• Why this code is not working on linux server ?

• setting up linked list Java

  I'm working on some basic linked list stuff, like insert, delete, go to the front or end of the list, and basically i understand the concept of all of that stuff once i have the list i guess but im having trouble setting up the list. I was wondering of you guys could tell me if im going in the right direction. And for example on the method get() in the list class can i not call that getItem() method from the node class because it's getting an error even though i thought that was the whole point for the node class. bottom line i just wanna make sure im setting up the list right. • HTMLUNIT Facebook javascript warning

  Hi I am trying to create simple application that would be able to search people on facebook using given e-mail. I am already able to log into an account using the HTMLunit tool and even create a page, which should throw result of my search. But when I try to print the result as XML the file is missing some blocks of javascript results (I can tell that they are missing by comparing file created by my application and source code, that can be viewed by using IE) Is there any way around this? I just need to get the same result IE's showsource function does. Thanks a lot. • Beware when using .NET's named pipes in a windows forms application

  Yesterday a user of our .net ORM Profiler tool reported that he couldn't get the snapshot recording from code feature working in a windows forms application. Snapshot recording in code means you start recording profile data from within the profiled application, and after you're done you save the snapshot as a file which you can open in the profiler UI. When using a console application it worked, but when a windows forms application was used, the snapshot was always empty: nothing was recorded. Obviously, I wondered why that was, and debugged a little. Here's an example piece of code to record the snapshot. This piece of code works OK in a console application, but results in an empty snapshot in a windows forms application: var snapshot = new Snapshot(); snapshot.Record(); using(var ctx = new ORMProfilerTestDataContext()) { var customers = ctx.Customers.Where(c => c.Country == "USA").ToList(); } InterceptorCore.Flush(); snapshot.Stop(); string error=string.Empty; if(!snapshot.IsEmpty) { snapshot.SaveToFile(@"c:\temp\generatortest\test2\blaat.opsnapshot", out error); } if(!string.IsNullOrEmpty(error)) { Console.WriteLine("Save error: {0}", error); } (the Console.WriteLine doesn't do anything in a windows forms application, but you get the idea). ORM Profiler uses named pipes: the interceptor (referenced and initialized in your application, the application to profile) sends data over the named pipe to a listener, which when receiving a piece of data begins reading it, asynchronically, and when properly read, it will signal observers that new data has arrived so they can store it in a repository. In this case, the snapshot will be the observer and will store the data in its own repository. The reason the above code doesn't work in windows forms is because windows forms is a wrapper around Win32 and its WM_* message based system. Named pipes in .NET are wrappers around Windows named pipes which also work with WM_* messages. Even though we use BeginRead() on the named pipe (which spawns a thread to read the data from the named pipe), nothing is received by the named pipe in the windows forms application, because it doesn't handle the WM_* messages in its message queue till after the method is over, as the message pump of a windows forms application is handled by the only thread of the windows forms application, so it will handle WM_* messages when the application idles. The fix is easy though: add Application.DoEvents(); right before snapshot.Stop(). Application.DoEvents() forces the windows forms application to process all WM_* messages in its message queue at that moment: all messages for the named pipe are then handled, the .NET code of the named pipe wrapper will react on that and the whole process will complete as if nothing happened. It's not that simple to just say 'why didn't you use a worker thread to create the snapshot here?', because a thread doesn't get its own message pump: the messages would still be posted to the window's message pump. A hidden form would create its own message pump, so the additional thread should also create a window to get the WM_* messages of the named pipe posted to a different message pump than the one of the main window. This WM_* messages pain is not something you want to be confronted with when using .NET and its libraries. Unfortunately, the way they're implemented, a lot of APIs are leaky abstractions, they bleed the characteristics of the OS objects they hide away through to the .NET code.   SharePoint 2010 offers some changes and additions to the SharePoint 2007 approach. Site definitions and publishing providers remain largely the same, but site templates created from the SharePoint UI or SharePoint Designer are now saved to a .WSP file, the same solution deployment packaging file format used for deploying custom SharePoint solutions. Site Templates saved to a .WSP solution file can be imported into Visual Studio for additional customization. Introducing the WebTemplate Feature Element The WebTemplate element, introduced in SharePoint 2010, allows site templates to be defined and deployed as a Feature as part of a solution package. A WebTemplate element feature can be used to deploy site templates in either a Farm or Sandbox solution - without modification. If deployed as a Farm feature and solution, site templates will appear in the site collection provisioning page in Central Administration and can be used to provision new site collections, or within a Site Collection to create sub-sites. If deployed as a Site feature and Sandbox solution, site templates will appear within the site collection to support creating a root site or sub-sites. Creating a new WebTemplate Feature in Visual Studio 2010 In addition to supporting the ability to save and import Site Templates created from the SharePoint UI into Visual Studio for customization, it can also be used to create new site templates from scratch. In the following sample we will walk through how to create a new WebTemplate solution based on  a customized version of the out-of-box Blank Site. 1. Create a new Empty SharePoint Project in Visual Studio 2010. 2. Add a new Empty Element to the project. we like to create folders for each type of element in our solution, so in our sample, we have created a Web Templates folder, and then added the BLANKENT element. NOTE: The Elements folder MUST share the same name as the WebTemplate name property. 3. Open the empty Elements.xml and add the <WebTemplate /> element block. 4. Copy the default.aspx and ONET.XML files from the STS site definition location at 14\TEMPLATES\Site Templates\STS. We will customize the ONET.XML in the next section. Open the properties for each file and set the Deployment Type to ElementFile. This ensures the files are deployed with the Element when included in a Feature. 5. By default a new feature is added to the solution for you automatically when a new element is added to the solution. Rename and edit the feature as appropriate. Select Farm for the scope to deploy the WebTemplate to the entire farm, or Site for a sandboxed solution. Customize the ONET.XML At this point, you have a working WebTemplate solution that will deploy the identical site to the out-of-box Blank Site, however the ONET.XML supporting the STS site definition contains 3 configurations – essentially 3 separate site templates and can be simplified before customizing. In the following sample, we have trimmed the ONET.XML to the essentials for a single Site Template, and added references to the <SiteFeatures /> and <WebFeatures /> elements to include the SharePoint Standard and Enterprise features. We have left the top-level navigation bar, and the default page module intact, but removed all other extraneous markup.

