• Single line command/script to archive a certain amount of folders

  I'm looking for a single line command or a script that archives 5 folders into .tar files (no gzip/bzip needed) in a certain directory and deletes the folders after a successful compression. It has to use the original folder name as file name for the archive too. • Convert long number as string in the serialization

  I have a custom made class that use a long as ID. However, when I call my action using ajax, my ID is truncated and it loses the last 2 numbers because javascript loses precision when dealing with large numbers. My solution would be to give a string to my javascript, but the ID have to stay as a long on the server side. Is there a way to serialize the property as a string? I'm looking for some kind of attribute. I can use regex to extract the info with preg_match_all but I feel this is not the right way as the data is already well structured. Any other method ?

• Linq to SQL inheritance and Table per Class - approach needed for multiple roles

  I am using L2S and an inheritance model for mapping Persons against certain roles. Guy Burstein's excellent blog post explains how to accomplish this: http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/bursteg/archive/2007/10/01/linq-to-sql-inheritance.aspx However, I have a specific case where a Person has multiple roles. For example 'Jane Doe' is a Contact and a Programmer. In this model, she would need two rows in the People table, one as Contact (PersonType = 1) and one as Programmer (PersonType = 3). If she changes her last name, and that update happens in her role as Contact, I would need to change all instances of 'Jane Doe' to reflect the name change everywhere. What sort of best approach (improved data structure) could be used to change last name within all roles? Finally, I am hoping to avoid overriding each general form update events to include all instances, but that may be the only way. Any suggestions or approaches appreciated.

• Grails - Need to restrict fetched rows based on condition on join table

  Hi guys, I have these two domains Car and Driver which have many-to-many relationship. This association is defined in table tblCarsDrivers which has, not surprisingly, primary keys of both the tables BUT additionally also has a new boolean field deleted. Herein lies the problem. When I find/get query on domain Car, I am fetched all related drivers irrespective of their deleted status in tblCarsDrivers, which is expected. I need to put a clause/constraint to exclude the deleted drivers from the list of fetched records. PS: I tried using an association domain CarDriver in joinTable name but that seems not to work. Apparently it expects only table names, not maps. PPS: I know its unnatural to have any other fields besides the mapping keys in mapping table but this is how I got it and it cant be changed. • Codeigniter - Is it ok to add functionality to the constructor in controllers?

  I'm making a project where I want the user to search for shops in different cities and would like the url to be like this: domain/shop/city/name. So I created a controller in codeigniter called Shop. But I cant create a city function since the city part of the url changes dependent on city name. One easy way to do it would be to add a function called "search" and add the functionality there but then I get url's like: domain/shop/search/city/name which I really would like to avoid. So my question is if it's ok to add my functionality directly into the constructor to avoid that extra "search" part in the url? I'm afraid that there might be some performance tricks involved that potentially keeps the class in memory so the constructor will not be called every time.

  Hi Please advise on how to merge two results in to one using SQL Server 2005. I have the situation where an Account can have up to two Settlement Instructions and this have been modeled like so: The slim-ed down schema: Account --------------------- Id AccountName PrimarySettlementId (nullable) AlternateSettlementId (nullable) SettlementInstruction ---------------------- Id Name The output I want is a single result set with a select statement something along the lines of this which will allow me to construct some java objects in my Spring row mapper: select Account.Id as accountId, Account.AccountName as accountName, s1.Id as primarySettlementId, s1.Name as primarySettlementName, s2.Id as alternateSettlementId, s2.Name as alternateSettlementName I've tried various things but cannot find a way to get the result set merged in to one where the primary and alternate FK's are not null. Finally I have searched the forum, but nothing quite seems to fit with what I need.

You can do this using the svcutil.exe tool from the command line with the following syntax: svcutil.exe http://internalservername.domain/clientname/happy.svc?wsdl I tried to add the host/baseaddress tag, but make no difference, what I missed? thanks for help.

• Why input elements don't render the value passed in ASP.Net MVC?

  This post asks this question but doesn't really give an answer, so I thought I would ask the question differently. I have a page that renders a hidden value from the model: <%=Html.Hidden("myName", model.myValue) %> Since I am passing a value in the value parameter, you would think it would output that value, but it doesn't. The code for rendering input fields has the following: string attemptedValue = (string)htmlHelper.GetModelStateValue(name, typeof(string)); tagBuilder.MergeAttribute("value", attemptedValue ?? ((useViewData) ? htmlHelper.EvalString(name) : valueParameter), isExplicitValue); Basically, if the ModelState (which contains posted values) contains a value for the "name" passed, it will use that value instead of your passed value to the helper method. In my case, I updated the model and my updated value wasn't outputted. If I pass a value to a method, I expect that value to be rendered. Am I missing something in this design or is it just wrong?

• Install Python 2.6 without using installer on Win32

  I need to run a python script on a machine that doesn't have python installed. What I did was as follows. Copy python.exe, python26.dll, msvcr90.dll and Microsoft.VC90.CRT.manifest zip all the directory in LIBs directory as the python26.zip copy all the necessary dll/pyd file inside the DLL directory. It seems to work, but when I change the python26.zip to the other name such as pythonlib.zip. It cannot find the python library anymore. Q1 : What's the magic behind the python26.zip name? The python automatically finds a library inside a python26.zip but not with different name? Q2 : If I have python26.zip at the same directory where python.exe/python26.dll is, I don't need to add path sys.path.append(THE PATH TO python26.zip). Is it correct?

  A new module 'foo' implements foo_node_info() where one or more new content types can be defined. If foo_node_info() defines two content types, namely a content type 'footypea' and a content type 'footypeb', how does one go about implementing hook_form() (what should the name of the "hook" be?) to configure each node's editing form? In the drupal example, the name of the new content type is the same as the module name. What happens in the above described example where two new content types are defined by the module? Should the implemented hook_form() function be of the form: footypea_form() and footypeb_form() ? (this doesn't seem to work) Or should you implement a single foo_form() function and within this create and return an array $form with elements $form['footypea'] and $form['footypeb'] that are in turn arrays of the individual form field definitions?

So first I am wondering can I merge those into one SP? I am not sure how it works with this OPENXML but I would think it would just be making sure that the XPath is right. Next what happens while it would be running this combined SP and something goes wrong. Would it roll back all the records or just stop and the records that happened before this event that crashed it would be inserted?

  So I'm familiar with the use fields pragma in Perl that can be used to restrict the fields that are stored in a class: package Fruit; use fields qw( color shape taste ); sub new { my ( $class, $params ) = @_; my $self = fields::new( $class ) unless ref $class; foreach my $name ( keys %$params ) { $self->{ $name } = $params->{ $name }; } return $self; } My question is.. once I've declared the fields at the top, how I can get the list back.. say because I want to generate accessors dynamically? Is keys %FIELDS the only way? Secondarily, is there a more efficient way to pre-populate the fields in the constructor than looping through and assigning each parameter as I am above? Thanks!
