  • How to define a new type (class) in Python using C API?

    Hi, I am trying to use the Python C API to define a new class inside a module that would expose certain functionality written in C to Python code. I specifically want to have it in the form of a class and not a set of module functions. However, I can't find anything regarding this particular task in the official documentation. The closest I could find is PyClass_New function (in the Python.h header) but it is not mentioned anywhere in the official docs, so I assume it is not supposed to be used. So, what is the proper way to define a new Python class from C code? Thanks.

  • JustMock and Moles – A short overview for TDD alpha geeks

    People have been lurking near my house, asking me to write something about Moles and JustMock, so I’ll try to be as objective as possible, taking in the fact that I work at Typemock. If I were NOT working at Typemock I’d write: JustMock JustMock tries to be Typemock at so many levels it’s not even funny. Technically they work the same and the API almost looks like it’s a search and replace work based on the Isolator API (awesome compliment!), but JustMock still has too many growing pains and bugs to be usable. Also, JustMock is missing alot of the legacy abilities such as Non public faking, faking all types and various other things that are really needed in real legacy code. Biggest thing (in terms of isolation integration) is that it does not integrate with other profilers such as coverage, NCover etc.) When JustMock comes out of beta, I feel that it should cost about half as Isolator costs, as it currently provides about half the abilities. Moles Moles is an addon of Pex and was originally only intended to work within the Pex environment. It started as a research project and now it’s a power-tool for VS (so it’s a separate install) Now it’s it’s own little stubbing framework. It’s not really an Isolation framework in the classic sense, because it does not provide any kind of API built in to verify object interactions. You have to use manual flags all on your own to do that. It generates two types of classes per assembly: Manual Stubs(just like you’d hand code them) and Mole classes. Each Mole class is a special API to change and break the behavior that the corresponding type. so MDateTime is how you change behavior for DateTime. In that sense the API is al over the place, and it can become highly unreadable and unmentionable over time in your test. Also, the Moles API isn’t really designed to deal with real Legacy code. It only deals with public types and methods. anything internal or private is ignored and you can’t change its behavior. You also can’t control static constructors. That takes about 95% of legacy scenarios out of the picture if that’s what you’re trying to use it for. Personally, I found it hard to get used to the idea of two parallel APIs for different abilities, and when to choose which. and I know this stuff. I would expect more usability from the API to make it more widely used. I don’t think that Moles in planning to go that route. Publishing it as an Isolation framework is really an afterthought of a tool that was design with a specific task in mind, and generic Isolation isn’t it. it’s only hope is DEQ – a simple code example that shows a simple Isolation API built on the Moles generic engine. Moles can and should be used for very simple cases of detouring functionality such a simple static methods or interfaces and virtual functions (like rhinomock and MOQ do).   Oh, Wait. Ah, good thing I work at Typemock. I won’t write all that. I’ll just write: JustMock and Moles are great tools that enlarge the market space for isolation related technologies, and they prove that the idea of productivity and unit testing can go hand in hand and get people hooked. I look forward to compete with them at this growing market.

  • Howto use FB Graph to post a message on a feed (wall)

    I have created an app, and now i want to post a message on one of my friends wall with use of the new Graph API. Is this do-able? I am already using oAuth and the Graph-api to get a list of all my friends. The API at http://developers.facebook.com/docs/api tells me to cURL https://graph.facebook.com/[userid]/feed to read the feed, but it also tells me howto post a message: curl -F 'access_token=[...]' -F 'message=Hello, Arjun. I like this new API.' https://graph.facebook.com/arjun/feed Ofcourse this doesn't work! And I can't find out why.. Here are my PHP-code: require_once 'facebook.php'; // PHP-SDK downloaded from http://github.com/facebook/php-sdk $facebook = new Facebook(array(appId=>123, secret=>'secret')); $result = $facebook->api( '/me/feed/', array('access_token' => $this->access_token, 'message' => 'Playing around with FB Graph..') ); This code does not throws any error, and I know my access_token are correct (otherwise i could't run $facebook-api('/me?access_token='.$this-access_token); to get my userobject. Have anyone out there sucsessfully posted a message using Graph-api? Then i need your help! :-)