I was live tweeting the event from @OracleProfit which was great for those who wanted to follow along with the proceedings from the comfort of their office or blackjack table. But I've also found over the years that live tweeting an event is a handy way to take notes: I can sift back through my record of what people said or thoughts I had at the time and organize the Twitter messages into some kind of summary account of the proceedings. I've had nearly a month to reflect on the presentations and conversations at the event and a few key topics have emerged: David Kirkpatrick's comment during the opening presentation really set the stage for the conversations that followed. Especially if you are a marketer or publisher, the idea that you are in a one-way broadcast relationship with your audience is a thing of the past. "Rising above the noise" does not mean reaching for a megaphone, ALL CAPS, or exclamation marks. Hype will not motivate social media denizens to do anything but unfollow and tune you out. But knowing your audience, creating quality content and/or offers for them, treating them with respect, and making an authentic effort to please them: that's what I believe is now necessary. And Kirkpatrick's comment early in the day really made the point. Later in the day, our friends @Vitrue demonstrated this point by elaborating on a comment by Facebook's John Yi. If a social strategy is comprised of nothing more than cutting/pasting the same message into different social media properties, you're missing the opportunity to have an actual conversation. That's not shouting at your audience, but it does feel like an empty gesture. Walter Benjamin, perplexed by auraless Twitter messages Not to get too far afield, but 20th century cultural critic Walter Benjamin has a concept that is useful for understanding the dynamics of the empty social media gesture: Aura. In his work The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, Benjamin struggled to understand the difference he percieved between the value of a hand-made art object (a painting, wood cutting, sculpture, etc.) and a photograph. For Benjamin, aura is similar to the "soul" of an artwork--the intangible essence that is created when an artist picks up a tool and puts creative energy and effort into a work. I'll defer to Wikipedia: "He argues that the "sphere of authenticity is outside the technical" so that the original artwork is independent of the copy, yet through the act of reproduction something is taken from the original by changing its context. He also introduces the idea of the "aura" of a work and its absence in a reproduction." So make sure you put aura into your social interactions. Don't just mechanically reproduce them. Keeping aura in your interactions requires the intervention of an actual human being. That's why @NoahHorton's comment about content curation struck me as incredibly important. Maybe it's just my own prejudice, being in the content curation business myself. And it's not to totally discount machine-aided content management systems, content recommendation engines, and other tech-driven tools for building an exceptional content experience. It's just that without that human interaction--that editor who reviews the analytics and responds to user feedback--interactions over social media feel a bit empty. It is SOCIAL media, right? (We'll leave the conversation about social machines for another day). At the end of the day, experimentation is key. Just like trying to find that right joke to tell at the beginning of your presentation or that good opening like at a cocktail party, social media messages and interactions can take some trial and error. Don't be afraid to try things, tinker with incomplete ideas, abandon things that don't work, and engage in the conversation. And make sure your heart is in it, otherwise your audience can tell. • SSIS Technique to Remove/Skip Trailer and/or Bad Data Row in a Flat File

