• How can I check if an order with a given increment id already exists in magento?

  I am new to Magento. What's the proper way to check if an order with a given increment id already exists ? The obvious way: $order = Mage::getModel('sales/order')->loadByIncrementId($reservedOrderId); if ($order) { Mage::log('already have order with id ' . $reservedOrderId); return $order; } does not work, because I get a new and empty model instance back. What's the correct way in magento to see if I have no such model for that id ?

• How to fix: unrecognized selector sent to instance

  I am having a problem that may be simple to fix, but not simple for me to debug. • MVC3 DropDownListFor selected value does not reset if I set the Id

  I've read a lot of posts on here regarding the dropdown selected value issues (not showing etc etc...) but mine is the opposite problem. I want the drop down to always reset after the view is returned after a button submits the page through the controller action. So how I've structured it all works but is it possible to reset the dropdown list each time? I can't find a way to do it and I've tried a lot of ways, believe me. My View: @Model.PspSourceModel.PayAccount.PaymentProviderId <br /> @Html.DropDownListFor( x => x.PspSourceModel.PayAccount.PaymentProviderId, new SelectList(Model.PspSourceModel.PaymentProviders, "Value", "Text", "-- please select --"), "-- please select --" My Controller: // I've tried forcing the selected value id here - doesn't effect the dropdownlist still? pspVM.PspSourceModel.PayAccount.PaymentProviderId = 1; return (View(pspVM)); My Webpage shows: 1 (the id I set in the Action) dropdownlist with the id=6 or whatever value was chosen prior to submitting the form. • What can I use the Google App Engine for?

  This question possibly doesn't belong here. We'll see how the answers pan out, if this doesn't belong here please move it to where it belongs. I'm following the getting started guide for Google App Engine, and I'm seeing what it can and can't do. Basically, I'm seeing it's very similar to an MVC pattern. You create your model, then create a View that uses that Model to display information. Not only that, but it uses a controller of some kind in this fashion: application = webapp.WSGIApplication( [('/', MainPage)], debug=True) My question is, why would you use this Google App Engine if it's the same as using a number of other MVC frameworks? Is the only benefit you gain the load balancing being handled by Google automagically? What is a good example of something you would need the App Engine for? I'm trying to learn, so thanks for the discussion.

• Rails - Active Record :conditions overrides :select

  I have a fairly large model and I want to retrieve only a select set of fields for each record in order to keep the JSON string I am building small. Using :select with find works great but my key goal is to use conditional logic with an associated model. Is the only way to do this really with a lamda in a named scope? I'm dreading that perhaps unnecessarily but I'd like to understand if there is a way to make the :select work with a condition. This works: @sites = Site.find :all, :select => 'id,foo,bar' When I try this: @sites = Site.find :all, :select => 'id,foo,bar', :include => [:relatedmodel], :conditions => ["relatedmodel.type in (?)", params[:filters]] The condition works but each record includes all of the Site attributes which makes my JSON string way way too large. I know this trigger will be fired very rare and only once at the time of setup. Now I have to use that created table from triggers at many places for fetching data and I confirms it that no one make any changes in that table. i.e ReadOnly Table. I have to use this tables data along with multiple tables to join and fetch result for further queries say select * from triggertable By Using temp table select ... into #tx from triggertable join t2 join t3 and so on select a,b, c from #tx --do something select d,e,f from #tx ---do somethign --and so on --around 6-7 queries in a row in a stored procedure. By Using Views create view viewname ( select ... from triggertable join t2 join t3 and so on ) select a,b, c from viewname --do something select d,e,f from viewname ---do somethign --and so on --around 6-7 queries in a row in a stored procedure. This View can be used in other places as well. So I will be creating at database rather than at sp By Using Direct Query select a,b, c from select ... into #tx from triggertable join t2 join t3 join ... --do something select a,b, c from select ... into #tx from triggertable join t2 join t3 join ... --do something . . --and so on --around 6-7 queries in a row in a stored procedure. Now I can create a view/temporary table/ directly query usage in all upcoming queries. What would be the best to use in this case.

  I have a "BSjax" class that I wrote that lets me make async calls to our server to get json result sets, etc using the ASIHTTPRequest class. I set it up so that the BSjax class parses my server's json response, then passes control back to the calling view controller via this call: [[self delegate] performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(bsRequestFinished:) withObject:self waitUntilDone:YES]; ... where "bsRequestFinished" is the callback method in the calling view controller. This all worked fine and well until I realized that some pages are going to need to make different types of requests... i.e. I'll want to do different types of things in that callback function depending on which type of request was made. To me it seems like being able to pass different callback function names to my BSjax class would be the cleanest fix... but I'm having trouble (and am not even sure if it's possible) to pass in a variable that holds the callback function name and then replace the call above with something like this: [[self delegate] performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(self.variableCallbackFunctionName) withObject:self waitUntilDone:YES]; ... where "self.variableCallbackFunctionName" is set by the calling view controller when it calls BSjax to make a new request. Is this even possible? If so, advisable? If not, alternatives? EDIT: Note that whatever fix I arrive at will need to take into account the reality that this class is making async requests... so I need to make sure that the callback function processing is correctly tied to the specific requests... as I can't rely on FIFO processing sequence.