  • Using singleton instead of a global static instance

    I ran into a problem today and a friend recommended I use a global static instance or more elegantly a singleton pattern. I spent a few hours reading about singletons but a few things still escape me. Background: What Im trying to accomplish is creating an instance of an API and use this one instance in all my classes (as opposed to making a new connection, etc). There seems to be about 100 ways of creating a singleton but with some help from yoda I found some thread safe examples. ..so given the following code: public sealed class Singleton { public static Singleton Instance { get; private set; } private Singleton() { APIClass api = new APIClass(); //Can this be done? } static Singleton() { Instance = new Singleton(); } } How/Where would you instantiate the this new class and how should it be called from a separate class? EDIT: I realize the Singleton class can be called with something like Singleton obj1 = Singleton.Instance(); but would I be able to access the methods within the APIs Class (ie. obj1.Start)? (not that I need to, just asking) EDIT #2: I might have been a bit premature in checking the answer but I do have one small thing that is still causing me problems. The API is launching just fine, unfortunately Im able to launch two instances? New Code public sealed class SingletonAPI { public static SingletonAPI Instance { get; private set; } private SingletonAPI() {} static SingletonAPI() { Instance = new SingletonAPI(); } // API method: public void Start() { API myAPI = new API();} } but if I try to do something like this...   • Can I delay the keyup event for jquery?

    I'm using the rottentomatoes movie API in conjunction with twitter's typeahead plugin using bootstrap 2.0. I've been able to integerate the API but the issue I'm having is that after every keyup event the API gets called. This is all fine and dandy but I would rather make the call after a small pause allowing the user to type in several characters first. Here is my current code that calls the API after a keyup event: var autocomplete = $('#searchinput').typeahead() .on('keyup', function(ev){ ev.stopPropagation(); ev.preventDefault(); //filter out up/down, tab, enter, and escape keys if( $.inArray(ev.keyCode,[40,38,9,13,27]) === -1 ){ var self = $(this); //set typeahead source to empty self.data('typeahead').source = []; //active used so we aren't triggering duplicate keyup events if( !self.data('active') && self.val().length > 0){ self.data('active', true); //Do data request.     I am trying to cleanup my specs as they are becoming extremely repetitive. I have the following spec describe "Countries API" do it "should render a country list" do co1 = Factory(:country) co2 = Factory(:country) result = invoke :GetCountryList, "empty_auth" result.should be_an_instance_of(Api::GetCountryListReply) result.status.should be_an_instance_of(Api::SoapStatus) result.status.code.should eql 0 result.status.errors.should be_an_instance_of Array result.status.errors.length.should eql 0 result.country_list.should be_an_instance_of Array result.country_list.first.should be_an_instance_of(Api::Country) result.country_list.should have(2).items end it_should_behave_like "All Web Services" it "should render a non-zero status for an invalid request" end The block of code that checks the status will appear in all of my specs for 50-60 APIs. My first thought was to move that to a method and that refactoring certainly makes things much drier as follows :- def status_should_be_valid(status) status.should be_an_instance_of(Api::SoapStatus) status.code.should eql 0 status.errors.should be_an_instance_of Array status.errors.length.should eql 0 end describe "Countries API" do it "should render a country list" do co1 = Factory(:country) co2 = Factory(:country) result = invoke :GetCountryList, "empty_auth" result.should be_an_instance_of(Api::GetCountryListReply) status_should_be_valid(result.status) result.country_list.should be_an_instance_of Array result.country_list.first.should be_an_instance_of(Api::Country) result.country_list.should have(2).items end end This works however I can not help feeling that this is not the "right" way to do it and I should be using shared specs, however looking at the method for defining shared specs I can not easily see how I would refactor this example to use a shared spec. How would I do this with shared specs and without having to re-run the relatively costly block at the beginning namely co1 = Factory(:country) co2 = Factory(:country) result = invoke :GetCountryList, "empty_auth"

    We are implementing an application with a webservice as component and decided to use the Glassfish 3.0 embedded distri to provide the webservice. And it works. We need a SSL(HTTPS) connection to the webservice, but we didn't find any documentation or hint how to activate it programmatically via the embedded API. Thus we tried to configure the embedded Glassfish via domain.xml, what has a listener configured with SSL. And the port is reachable but only without SSL. The embedded Glassfish seem to ignore the configuration to activate SSL for the port. Has anyone experience in configuring embedded Glassfish with SSL?

    Hi, I have been working in Oracle iStore from past 4 months and i have been managing the application without any IDE (basically doing all the chores on notepad only because application has been designed poorly and no IDE can support it). Since the coding is done on simple notepad files it is very hard to find out the bugs in the application. I am facing a problem that i have not idea which jsp page redirect the control to which jsp page. For instance, there are two jsp pages A.jsp and other is B.jsp. Now the browser is currently displaying A.jsp. When the user click on submit button (available on A.jsp) the form submits and redirects the control to B.jsp. Now my problem is that i know i am coming on B.jsp but, i don't know that A.jsp is redirecting the control to B.jsp. Is there an method available in Servlet API which tells Which jsp is redirecting the control to B.jsp?