  I noticed that the question on how to skip or bypass a trailer record or a badly formatted/empty row in a SSIS package keeps coming back on the MSDN SSIS Forum. I tried to figure out the reason why and after an extensive search inside the forum and outside it on the entire Web (using several search engines) I indeed found that it seems even thought there is a number of posts and articles on the topic none of them are employing the simplest and the most efficient technique. When I say efficient I mean the shortest time to solution for the fellow developers. OK, enough talk. Let’s face the problem: Typically a flat file (e.g. a comma delimited/CSV) needs to be processed (loaded into a database in most cases really). Oftentimes, such an input file is produced by some sort of an out of control, 3-rd party solution and would come in with some garbage characters and/or even malformed/miss-formatted rows. One such example could be this imaginary file: As you can see several rows have no data and there is an occasional garbage character (1, in this example on row #7). Our task is to produce a clean file that will only capture the meaningful data rows. As an aside, our output/target may be a database table, but for the purpose of this exercise we will simply re-format the source. Let’s outline our course of action to start off: Will use SSIS 2005 to create a DFT; The DFT will use a Flat File Source to our input [bad] flat file; We will use a Conditional Split to process the bad input file; and finally Dump the resulting data to a new [clean] file. Well, only four steps, let’s see if it is too much of work. 1: Start the BIDS and add a DFT to the Control Flow designer (I named it Process Dirty File DFT): 2, and 3: I had added the data viewer to just see what I am getting, alas, surprisingly the data issues were not seen it:   What really is the key in the approach it is to properly set the Conditional Split Transformation. Visually it is: and specifically its SSIS Expression LEN([After CS Column 0]) > 1 The point is to employ the right Boolean expression (yes, the Conditional Split accepts only Boolean conditions). For the sake of this post I re-named the Output Name “No Empty Rows”, but by default it will be named Case 1 (remember to drag your first column into the expression area)! You can close your Conditional Split now. The next part will be crucial – consuming the output of our Conditional Split. Last step - #4: Add a Flat File Destination or any other one you need. Click on the Conditional Split and choose the green arrow to drop onto the target. When you do so make sure you choose the No Empty Rows output and NOT the Conditional Split Default Output. Make the necessary mappings. At this point your package must look like: As the last step will run our package to examine the produced output file. F5: and… it looks great!

• can not connect to SQL running on amazon ec2 machine

  I am using SQL managment studio 2008 running on an Amazon EC2 machine. I am unable to connect to the database in my asp.net application. The EC2 instance has been set to accept connections over the SQL port. I am also able to remote the machine as well as view websites hosted on the server. Listed below is part of the connection string relating to this instance. When the program is ran and this connection string is called, it returns tcp error 0 - no return response. it just times out. <add name="ProjectServer" connectionString="Data Source=*IP ADDRESS HERE*,1433;Initial Catalog=*Catalog Name*;User ID=IP-0A6ED514\Administrator;"/> I removed the ip and the catalog name for the example, but I am sure they are correct. The only thing that I could think may cause an error, is the differences in names between the user id and the server name - the server name is ip-0A6ED514\sharepoint but the user name is ip-0A6ED514\administrator when I log into the sql server manager on the EC2 instance. A password is not used. Not sure if I would need to leave in a blank string for password - also not sure if the difference between server name and user id to log in makes a difference. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. update - when this connection string is used with out the port, i get tcp provider error 40 - when the port is in there, i get error 0 edit- the sql server is using windows authentication - does this make a difference? • How do you setup FTP with IIS Manager Users in an NLB environment with shared IIS configs?

