• Removing non-alphanumeric characters in an Access Field.

  I need to remove hyphens from a string in a large number of access fields. What's the best way to go about doing this? Currently, the entries are follow this general format: 2010-54-1 2010-56-1 etc. I'm trying to run append queries off of this field, but I'm always getting validation errors causing the query to fail. I think the cause of this failure is the hypens in the entries, which is why I need to remove them. I've googled, and I see that there are a number of formatting guides using vbscript, but I'm not sure how I can integrate vb into Access. It's new to me :) Thanks in advance, Jacques

• ASP.NET HTTPHandler

  I have an HttpHandler class (implements IHttphandler) where the path defined for the handler in web.config is *.jpg. I am requesting a Jpg image in my page. Within the HTTP Handler I am writing to a file in the filesystem. By mistake I was trying to write to a non existant directory. This should have thrown an exception but the execution simply proceeds.Ofcourse no file is writte. But if I give a proper directory the file is written correctly.Is there anything special about HttpHandler Exceptions. • Spring MVC defaultValue for Double

  Hi All, I'm trying to build a controller like this: @RequestMapping(method = {RequestMethod.GET}, value = "/users/detail/activities.do") public View foo(@RequestParam(value = "userCash", defaultValue="0.0") Double userCash) { System.out.println("foo userCash=" + userCash); } This works fine: http://localhost/app/users/detail/activities.do?userCash=123& but in this one userCash==null despite the default value http://localhost/app/users/detail/activities.do?userCash=& From some digging it seems like the first one works b/c of a Editor binding like this: binder.registerCustomEditor(Double.class, new CustomNumberEditor(Double.class, false)); The trouble is that the second param (ie false) defines whether blank values are allowed. If i set that to true, than the system considers the blank input as valid so i get a null Double class. If i set it to false then the system chokes on the blank input string with: org.springframework.beans.TypeMismatchException: Failed to convert value of type 'java.lang.String' to required type 'double'; nested exception is java.lang.NumberFormatException: empty String Does anyone know how to get the defaultValue to work for Doubles? • Core Data iPhone how often should I call [managedObjectContext save:&error] when doing 50k record in

  I will be doing an occiasional import from XML into core data. I have around 50k entities that will be added. My question is how often should I call [managedObjectContext save:&error]. For every new entity added, or every x entities, or just at the end of the 50k import? I currently am calling it for each entity and tried only doing it for around every 10k and import speed went up drastically but after the first 30k it would crash with: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSGenericException', reason: '*** Collection <NSCFSet: 0x13e760> was mutated while being enumerated.' Before I spend too much time trying to diagnose what is going on there I figured I'd check if its ok to not call save on every entity? Is the # of entities before calling save limited by the amount of memory those entities are using?

  i am planning a simple, dual-language website and i'd like to use a .net based cms but i can't find anything suitable. i have experience with dotnetnuke and sharepoint but neither fit the bill - dotnetnuke does not do dynamic site elements multi-lingually & sharepoint is a monster PITA no matter what angle you look at it :). i am on the verge of choosing Joomla! & Joom!Fish. they fit the bill nicely, with one exception: i would like to create some cms plug-ins and i would much prefer to write them in .net. any suggestions?

• dojo/dijit and Printing

  I want to be able to provide a button to my users to just print a particular portion of my dojo/dijit application. There seems to be a general lack of documentation and examples when it comes to printing. For example, I have a specific dijit.layout.ContentPane that contains the content that I would like to print, but I wouldn't want to print the rest of the document. I have seen some pure JavaScript examples on the web where the node.innerHTML is read into a "hidden" iframe and then printed from there. I suspect that would work, but I was wondering if there was a more dojo centric approach to printing. Any thoughts?

  I'm creating proxies with javassist ProxyFactory. When creating a single proxy all works fine. However, when I pass a proxied class to the proxying mechanism, it fails with javassist.bytecode.DuplicateMemberException: duplicate method: setHandler in com.mypackage.Bean_$$_javassist_0_$$_javassist_1 I'm creating the proxies with this: public Object createProxiedInstance(Object originalInstance) throws Exception { Class<?> originalClass = instance.getClass(); ProxyFactory factory = new ProxyFactory(); factory.setSuperclass(originalClass); factory.setHandler(new MethodHandler() {..}); Class<T> proxyClass = factory.createClass(); return proxyClass.newInstance(); } So, how do I create proxies of proxies? Update: The actual problems is that each proxy implements the ProxyObject which defines setHandler(..) method. So the 2nd proxy is trying to redefine the method, instead of overriding it in the subclass.

  Hi, I am working on a webapplication and I do most of the XHTML stuff in an editor. Every once in a while I froget to close a tag or mess up the nesting (we all get distracted sometimes ;-)). So I commpile, package and run my webapp (using maven mvn clean package jetty:run-war only to notice that displaying the view (where I messed up the jsp) fails with an exception while trying to render. So I wondered: Is there some tool that I can include into my build-cycle that automatically catches and rectifies those careless mistakes?

