of Folders that I should scan in order to pick up all the DLLs that are going to be loaded; regardless of how the AppDomain is setup. If Fusion can see them as all the same, then so should my code. Of course, I might have to alter the algorithm if .Net changes its internals - that's just a cross I'll have to bear. Equally, I'm happy to consider SQL Server and any other similar environments as edge-cases that remain unsupported for now. Any ideas!?

I'm trying to setup a Perl development environment on my Mac laptop and have been having a really hard time getting it working. I thought I had everything configured correctly but when I try to run a sample script it is reporting errors with the DBI module and can't access the DB. Hello all..this is driving me nuts. I have a navigation menu I would like to display based upon user roles (using.net membership) After several hours and headaches (from banging my head against the desk) I was wondering if someone can point me in the error of my ways. Overwrite archetypes in Maven

Hello again! I'm having some trouble using Maven for my archetypes and I will need to overwrite some. I launch an instruction that does an archetype:generate in an archetype already existing directory. Is there a parameter that let's me overwrite existing archetypes? I have search the maven definitve guide but it states that the only parameters accepted are: -DgroupId -DartifactId -Dversion -DpackageName -DarchetypeGroupId -DarchetypeArtifactId -DarchetypeVersion -DinteractiveMode I could just search the directory and delete the files, but this proccess is going to be done automatically (so no human involved, no brains involved) and I wouldn't like he machine deleting things around. Okay - I'm not even sure that the term is right - and I'm sure there is bound to be a term for this - but I'll do my best to explain. This is not quite a cross product here, and the order of the results are absolutely crucial. I can see similarities with Numeric bases (since the order is important as well), and I'm sure there are permutations/combinations lurking in here too. The question is - how to write an algorithm like this that'll cope with any number of sets of strings? Linq, non-Linq; I'm not fussed. Why am I doing this? Indeed, why!? In Asp.Net MVC - I want to have partial views that can be redefined for a given combination of back-end/front-end culture and language. The most basic of these would be, for a given base view View, we could have View-en-GB, View-en, View-GB, and View, in that order of precedence (recognising of course that the language/culture codes could be the same, so some combinations might be the same - a Distinct() will solve that). But I also have other views that, in themselves, have other possible combinations before culture is even taken into account (too long to go into - but the fact is, this algo will enable a whole bunch of really cool that I want to offer my developers!). I want to produce a search list of all the acceptable view names, iterate through the whole lot until the most specific match is found (governed by the order that this algo will produce these concatenations in) then serve up the resolved Partial View. The result of the search can later be cached to avoid the expense of running the algorithm all the time. I already have a really basic version of this working that just has one enumerable of strings. But this is a whole different kettle of seafood! Any help greatly appreciated.

Python Mechanize unable to avoid redirect when Post

I am trying to crawl a site using mechanize. The site provides search results in different pages. When posting to get the next set of results, something is wrong and the server redirects me to the first page, asking mechanize to update the SearchSession Cookie. I have been debugging the requests using Firefox and they look quite the same, and I am unable to find the problem. Any suggestion?