  I've setup a 2 node NLB cluster and used the following to share IIS configs between them. http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2012/05/30/configuring-iis-7-5-shared-configuration.aspx The IIS configs and content is located on a network share via a UNC path. This works - updating IIS settings on one node, is visible in another node and my website works on the individual nodes and the cluster as whole. I'm able to setup an FTP site and successfully connect with my Windows login. However, I want to use IIS Manager Authentication as defined in: http://www.iis.net/learn/publish/using-the-ftp-service/configure-ftp-with-iis-manager-authentication-in-iis-7 I've tried using "Network Service" with the FTP COM object as well as a dedicated user account that exists on all three hosts, but every time I try to login with an IIS user I get something like the following: IISWMSVC_AUTHENTICATION_UNABLE_TO_READ_CONFIG An unexpected error occurred while retrieving the authentication information. • What permission(s) does an application pool identity required to manage other application pools?

  I have a web site (used to manage various parts of our software) that needs the permissions required to start/stop other application pools. I've created a user and set the app pool identity to custom, however the web app still can't start/stop the app pools. I get the following Error: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Filename: redirection.config Error: Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions at Microsoft.Web.Administration.Interop.AppHostWritableAdminManager.GetAdminSection(String bstrSectionName, String bstrSectionPath) at Microsoft.Web.Administration.Configuration.GetSectionInternal(ConfigurationSection section, String sectionPath, String locationPath) at Microsoft.Web.Administration.ServerManager.get_ApplicationPoolsSection() at Microsoft.Web.Administration.ServerManager.get_ApplicationPools() Discussion here suggests setting the application pool to local system or administrator, this does work, but I don't want to do this for security reasons (external support will need access this site). I did give the user higher permissions (as suggested here), starting by making it part of the local administrators group, but initially this didn't work, and giving the user read/write/mod permission on C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config also didn't work. I must have done something wrong as local administrator now works, however this still isn't what I want. So can anyone suggest the permissions I need to add to this user, and how can I apply them? An answer my problem (but different question) is here, but to clarify, I think I need to give an individual user "IIS Runtime Operation Permissions", does anyone know how to do this, if indeed this is the permissions I require?

  I've been reading a lot online about custom URL handlers / custom protocol handlers such as: Launching External Applications using Custom Protocols under OSX OS X URL handler to open links to local files I get that you can tell the system that a particular program is able to handle a certain scheme / protocol with the Info.plist file: <key>CFBundleURLTypes</key> <array> <dict> <key>CFBundleURLName</key> <string>Local File</string> <key>CFBundleURLSchemes</key> <array> <string>local</string> </array> </dict> </array> <key>NSUIElement</key> <true/> But if there are multiple applications that are capable of opening the same URL handler, such as mailto: how do you specify which one you want the system to use? There were some references to utilities like the More Internet preference pane which no longer seems to be available from the author's site. I did find it online by Googling but it seems a bit shaky - like it was written for an older OSX - perhaps Tiger. I haven't been able to find information on how to set the URL handler for protocols and custom protocols. I'm assuming there is a plist file somewhere that I can edit - or maybe there is a newer, better utility that works well with Mountain Lion?