• Managing Large Database Entity Models

  I would like hear how other's are effectively (or not) working with the Visual Studio Entity Designer when many database tables exists. It seems to me that navigating the Designer is tough enough to find what you are looking for with just a few tables but how about a database with say 100 to 200 tables? When a table change is made at the database level how is the model updated? Does it overwrite any manual changes you have made to the model? How would you quickly find an entity in the designer to make a change or inspect a change? Seems unrealistic to be scrolling around looking for specific entity. Thanks for your feedback!

  I have a page that contains several forms, by submitting each one of them, next form becomes visible. the last form contains a recaptcha validator, my problem starts here, if i declare an action result for that page like this [CaptchaValidator] public ActionResult myAction(SomeModel model, string lang) { return View("towing", model); } I'm getting an argument null exeption parameter "Challenge", which in fact means that you have to POST those fields from recaptcha for the validation to appear and I cannot post anyting untill the last for is visible and posted. then I've added a news ActionResult like myActionValidated, defined a route for it like: mypage/validate pointing to that actionresult and then i don't know where to go from here, i want simply do display a message if the reCaptcha did not validate and redirect to a URL if it succeeded. I hope I made myself clear. Thank you in advance

• How to exclude results with get_object_or_404?

  In Django you can use the exclude to create SQL similar to not equal. An example could be. Model.objects.exclude(status='deleted') Now this works great and exclude is very flexible. Since I'm a bit lazy, I would like to get that functionality when using get_object_or_404, but I haven't found a way to do this, since you cannot use exclude on get_object_or_404. What I want is to do something like this: model = get_object_or_404(pk=id, status__exclude='deleted') But unfortunately this doesn't work as there isn't an exclude query filter or similar. The best I've come up with so far is doing something like this: object = get_object_or_404(pk=id) if object.status == 'deleted': return HttpResponseNotfound('text') Doing something like that, really defeats the point of using get_object_or_404, since it no longer is a handy one-liner. Alternatively I could do: object = get_object_or_404(pk=id, status__in=['list', 'of', 'items']) But that wouldn't be very maintainable, as I would need to keep the list up to date. I'm wondering if I'm missing some trick or feature in django to use get_object_or_404 to get the desired result?

If I open the console I see the last things in the logs and there I see the confirmation-mail and the text and all stuff, but I am already logged in... I can´t explain why, ... does somebody of you have an idea? If I copy out the confirmation-token from the logs and confirm my account, I can log in, but if I don´t confirm, I also can log in..

I'm trying to compare them in a way that validates that every element of one list has the same value as every element of another list. • Database Design for One to One relationships

  I'm trying to finalize my design of the data model for my project, and am having difficulty figuring out which way to go with it. I have a table of users, and an undetermined number of attributes that apply to that user. The attributes are in almost every case optional, so null values are allowed. Each of these attributes are one to one for the user. Should I put them on the same table, and keep adding columns when attributes are added (making the user table quite wide), or should I put each attribute on a separate table with a foreign key to the user table. I have decided against using the EAV model. Thanks!

  Hi, i'm using the JQUERY multiselectable plugin. Because it's get one select box and transform it in two, where you can move one selected option to another select box. The problem is that i'm facing some problems with the edit action. When i load the form, the selected values (that are saved in my model) are not being populated in the "selected" select box. There is anybody with a good idea about how to "automatically" move the selected values in my database from the "available to be selected" to "selected" options? For now i'm doing something like <%= select "product", :option_ids, options_for_select(Option.all.map { |opt| [opt.description, opt.id]}), {},{:multiple=> true,:class=>'multiselect'} %> Here i can see already the problem. I could just use as options_for_select just all options - the options that are already choosed in my model. The problem is how to update the select box with this information?

  Hi I have an SecurityGroup entity witch has Memebers and Application properties. Application is a lookup. So securityGroups is in many-to-many relationship with User table and one-to-many with LookupApplciation (FK) Now I want to select all application linked to a specific user. I have follow criteria: public IList<LookupApplication> GetApplicationByUser(User user) { return this.Session.CreateCriteria(typeof(SecurityGroup), "sg") .CreateAlias("Members", "u") .CreateAlias("Application", "al") .Add(Restrictions.Eq("u.Id", user.Id)) .List<LookupApplication>(); } It trows an exception The value "Edi.Advance.Core.Model.Security.SecurityGroup" is not of type "Edi.Advance.Core.Model.Lookups.LookupApplication" and cannot be used in this generic collection. Parameter name: value and it is right. How can I transform the result to IList<LookupApplication>? Thanks

• Getting batch_action functionality in Symfony 1.0

  I'm currently working on a web app written in Symfony. I'm supposed to add an "export to CSV" feature in the backend/administration part of the app for some modules. In the list view, there should be an "Export" button which should provide the user with a csv file of the elements that are displayed (considering filtering criteria). I've created a method in the actions class of the module that takes a comma separated list of ids and generates the CSV, but I'm not really sure how to add the link to it in the view. The problem is that the view doesn't exist anywhere, it's generated on the fly from the data in the generator.yml configuration file. I've posted the relevant part of the file below. I'm new to Symfony, so any help would be appreciated :). Currently, I'm working around this with Javascript (I parse the DOM to get the numeric ids (from the display table) and then build the link for the button. I really think there could be a better way for this.