• Silverlight TabItem template not working correctly

  Hello everybody! In a SL4 application i need to restyle my TabItems (actually add a button in the header). So i took the TabItem's control template from here and added the functionality i wanted. This seems to work fine, (i could dynamically add tabitems) with one exception: i think this posted control template is behaving somehow "arbitrary": every time the mouse hoovers over a non selected TabItem header, this gets selected WHITHOUT clicking!! (afaik this is not the default behavior: the user user has to click a header to make this tabitem the selected one). I tried to find why it is behaving like this, with no luck! Is there someone who can enlighten my darkness??? Thanks in advance!

• linear interpolation on 8bit microcontroller

  I need to do a linear interpolation over time between two values on an 8 bit PIC microcontroller (Specifically 16F627A but that shouldn't matter) using PIC assembly language. Although I'm looking for an algorithm here as much as actual code. I need to take an 8 bit starting value, an 8 bit ending value and a position between the two (Currently represented as an 8 bit number 0-255 where 0 means the output should be the starting value and 255 means it should be the final value but that can change if there is a better way to represent this) and calculate the interpolated value. Now PIC doesn't have a divide instruction so I could code up a general purpose divide routine and effectivly calculate (B-A)/(x/255)+A at each step but I feel there is probably a much better way to do this on a microcontroller than the way I'd do it on a PC in c++ Has anyone got any suggestions for implementing this efficiently on this hardware?

To be more specific, the XML file is the RSS source for the nuPack project. Any ideas would be very appreaciated on how to be able to read this document properly.

  I'm trying to figure out which property of BoxComponentEvent will tell me if the generated OnMouseWheel event was a scroll-up or scroll-down event. I have output the values of all the properties BoxComponentEvent exposes; and all of them (with the exception of the coordinates at which the event took place) stay the same regardless.   I am working on my first desktop app that queries LDAP. I'm working in C under unix and using opends, and I'm new to LDAP. After woking a while on that I noticed that the user could be able to alter the LDAP query by injecting malicious code. I'd like to know which sanitizing techniques are known, not only for C/unix development but in more general terms, i.e., web development etc. I thought that escaping equals and semicolons would be enough, but not sure. • Having Problems Getting FreeTTS and JSAPI Working

  I have a simple project idea based off of FreeTTS and the JSAPI (Java Speech API) I've downloaded and unpacked FreeTTS and run their build script. Then tried compiling my code linking in the lib directory into the class path like this: javac -cp /home/travis/Desktop/freetts-1.2/lib HelloUnleashedReader.java Which then compiles to java bytecode just fine. However when I run: java HelloUnleashedReader I get the following error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/speech/EngineModeDesc Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated as there are many sites around the net discussing problems with getting it to work but not many that discuss their solution.

• ASP.NET MVC Response Filter + OutputCache Attribute

  I'm not sure if this is an ASP.NET MVC specific thing or ASP.NET in general but here's what's happening. I have an action filter that removes whitespace by the use of a response filter: public class StripWhitespaceAttribute : ActionFilterAttribute { public StripWhitespaceAttribute () { } public override void OnResultExecuted(ResultExecutedContext filterContext) { base.OnResultExecuted(filterContext); filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Filter = new WhitespaceFilter(filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Filter); } } When used in conjunction with the OutputCache attribute, my calls to Response.WriteSubstitution for "donut hole caching" do not work. The first and second time the page loads the callback passed to WriteSubstitution get called, after that they are not called anymore until the output cache expires. I've noticed this with not just this particular filter but any filter used on Response.Filter... am I missing something? I also forgot to mention I've tried this without the use of an MVC action filter attribute by attaching to the PostReleaseRequestState event in the global.asax and setting the Response.Filter value there... but still no luck.

  There is a lot of information about new features and classes in new 4.0 however there are also changes that may affect esixting applications, for example Timespan now implements IFormattable and old string.Format() with invalid options will throw exception instead of calling simple ToString(). However, CLR team provides a nice feature to enable behaviour from previous version with configuration setting - TimeSpan_LegacyFormatMode . CLR Inside Out Access to events inside the class where they are declared using += or -= will lead to call add/remove generated accessors that return void. Some code wan't even compile in 4.0. Chris Burrows Blog CAS is deprecated and to enable it one still need to use special setting in configuration - NetFx40_LegacySecurityPolicy So I wonder what are other changes and is it possible to find at least preliminary list of changes that will or may break existing functionality with release of .NET 4.0 ?

• "Collection was modified..." Issue

  Hey guys, I've got a function that checks a list of objects to see if they've been clicked and fires the OnClick events accordingly. I believe the function is working correctly, however I'm having an issue: When I hook onto one of the OnClick events and remove and insert the element into a different position in the list (typical functionality for this program), I get the "Collection was modified..." error. I believe I understand what is going on: The function cycles through each object firing OnClick events where necessary An event is fired and the object changes places in the list per the hooked function An exception is thrown for modifying the collection while iterating through it My question is, how to do I allow the function to iterate through all the objects, fire the necessary events at the proper time and still give the user the option of manipulating the object's position in the list? • Why can't I download a whole image file with urllib2.urlopen()

  When I run the following code, it only seems to be downloading the first little bit of the file and then exiting. Occassionally, I will get a 10054 error, but usually it just exits without getting the whole file. My internet connection is crappy wireless, and I often get broken downloads on larger files in firefox, but my browser has no problem getting a 200k image file.