• Prevent outgoing traffic unless OpenVPN connection is active using pf.conf on Mac OS X

  I've been able to deny all connections to external networks unless my OpenVPN connection is active using pf.conf. However, I lose Wi-Fi connectivity if the connection is broken by closing and opening the laptop lid or toggling Wi-Fi off and on again. I'm on Mac OS 10.8.1. I connect to the Web via Wi-Fi (from varying locations, including Internet cafés). The OpenVPN connection is set up with Viscosity. I have the following packet filter rules set up in /etc/pf.conf # Deny all packets unless they pass through the OpenVPN connection wifi=en1 vpn=tun0 block all set skip on lo pass on $wifi proto udp to [OpenVPN server IP address] port 443 pass on $vpn I start the packet filter service with sudo pfctl -e and load the new rules with sudo pfctl -f /etc/pf.conf. I have also edited /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.pfctl.plist and changed the line <string>-f</string> to read <string>-ef</string> so that the packet filter launches at system startup. This all seems to works great at first: applications can only connect to the web if the OpenVPN connection is active, so I'm never leaking data over an insecure connection. But, if I close and reopen my laptop lid or turn Wi-Fi off and on again, the Wi-Fi connection is lost, and I see an exclamation mark in the Wi-Fi icon in the status bar. Clicking the Wi-Fi icon shows an "Alert: No Internet connection" message: To regain the connection, I have to disconnect and reconnect Wi-Fi, sometimes five or six times, before the "Alert: No Internet connection" message disappears and I'm able to open the VPN connection again. Other times, the Wi-Fi alert disappears of its own accord, the exclamation mark clears, and I'm able to connect again. Either way, it can take five minutes or more to get a connection again, which can be frustrating. Why does Wi-Fi report "No internet connection" after losing connectivity, and how can I diagnose this issue and fix it?

• Problems with bash script, mysql inserts and launchd

  ========= I am developing a automated system, which consists of 3 parts: mysql, bash and launchd. Bash script takes folders of work related stuff, zips, archives and puts info about them into database that is located on a local MAMP server. Everything works as expected when I run the script from terminal. But when I use Launchd to automatically run this script, it functions without errors and it does not put the values into database. I've tried to make logs of returned messages, but the logs end up being empty as the command has run the way it was supposed to. • Upgrading MySQL Connector/Net

  I am trying to publish a website with our hosting provider. I am getting error due to the fact that they only allow a medium trust and the MySQL Connector/Net that I am using requires reflection to work. Unfortunately, reflection is not allowed in a medium trust. After some research I found out that the newest version of the MySQL Connector/Net may solve this problem. Connector/Net 6.6 includes enhancements to partial trust support to allow hosting services to deploy applications without installing the Connector/Net library in the GAC. I am thinking that will solve my problem. So, I unistalled MySQL Connector/Net 6.4.4 and I installed MySQL Connector/Net 6.6.4. When I run the application in Visual Studio 2010 I get the error: ProviderIncompatibleException was unhandled by user code The message is An error occurred while getting provider information from the database. This can be caused by Entity Framework using an incorrect connection string. Check the inner exceptions for details and ensure that the connection string is correct. InnerException is The provider did not return a ProviderManifestToken string. Everything works fine when I have Connector/Net 6.4.4 installed. I can access the database and perform Read/Write/Delete action against it. I have a reference to the following in the project: MySql.Data MySql.Data.Entity MySql.Web My connection string in Web.config <connectionStrings> <add name="AESSmartEntities" connectionString="server=ec2-xxx-xx-xxx-xx.compute-1.amazonaws.com; user=root; database=nunya; port=3306; password=xxxxxxx;" providerName="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> What might I be doing wrong? Do I need any additional setting(s) to work with version 6.6.4 that wasn't required in the older version 6.4.4?

• One-To-Many Powershell Scripts

  I'm trying to create a script to run as a scheduled task, which will run against multiple servers and retrieve some information. To start with, I populate the list of servers by querying AD for all servers that match a certain set of criteria, using Get-ADComputer. The problem is, the list is returned as an object, which I can't then pass to the New-PSSession list. I have tried converting it to a comma-seperated string by doing the following: foreach ($server in $serverlist) {$newlist += $server.Name + ","} but this still doesn't work. the alternative is to iterate through the list and run the various commands against each server one at a time, but my preference would be to avoid this and run them using one-to-many remoting. UPDATE: To clarify what I want to end up being able to do is using -ComputerName $serverlist, so I want $serverlist to be a string rather than an object. UPDATE 2: Thanks for all the suggestions. Between them and my original method I'm starting to wonder whether -ComputerName can accept a string variable? I've got varying degrees of success getting the list of computers converted to a comma separated string, but no matter how I do it I always get invalid network address.
